My fella lives 1 block away so on a cold night when we didn't feel like cooking this was the PERFECT choice!! We shared a large house salad with blue cheese dressing. It's a basic house salad but wooo it was fresh and cold like a good house salad should be and the dressing was rich and chuck full of yummy blue cheese chunks!! I loved it!! The french onion soup was next. Yummers!! I recently went to a more upscale type place and the french onion soup was just OK. The French onion at Bogartz is perfection covered in hot gooey delicious cheese!! It was not salty and the broth was perfect, lots of onion and chunky hunks of bread. I loved it!!! I have been thinking about it ever since! We also got 10 wings and had 3 different dipping choices and these little bad boys were on point. Not greasy or mushy. They were crisp and meaty and super good!! Best wings I have had in a while. If you live in the area check it out. They make a good bloody mary and have a great beer selection. New menu...was excited to see Prime Rib special. They do beef well here so hoping for a tasty delight! Prime Rib was very good but I was not excited about the redskin mashed potatoes. They were gummy and didn't have much flavor. One of our guests said his burger was "maybe the best burger I've ever had." I would have to agree. Waitress wasn't great tonight. If I hadn't seen the specials on the way in I would not have known there were any. And you had to basically pry information out of her (what is the soup of the day? What does that come with? This has become our go-to neighborhood hangout. The food has really improved with the new menu, probably because it's a reasonable size as they aren't trying to be all things to all people. I am seriously addicted to the bread knots appetizer. There are options for vegetarians and lots of great seafood dishes (the crab cake sliders are the bomb!) This is my first review ever. This place is mediocre at best as well as the service. Bottom line is - on busy nights parking is difficult and if you have kids with you the servers will not take into account that they can't wait over an hour for their food. Thought we'd pass the long wait for food with their video games but half of them don't work. Wasted another couple bucks on those. Not cheap at all, one adult and two kids somehow cost me $70. I used to go to this "location" regularly with my grandmother beginning 25+ years ago when it was Captain's Too. I've seen it change hands three possibly four times, and let me tell you, it is THE BEST it's ever been. My wife and I went all out last night; started with the Soup of the Day, a stellar Tomato Bisque with chunks of ripe tomato. Next came our Crab Cake Sliders, honestly I don't know how they make money on these things, $6 for three monstrous DELICIOUS crab cakes on a fresh bun with lettuce and dijon. These are the steal of the menu, two of them actually went home with us, you'll see why... Next course, Spinach Salad, with bacon, red onion, bleu cheese, julienne granny smiths and apple vinaigrette. Also gigantic, but we put it away because unlike crab cakes, salads don't hold up too well. But to each his own, if you like left over salad God bless you... weirdo. Then came the trio of Bistro Steaks. It's one marinated 12oz. sirloin split in three, each atop a different bed of yum. One was a grilled Portobello, another mashed redskin potatoes, and my personal favorite, sautéed romaine, caramelized red onion and bleu cheese; all three were topped with a balsamic glaze. And finally, I took home a small Naked Pizza plus anchovies that I tossed right in the fridge. I am currently eating it cold... for breakfast... don't be jealous. Chris was our server, and when we return it will be on nights when he works. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, polite and easy to talk to. Was there whenever we needed him, wasn't when we didn't, and brought out courses! I HATE getting everything at once. He was a rockstar. Their tee shirts claim "Coldest Beer in Town," but alas I forgot my thermometer... and to test all the other beers in town. The presentation was phenomenal, especially the salad and steaks, hats off to the chef. I should also mention I ate there about a month ago and loved the French Onion Soup and Buffalo Burger. Overall bang for your buck, you cannot beat Bogartz. I'm super stingy with stars, and would probably give them a 9/10, but since we're limited to five, I'm rounding up and giving them all of them. read more

