How did I not discover this before? My dog was at the vets', I had an hour and needed to do all of our Thanksgiving shopping--on the afternoon before Thanksgiving. Mission accomplished! What great, friendly, helpful service. Okay, we had a huge turkey. But everything else was exactly what I needed. Perfect apples for my pie, organic and crisp. Mushrooms, sausage, sourdough bread for the stuffing, herbs. Amazing green beans. On and on. Wide aisles, clean, easy parking. I got everything i needed, plus a few treats and was out in under an hour. It has since become my go to market. Oh, the people who shop here are so nice! That is an added bonus. read more

Small town grocery store. It's actually big, not like 7-11 size. Anytime I camp or travel through small towns, I always go out of my way to shop at one for my meals during my stays, even if said small town has a Safeway or other chain grocery. I've probably been here like 3-4 times, getting just enough stuff for a day or 2. Even though not brimming with products, I always seem to find what I came in for. Not a lot of employees on my outs, but everything is clean and well represented. I find their meat case to be my main draw. Not a huge selection but I can always find a nice buy. Most recently I found some primo Hanger Steaks, which I rarely see at my local markets. I love that cut and they had some nice big ones, already trimmed and butterflied. It is in my top 3 for cuts of steaks, so I had some really nice meals for my trip. Also been able to find simple things from their produce section, cheese section and beer section. Like how the place isn't bombarded by national junk food brands like Lay's/Coke/Budweiser, where places like Safeway will have displays up front and center. Fairfax Market is not the least expensive place to buy groceries, but if you're looking for great service and products, they're the best. The staff is always available, friendly and helpful. We wanted an item they didn't stock. I asked one of the managers who said they'd check and see if they could order it. They ordered it and called me to let me know when it would be available in the store for me to purchase it. If you have a question they will dig until they find the answer, even if they need to call a manager who is not currently in the store. They have products that no one else in the area carries (e.g. Quron veggie meats, large selection of healthy cereals, most of their bread is fresh not thawed). read more

Fairfax is slightly remote, so you figure that you'll need to drive for a few miles to get more than the bare necessities (or a drink - how many bars *are* there on Broadway?). Including food. That grocery store doesn't look like much. But when you go into "that grocery store", aka Fairfax Market, you see that it's not a beat-up run-down overpriced store. It has a good selection at Safeway-level prices. Spacious and clean. Produce looks fresh. Family-owned. Not a lot of extras, but Fairfax residents don't have the same tastes as Mill Valley residents, nor do they want to. The workers are pleasant but not overly friendly, in contrast to Mill Valley Market - maybe they figured out that I'm a Dittohead? Well, let's see if they have a deli. Surprise: they do! Basic sandwiches, also a build-your-own option, priced lower than a standalone sammy shop. I had just finished 6 miles on White Hill, and the ham & cheese, salt & vinegar potato chips, and RC for under $10 was just what I wanted. You can eat there if you want. If you live in Fairfax or San Anselmo, or points beyond (Woodacre? Lagunitas? Bolinas???), Fairfax Market should work well for feeding your family. Especially if you don't have little voices in your head nudging you toward the exotic stuff. read more

This is a gem of a store! Not as fancy as Good Earth but it does carry some unique products that Good Earth doesn't and the fresh produce won't break the bank at this store like it can at Good Earth. I discovered some amazing green teas, local honey, and an orange-turmeric-black pepper-apple-lemon-aloe drink here (the local brand is called "Pressed Juicery"). All are immunity boosters and necessary at any time, but especially during COVID-19. The green tea brands were Stash (from Portland, OR) and Numi (from here in the SFBA). I love all the West Coast tea. So good! Whoever thought of putting spices like cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom in green tea instead of in black tea? Loved the spicy flavors with lots of sweet honey and a splash of the orange drink. A nice combination of spicy, sweet, and slightly tart. Toasted rice with green tea gives it a nice earthy, nutty flavor. I didn't feel the need to add anything. Jasmine green tea has some floral notes to it and goes well with the local honey. So amazing! See picture. One tip for management: please stock the Yogi Tulsi Berry Immune Support tulsi elderberry tea. I hate going to another store to find it. All reviews on rude employees is true! We arrived around 11pm to grab some groceries for our airbnb. Convenient location but expensive prices. Go somewhere else. Strange that we didn't see any cashiers. We noticed a call button to ring for the cashier. Pressed it a few times but didn't hear a sound. Finally, a cashier approaches us very rudely and asks if we rang her? Duh??? She then proceeds to show us how the call button works and rings herself...(unbelievable) then, literally snatches our items as if she's in a hurry and we are intruding her time, or whatever is more important cause it sure isn't her JOB! I'm amazed employees like this still have their jobs. Owner/store manager needs to open their eyes...it's not a joke. Go to a store that appreciates your business. Not here. read more

