We had so much fun at Bold Rock. We came on a Saturday afternoon after a hike and enjoyed a fall day sitting outside. Most of our group ordered the burger and loved it! I got the chicken sandwich and it was also great. They have a wide variety of ciders (perfect if you normally don't love a super sweet cider). They have some classic sweet, dry, and spunkier ones. This was a fun place so glad we found it! There is a large area inside whee tou can sit, but outside has tons of seating both picnic tables in the expansive yard and chairs and tables on the covered deck. Husband tried the Carolina apple ( green apples), and I tried the flight because I could not decide ( blackberry, pear, pineapple, and coffee) Bartenders are super helpful with helping decide as there is a lot to pick from. They do have food options. There is a food truck buy you order inside where you get the drinks. They text you when your food is ready, head to the truck and pick up. We stumbled upon Bold Rock Mills River Cidery for their 12 year birthday! Our group had enough time to look at the menu for food and we were able to order our food and drinks within the main taproom. I ordered the Steakhouse burger with fries, and had a Berry Peach cider. The staff was amazingly helpful in their recommendations with ciders, and draft beers. We sat in the mezzanine at a long table with a table of 6. The food truck took now time to cook our food and we were pleasantly surprised with the amazingly hot fries, seasoned with black pepper and salt. My steakhouse burger had caramelized onions, seasoned hand burger patties, on a sesame bun and it could easily have been a delicious meal full of flavor, or it was post tubing. Super clean taproom and although the rainstorms came down on the live music to celebrate the birthday, those folks who were outside during the outdoor seating to enjoy the sounds. I haven't been to this location in years! I think it had only been open for a year or so when I was here last. The patio/outside area has definitely expanded and grown. It was nice to see those changes. The inside pretty much has remained the same, but that is fine too. We had a few drinks in the outside (pet friendly) area and had the pimento cheese appetizer. Great little stop if you are near the airport and are looking for some refreshments after a long flight. The cider is well done and they have quite the variety. You won't be disappointed. read more

My friend and I came on a Saturday night and we were pleasantly surprised with the crowd and live music! We found a picnic table outside to accommodate the puppy and went inside to the bar to order our food and drinks. My food took some time, probably around 30-40 min. My friend's burger only took about 15 min. I wasn't too impressed with the fried chicken sandwich because the chicken was a little too crispy and the meat was a little dry. I also wish I could taste the condiments more so the flavors would be a little more balanced. As the night went on, a lot of people went out onto the dance floor, including young children. We decided to come back to Bold Rock as they had some new spring flavors we wanted to try. It is definitely a lot crazier and more hectic when the weather is nice compared to the late fall. That is definitely a great thing for Bold Rock, but I prefer a more relaxed setting that we had previously or have had at other Cideries/Wineries in NC. We got two cider flights which consisted of: Apple - like the last time, this was our favorite of the day. A good apple cider. Pineapple - It's okay, like I stated before, we have had better pineapple ciders. Blackberry - another okay cider, but we have had better blackberry ciders. Pear - did not like at all. Berry Peach - I was most excited for this one, but it is also just okay. Really only got blueberry, hard to tell if there was any peach flavor at all. Imperial - this one was good, but of the apple flavors, preferred just the apple cider better. Imperial Berry - This one was okay too, and we both liked it better than the blackberry. Strawberry Lime - another one I was excited for, but there was hardly any flavor. For the most part, their flavors are not very strong. While we thought they were fine while we were there to enjoy the cider flights, none of them really stood out to us to make us want to buy some to take home. Hands down the best cidery I have ever been to (I just I lived closer so I could come back here!). So many delicious ciders. I did the build your own flight, and there was not a bad one in the bunch. Loved the blackberry and the pineapple. They also have food options - order with your cider and then they call you out to the food truck outside. Food was good, not the best - which is expected because this place is all about the cider. Plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. They have picnic-style benches outside, and the weather was nice while we were there so it was very enjoyable to sit outside with friends and enjoy good cider. We came in the afternoon so it wasn't too busy, but I heard that it's super popular and can get pretty busy. I expected it to be fairly busy since the Asheville are attracts many tourists during October for the leave changes, but I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of seating and short wait for food and drinks. We were lured in with the advertised (new menu), and decided to go for dinner yesterday, ordered bunch of stuff, rounded up to over $120 for 2 adults and two kids (pretty pricy for bar food), every single thing except for the cider was bad, the salads were wilted and made with old ingredients, the burger wasn't edible, cheap beef! the chicken nachos which is a