Since I don't gate keep, I guess I'll share my experience lol. This place is so bomb. My son got the French toast breakfast. It looks basic but it was really good. He devoured it. I got the oxtails with mac n cheese and yams. It comes served over rice with gravy. I was told they greens were good but they didn't have any during my visit. Oxtails 10/10. And unlike other restaurants, they serve them everyday! There is seating inside. The restaurant is small so there is limited seating. Nothing fancy. If you eat there, you will be served with the takeout containers and cutlery.

This place really is a hidden gem. I order from here all the time and the food is always a hit. The portion sizes for the price is great and the food is flavorful. The oxtails are goood. I highly recommend trying.

Our first time visiting Bojax Kitchen!! One of the best soul food places!! Service was amazing! Food was amazing! We only waited 10 minutes for our order! The corn bread was soooo delicious!! Thank you for the wonderful meal and the excellent service!! We'll see you again soon.

They gave me so much food it was so delicious !! ever time I come it's delicious and the portions are great !!! Great service

    From the restaurant website

We ordered the smothered pork chops dinner. It was supposed to come with three pork chops but we only received two and they were tough and inedible. Order was supposed to include three sides and cornbread. We ordered red beans & rice, mac & cheese and candied yams. Received rice & gravy, mac and cheese and collard greens. There was also no cornbread. There was no gravy on the pork chops as it was all absorbed by the rice underneath. They were supposed to contact me for substitutions but failed to do so. This level of ineptness is unconscionable. The owner responded that the meal comes with two pork chops, rice and gravy and two sides but DoorDash and his website contradict his assertion. Fix your DoorDash information. The owner stated that DoorDash made a mistake setting up his account but his website clearly says three pork chops, three sides and cornbread. It appears that the owner doesn't know what he's doing or he's a dishonest bait and switch. Photo of the description from the restaurant website is posted below.

Went there for a family brunch and man-o-man we ordered almost every item on the menu. It was so good, we ate there and took meals home for later. The service was excellent, cheerful, and very friendly. The owner greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed, which really made us all feel very special!! I'd go there time and time again!!! It's the spot for a great meal!!

Came here straight after work since I was starving and ordered me the oxtail plate and I can say I was amazed at the flavor and tenderness.

Maaaaaaan, I had a food coma from this Oxtail Plate with White Rice, Collard Greens w/ Hammocks, Candied Yams and Cornbread. My wife ordered the Fried Chicken Wings, Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens w/ Hammocks, Candied Yams and Cornbread. If you want some good soul food, Bojax Kitchen in Oakland is the best in town!

    Eggs, Grits and Salmon Croquettes.

Food - 5 Stars We had breakfast and the food was SO GOOD, we ordered lunch to go! Salmon Croquettes were flavorful, fresh and fried to a golden crunchy brown. Amazing. Grits were a star! Creamy thick consistency, with a buttery savory delicious flavor. So fulfilling. Eggs, perfectly seasoned, peppery! Delicious! Didn't need to doctor a thing. This man can cook. Not up for debate! Service - 5 stars Chef Vernon is so kind and hospitable. He made me feel as if we were in his home. He graciously offered some other items on his menu and OMG!! His oxtails!! My second pic tells you all you need to know on how that tasting went. I can't WAIT to eat dinner tonight. But I'm so full from Breakfast! Who does that?!? Goes in for breakfast and leaves with dinner?!? #greedy Ambiance - Restaurant is small and unassuming. But it's Chef Vernon that makes it homey! I like it when the owners engage with their clients. It just makes the experience so much more relaxed and familial. I'll be back, maybe midweek. Don't judge me!! Get into it. You will not be sorry. Thank you, Chef Vernon. I'm so looking forward to dinner tonight.

Now on to my poor boyfriends meal... he actually wanted what I ordered lol! We tend to always want the same meals ag places but since i'm so picky he's always thoughtful and lets me get it then he'll order something different. He went with the Meatloaf with mac and rice and gravy..... i'm sure you can tell just by the picture of that meatloaf he wasn't very happy! I forgot to take a pic of what it looked like when we cut it.. but it was RAW. The sauce they smothered it in was disgusting. The gravy on rice was beyond salty. The only item edible on our plates was our mac. I wouldn't be back nor do I recommend them. There prices are way too high for the quality of their food. Oakland has way more soul food places worth checking out!

The only reason why I gave 4 stars is because I can't bring myself to agree with the price of their breakfast sides compared to what you get. & it may have been some months but they used to fill both sides with grits. Seems like portions are getting cut for Togo orders maybe but prices are staying the same. For 3 slices of thin xtra crispy pieces of bacon (actually two slices and burnt pieces) it's $8.25+ I remember thinking it was insane so I never added any extra meat and after going recently I was reminded why, my order came out to $27, when I opened the side of bacon I was disappointed. I believe the quality and quantity should better match the price. Otherwise I'll gladly go buy a full pack of thick cut Oscar Meyer bacon for less than what they're charging for 3 slices and just add it at home lol. it's tough for business owners and consumers out here so while I understand price increase, it should still make sense for the consumer. Still love this place down. Just won't be paying for a side again.

The yams were bland and watery, even after we tried to doctor them up with sugar, cinnamon, and a bit of lemon. The mac and cheese wasn't cheesy and was also very bland. My snapper sandwich was underwhelming. The fish didn't taste fresh and the sandwich only had lettuce and tomato, no cheese (-_-). The collard greens were ok but they had a lot of stems and I'm pretty sure I saw mustard greens mixed in. Our total came out to a whopping $58 including tip and I low‑key regret tipping that much because the food was not satisfying at all. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.

As someone who has works in the restaurant industry, I understand firsthand how challenging this business can be, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people who work hard to make a dining experience memorable. That's why I don't say this lightly when I say that our food experience tonight was extremely disappointing. We ordered the pork chop, which was okay, but the cabbage side was honestly hard to eat. I'm not sure if it was intended to be slaw or steamed cabbage, but it was essentially wet cabbage with very little flavor. The potatoes were decent, although the portion was quite small and they had a texture that tasted almost like boxed mashed potatoes. The biscuits were extremely dry and hard, and unfortunately, the butter served alongside them wasn't very good either. The spinach that came with the special was, without exaggeration, one of the worst parts of the meal. It had a very unpleasant taste that made us question whether something was off with it. There really wasn't another way to describe it. For a $44 plate, I expect the steak to be cooked properly, the sides to be flavorful and thoughtfully prepared, and the entire dish to feel worth the price. We also ordered a peach soda that was $10, which already feels very expensive for a soft drink. What was even more surprising was finding out that refills were not complimentary. That's something I feel should be clearly communicated when ordering. This is supposed to be soul food, a style of cooking known for bold, comforting, flavorful food. Unfortunately, our meal just didn't deliver that. Everyone at our table left feeling unsatisfied. We spent $163 for three entrées, three drinks, and two orders of biscuits. When you spend that kind of money and the food is exceptional, you leave feeling like it was money well spent. When the experience falls this far short, it's understandably frustrating and leaves you questioning the value. I do want to give credit where it's due: our server was wonderful. We had absolutely no complaints about the service. He was attentive, pleasant, and did her job well. I genuinely hope this feedback is received in the spirit it's intended. I know how difficult the restaurant business is, and I'm not looking to tear anyone down. I simply believe that when a meal costs this much, the quality, flavor, portions, and overall execution should reflect the price.