What can I say --- I love Fairfax Market! The store is never too crowded, and if I'm in a pinch for dinner, they have a small hot bar and refrigerated foods for me to choose from. On my morning commute, if I haven't had breakfast, I stop in for a sausage jalapeño breakfast burrito. Yum!! Fairfax Market also carries my favorite toilet paper for $1.99 per 4-pack -- Natural Value. I can find other things in stock that I eat regularly, like mung bean sprouts and fresh basil, which aren't always easy to find at other grocery stores. Friendly staff, and the checkers are willing to engage in a conversation with customers whether they're familiar with one another or not. On Tuesday, March 22, I purchased 3 sandwiches at the deli. While I realize that masks are now optional, I was totally TURNED OFF when the 3 staff of the deli made the sandwiches, all with their masks AROUND THEIR NECKS instead of their faces. Why even bother to wear them around the neck if they aren't wearing them when they are preparing food?? I noticed that checkers were wearing masks. Being new to the area I stopped to shop at this large grocery store. There's a large accommodating parking lot so parking isn't an issue. Upon entering I was immediately welcomed by a large sign that read "ALL SALES FINAL!" . Lovely. Translating in my head to "PROCEED WITH CAUTION/SHOP AT YOUR OWN RISK" I continued into the store thinking "Clearly, this is an establishment that doesn't back its products". Even at Grocery Outlet (at a hugely different price point) they back their products. There are ample signage throughout the store with large bright red lettering announcing their "sales". So much so I became blind to them because they were suspiciously everywhere. There are a lot of choices here in every department. I've been here now three times and each time the cashiers were friendly. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's a sense of disorganization and haphazard placement of product. The cbd display looks out of place hanging out at the registers. When I shop at stores of this price point they are most often laid out well, welcoming, high energy, There's generally a juice bar, hot bar, frothy cappuccinos etc. You know you're paying more but you leave with a sense of being pampered. Most expensive beer I've ever seen but strangely wine is cheap. Deli beware - old product, low inventory. Employees are nice but clientele is to put it mildly, questionable. One guy with long stringy hair smelly & a huge belly rubbed himself against me near thee broccoli. I put the fear of god in him within the same moment of offense. Place is creepy. I thought it was my imagination that the vibe there was just...weird. It's almost comical, the whole "don't give" act of the cashiers-- almost like you've walked on a Seinfeld set from the 80s and the Soup Nazi opened a market, LOL Didn't really bother me before, kind of entertaining, until tonight when I went to buy a few things and a bottle of almond milk, for which I had a manufacturer's coupon (sent to me through the mail for a free one) I stood online for a while and waited for the cashier to finish her story to the customer in front of me, of the metal concert she was planning on going to over the holidays, and why she had painted her nails with the band's name, ya da ya dah ya dah... but after 5 minutes or so, I decided to take my 3 items and go to another line. I submit my coupon to the new cashier and he holds it up like it's a counterfeit $100 bill. He doesn't seem to know what to do with it, so he walks over to metal lady, who is BTW the manager I'm guessing, and she shakes her head. He walks back over to me (with folks waiting) "We can't take this coupon, you could've just photocopied this, we only take coupons from the newspaper." Huh? As if I'm running a "Califia Farms Counterfeit Coupon Ring" out of my basement? LOL again, although at the time not so funny, accusing your customers of fraud, and with a $2.00 coupon?? What ridiculousness. Who would do that??? So I replied, "Are you serious?" And apparently he was. My line should've been: "And, cut!" but hindsight of course is 20/20, and funny. I just said, Well, okay then! Goodnight! Left without my stuff, never going back thank you very much! Who OWNS that place and do they CARE about all this bad karma being spread around? I live in Fairfax but I would rather drive to the Trader Joe's in San Rafael or Corte Madera than go to Fairfax Market. What is up with the employees? The employees are so unfriendly and they act like they are doing you a favor by working there. I have Fairfax Market stories for days but I will write about just two of my favorite *sarcasm* experiences at the Fairfax Market. Last Christmas I bought two boxes of firewood. When I got home I realized that I was only charged for one. Back to Fairfax Market I went to explain what happened and to pay for the second box. Well had I known how they were going to treat me I wouldn't have gone back. I went in and explained to the checker that I wasn't charged for the second box of firewood and that I wanted to pay for the second box. The clerk gave me the NASTIEST look and then called her manager who strolled on over. She explained to him in a way that sounded like I wanted to pay for a box of firewood that I stole! Um, no, you forgot to charge me!!! I explained the situation three times and the manager and the clerk just gave me the nastiest look and they kept giving each other the side-eye the whole time. If I stole the box why would I return to pay for it???? Merry f'Christmas to them. I was so pissed that I refused to go back to the Market for six months. I rarely go back now unless I absolutely need something and I don't want to drive to Safeway or TJ's. Today I went back. Ugh. I never seem to learn from my mistakes. As I was standing in line the clerk completely ignored me as she continued her conversation with the next checker over about how overworked they are , and they discussed a potential employee who even though this person would reduce the one clerk's hours they would at least be less overworked. Why are they talking about this in front of customers?? Not once did she acknowledge my existence as I went through the process of checking out. Their customer skills are seriously lacking. If you are so miserable why do you continue to work there? I'm done with Fairfax Market for now. read more

