Made a last minute reservation here on OpenTable. Located on the ground floor of Grand Victoria Casino, it is outside the secure gaming area so those under 21 are allowed to dine there. The restaurant is split into two portions; the more lowkey bar area, and the full service white tablecloth steakhouse. We dined in the steakhouse. The apps were a decent start but pretty uneventful. The chateaubriand was cut and plated table side, but it was a fairly modest affair. We requested a medium rare cook however what was on the medium well side. We got both sauces on offer, and strongly preferred the bernaise. Steak was okay, hard to mess up a tenderloin but could be better. Sides were delicious. Overall the experience could have been better. Not sure if I would dine here without a celebration dinner credit. read more

Steaks were cooked to perfection. Salad was great. Service was great. Baked potato looked like it had been backing all day where the skin looks like a loose bag around it but the potato itself was good (needs to be rubbed in olive oil and some rock salt on the outside chef). They serve Allen brothers steak which is what the fancy steakhouses in Chicago serve so pretty darn lucky to have that here. Sad clientele of usually lonely gamblers dining solo but we went on a Thursday night. Maybe more lively on the weekend. But that was great for us. It was nice and quiet. We made a reservation so there was no wait. The food was ok. Steak was undercooked. Broccolini and asparagus were overcooked. Loaded baked potato was done right. Server was horrible. Went there for a double birthday dinner on 9/28/23. Our waitress was 5*. She told us that this restaurant was working to get back to it's former level of excellence. They have work to do. Main problem was that they used substitute for the crab in their stuffed mushrooms. This led to a horrible reaction to one of the people in the party who has a severe reaction to any finned fish. The steak ordered was poorly prepared and the 'sear' was very underdone. The risotto was soooo soupy, it was more like a rice pudding. And speaking of pudding, the creme brûlée was obviously a jello vanilla pudding. So NOT worth the hefty price tag. We will NOT return. read more

Service - 5 Stars Ambience & Decor - 5 Stars Steaks cooked to correct temperature - 3 stars Taste - still 5 stars, despite the 3 star above So I'll settle on 4 stars for Buckinghams. Hubby ordered the rack of lamb, cooked medium, and his was perfectly cooked to medium. Delish! He was a bit sad they didn't include any of the sauce it came with (in a small bowl on his plate) in a little container as he took half of his meal home. I ordered mushrooms with my steak and they put those in a small separate box for me. My friend and I both ordered Porterhouse steaks. I ordered mine medium rare - the smaller tenderloin side was cooked perfectly medium rare. The larger strip steak side was medium. Same thing for my friend's who asked for his medium - the tenderloin portion was medium but the strip steak side was medium well. Hmm. I would hope a nice steakhouse could cook the steaks to the proper temperature so I'm not sure what the issue was. But, the QUALITY of the cut was still outstanding - tender and flavorful. The side of mushrooms I ordered for my steak deserves it's own paragraph! Wow. It was an extra $5 which seems steep for mushrooms but these were worth it. They were large with a nice meaty texture, cooked perfectly and enough that I will have mushrooms to enjoy with both rounds of leftovers I will get from my steak. The three of us shared a slice of cheesecake since we were nearly stuffed. I thought "New York Style" cheesecake was supposed to be a creamier texture, but I'm not a cheesecake expert so I'm not sure. It was just your average cheesecake, nothing special about it or the crust. It said it came with a chocolate sauce, but it was more of a chocolate drizzle. Fine by me, but if you are a chocolate fan you might want to ask for more. The whole fresh blackberries & raspberries it came with were perfectly ripe & a nice touch. The service was outstanding. My sister and I were on our own for Thanksgiving. We decided to go way out of the box and try the the casino steakhouse (neither one of us gamble). The reservation calendar was wide open so we got a perfect time. They featured a turkey dinner so we both chose that as our entree. We also had the crab cake appetizer. The crab cakes were very good and beautifully presented with micro greens on top. When our entrees were served, they were impressive! Huge platters piled high with every traditional side dish. Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries, stuffing and the most tender dark & light meat turkey. The whole meal was just great! My sister had never had Creme Brulé, so I insisted we have it for dessert and it was an instant winner! The server head very friendly and pleasant. We really enjoyed the whole evening. read more