It was a friday night and hardly anybody was in here! we were like "uh oh, why is nobody in here..." So lets start with the menu. I feel like this establishment is having an identity crisis, doesnt know if it wants to be a classy restaurant or Green Dot STables...(no knock to green dot stables which i LOVE holla atcha boy)..it reminds me of my own identity crisis i had in college when i wasnt sure if i was like a bisexual slam poet or a dubstepping lacrosse jock..anyway my wife and i got a few tapas sliders..at $3 a piece we were like damn these better be worth it. and guess what? they kind of were. we were like "dude quit bogarting the slider" lmao. anyway they tasted pretty good. I remember i had trouble seeing the tigers game from our seats because the TVs were on the smaller side. If you're in the area don't pass up a chance to stop in here and eat. I couldn't decide between the buffalo burger (grilled onions,cheddar and "sweet heat" BBQ sauce) and the blackened salmon tacos with mango salsa, so I did what any foodie worth their weight in yelp reviews would do ... I ordered both. The buffalo burger and the bun it rode in on were sheer perfection. Rivaled only, in my experience, by the burger on J. Alexander's menu. The blackened salmon tacos were also phenomenal ... Plenty of salmon and the mango salsa added a little sweetness that made every bite exceptional. Outstanding. Deb ordered the burger of the day which was a Cajun version and she was not disappointed in the least. Great taste and just enough seasoning so as to not overtake the flavor of the beef. The service at Bogart'z is exceptional as well. Leslie, the owner, took our order, took a minute to chat, and took the time to make us want to be regulars at this place. Her son Jason is the one creating and cooking all of the great food and he even came out and said hello. All in all, an experience worth adding Bogart'z to our list of regular stops. We got a Groupon which seems like a great deal. Appetizer: Brussel Sprouts: came out cold, after our salads and had zero flavor Entree: I got the steak. Really greasy and lacking of flavor as well. Okay so I forgot to take pictures but this place is definitely vegan friendly! Their pizza dough is in the clear and you can just add whatever veggies you'd like and of course say no cheese. I did the margarita with no cheese and add pineapple and it was soo good that's typical what I make at home anyways. They have two burgers you can order they have the beyond burger off menu and just make sure no mayo or cheese and the other burger is on the menu I believe it's called the Jude but it does come with cheese. I don't know if this party is fully vegan so just double check and ask if there's eggs milk or cheese in the patty and if not you're in the clear! The people who work here are very sweet! Hard to judge since I didn't have the typical dining exoerience. I was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner. We had a buffet style thing with salad and pizza. The salad was mostly lackluster with oversized red onion pieces and not much going on. Only Italian dressing served with it... nothing to write home about. The saddest part was the low grade silverware and the cheapest possible disposable foam plates. The pizza was solid. Good homemade stuff, but short of outstanding. We went to the bar initially for a drink. Took a while to be acknowledged... And the bar was pretty empty. Good Draft selection of domestics and micros. Table service wasn't much other than an initial visit. I was out of water really quick. Saw the server once more to clear the table. I know it was a group buffet thing... But still, I expect a check in or two. The place is nice. Has a dive barish feel, but it's clean. I feel if I was here as a normal patron, my experience would have been better. read more

I came to this place by chance with a friend when another place we want to didn't have seating. I was a little surprised being right on the edge Detroit that this area by Grosse Pointe was actually really nice. I've never been this part of town because normally I'm downtown Detroit or I'm by Ferndale. But I was very impressed with the neighborhood and the atmosphere around and I like the building. I ordered an appetizer with my dinner and it was delicious to start off. My burger was one of the best burgers I've had in Detroit and it was a daily special. I always get my burger cooked well done because I'm not big on red meat but once in a while I do enjoy a good burger. The burger was called the Duke and I kind a wish they had it all year around in my opinion. They let me substitute the cheese with pepper jack which I was happy about. Our waitress was really kind to us and very helpful on the menu and what it had to offer and what she preferred or their customers preferred. The atmosphere inside was really cool and really down to earth and you can just enjoy yourself and even play a couple pinball machine games if you wanted to. The bathroom was a little interesting inside because you can tell is the original bathroom from when this building was built probably back in the early 30s. They did update a few things but the sink definitely was a little bit different when washing your hands. This would be a place I would actually recommend to a lot of my friends to try if they ever get a chance come out this way. I personally plan on coming back here again sometime within the next month or two to grab a bite to eat again and try maybe their lunch. read more

Excited I am the first to review Bogartz! Hubby and I started going here almost 3 years ago when we moved into the neighborhood. Were working on the house and needed fuel - so stopped in here, had the pizza and have been hooked ever since. We go here about 2 times a week + and have grown to personally know the owners and become friends with them. They are GREAT people! The pizza here is my FAV!! The flavored crust really just completes the pizza for me - I get Ranch flavor, and I could wolf down a medium all by myself- lol. Everything else on the menu we have tried we also enjoy. They have a fabulous Sea Cheese bake which is some concotion of crab meat and cheeses baked together and you eat it with yummy bread.mmmm. Their ribs are out of this world, they have your typical fish and chips and also pecan encrusted whitefish is delicious! The thing that keeps us coming back is that it is laid-back, but not a dive. It's not trying to be something its not.....I dont need to get dressed up to go here, but it is not dingy and gross inside. Bartender was very social, maybe a bit too much for me. Food was tasty but everything we had came out lukewarm. They weren't busy, and not many people were ordering food. It didn't seem like it would've sat in the window long enough to cool down but it was kind of disappointing because it could've been so much better. Drinks were a bit pricy but they do have $1 off happy hour which always helps. The fried pickles were okay, hand battered but clumped together when they came out. But their hand made chips were delicious though! Just needed some seasoning when they come out of the fryer, which I could've done if they came to us right out of the fryer but again, they were cold.