I've been shopping at the various incarnations of this store for many years for convenience, because it is close. Used to be Cala market, which was great. I understand prices are high b/c of real estate and labor costs here in Marin. I don't understand why their organic produce is often considerably more expensive than at the Good Earth nearby, which has a much wider and more attractive selection? Why are so many items less at Safeway just a mile away, offering better variety of products? Their seafood department is really awful and extremely limited :( It is deserted most of the time for good reason. Come on, counters at G.E., Andronico's & Safeway are busy and do well because they carry wide selections and good quality! Sometimes they have some great items, like for example lately amazingly nice frozen Indian Saag Paneer curries, and good Samosas. It's hard to find decent frozen food like this! Then they sell out and don't restock the missing items for weeks, - if at all. I've noticed the "not keeping items in stock issues" with other items we like to buy. It seems management could use some improvement to say the least!! Things get scanned on checkout and they should be able to see what is popular and restock swiftly. After all, it's a business, right? So I had finished a 70 mile ride and parked on a street near this Market (I live in Oakland) and realized when I got to my car that I had lost my car key somewhere on the route! I was distraught, tired, and really, really had to pee. I've been going here for years, and knew they had a no bikes in the store policy so I went to the customer service desk at and explained my situation to the manager and could I use the bathroom, bring the bike w me or could they put it somewhere. He flat out was like "no" and just turned away. Didn't feel aligned w the whole family owned community grocery store-after years of coming here, I'll be reluctant to return. read more

I really really like this place because it feels like family. I've been coming here when it was Bell Market. I like to support them because the market are owned by family and family run. They have organic product just like Whole Foods but I know my money is going to a family business and not a corporation. Many of the people cashier, butcher, managers have been working here for over 10 years. Parking is sometimes limited during peak hours because it is small but I like shopping mid day or late night so it doesn't bother me. I like to grab a burger at McG's when I'm here grocery shopping. read more

The people here are great. I think everyone that works their that I have encountered so far have been nothing but friendly and helpful. The have a nice selection of Organic fruits and veggies. Their deli carries boar head meats, and they always offer a taste! I usually shop at Safeway but am slowly transitioning this store to my first stop. If you watch the ads you can great deals (much more so than Safeway) It seems at times a little pricier and then again so much cheaper. I buy Organic Horizon brand milk and here it has been 2 for $5. At Safeway it is $4.19 per half gallon, almost double!! Today has been my best purchase yet, Sea Scallops for 7.99 a pound.(other stores selling the same for $14lb.) They even had some still frozen so I stocked up. Asparagus was also $.99 a pound. The only downfall is it is very small and if you don't watch the ads and sale prices it could be steep. But the customer service makes it worth while! update: I have changed my initial rating of 4 stars to 5. They are so consistent with their outstanding customer service. I went in to buy Organic Strawberries on sale, $1.99 for a pint. They were out, the guy working offered me 16oz for the sale price to compensate for being out. Really cool people! read more

