Eager to get on the road and make the most of the beaming California sun this Monday, we forgo a Safeway picnic stock-up trip and decided to just stop into Bolinas People's Store instead. Epic decision. We bought juicy kumquats, a pear, a tangerine, a small tub of fresh hummus, gluten-free tortillas, and a wondrous bag of heavenly granola. The total for all said purchases, wasn't bad at all, considering we both were full in a matter of minutes. Scooping lightly sweetened dreamy granola into our mouths, in between spooning hummus onto amazing light tortillas was the perfect meal. Our feet dangling above large rocks, grazed lightly by the lapping Bolinas water - was a sensational start to the adventure filled day. Trust. read more

I really like the staff and what is offered at the Peoples Store. Most mornings before work it is a happy ritual for me to by a coffee and pastry here as both are always fresh and delicious! They also have a great and wide variety of fruit and vegetables, GMO free foods and health conscience items overall. I also enjoy the fun rapport I have with everyone in there which makes the start of the day that much better. Wonderful! read more

Honestly, this place is a disgrace. I grew up coming to bolinas and Stinson with my family almost every weekend. Today I went to the dentist and stopped by this place to get snacks and some cash back before buying some more stuff. I was heckled by the "gang" of transients hanging out in front that no doubt see it as "their" turf and me -an obvious outsider(go figure since I was born in berkeley and am way more local than they'll ever be). What a joke, get a life. Go do something productive. To the indifferent lady working in the store receiving a massage and then handling me like I'm an intrusion, you're no different than walmart. Market cornered, and 100% sound judgments 100% of the time, You can do or say whatever you want. I hope you receive the same treatment when you travel. read more

One of two (real) options for food and supplies in Bolinas. The prices are pretty high (similar to, if not above those at Whole Foods) and I was a bit shocked at the $50 bill for some basic vegetables, milk, and a few frozen dinners. The market a few doors down has a much wider selection and generally lower prices, though if you want organic/gluten-free/vegan options, than the People's Store is a better option. read more

They don't sell people, despite the name (unless the fabulous Bovine Bakery is a front for Soylent Green). BPS is everything a market should be, and then some. They have a fine selection of organic produce, baked goods, spices and cooking essentials, etc. The fine people who work here are friendly, laid back, and encourage reuse of old shopping bags. Recently, I picked up three things here that made a beach outing into pure bliss...this is but a random sampling of what BPS has to offer: 1. The freshest tangerines on Earth! These babies are the sweetest and juiciest. 2. Reed's Ginger Ale & Ginger Beer--A carbonated ginger delight strong enough to make your eyes water. 3. For the sweet tooth, a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie from Bovine Bakery. A final note: Like Bolinas itself, Bolinas People's Store can be tricky to find. It is located behind the community center, at the end of a driveway off Wharf Road. read more

I thought I was pretty well versed in all things that are Bolinas. I know the history of Smiley's. I stayed in the hotel behind Smiley's, for fuck's sake! I know the ins and outs of the Coast Cafe. I know to hide my foreign automobile if I want street cred with the locals. I know that it's chocolate that the woman with the newspapers on her head puts on her cheeks (but for the life of me, I still can't figure out why). I know that you are missing out if you don't pick up the local paper, "The Bolinas Hearsay News". I know not to put my dog on a leash, so I blend in with the locals. I even have a killer necklace bought from the traveling gallery that comes to town for a few weeks before Christmas every year. So why didn't I know about the People's Store? Great little grocery store. Good produce, nice sandwiches, yummy cookies, and other snacks for the beach. Better stuff than at the big general store next to Smiley's. And the Santa Cruz Organic lemon lime soda to wash down the crackers and aubergine dip gives you the perfect amount to energy to spend the day swimming with your dog on one of the few days that the water is warm enough for you to brave 10 minutes in there sans wetsuit. read more

The best thing I can say about the Bolinas People's Store is that it compares favourably with the Davis Food Co-op. For those of you not lucky enough to be acquainted with either, think 'Whole Foods', but real. An actual focus on local products, locally owned, and with real input from the shoppers. Maybe even a sense of community built up around it. The most remarkable thing about both is that they are both fully stocked grocery stores; places where it is completely possible to fulfil all of your shopping needs. It's pretty awesome. read more

It's not the only show in town...you CAN go down the street and get all the little evil delights you desire (sodas, fats, sugars and the name brands). But if you're interested in NOT driving to Pt. Reyes or MV and want to stock up (well, medium-stock-up) and a few essentials, you can last for a week or so just shopping at BPS. Prices are very fair. It's pretty clean. They've got a decent variety. Hey, you won't starve! The staff is inconsistently friendly. For some reason, they still think Bolinas is a hip, counter culture enclave like in the 70's. It's not. Don't pretend! It's getting more chi-chi and hipster out here. I, for the record, do NOT live here. But I visit family and, over the past 25 years, have watched BPS grow into a very, very nice business. They "get" what it is they are supposed to do: no message, just good stock. Thanks BPS for keeping it real. Oh. And the parking lot. Pull in and park diagonal. Gotta back out. Can't pull forward and turn around. Watch out for school kids on weekdays. They come in for after school snacks and may not be careful for cars backing out onto the main road! read more

I grew up in Bolinas but now am in the city or what we call 'over the hill' shopping at Bolinas is hard. It is a lovely family owned business and their sandwiches have always been to die for, no matter if it is a new person making them or not. Sometimes they don't have things that I like but overall it is a wonderful store that I am grateful to have in town. read more

