Since I don't gate keep, I guess I'll share my experience lol. This place is so bomb. My son got the French toast breakfast. It looks basic but it was really good. He devoured it. I got the oxtails with mac n cheese and yams. It comes served over rice with gravy. I was told they greens were good but they didn't have any during my visit. Oxtails 10/10. And unlike other restaurants, they serve them everyday! There is seating inside. The restaurant is small so there is limited seating. Nothing fancy. If you eat there, you will be served with the takeout containers and cutlery.

    From the restaurant website

We ordered the smothered pork chops dinner. It was supposed to come with three pork chops but we only received two and they were tough and inedible. Order was supposed to include three sides and cornbread. We ordered red beans & rice, mac & cheese and candied yams. Received rice & gravy, mac and cheese and collard greens. There was also no cornbread. There was no gravy on the pork chops as it was all absorbed by the rice underneath. They were supposed to contact me for substitutions but failed to do so. This level of ineptness is unconscionable. The owner responded that the meal comes with two pork chops, rice and gravy and two sides but DoorDash and his website contradict his assertion. Fix your DoorDash information. The owner stated that DoorDash made a mistake setting up his account but his website clearly says three pork chops, three sides and cornbread. It appears that the owner doesn't know what he's doing or he's a dishonest bait and switch. Photo of the description from the restaurant website is posted below.

Our first time visiting Bojax Kitchen!! One of the best soul food places!! Service was amazing! Food was amazing! We only waited 10 minutes for our order! The corn bread was soooo delicious!! Thank you for the wonderful meal and the excellent service!! We'll see you again soon.

They gave me so much food it was so delicious !! ever time I come it's delicious and the portions are great !!! Great service

Went there for a family brunch and man-o-man we ordered almost every item on the menu. It was so good, we ate there and took meals home for later. The service was excellent, cheerful, and very friendly. The owner greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed, which really made us all feel very special!! I'd go there time and time again!!! It's the spot for a great meal!!

Came here straight after work since I was starving and ordered me the oxtail plate and I can say I was amazed at the flavor and tenderness.

Maaaaaaan, I had a food coma from this Oxtail Plate with White Rice, Collard Greens w/ Hammocks, Candied Yams and Cornbread. My wife ordered the Fried Chicken Wings, Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens w/ Hammocks, Candied Yams and Cornbread. If you want some good soul food, Bojax Kitchen in Oakland is the best in town!

Food - 5 Stars We had breakfast and the food was SO GOOD, we ordered lunch to go! Salmon Croquettes were flavorful, fresh and fried to a golden crunchy brown. Amazing. Grits were a star! Creamy thick consistency, with a buttery savory delicious flavor. So fulfilling. Eggs, perfectly seasoned, peppery! Delicious! Didn't need to doctor a thing. This man can cook. Not up for debate! Service - 5 stars Chef Vernon is so kind and hospitable. He made me feel as if we were in his home. He graciously offered some other items on his menu and OMG!! His oxtails!! My second pic tells you all you need to know on how that tasting went. I can't WAIT to eat dinner tonight. But I'm so full from Breakfast! Who does that?!? Goes in for breakfast and leaves with dinner?!? #greedy Ambiance - Restaurant is small and unassuming. But it's Chef Vernon that makes it homey! I like it when the owners engage with their clients. It just makes the experience so much more relaxed and familial. I'll be back, maybe midweek. Don't judge me!! Get into it. You will not be sorry. Thank you, Chef Vernon. I'm so looking forward to dinner tonight.

First of all, this is a black owned business so already I am enthused to show my support and love on a service that provides positive representation for minorities and caters to its community at the same time. Secondly, for it to be a one man show, the owner and operator of this restaurant does a pretty damn good job of taking and making orders all on his own. Both online and in person. He makes phenomenal oxtails. I got chicken wings this time and loved them. Unfortunately I do not like the fact that he doesn't have regular plain cornbread because I prefer mine without the jalopeños, however the chicken and macaroni are always very tasty. You can eat inside the dining area if you wish, but I chose to go eat in the car so I could be as messy as I wanted with a little privacy. I tore my plate down as quickly as I got it so there were no leftovers but I'm not upset. I was full and happy.