This is a kickass little grocery store. The meat counter is great, really good quality and some awesome deals. I got prime rib for Christmas dinner for $4.99/lb, and it was super tasty. Also really good produce... They have a lot of good, well-priced organic stuff, and the staff is great. The hell with Safeway, IGA is definitely my preferred stop. Plus, I like to call it "Eee-Ga." SO much more fun to shop when the grocery store name sounds like a caveman word. Wish they'd get a better selection of lower-priced wines tho... read more

This one has the ambience of the old-school, fluorescent-lit supermarket, though they have consistently been trying to carry organic and healthier options than what you'd find at LuckSafeSon's. Please, if you think Good Earth is too expensive or limited in its selection, support this place instead of continuing to clog Center Blvd or Sir Francis Drake on your way to the 2 1/2 supermarkets in San Anselmo. read more

Contextual mixed feelings here. Fairfax is a small town where your only other supermarket option is Good Earth. As someone who works daily in downtown, this makes it a challenge to get something healthy and substantial without spending over a certain limit, so this place helps to accommodate that need. Somewhat. Go here for cheap coffee, donuts, and standard grocery items to pick up on the way home. They also sell Evolution Fresh juice and single containers of yogurt, which I usually get to tie myself over until dinner. I have found some cheap (but decent) wines here too. Do not get the deli items. While they're certainly not the worst, you're just better off buying your pasta salads and sandwiches over at Perry's down the street. read more

Unless you'd like to talk about how bad Trump is, the cashier's have ZERO interest in your existence. Actually your existence seems to bother them. Heaven for bid there's a hiccup during a checkout process. 1st they try & make you feel like it's your fault in front of everyone then they dont even apologize when it's clearly not after all. Don't expect to spend less than $20.. even if it's only for 3 small things but if you even think about getting some actual groceries? Geeeet ready to spend big bucks. It's crazy. Oh, and please dont get any meat or seafood! I made that mistake a couple times... NASTY!! Just plan ahead and take the trip to Trader Joe's. This store has a new name: Fairfax Market -- the locals call it by its old name, Delano's. If you're driving by you may miss it if you're looking for the old name A good neighborhood grocery store with plenty of organic produce, a sushi counter, a full service meat/poultry/fish counter, and a deli. On nice weekends, they put out a barbecue and you can get chicken or ribs hot off the grill on your way to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, Olema, or Samuel P Taylor park. What's more, this place has some real folks here. In the early morning, I have seen men and women on their way to work at the handful of farms and ranches in West Marin stop by to get grub. Though the prices here are higher than at Safeway, the prices are slightly lower than Good Earth, which is the other high-profile organic grocery in Fairfax. I hope the hype, hoopla and slightly hysterical enthusiasm for the one doesn't force Delano's IGA to close! We need a genuine neighborhood grocery -- Fairfax has worked hard to keep the big stores from destroying its downtown, and Delano's is a key store that attracts a lot of people day and night. They keep generally long hours -- 6 am to 11 pm, if I recall (as of this writing anyway). Those hours were a great help when I had little kids and needed to buy something in an emergency. Lots of parking, without the insanity of soccer moms bashing around in their SUVs trying to get the one spot next to the front door, as you get in some other places. read more

