I see the stellar reviews but I just can't agree. The spot is okay for what it is. I'm a big fan of JJs and unfortunately my meal here just didn't live up to the hype. I got two orders of #20, which comes with 2 wings, 3 catfish, 2 shrimp and choice of fried rice or fries for each. The fries are some of the worst I've ever had. They have no salt or flavor or anything. The wings were a lot smaller than I expected they'd be, but you do get a whole wing. Everything tasted over fried and semi flavorless. I asked for hot sauce, ketchup and tartar sauce but they're pretty stingy with it. They gave us 4 tiny packets of each... and mind you, I said packets :( I ordered a side of hushpuppies and those tasted pretty good. They're tiny though, so you get 8 small little gumballs for about $3. There isn't really customer service here. You can call in an order, but they still expect you to come in and pay first. It's a little confusing because there's just one small window that they take orders and give out orders out of. It's a small space so it gets crowded fast, making it hard to know who is in line, and who is simply waiting for their food. TBH I wouldn't be in a rush to come back but when I do, I'm def gonna try that shrimp burger I see everyone raving about.

This is an interesting little place. I think we had tried them about seven years ago. It was good then, but I didn't write a review. For the past two weeks, I've been craving both Fried Chicken and Fried Fish. This morning, we saw a YouTube on Pioneer Chicken in Los Angeles and Bell Gardens. That broke the camel's back. I had to have some fried chicken! The lobby area is very small. There are four or five chairs for guests to sit in but the business is for take-out. The menu boards are above and next to the ordering area. Pro Note: pay close attention to the vertically positioned "Specials" board. If you compare these items and prices to those of the two horizontally positioned boards, you will get a little bit more for your money. Ordering is done by item number at a window similar to a movie house box office. The order taker is on the other side of the glass and there is a microphone/speaker on each side. There's a cut-out under the glass to make payment by cash or credit card. There is also a small sliding window that orders can be passed through. For larger orders, there is a metal screened door to the left of the windows. Items are cooked to order so it will take a bit to get your order out. I think our order took about 20 minutes. Be sure to pay your parking meter so you don't get jammed up. What did we order? Always better to have too much than not enough. I wanted fish and chicken. She wanted chicken. Decisions! Decisions! #4 - 10 Whole Fried Chicken Wings - 5 - Crispy, moist, wings. The entire wing! Drumette, flat and tip. No, it's not Pioneer Chicken, but then no one e.lse offers that delicious, weirdly orange, super crunchy, super moist chicken either. Those of you who remember, know. Those of you who don't, need to make the pilgrimage down to SoCal #31 - Wander's Sampler - 5 - No, I don't know who Wander is or was but Wander liked seafood and so do I! 4 pieces each of Catfish and Red Snapper, 3 Large Prawns, 3 Small Battered and Fried Oysters and 3 Hush Puppies. It also came with a slice of white bread and our choice of French Fries or Fried Rice. The Fried Rice was quite simple and surprisingly good. It was just rice, egg with peas and carrots. The Seafood was well battered and fried. The Hush Puppies were excellent, crispy outside and cooked throughout. Service quality was good although perhaps appearing somewhat haphazard. Once you paid for your order, you get a scrap of paper with number written on it. Don't lose that little scrap of paper because you have to turn it in to get your order. If you don't have it, you better remember what you had ordered as they will go through it to make sure that it's really yours. Ketchup, Hot Sauce and Tartar Sauce were included in the bag as well as one fork and Soy Sauce (for the fried rice) and napkins. There wasn't any cocktail sauce. We figure that what we ordered was probably just enough food for four.

Shrimp burger (photos don't do it justice) and a catfish and shrimp COMBO

I usually get my ABC (American Born Chinese) food from Fountain Garden a block away but unfortunately they're closed on Mondays so ya boi had to get some type of protein with fried rice so #1 Seafood and Chicken Restaurant is a good... uh, an alternative... option to that because they serve fried rice. The shrimp fried rice here is normally bomb on its own but the accoutrements is what elevates this place.? Depends on "chef" as well. + Shrimp burger (5/5) is fire AF! I thought I was gonna get a minced shrimp cake with a Costco bun and Safeway tartar sauce but it was so delish. Originally it didn't make sense but eventually it was so fire, I was shook. Maybe it's nostalgia but I love me some crinkle cut fries vs. shoestring or steak fries. The lettuce, tomatoes and onions were fresher than my haircut. The picture I posted does not do this place justice but then again I'm not a YouTube or IG influencer so take it for what you will but it's was yumz.com. + Fried catfish, skrimp and hush puppies combo (4/5), they must fry these in crack oil because it's so addictive. Being a fry fish restaurant, I'm sure they got their methodology down because everything is always crispy but also so moist (literally food p0rn) but takeout can be as dry as a desert or maybe a bad tinder profile. I'm not a big fan of hushpuppies (aka deep fried corn bread balls) but theirs was decent. I can taste some of the spices albeit 5 spice or white pepper with salt and sugar. Not my main go-to spot for fish and chips but definitely an alternative option. If you want to know what's good in the hood, #1 chicken and seafood is ghettO fabulous!

Stale bread, a few fries and good fish.

We saw a street parking as soon as we turn, and just parked even though it was 1000 ft away. The drink/cocktail list is vast, but we are not much of a cocktail drinker and not usually drink during lunch, but I saw Matcha Sharka being ordered a lot and the other seemingly popular drink was this lavender drink. If you are a cocktail drinker during lunch, do check them out. We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

We tried: Hibiscus Tacos Bison Meatballs (A personal favorite!) Kickapoo Bison Chili Hibiscus & Corn Silk Tea (So refreshing!) Interestingly, the meal reminded me of flavors from different parts of the world--it's amazing how cooking styles diffuse globally. The frybread has strong similarities to a Cantonese fried dough called ham chim peng (sometimes served plain like this, or stuffed with red or sweet lotus paste). The bison chili also vaguely reminded me of a hearty minestrone soup, albeit with a richer tomato base. Our absolute standouts were the meatballs and the corn silk tea. Definitely a spot worth checking out, just make sure to book ahead! Service was good.