fav of ours from the downtown location was awful, the hummus had the wrong texture and taste and the pita was greasy and doughy, the pretzel which is usually the fresh twisted type... a solid choice, not yesterday, we were served 3 pretzel sticks from a frozen package, the only saving grace is the cider and the outdoor space, the kids got to play, but didn't eat. Bold Rock was the definite highlight of my recent trip to Asheville. Everything about this cidery was wonderful. As soon as you step in the door this tasting room has a great cabin-like, outdoorsy ambiance. Bold Rock a wide variety of flavors on tap to choose from, and as expected every one I tried was delicious. What was unexpected was how incredible the food from their on-site food truck would be. First time, but I'm in love! Anyone that can make an apple taste like champagne is my instant BEST friend!! I tasted the Prosecco, Vat 1, Blackberry....I had Roast (a coffee infused cider), blackberry, blueberry and ginger turmeric amongst others at their in-town Asheville location....seriously, each was better than the previous one! We visited this location to refill our growler on the way out of town and found a great deal on the seasonal Watermelon flavored cider ($5 for a six pack or 20 for a case). Of course, I bought a case of Watermelon AND refilled my growler this time with Prosecco. This location has a portion of the warehouse converted to a bar, seating and retail space, with the production area visible from upstairs and behind the lower level bar. They have 14 ciders and 10 beers on draft....something for every taste! The bartender allowed me to taste several and offered good suggestions. Don't think cider when coming here, it's waaaaaaaaayyyyyy more than traditional cider!! Don't leave the area with out a bottle, can, growler or case of their cider libation! Drove out here yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Huge venue with parking. A little out of the way but for a great space. We came for the flannel and flapjack event. Cute idea but we were wondering when things happen such as the costume contest. It all seem to be more of a come whenever you want. There was a chainsaw artist, but it was so rainy and windy. Nobody was really watching him. Not to the fault of the location. No one can predict western North Carolina weather. Waited in line to order. It was a little bit long and confusing. The people behind us asked if the line was for everything. We later confirmed it was. Might be helpful to have a drink, wine and a food line. I got the flannel cider after they really nice worker let me try it. We also got a blackberry wine which was a bit too sweet for me for the person I was with loved it. Because it was a special event they had special menu items. We got the Apple pancakes sausages and an apple donut. The Apple doughnut was handed to us immediately, and it was delicious. Warm and cake like. We waited about 35 minutes for the pancake and sausage. When we noticed a ton of people behind us getting theirs, I went out to the food truck. They were supposed to text but they didn't and it turned out ours had been ready. The pancakes were very cold and hard and the worker seemed really confused about where to get the syrup, but I found it on a nearby table. For $9 pancakes it seemed a little steep. The "apples" were just like three Apple pieces in a tiny cup. Besides the food, the drinks were delicious, and the brewery/cidery itself was incredible. Great place to bring a game and play. Ciders are still 100% on point to be delicious and a guaranteed refreshing treat with seasonal options;the good old apple choices were available and inventory was very low. Still love the apple cider draft the best. My issue is with customer service. No welcome upon our entry or upon approach of the bar and it was a slow Saturday afternoon. Then the crazy bottoms out dangerous 6 pack blow out occurred and never was an apology offered to the older lady and we watched stunned as the whole 6 pack hit the ground and in seconds the next 6 pack fell out and exploded with the same 360 degree velocity. I asked when paying and she said a leaky bottle got the bottoms wet, she then told me the lady just looked at me like what happened. Well, yeah. We even got a sliver of glass at our table. Puppy paws beware!!! The lady was horrified and an immediate inquiry on her being okay was omitted by the staff and a quick next round is on us should have been offered up. Next is the food truck, we got limp cold fries and if we are ordering from a truck and wait 20 minutes that is not my expectation and assume my fried fish threw them for a time loop. WOW! I thought the location in downtown was nice, but this is my favorite Bold Rock. Great cider, really good food (potentially better than downtown imo) and the location is amazing. Everyone who worked there was very nice and helpful as well. They have a ton of gluten free options (ciders of course) and they also had beer on tap. I got the Pearidise which is my favorite cider. I also got a bottle of Vat 1 and it's delicious! For food I got the nachos which I though were a bit pricey for the amount you got (especially since you get more at the restaurant downtown for the same price). Bold Rock is sooo close to MRB. The food here extremely good too! The atmosphere is great for any occasion. It is very family friendly. The dining room is a adequate size - but don't be fooled... it just keeps going. There is outdoor covered seating that is heated in the colder months. During the warmer months you can grab a picnic table, Adirondack, etc.. or play some corn hole. Every time we have left here we leave impressed! read more
