I ordered three dinners - the oxtails, the smothered turkey chops, and the smother pork chops. All three were ordered with greens and Mac n cheese. The cornbread came with each. Bojax owes me nothing!!!! Our family enjoyed every bite. Did I mention the yams, red beans and rice were a hit, and we had to order extra cornbread. Stopped in for lunch and let me tell you! Food was BOMB!! We ordered the oxtails plate, fried chicken plate, and the smothered pork-chop plate, banana pudding, and kool-aid. We decided to eat in. Small place but really genuine home felt ambiance. We waited for about 15-20 minutes and man the food did it disappoint and the wait was well worth it! Big portions including sides. Oxtails and pork-chops was juicy and tender. Fried chicken was fresh and hot. Collard greens was hella good and my favorite side. Finished it off with some amazing banana pudding and good ol kool-aid fruit punch. Owner and cook checked up on us a couple times made sure we were good. I got the oxtails with mac n cheese and yams. It comes served over rice with gravy. I was told they greens were good but they didn't have any during my visit. Oxtails 10/10. And unlike other restaurants, they serve them everyday! There is seating inside. The restaurant is small so there is limited seating. Nothing fancy. We ordered the smothered pork chops dinner. It was supposed to come with three pork chops but we only received two and they were tough and inedible. Order was supposed to include three sides and cornbread. We ordered red beans & rice, mac & cheese and candied yams. Received rice & gravy, mac and cheese and collard greens. There was also no cornbread. There was no gravy on the pork chops as it was all absorbed by the rice underneath. They were supposed to contact me for substitutions but failed to do so. This level of ineptness is unconscionable. The owner responded that the meal comes with two pork chops, rice and gravy and two sides but DoorDash and his website contradict his assertion. Fix your DoorDash information. The owner stated that DoorDash made a mistake setting up his account but his website clearly says three pork chops, three sides and cornbread. This is a small, locally owned one-man shop. I admire the entrepreneurship but the service is slow (he told us 15 minutes for takeout but it took 45.) The food quality varies by dish - we ordered a burger (not good), a shrimp salad (shrimp was perfectly cooked, generous distribution) and a catfish po'boy (good portion, came with fries, but the bread was not crispy and a bit soggy from being in the takeout container.) The prices were reasonable for lunch. I'm not sure how much of the food quality is because we ordered 3 dishes and there was a single person behind the counter so they were not all done at once but takeaway at the same time. read more

First of all, this is a black owned business so already I am enthused to show my support and love on a service that provides positive representation for minorities and caters to its community at the same time. Secondly, for it to be a one man show, the owner and operator of this restaurant does a pretty damn good job of taking and making orders all on his own. Both online and in person. He makes phenomenal oxtails. I got chicken wings this time and loved them. Unfortunately I do not like the fact that he doesn't have regular plain cornbread because I prefer mine without the jalopeños, however the chicken and macaroni are always very tasty. You can eat inside the dining area if you wish, but I chose to go eat in the car so I could be as messy as I wanted with a little privacy. I'd take out only because I tend to get claustrophobic. Owner greeted us and asked what we would like. We looked at the menu for a minute. I chose the Al's Special! I love me some rice with ground beef! For me personally the it was too eggy. I thought it was more of a rice plate, turns out it's more eggs and ground beef lite rice. I added onions as it doesn't come with. For me it was a miss. I thought ground beef had flavor, I'm just not a egg type of girl. Don't judge me! My baby ordered the fruity pebbles pancakes with eggs and sausage. It was good.. only disappointing factor was they didn't give us any butter, syrup or even jelly! So pancakes were just dry fruity pebbles pancakes. I think the owner was short staffed as we only seen him in the kitchen. So that's why I'll say our first time here wasn't a total success. The other day I was in the area looking for an address, and noticed this new restaurant. It had already closed for the day, but for some reason I remembered the name. So yesterday I had a craving for a traditional breakfast, I was flipping thru my DoorDash app, and it popped up...."Bojax Kitchen." I ordered the French Toast w/ eggs and sausage. Positives: The French Toast was great! Three thick slices, cinnamon flavor, moist and still hot. The two slices of breakfast sausage were juicy, with a strong flavor. Didn't taste like frozen sausage. The side of scrambled eggs were perfectly blended. Negatives: You forgot the butter and syrup in the order. Menu doesn't say it's extra. ------------------------------------------------------------- BTW, I watched their video, Bojax Kitchen boasts the "best soul food in Oakland!" The restaurant inside is small with about 4 tables and then there is a tent with 2 or 3 more two seater tables out front. The neighborhood is what it is, but no extracurricular activities that morning. I ordered the eggs, grits and salmon croquettes (now that I think about it, he never asked how I wanted my eggs prepared-so not sure if there are options outside of scrambled with hella pepper). The grits were a good consistency and hella buttery. The salmon croquettes were not store bought frozen patties and I was pleased, but they could use a bit more seasoning.