Well all they way up to our trip I was looking forward to eating here. So we have got to the restaurant am I excited yes. So we get seated I order salad augraten potatoes. The salad tasted dirty. One of my favorite steakhouses. It would be a tough choice between here or Morton's steakhouse. I made reservations because on Friday's & Saturdays this place is usually busy. However by the time we arrived at 9 it wasn't crowded which was a plus because it gives the staff more time to focus on your table. We started off with drinks & some appetizers. For appetizers we had an order of fresh oysters & an order of oysters rockefeller. This place has the absolute best oysters that I have had. Most places have oysters that have a really fishy taste or smell but not here. The oysters are very fresh & you can taste the quality. For our main entree we ordered a 12 oz. fillet & a porterhouse. The food arrived about ten to fifteen minutes after the appetizers which was great timing. My steak was a little bit over cooked on the side but after a few bites it was great. I had a few bites of the porterhouse as well & it was also great. Lastly I usually don't get dessert after steak but the desserts here are awesome. We ordered the big chocolate cake with a side of vanilla. They call it the big chocolate cake because it is massive. Overall this place is worth the money. When you walk in you will never know you are in a casino, or Elgin even. It is a very small but charming steakhouse with a hunt club feel and décor. It is a dressier steakhouse than most and the cozy smaller feel makes it almost romantic for a casino. We eat at casino steakhouses at least once a month, all over the country and I always love the feel and food here. We have had dinner here 4 or 5 times and I feel they do what they know very well. First it is by far the most reasonable priced casino steakhouse in the state but with a good amount of food. You get two sides with each steak and they bring really good bread to start with. I love the scallop appetizer with the slightly sweet corn salsa. The scallops are always cooked perfect and large. They give you three with the order and we fight over the last one always. The steaks are always cooked perfect and my husband loves the lobster pasta they offer. The service is kind but always short. Something that could be fixed with more training. The best part is you get really good after dinner chocolates, a great touch that goes noticed every time. read more

This is not my first time at Buckinghams. Went 3 years ago and the food was very much "steakhouse" food, and very good. Went tonight. Limited menu, due to Covid, which is completely understandable. Bistro salad, good. Filet with lobster tails, awful. The meat tasted of tenderizer and the lobster tails were flat, small and overcooked. I had another losing session at Grand Victoria...no surprise there. It so happened I was given a $50 voucher to dine at any of the restaurants so decided to go there to soothe my losing ways. I went just before 9pm on a Thursday so there wasn't much of a crowd. It took about 5 minutes before a server came over to seat me. I guess the servers double up as host and hostesses. The place is pretty dark and there's plenty of mood music if you're with a date, which of course I wasn't. Oh well...*LOL*. My server Juan was attentive enough. I ordered a moscato which is my newest fave wine. It tasted pretty good. I ordered as an appetizer their Blue Crab Cakes. The Crab Cakes were placed over roasted red pepper relish. The relish bought much needed flavor to the cakes, which had plenty of crabmeat. So glad it wasn't mostly bread like the stuff I usually find in stores. Speaking of bread, the loaf they offered was fairly warm. I was okay with the whipped spread but used it sparingly. I decided on the Porterhouse steak which was cooked medium well. I ordered it with a side of garlic mash potatoes and green beans. The steak came out good enough and I had leftovers afterwards. I decided on the bread pudding which wasn't the best but was okay. I'll probably return to try some of their other offerings. And hopefully win a jackpot to pay for the meal...*LOL*. read more

