My husband and I have two standards when we try a new diner. Biscuits and gravy and Western ommlettes. I ordered the Weitz special which is two biscuits topped with sausage gravy and two eggs. The biscuits were fluffy and the sausage gravy some of the best I've had. Topped with perfectly cooked over easy eggs, I was a happy girl. Schweety's western was a bit on the small side which he, as usual, put between the biscuit he ordered and at it as a sandwich! He ate it all then helped me finish my food. Such a considerate man! Service was friendly and the restaurnt tidy and inviting. Would eat here again if I was in the area.

Table is sticky, and whatever you do don't sit across from the window unit pumping out cold air for the whole place. My 2 others guests were frozen and I was too, but gave my only sweater to my sister. Food took at least 15 minutes when we were the only ones even being served. Praise music was up higher than the lights. Ladies room toilet rocks so hard I immediately assumed I was falling thru the floor when I sat. Thankfully we won't have to return.

This was the inside of what was supposed to be a salmon cake last night. (10/04/2016) I did not taste any salmon. My dogs got the meal.

The prices are extremely reasonable, and the service is on par with some of the best restaurants we have visited. Servers here were very attentive, with a very homely feel. Some things I would recommend the establishment do, is provide a thicker slab of beef with the burger and change some of the awkward lighting on the north end of the restaurant. We also got their Neissy sandwich which was absolutely delicious along with a side of Mac and cheese. I loved it and it was definitely filling. The habanero burger, other than the thin slap of beef, was impeccably presented and lived up to its description on the menu. We are always excited to find affordable places to eat out that tangibly take pride in their customer service and product. Without hesitation, I am happy to give this place a 5 star hands down even with the recommendations listed.

To get there I had to drive on the highway and with the change in time, when I arrived, night had already fallen, and it was dark. With no traffic lights to turn to the small parking lot of the restaurant, I had to wait until cars stopped coming from the other side to be able to turn towards the restaurant. You could say it was an adventure just getting there on a Sunday evening. Once inside, the place was clean, cozy and had a comfortable ambiance, with eclectic dining furniture and decor. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review for a better sense of the place and the quality of the food. A young lady who would be my server, greeted me and took me to my table, leaving a copy of the menu with me and taking my drink order. I had a fountain drink. When she came back with my drink I ordered a House Salad with the House dressing to start with, and a Klukin Pig Sandwich with Homemade Chips. The sandwich had ham, chicken, bacon, provolone and Chef dressing on a Ciabatta bread. The salad was a nice size salad, served in a plastic bowl. I enjoyed eating it with the House dressing very much. The sandwich was not too big but good tasting. And the chips were pre-cooked, so they were somewhat dry. I had expected they would be fried at the moment, like in other restaurants I'd had homemade chips before. For dessert I had a Funnel Cake Sundae. It was huge and delicious. The other desserts they had were mostly slices of cakes and pies packed in plastic containers. I could see the locals or tourists of this small town dining here, but I wouldn't make it a trip just to dine there.

Going back to this restaurant after the great honor that I had received from Yelp, made me recall the first time that I dined here. I invite you that after reading this review, you go back and read that one, and view my photographs accompanying it, because it's one of which I am most proud of, and an experience that I will never forget and forever cherish. I arrived at the restaurant on time at five o'clock sharp and as I waited for them to open I had an opportunity to meet and chat with a couple who had been loyal customers of this restaurant for years since it first opened. They, as well as I, were aware of the beautiful location of the restaurant on one of the most exclusive neighborhoods of Roanoke. As soon as the doors opened, I allowed them to enter first and then when the host came back she gave me a warm and friendly greeting, welcoming me back, and took me to an ideal table, where I had a perfect view of the entire restaurant, from their open kitchen, to their bar, to the entire dining room and entrance, allowing me to capture in photographs the real feel of the ambiance of this cozy, yet elegant, upscale Southern, New-American restaurant known for its scratch-made dishes using locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, including house-cured meats and pickled vegetables, as well as very creative cocktails. Shortly after I was seated, my delightful server Caroline arrived, and after a warm greeting took my order. To drink I order their Strawberry Fields Forever Mocktail. As appetizer I ordered a half dozen Oysters together with their famous Oyster Wraps. And as my main entrée, the Painted Hills Filet, cooked medium-rare. All the staff seemed so happy to see me and the manager came by to say hello and congratulate me for my outstanding Yelp accomplishment of 2025. My excellent server made sure that my order was well-paced, came by at the appropriate times to fill my glass with water and see if all was to my liking. Everything tasted amazingly delicious. Starting from the unique taste of my creative mocktail, to my flavorful appetizer, to my exquisite Filet main entrée that was so tender and cooked just right. The chefs in this fine dining restaurant are amazing and the quality of their meats is top notch. For dessert I had one of my favorite desserts, since I first had it there, their Dark Chocolate Panna Cotta. This dessert is absolutely mouthwatering. What an extraordinary dining experience I once again had there. Fine dining at its best. For those very special occasions, I highly recommend this restaurant. Or you can always make any day special, by dining there.