I stumbled upon the Bolinas People's Store while filming a documentary about one of the locals here. Although I do not live in Bolinas, I realized that the Bolinas People's Store was great and full of just about everything. The Bolinas People's Store is a great addition to the town of Bolinas, and really does mirror the feel and experience the town of Bolinas holds. The Bolinas People's Store is full of fresh fruits, vegetables, and they also carry fresh, warm Chai Tea everyday. The staff here was really friendly towards me, and I absolutely enjoyed the Almond Corner, and Hummus Wrap that they sell. The Bolinas People's store also carries a lot of GMO free foods, and health conscience items overall. Outside of the store, they have some tables you can enjoy your food in the fresh air. Right next to the People's Store, there is a Free Box, full of free goodies such as clothes, and various furniture you are welcome to take. Although the Bolinas People's Store is generally made as/for the locals grocery store, I really enjoy it as a visitor, and if I was to ever visit Bolinas again, I will be back. read more

Stopped by in the morning before heading to Point Reyes to hike to pick up some snacks. The store is small but stocked with fresh produce, snacks, as well as some household items. They take credit cards for purchases over $5. We tried the homemade fig newtons and the cranberry trail mix and seeds, both of which were excellent. I actually am not a fan of the store bought type fig newtons because they taste so processed and overly sweet, but these fig newtons were hearty and the fig filling actually tasted like fresh figs. The trail mix was excellent because it didn't have any added sugar and was filled with lots of different kinds of seeds. Both were perfect trail snacks that didn't leave us feeling like we had eaten a handful of sugar. I'd be back! read more

What a dream of a little heath store the People's Store in Bolinas is. The store is just a few footsteps back behind the main street of Bolinas. The store is small, but don't judge. They've got a lot under one roof. And it's all good. There is a great election of pretty much everything here. Everything is healthy and delicious looking, from the freshly baked goods, to the dried fruits, nuts, and granola, to the frozen goods. This store has more of the Amy's product than anywhere I have ever seen! They had a whole freezer of only Amy's product with so many I had never even seen before. Heaven! Yes, prices are steep. But it's a small, independent health store in the adorable granola town of Bolinas. So what do you expect? read more

This is not your typical small-town grocer, so if you're looking for twinkies and soda, don't bother stopping. But, if your tastebuds want some locally sourced, mostly organic snacks, this is your place. Annnnnnd, their self-serve chai tea is AWE-SO-ME. I stop in just for a cup of that steaming goodness after almost every Bolinas surf session. The Bolinas People's Store is an excellent source of seasonally available, locally sourced foods. To keep the cornucopia brimming, organic foods from other regions are also available. There is a great selection of ready to eat foods both gourmet and natural. Locally baked treats and breads are delivered regularly. While the store's footprint is fairly small, the store is well stocked with all that you need and some extras you wont. The little town of Bolinas and its citizenry would be lost without this gem of a store. read more

A Bolinas staple. Been here for years. Perfect groceries, sundries and ready-made foods store. Coffee and Fresh Chai on tap here, daily. A front yard area features little tables and seating wherein to relax and read a book you pulled from the free bin. Local foods such as Cowgirl Creamery cheeses, organic local veggies (duh), Marshall Farm's honeys, etcetera. The baked goodies section is a sure-win for you stop-in visitors. I suggest parking the car out on the street, unless you walked/rode your bike in the narrow drive to visit. Remember, per the hand-painted wood sign: Speed Not. read more

If you are from out of town, and you feel like you must, go to the Coast Cafe. (Ok, I'll admit it. I *wanted* to go to the Coast Cafe, as I hear it's the best eats in town ... but my S.O. would have none of it.) If you want to chill like a local, go to the People's store behind the community center. Buy some bread, cheese, organic produce, organic all-natural facial lotion, and some of the YUMMY Thanksgiving coffee. It will save you some $ over Coast Cafe for sure, but this place is no great bargain either -- think tiny compact local earthy Whole Foods. [I'm sure this will make them cringe, and I'm sorry.] Sit at one ot the tables outside, pet the dogs, pick some fresh pears from the tree providing shade for your lunch, and don't forget to swing through the Clothing Exchange on your way out. read more

Always a friendly, neighborly place to stock up on groceries. Fresh bread is delivered from the different local bakeries every week--Brickmaiden, Parkside, etc--there is a chart that tells which bakery delivers which day of the week. The chai and hand pies and soups are my go-tos for a snack. read more

I have to give BPS five stars: they have *everything* including uber fresh produce, organic meats, dairy, and coffee beans; they have homeopathic remedies, great selection of beers, breads, pastries, olive oils, spices, lotions, potions, tonics. How they get it all from over the hill is a mystery; they're simply always amazingly well-stocked. Plus shopping here is a delight; BPS is charming, pretty, colorful, and cozy, with a tiny-yet-spacious-feeling layout. Yes, it's a small commmitment to drive here from my home-away-from-home in Stinson; yes, you have to know where to turn sans highway signage; yes, it's pricey (especially the fuel, but hey, you can't get gas in Stinson; I think the gas pumps belong to BPS..). Still they just never fail to deliver, all with smiles, and a warm, friendly community feeling. Oh, and the sight and smell of the Eucalyptus trees that line the road coming into town is to die for (I know they're not indiginous, but they're divine). read more

This store started out as a "Co-op" in 1976. The cashiers: some nice, some not always. High turn-over of staff; who are mostly just trying to make a living, to maintain in this expensive community. The foods are great; beauty & vitamin supplement selection really good. Non-gmo; organics; they have the market on this supply for Bolinas. Good people work hard to help their customers. what a wonderful little grocery store! beautiful fresh & local produce, really nice employees, & super-yummy dessert offerings- lots of delicious cookies, cupcakes, & assorted treats. my favorite cookies are the 'anzacs', the 'double chocolate' cookies, & the pumpkin chocolate chip cake...amazing to find such fine bakery products in such a small out-of-the-way store, but I guess there are local residents who do appreciate it, thank goodness! read more