This was my second time at Buckingham's. My parents took me out for a belated birthday dinner. My first experience at Buckingham's was when I was younger (underage; the restaurant is in a casino) and I remembered good things, so I was excited to come back! We started off with a bottle of wine, Chardonnay, and specifically asked for a dry one. The waitress uncorked the bottle and let my dad have a try. Good to go. I didn't want to fill up on bread, but I had one loaf, and it was nice and warm. We then started with crab cakes, calamari, and a lobster bisque soup. All were delicious but I was anticipating my dinner, surf and turf (which they had a special on.) They give you a decent portion of food, with two sides included, veggies and a double baked potato. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, which was good, but the seasoning was SO good it took me by surprise. All in all, the food was excellent. At this point, we are pretty full but we order a dessert, a hazelnut tiramisu, which I picked. My dad asks the waitress if she can put a candle on it for my birthday, which she did. The tiramisu was a perfect touch to the end of the dinner. If that wasn't enough they send you off with a complimentary truffle, which I boxed along with my dessert. The service could have been a touch more attentive, since we had to call our waitress over for a couple of extras throughout the night, but I also don't like to be waited on too much. I may have found my new favorite place out here. It may not be yours. Buckingham's has a lot going for it, but I'd like to provide a tiny bit about me and why my review should matter a little. I travel extensively for business and a big part of my business is spending time in steakhouses with customers. From Carnevino to St. Elmo's to Peter Luger's, if you can drop a few too many coins on a killer piece of meat and it's near a major metro, I've either been there or have it on my list. Before leaving grad school, I worked in restaurants specializing in this area. On both sides of the tablecloth, I am familiar if nothing else. So Buckingham's does quite a few things right. The ingredients will meet or exceed your expectations. When you factor in the price, there is no way the quality of the ingredients doesn't exceed expectations. The value to quality ratio leans heavily towards value. Our meal would have been minimum $100 more for 2 at a Morton's or other chain steakhouse. Seared scallops and shrimp cocktail began the night. Scallops were cooked perfectly with a good sear but not overdone. This was a smoking value as well. I may come back and simply order two of these as a meal. The shrimp were probably 4 count shrimp, devoid of any fishy smell, nicely prepped and quite good. Even the cocktail sauce was decent and I'm normally not a big fan (aside from St. Elmo's). The wine list was small, but had some outstanding wines at outstanding prices. The bottle we had there I had recently bought for only about $10 less at out local wine boutique. This value thing keeps popping back up. My steak was expertly prepared. It was a gorgeous cut of prime beef, aged very nicely and incredibly delicious. It came with sides. Really good sides. The potatoes were awesome. My wife loved her meal as well. So this looks like a home run. I mean, all this talk about great food and a killer value... Herein lies the killer. I mentioned having spent a lot of time in restaurants like this. I am used to the coddling level of service, expert bus staff that wait and pounce like tennis ball boys when my water glass drops even slightly below the full mark, someone to monitor and pour my wine and a knowledgable waiter that knows the menu, describes the food and sells me on why I'm spending this much money. Let's delve into some specifics. I was paying our bar tab when my wife was sat. The waitress apparently walked up to the table, said "oh I see you have drinks" and walked away. No introduction, no welcome, no mention of her name. OK, the whole party wasn't seated, passable. I sit. And wait. After 10 minutes or so, the waitress stops back by the table. "You ready to order?" No introduction, no welcome, no mention of her name, or the specials, or the standard steakhouse dissertation about how "the prime quality of their beef represents only 2% of all beef produced in the US and how their proprietary dry aging procedure helps to enhance the delicious natural beef essence" and so on and so forth. I felt like I was at the counter at a Denny's. The room is small. They may call it intimate, but it's definitely small. This in and of itself isn't a killer. I mean, it's Elgin. As a former Elginite, I understand all to well that Casino or not, the local economy could support this type of place if there were many more tables. The downside is the room is very loud. The music is inaudible due to the acoustics amplifying the conversation buzz to a dull roar. And that is what kills the place. Lack of finishing. Lack of attention to detail. I may pick on the Capital Grille, but this type of thing would simply not happen there. The food wouldn't be as good and it would cost more, but to the proletarian palate, it would feel quite a bit more special. I know this isn't the type of dinner most people go out to all the time. And as such, if you're "special occasioning", don't count on Buckingham's to special it up for you. So yeah, probably my new favorite place in the area. I will very likely be back. I don't know how many people I'll bring with me as, for the sake of their perception of the evening, I'll suffer through a (shudder) choice grade steak at Ruth's Chris. read more

Well if you can afford to eat here, then do it. We had some points from the casino which covered our bill for our family. It was my high school graduation '02. We had a feast. The shrimp cocktail were the largest, freshest shrimp that I had ever seen. They were clean and crisp and oh so good. The memory is engraved in me. We had surf and turf and the lobster piece was also fantastically large with buttery goodness and the steak was mouth watering. It is a nice cozy, quiet restaurant. I am glad we didn't have to pay because the bill was $600 for 5 people. These are the types of places where you get your money worth, however. Not like these modern, french or fusion places with the plate larger than a satellite dish and the portion the size of a pea. I look forward to reuniting with Buckinhams one day. read more