The Chicken Liver Mousse was absolutely amazing and I'd return again and again specifically for this dish (go ahead and order extra bread to come with it)!!

I was just hoping to be awed. I had the grilled salmon was looking, for medium but it was definitely well done. It was will seasoned and I was hungry, so none went to waste, lol. I was just hoping for something special. The veggie side was small and basic but well seasoned and the potatoes were also well seasoned but missing the Chicago butter sauce advertised. Instead it had a tiny smear of what I'm assuming was cocktail sauce. I tried the cheesecake bread pudding which was their bread pudding of the day. Overall it was good. I wouldn't have minded more cream cheese and was kind of disappointed the strawberries came out with the leaves still attached. At this price point, I don't want to have to remove things on my own. My server was great, she was training someone new but still managed to be perfectly attentive without being over bearing. If you are traveling anywhere nearby (or even if you…read morearen't but can reroute yourself without too much inconvenience) eat your breakfast on the road here. In fact, even if you're in, for example, Florida or California, and are tempted to enter a Waffle House, or an IHOP, Denny's, or, heaven forbid, a Cracker Barrel -- just drive toward the Blue Ridge Mountains and eat at Dudley's instead. The mountain areas of Virginia have restaurants, both large and small, of shockingly good quality (especially if you're way too used to North Carolina's generally dismal offerings). And the splendor of Virginia culinary expertise clearly applies to truck stops -- or at least it does here, in a little restaurant that doesn't seem to have changed much in the last 60 years. Here, all of your diner breakfast dreams will come true. For example, the omelets are perfect diner omelets. The home fries (usually something to be avoided at many diners) clearly come from real potatoes which have been perfectly chopped and even excellently seasoned. There are actual biscuits, seemingly made in-house (shockingly a rarity in other, less rarified, parts of the Southeast - trust me). And it all tastes good and is cooked impeccably. Best of all, is the extra special depth of flavor that can only come from a grill that has seen, and cooked, a lot of history, like a well-loved iron frying pan. You can try to fry bacon elsewhere, but it will never have the same indefinable magic that comes from a venerable diner kitchen. The atmosphere gives top quality diner scenery. The walls, the curtains, the friendly regulars, the pictures, the memorabilia, photos of Willie Nelson, a taxidermied bobcat (which, I should clarify, is a bobcat, I don't mean it's a photo of a bobcat named Willie Nelson, though that may well have been his name to his bobcat friends). it's all magnificent, charming, and will make you miss the sepia-toned vision of your childhood, which really was never like this at all, but it feels right. Chain restaurants can only wish they had a 1/100th of the pleasant authenticity of the decor here. The service is very efficient and, of course, super-friendly (as you would expect), but never annoying or overbearing. It's just as it should be. A lot of the quality comes from (as it does everywhere that is special) having an ever-present owner, who, from the long-ago beginning, has been at the restaurant every step of the way. Great establishments often owe their greatness to a wise owner who harnesses the threads of the business like the Fates at the loom. Thank you for maintaining such a nice place.
