Hello all, I don't normally do this. But this place needed to get this honest opinion, let me say first off I walked in the place and it's a mess, used dishes still on tables and things all over the counter. I got the Al's special which I get at cafe la fongs "the whole kitchen sink" the two gentlemen there were unprofessional didn't even have change for me, my food was 13.25 I gave them 20$ they didn't have 6.75 to give me. With that being said I felt awkward and had to order a drink I didn't want. I didn't get my change handed in my hand it was left on the counter. Portions are small and I ordered pick up. My food was smashed. Safe to say I'll stick to what I know. For bigger portions toast and better service. I'll continue to go to cafe la fong. read more

I really wanted to like this place as I love to support black owned businesses and I would give more stars as the food is not bad. I've had my share of good and bad with this place. As stated the food is good. Not much seasoning is needed after you receive the food. The service is... meh. I've had my order cancelled, I've not received all of the items that I've ordered and lastly. I ordered food for pickup on Yelp, received confirmation that my food was ready but when I arrived at the restaurant no one was there. TV was on in the restaurant but no answer to me knocking. I called and no one answered. This went on for 20 minutes. I finally called Grubhub for a refund. I got the grits, eggs, and sausage and it blew my mind. I'm from Georgia and used to southern cooking and this meal reminded me of home. I have a special place in my heart for new businesses and really try to understand that we are coming out of a pandemic but my experience here was just not acceptable. The good: Bacon was crispy. After waiting 15 minutes for the cook to show up I asked what the two best items on the menu were and was told that the chicken and waffles and the Rambo special. So I finally got the food over an hour after I arrived. The waffle was soft (are you kidding me ?) and super small for $13. It was the size of an ego waffle and totally limp. The Rambo special was supposed to blow me Away and was actually missing the sausage patty. Some of the potatoes were under cooked, eggs were an average scrambled. I really am frustrated at the quality of the food I paid $32 for and had to wait nearly 80 minutes for. You would think after making me wait that long that they would of given me something additional or taken money off. I welcome the owner to contact me directly. 2 weeks later and still no contact from the owners. How do you expect to stay in business when you don't care about your customers experience ? read more

I went into this place for the first time since I live in the neighborhood and they are new. I'm always down to check out new spots and help the local community. They def have some growing pains. I was the only one that was there and the food took about 20 minutes to prepare. They were out of some ingredients and had to run down the street to get them. The food was ok and the staff was really nice. I'm hoping to come back in a month or two when they are fully up and running. I hope they do well as a business. read more

My neighbor and I stopped in for take out lunch and got the Catfish Poor Boy and the Philly Cheese Steak. Food was pretty good and good portions. Both the catfish and the cheese steak were well seasoned, bread was good, steak was good, garnishments were good and catfish was not heavily breaded and not greasy. The ladies behind the counter and at the grill were delightful. It took about 15 minutes to get our food so kind of slow, fast food. I'll be back to try the specials and the chili. Restaurant is basic but clean and comfortable with 3 or 4 tables inside and one table on the sidewalk. read more

Best shrimp po' boy this side of NOLA! Shrimp were deliciously fried, and the dressings were spot on. Portions are solid, the price is right, and the staff is super friendly. Good Morning Yelp Fam. Sadly, I have to leave a one star review for Bojax. In an effort to continue to seek out and support Black business in Oakland, I and a guest went here for breakfast. The first strike was when we walked in the cook/owner/server walked past us three times without so much as a glance. We sat there with the slow blink thinking wtf. After about 10 minutes of waiting I asked a young man who seemed to know the cook/owner/server, if he was going to return to the restaurant anytime soon ( he walked in and out about 3 times). The young man said " I think so"...hmm, ok. If time were not a factor we would have left. Long story longer, we ate ( food was bland and salmon croquets were a disaster). Wanted breakfast this morning, I usually dnt get a chance to eat breakfast seeing I start work early during the weekdays, seen a Al's special, and the original Al's special popped up in my head which was off of seminary and foothill. I must say, this is a disgrace to the original Al's special, for 15 bucks it most definitely wasn't worth it at all. My lady had the steak and eggs, on the picture it shows a T-bone steak, what she got was cut up steak, she said it was good but expected what they had up on the picture. My kids liked the fruity pebble pancake, but what kid wouldn't like that you know. I'm all for supporting black owned businesses, BUT THIS IS NOT IT. This is most definitely not the best breakfast spot in oakland, and the person who said wrote a review stating that, I feel like is either a close friend of there's or a family member. Yum! I saw the menu online and got a craving for the catfish po'boy and was not disappointed. The fish was nicely fried and just salty enough, and I'm always happy when pickles are around. It was huge, but I managed to eat the whole thing by sacrificing some bread, and it was worth it. I also got a peach cobbler to look forward to today. The place is small, with a few tables inside and one outside, so this might be a to-go spot more than anything but that's OK; it's really near where I live. The women working there couldn't have been nicer. We did have to wait about 15-20 minutes for our food, which they told us would be the case. Let me begin by saying the service was incredible I was able to order my meal and eat it while on my lunch break and drank 2 glasses of some screaming Kool Aid (red of course). I was greeted with hellos and welcomes and departed with thank you and have a nice day. By far the most genuine down to earth staff in Oakland.