Since this is the only restaurant available at the Grand Victoria we thought we would have lunch on Sunday, 6/13. IT IS OPEN. This is a up-scale restaurant which we realized but all we wanted was a salad or burger so we thought we would give it a try. Our waitress and other staff were very nice. However, look at the menu before you go in. The prices are WAY out of line. Maybe some people use their comp points so they don't care. A very unappealing hamburger and fries were $15.00. A small salad with chicken $17.00. We were the only people there and now I know why. The word has gotten around. Big mistake to close Prime and go with something so over-priced it doesn't have a chance of staying open unless everyone gets comp points to pay $45.00 for a steak. Needless to say, we will be stopping somewhere else outside of the Grand Victoria for lunch or dinner from now on. read more

The meal starts off with complimentary bread and crackers with whipped butter. Bread was very good and had roasted garlic baked in. Excellent stuff. We ordered calamari and some cold oysters. Oysters were rather small, you get larger at seafood buffets. Calamari was good but wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it. They have a special every once in a while for a 20 oz steak for $20. It was served with salad, potato and green beans. Salad was plain, just ice berg with a few tomatoes and carrots. The mashed potatoes were amazing...garlicky and buttery. Dessert is also included and it consisted of a square of chocolate cake which I did not try. I got the NY strip and this was the BEST steak I've ever had. To be honest I was not much of a steak person until I started eating like a caveman (paleo diet) so maybe I just never appreciated it before like I do now. That said there is absolutely no comparison to the many chuck steaks and porterhouses I've cooked myself at home. This steak is seasoned to perfection and perfectly broiled to medium rare as I requested. The fat on the edges had just carmelized enough for a crunch. Every bite was consistently rich and tender. Absolutely a piece of dining heaven. I spent the rest of the drive home smiling and commenting on how damn good that steak was and posted here as soon as I got home. The one issue we had was that the server messed up and forgot to bring out salads out at the start of the meal. My sister and I thought we would visit the steakhouse in the Grand Victoria Casino, Elgin. The casino gave us a $50 a piece upgrade, so we figured we'd dine royally. We both ordered the NY strip steak. My sister had to ask for real butter not margarine. Then she had to ask for au jus for the dry steaks and had to remind the waiter for mushrooms on the side. My sister got sick on something and could not continue eating. We had go to the hostess to get a take out bag. This fiasco wasn't worth $94 plus a $20 tip. Not royalty but peons. Ok I missed this... I thought i was wrong place so I had to copy and paste. I wanna do this base on my experienced at buckinghams Steakhouse.... I used to go at buckingham inside of the casino. I brought my co worker there as part of our Christmas celebration and need a break from work. In customer service was nice. Because we did not make reservation so they asked us to sit in the bar and started to get some drinks while waiting for available. 10 minutes of waiting finally we got in to the steak house. We started with oyster and and shrimps! Then followed with ribeyed and some stuff. The taste was spectacular!! I wanted to have drinks again. And i didnt know what i wanted like something sweet. and my co worker had a apple martini. And the guy who served us told me to try the chocolate martini. Wow! thats awesome! I wanted to get more because the taste was really good. We ended up with chocolate cake with ice cream. I was kind of full but i still have enough room for the desserts haha. And you know what they gave the chocolates and i put all in my purst. in the end i was very happy and enjoyed the dinner!!!! i would go back even little pricey! Headed to a food truck event hosted by 101.9 the mix. Lines were loooooong& people waiting over an hour for their food, not a good place to be when you're bordering on hangry. We walked into Buckinghams, nice lounge area with plenty of seating. Hostess seated us at a comfy booth near the back of the restaurant. Dark wood trim, tray ceilings with brass chandeliers& deep seated leather booths add to the supper club vibe. After Cindy our server took our order, the place was soon packed to the gills& due to the small space gets VERY loud. Not sure if the sudden mass of patrons put the kitchen in the weeds but we waited a long time for our food. Fresh almond bread& crackers are tasty, took the edge off. Lobster bisque was good,but the weird cracker spoon though crafty, left little in the taste dept. French onion soup was very melty& the beef consommé base was flavorful not overly salty. We both ordered 12oz filets with garlic mash& broccoli sides...& we waited& waited...40 min later our food arrived on a rolling cart. Though this old school service is truly charming, the restaurant is small& the carts seem more of hindrance to the busy staff. Both of our steaks were over cooked, asked for Med& Med- Rare, received Med/ Well& VERY Well Done. A crime in the land of luscious beefy goodness. I sampled a piece of my filet&though seasoned beautifully, the interior was grey& over cooked. I sent the steak back( it's $40) if you're paying good $$ it should be right. I hate sending back food but I LOVE steak& I wanted to hug my poor little 12 Oz filet who was so wrongfully abused by an overwhelmed member of the cooking staff. Our server Cindy returned 20 min later with a butterflied filet( not my preference but I'm sure done to speed cooking) was cooked to juicy red Med/ rare perfection, but my fiancé was now finished with his meal& my sides were cold. Garlic mash applied with a piping bag was tasty but slightly over salted, broccoli was cooked perfectly. At first I thought our server was not very attentive until I noticed she was working the entire 1/2 of the restaurant on her own, WAY too much for one person. She was very sweet& brought us a free slice of the chocolate cake to go. Cake was moist& the frosting is a bittersweet chocolate, if u order it add the vanilla ice cream. Andre the bartender is wonderful! Excellent person, knows us and what we order. We sit down and he always remembers what we order and how we like our meat cooked, medium rare. He did mantion that there was a new executive chef and some changes had occurred. He however DID NOT mention that it wasn't for the better. We used to go here very often due the fact this is one of the few places that serves Chateaubriand, which is hard to find outside of being downtown. This was a 5+ star restaurant but since the arrival of the new "Executive Chef" it has gone down. Previously the meat was extremely tender and was cooked to perfection with the accompaniment of fresh vegetables, green beans sauted with a hint of garlic and fresh baby carrots with the tops on with a side of duchess potatoes that were amazing. Currently the Chateaubriand was over cooked (both times) and served with large chunks of carrots, celery over whipped potatoes and seasoned heavy with rosemary with a gravy/sauce which overpowered any taste of the meat or vegetable. Chateaubriand is the best of best cut of tenderloin. We are so, so, so disappointed!!!! I fully understand that with the change of Executive Chefs everyone wants to bring their take on food but this was NOT an improvement at all!!! All the flavors of the meat were overpowered by the Rosemary! Why ruin an excellent piece of meat with Rosemary and overcooking? We will not be going back and will have to look for another fine dining establishment that serves Chateaubriand. read more

