They cleared a table for us, were super attentive, and the drinks were really good. I've eaten at Bollywood Bistro at least 15 times over the years. It's our go-to for Ballston Quarter and the food is consistently well-flavored and a decent portion size. Service is friendly and fast, and the ambiance is casual with ample seating nearby. The reason I detracted a star is that it was already overpriced before and now it's gotten even worse. You're paying a sit-down restaurant's cost for their single serving of a chicken tikka masala and rice in my opinion. And everything was quite affordable. We spent about $70 after tip with appetizers, wine, and two main course dishes - which is pretty incredible in NOVA. We seldom go out to eat for less than $100. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the rest of the fare. I absolutely adore Indian food. I love how rich an savory and spicy it is. But my Daal Tadka was none of those things and even tasted a bit burned. I had even asked for extra spicy and it was not even a little bit. My husband was satisfied with his lamb curry, but we waited for our main course for nearly an hour - despite Bikram's attentiveness. Service was top notch tonight! Our server paid attention to the details, such as bringing out straws on a tray, refilling rice bowl for the curry before we asked for it, and double check all orders. I really enjoyed the butter chicken(the one next to the naan). The curry was very flavorful and the meat was well cooked. I have eaten dinner at Bollywood Bistro many times but tonight was a total disappointment. The food lacked flavor from the chat to the butter chicken and even the rice. Basmati rice typically has a lovely smell and flavor. Tonight rice tasted like sin long grain. The naan was floury. The chicken in the butter chicken was tender but the sauce lacked its typical depth of flavor. The paneer kadai was not like I've ever had it before. Our friend said the chicken masala was dry and tasteless I'm not sure if the restaurant is under new ownership or there is a different chef but the four of us were all disappointed in the food. I adore the Great Falls Bollywood Bistro and was excited to see what their Fairfax location had in store! Had a variety of their cocktails, which were amazing, but found their Tandoori platter to be a bit bland. The sear on the meats were delicious, but the spices seemed to be slapped onto the shrimp and chicken to the point where it was a bit overpowering. I came here for dinner with a friend. Neither of us had been before, and I was a bit unsure given some mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I ordered the mango martini and the chicken korma and my friend had the butter chicken. We also got a bread basket to share. The mango martini was delicious! Tasted super fresh and had a good balance of mango and liquor. I loved the chicken korma, too. There was lots of depth to the flavor and it had the perfect amount of spice for me (it was never too much). I did get one weird/tough piece of chicken, but the rest was really tender. A *little* dry, but I didn't mind it. The naan was the perfect vehicle for the korma sauce. I was glad we got the basket because it included a few different variations and all were delicious. I was particularly fond of the rosemary one. It was a bit thinner than naan I've had elsewhere, but I actually really liked it. It was still soft and wasn't dry or overcooked like I've sometimes had. I also felt like the prices were extremely reasonable. While I truly enjoyed the food, the service was the biggest highlight. Everything came out quickly. When we first got there, it was pretty full, but we were still checked in on frequently (though not *too* frequently). And that wasn't just from our server - there were also a couple other individuals (I would guess a manager and maybe another server?) who checked in on us a couple times too. Today we ordered the Kerala fish fry for a starter, mango lassi, chicken kadai, goat masala, garlic naan, and mango kulfi for dessert. Fish fry wasn't bad and a good start to our meal. The mango lassi was amazing and so refreshing, I do wish it was a little colder, it came closer to room temperature. The chicken kadai and goat masala were really good, the portions are big enough that there will be leftovers to take home too. Each curry had a lot of pieces and good flavor. The garlic naan was good too, we ordered one for 2 people which we felt was enough. To finish our meal we got the mango kulfi. The kulfi itself was so good, but the sauce that's at the bottom is ok. We couldn't figure out the flavor but it was very tart. Overall it was a great experience. I didn't think it would come to pass, but this place deserves full honors -- all the stars I can give. I only had one dish -- Goat Masala -- based on the waiter's recommendation; it was truly beyond words. Parking -- I'll talk about this, it was a pain point for me as I'm not local to Fairfax (though I've been many times before). I missed the turn for parking while driving on the main road, and spent close to half-hour trying to backtrack and get to the same turn -- rush-hour traffic didn't help. Long story short, there's free parking in the garage behind this place. If you're ever driving on the main road, and you see any sign that screams "free parking here" -- just don't freeze up and miss that turn; I'll leave it at that. How I ended up coming here -- bit of a funny story, but I'll bite. I was visiting a nearby event, the long drive and traffic was exhausting, and I also hadn't eaten lunch (I guess linner?). After parking, I headed to the Auld Shebeen -- a nearby Irish pub with gracious reviews. Well luck would have it, I came around 6pm, right at the time they were closing up shop. I accosted a greeter, he suggested the Bollywood Bistro as a favorite of theirs. Didn't have high hopes going in, but I was rather hungry and decided to check it out. Walked in, requested dine-in for one person, got a small table near the entrance rather quickly. Waiter -- who was also my greeter -- was nice. He took my order, gave splendid suggestions, and checked in on me afterwards. The ambiance was very good. Laid back, in a dim lit area. The overhead lights are not bright at all. Gives off a more casual, down to earth kinda vibe. I decided I liked it after all. What I had -- going off suggestion for non-vegetarian dishes, I had the Goat Masala, with Garlic Naan for bread. It comes with white rice for free, with green peas dotting the rice. The Masala has to be hands-down the best goat dish I have ever tasted. I honestly think it is one of *the* best Indian dishes I have ever eaten; and I eat homemade Indian food quite often, and have been to my fair share of Indian buffets -- so I know what good food is. The Goat Masala was, for lack of better terms, simply sublime. The spices and aroma, juiciness of underlying meat, the presentation of leaves and ginger, all of it was top-notch. The dish as a whole was flavorful and perfectly executed. I would have it every day if I could -- in an ideal world. The Garlic Naan is a staple bread in any Indian cuisine, and it went hand in hand with this dish. Rich and flavorful, and elevated the taste of the goat curry. Once I was done with the Naan, I switched over to the white rice, and mixed it with curry. There was an abundance of it, and even though I was liberal in its spooning, it was inevitably a too-large portion. I finished maybe two-thirds. I was full, near to overflowing, by the end. Overall, the Goat Masala was in a word, exceptional. Food was really good and filling. Silverware and napkin provided, and glassware well-designed. The ambiance was quiet and light-hearted. Service was good, and people were generous. Only minus point I had was the bill -- definitely on the more high-end side; but well worth it. Highly recommend checking out this spot. Huge bar area and several outdoor tables that i want to try once spring gets here. Started with the assorted pakoras. Crispy outside but soft on the inside eapecially the potatoes. Moved onto the main course. Laal Maas...the red sauce is so deep with a nice spice and earthly flavor. The lamb was very tender. This was an amazing dish.