So glad there is a DoorDash pickup option to enjoy this restaurant when I don't have "cash only"…read moredining as an option. I had to try the Fried Chicken and I got the breast meat. It was flavorful, delicious and tender. It came with a couple eggs, a couple biscuits and I did the hash browns as my side. I love sweet potato pie and cheesecake so I had to order the sweet potato cheesecake and it was amazing. The food was ready in about 15 minutes and the lady helping me was friendly and provided good customer service. I love the decor with all the photos of all the folks that have enjoyed Lois' food. I hate leaving negative reviews, but unfortunately I have to be honest about my experience…read more I ordered the macaroni and cheese, short ribs, yams, and rice with gravy on Father's Day and spent about $57. Out of everything I ordered, only the fish trom the second plate was decent. The rice was extremely hard, as if it wasn't cooked properly. The gravy had an unpleasant taste and ended up being poured over everything, including the macaroni and cheese, which made it difficult to enjoy. The yams were cut into huge chunks with little care or presentation. The biggest disappointment was the short ribs. The meat quality was very poor, with an unpleasant taste and texture that made it nearly impossible to eat. I was genuinely shocked by how bad it was. For the amount of money I spent, I expected much better quality, preparation, and presentation. Nothing was separated properly, and the meal felt rushed and carelessly put together. I am very disappointed, especially since this was supposed to be a Father's Day meal. I wanted to support this business, but based on this experience, I cannot justify spending $57 for food of this quality. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so improvements can be made in the future

The service is so kind that it makes up for the next part of the review which gives the food a 3/5. The fried shrimp didn't have much seasoning but was crispy. The red beans and rice was a little mushy and had more beans than rice. The potato salad was lacking in flavor. These sides 3/5 I did enjoy the collard greens, cabbage, and the Mac and cheese. My partner said the cabbage should have had some meat in it to make the flavors more robust. I like it without the bacon and meat personally. It caters to a more vegetarian clean eating crowd. If it was in the stock I'm not sure... these sides were a 4/5 The oxtails we ordered was DELICIOUS. Probably some of the best most tender oxtail I could buy from a restaurant . 5/5!!

My experience with this restaurant has been inconsistent, but my most recent catering order was…read moreextremely disappointing. The first time I visited, it was late in the evening and they had already sold out of several items. The food I did try was average at best--about a 2.5/5. The second time, I went with someone who knew the owner, and the experience was completely different. Everything was excellent--easily a 5/5. Based on that visit, I felt confident enough to place a large catering order for a Black History Month event at my job. I ordered yams, dressing with gravy, greens, mac & cheese, fried catfish, fried chicken, cornbread, peach cobbler, and German chocolate cake. The total came to $590, which I paid immediately after confirming via text. I requested that the food be ready by 2 PM since the event started at 3 PM. When I arrived, nothing was ready. There was also confusion about my order--they initially only prepared one dessert, even though I was charged for both cobbler and cake. I had to show proof of my order to resolve that. As the food slowly became available, I was handed trays one at a time with no assistance, meaning I had to carry everything to my car by myself. On top of that, the cornbread I ordered was never provided. The food wasn't fully ready until around 3 PM, which caused delays for my event. Unfortunately, the quality didn't match my previous experience either. The fried catfish pieces were extremely small--more like nuggets than full portions. The dressing was undercooked and even had large turkey bones in it, which was unacceptable. The greens had excessive liquid, which I had to drain before transporting them. Overall, this was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Order accuracy was a 1/5, timeliness and service (including lack of assistance) was a 1/5, and food quality was about a 2.5/5. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. For catering orders or anything from a local soul food restaurant I'd highly recommend Ys Choice.

They are about to celebrate their 20th anniversary and one can see why. They make the best fried chicken in town! Not just great fried chicken, but other great dishes as well. We always start with fried okra and fried pickles. The fried okra is always cooked to perfection, and never slimy! The fried pickles are thin, crispy with a spicy remoulade that pairs perfectly. The corn bread comes with a delicious, sweet butter and the Red Beans and Rice with Andouille is not to be missed. The mashed potatoes and gravy and Mac and cheese are always ordered along with a bucket of fried chicken. The fried chicken here is crunchy, juicy and full of flavor.