Produce is so so. Price are always on the steep side and I hardly ever see anything useful on sale. Their deli counter seems like the forgotten step-sister. No place I would order a sandwich from. I have to say I have shopped at Good Earth Store for over 10 years now and because one of their employees named Jason sexually harassed me and has used his position at Good Earth to cause me trouble because I would not conceded to his advances, I decided to shop at a different store. And so Fairfax Market; being close by to my office and having some lovely employees who had bent over backwards to help me to get the foods I tend to buy, I have made it my place to shop now. In fact here are a few of the wonderful things they have done for me: Joe who works as a Produce Clerk even went out of his way to find me the wild rice I usually buy at Good Earth Store by thoroughly researching what brand and if they could actually carry it by making room in one of the bulk biins for it. He has also said that if I give a list to the Manager Matty, that they would do their best to special order the foods I so love, like Raw, Organic, Locally Made Foods such as Kale Chips, Power Wraps, and Raw Almond Butters. They have been very friendly and kind in finding what I need and making sure that items are stocked. Also they have great hours, open late at night! Shopping at this store has given me great hope in there being a competitive store that will put a check on Good Earth Store and their arrogance. They are even getting Sunfoods Brand soon! If you want to support the underdog and help Community Markets, as well as help them revamp their image, this is the Store for you. Nothing like a good healthy competition to make sure that we still get the best values for our money. Right now my favorite pears (Bosc) are on sale for only $1.69 a LB! And the Organic Produce is off the hook 'fresh' and a better price than Good Earth. This Market is now being able to buy produce at a lower price and they will sell for about a dollar less than Good Earth. So do not be afraid to try a new alternative to the robust priciey prices at Good Earth Store, and show them that the locals want lower prices. It is really only a traitor who outsources local jobs and local food sources for the interest of profit. Plus, I got word from the inside that Good Earth Store does have some GMO items and Mark ahd to take a bunch of GMO's off the shelves with a loss in profit last year. And that may ahve been why Prop 37 didn't pass. I am glad at Fairfax Market they are really working hard to find ways to bring more customers and so bringing in a lot of good foods that are replacing the old. I enjoy the small town vibe and the lack of pretense in those who shop at Fairfax Market, and those hwo work there too. it is amazing how the hippie food movement used to have the lowest prices in the land and now these same food are way above actual cost. By now we should realize that being local is of a benefit to all. I look forward to what Fairfax Market, a Family Owned Market, will be bringing forth in the days, months and years to come. read more

Worst customer service ever. Been going here for a year and spending around $150 a week. Today, Cashier walked away from booth as I was walking up. I had all items put on counter before she even came back around and taking her time. As she was ringing up my items, I noticed some items that were not mine in the checkout. I asked what they were and she rudely said coffee and just stared at me. I said they were not mine and she became upset and just glared at me and said something snobby. "your not being charged for it" I believe is what she said. I stated again that I was "just asking" about why items were in my checkout and she just stared at me. She then said "just drop it". Continuing to glare at me, I had to ask her why she was doing that. She denied it of course. If she is an owner, that is sad. If she is a cashier, she should be written up. Everyone else there is always so nice and helpful. Guess she is having a bad day. I am done giving my money to them. read more

To add insult to injury, the parking lot design is just an invitation to getting bashed or run over. BUT, the staff here are very nice. I'm gonna give it 5 stars bc this was one of my Covid goto markets. I hated standing in line & going thru the fear rituals of other grocery stores, so I would come here for produce & a few other items & go to the real discount stores for the items that are off the hook here. I don't know of a better place for fresh produce - they have the same vendor as Good Earth and if some items are expensive they have really, really good deals on at least one veggie & one fruit & comparable on many others. Also, they have day old type specials that I have taken full advantage of. The checkers are very present, which is my highest compliment. I can banter with them enough, while they professionally move the transaction along. I think the reviews with rude employees must have been dealt with since 2018 bc it's been a pleasant experience for a while. Try it. This is one of the two grocery stores in Fairfax and is more convenient to visit than to go to Safeway in San Anselmo. After one too many bad experiences at this grocery store I will drive to San Anselmo just to avoid Fairfax market. Some experiences include: -purchasing cheese that had expired one month before -having a cashier text while there were people in line -the same cashier eating while working at the cash rap -the same cashier making customers wait while she and a coworker discussed a new iced tea -(clearly there is a problem with cashiers at this grocery store) the cashier from the previous three encounters gave a dog a dog biscuit while working at the cash rap (the fact that a dog that was not a service dog was in the grocery store is a whole other issue) -purchasing stamps and the cashier told me that the person who can give the stamps out was on lunch and I'd have to wait a few minutes. After waiting about 5 minutes he paged the man who responded on the PA system then the cashier yelled at him across the store and the man yelled back. It took 15 minutes to just purchase a book of stamps. read more

I grew up in fairfax. My family still lives here but I no longer do. I am absolutely appalled by this market now. I went in there yesterday and every employee I interacted with was not helpful, rude and acted like they had better things to do. I'm a chef and know food, I asked a man working in the butcher department about their choices of the cuts of meat they had rib eye etc. I then inquired about the lean verse reg cuts, the lean was a better cut but it was lean, instead of just letting me know about possible better cuts of meat in the back he made a very snide remark about the FDA's scale of fat percentage( I was tempted to let him know profession). The cashier didn't say hello or anything to me, she just checked my groceries and bagged everything really really slowly, she did not do this to the other customers that were ahead of me. I remember this grocery store through out the years, the different owners , the name changes , the renovations. This is by far the worst!!! read more