This is a fabulous restaurant. We were there again this past Saturday. (Oh, yeah, unfortunately I lost over the course of the night. Ha!) Their food and service is 5-Star. Tom had the Tomahawk Prime Rib -- absolutely delicious, though perhaps a bit fatty. I had the Colorado Rack of Lamb...what I always have when we go there. It was out of this world. Both were cooked to perfection. The drinks were great -- I had a couple of dirty martinis, Tom had a few beers. The service was excellent. 5-Star dining and in the suburbs. Great place!!! Was there last night very nice people working there. But was very dissatisfied whit there food. Had tomahawk ribeye was over cooked and very hard to cut. The lobster was also bad. I went there over five years ago was very good. Have sent a lot of friends there. But will not refer them again. And also my wife said that the king crab legs where salty. I had a gift certificate. I took my mom and dad with me. We all had 1 well vodka drink. (21.00) We all had the lobster bisque soup (24.00) Yum so good..Rich creamy lobster flavor. However the spoon they add is not worth anyones time it is a hard bread like spoon with no flavor and can break a tooth even after soaking in the soup. ... Bread and MARGARINE served at the table I was raised on real butter and was really disappointed to have fake whipped oil served to use. The server never spoke except to take our order. Dad had lobster pasta and said soup better then pasta. Mom had Shrimp DIJORNE she enjoyed. I had the appetizer scallops. Wouldnt recommend. The sauce was cold the scallops however were fresh and cooked nice however lacking seasoning. (Salt) The flavor was not there. I do waht to add I ordered a side of asparagus. I had the Tomahawk Bone in Ribeye steak, a baked potato and broccoli with cheese sauce. The meal was cooked perfectly and I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good Ribeye. The casino is ok but the restaurant is a very nice find in Elgin! read more

After eating at the GVC buffet, you may wonder if you want to risk spending bigger dollars at Buckingham's Steakhouse. GVC buffet is terrible (although I'm told they are making big changes)! Do not let the terrible buffet stop you from giving Buckingham's a try. This restaurant offers a selection of steak, seafood and more. Their filet mignon is tender and almost always cooked just right. I have also had the lobster tails which by the way this is NO Red Lobster (the tails here have plenty of meat and are cooked to perfection). The sides offered are good and salad is always fresh. Since this is located on the casino property attire seems to be flexible; some people dress up while others wear jeans/t-shirts so it's pretty comfortable. I say it's worth a try. read more
