My first time ordering from Raaga Tandoor. Based on great reviews, we decided to order from Uber Eats because they had a buy one, get one butter chicken deal. When I picked up my order, I noticed that they only gave one small cup of rice. When I called the restaurant, they said it was in the Uber instructions that one rice comes with the butter chicken, but I thought this meant one rice comes with each butter chicken. Now the dilemma is we don't have anything to eat the other butter chicken with and the restaurant could not spare $1 worth of extra rice to make this order consumable. Now my husband does not have rice for his dinner and we need to share 6 bites of rice for two orders. The person on the phone was unfriendly and abrupt blaming me for not knowing to order extra rice when they had the gall to charge $28 for "each" of these take out containers totaling "$56" for two and be too cheap to include another rice. I know this is just $14 regular price and just marked up so they could offer the "BOGO". Out of principle, I will not order here and would never recommend. They lost a family of customers over maybe $1 worth of rice. read more

The food itself is fantastic! But there is a glitch in the system... if you buy a $45 gift card [worth $50] on the web site, you can only redeem it in the restaurant. You'll get a code via email, but you still have to redeem that code IN the restaurant. I was expecting a electronic gift card. And since the restaurant is geared towards food delivery services and take out, when you redeem the gift card in the restaurant and order there it takes them FOREVER to get you your food. In my case it took more than half and hour from the time I ordered until I got my food; so I had to burn all that time sitting around in the restaurant, while other take out orders and delivery services got their food more quickly. Yesterday, wasn't my first visit, but it was my first time eating in the restaurant. It is a very nice little place for being in a strip mall. It is clean and welcoming. We were greeted and chose to sit near the front of the restaurant. Our waitress was perfection. There is no other way to describe her consistent care. She was never over-bearing but always accessible. She brought over each course perfectly timed. The service alone would be worth another visit. The food. Holy cow, the food. It was delicious! We have been to several Indian restaurants in the area and were never quite satisfied. This restaurant is so good. The Naan alone deserves to be noticed. It was amazing. Everything we ordered was done well. I ordered the Mixed Grill Tandoori. My husband had the lamb vindaloo. It was so good. Disappointing Experience and Poor Customer Service Today (around 2:45 PM), I called Raaga Tandoor to order the lunch special Lamb Rogan Josh and an order of samosas. The restaurant is about 20 minutes from my place, but due to road construction, it took me 28 minutes to get there. I paid at 3:21 PM, left a tip at the counter, and headed home with my food -- everything was sealed in a paper and plastic bag. When I got home, I was hungry and ready to eat, but upon opening the bag, I realized there was no rice included with my order. I immediately called the restaurant to let them know and asked for a refund for the missing item. Instead of offering a refund or sincere apology, I was told to "come back and get the rice." I explained that I live far away and had to return to work, so driving back wasn't practical. Their response was that they would "give me extra rice next time." This isn't the first time I've had an issue here -- just a couple of weeks ago, I found a hair in my food while dining in, though they replaced the dish at that time. I decided to give them another chance, but this second experience clearly shows a lack of attention to detail and professionalism. Forgetting key parts of an order and then refusing a refund is unacceptable, especially when it's part of a pattern. I won't be returning, and I hope management takes customer feedback seriously to improve both food handling and service. read more

Let's start with what went right. The malai kofta was edible and the rice was also edible. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The gravy was grainy and not smooth. Everything else was BAD! The samosas were past the point of cooked well, they were burnt. The inside was good texture but not flavorful at all. The garlic naan was so rotten, it smelled like gasoline. The garlic used was rotten and the naan was lumpy. Completely inedible because of the rotten garlic. I am so surprised that a restaurant serves this low quality of food. With Channa Masala being one of my all time favorite Indian dishes, I loved the fresh chickpeas and hearty masala. It was not salty and packed great flavors through each bite. The naan was an added bonus for us to dip into our masala and pair with our kabob sampler of tandoori chicken, seekh kabob, and pakora. Loved the green chutney with the pakora and found the meats to be just alright. Granted, this was gotten as takeout, so it was a bit dry. Great takeout for a cozy night in! I ordered take out here on Saturday through the yelp app. It was very user friendly and easy. We received our order in a timely manner, with tracking options for the order and delivery. I ordered the Chana Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan bread. Each dish was tasty and savory, with a nice little burn in each bite (if you like spicy). The Chicken Tikka Masala was particularly delicious: tender chicken in a tomato based cream sauce, but I was a little disappointed in the Chana Masala - which, while tasty, was a little lacking in flavor. I routinely make it at home, and was expecting better from the restaurant seeing as I am not of South Asian/Indian descent and only learned how to make it recently. All in all, not a bad dish, just not what I was expecting. The garlic naan was also very tasty. For those who track my reviews over the years, yes, this is a 6 star review. I used to live in Bailey's Crossroads (Va.) in the 90s and was one of the first customers to the Raaga there. My wife and I went all the time and once we moved to Maryland we would use random trips to Virginia as excuses to go back there. To be honest, the Virginia location has dropped off a little and I wonder if the reason is that the chef has moved to Burke and opened this place. Everything that came out of the kitchen on our visit was perrrrrrrrrfect! We started, as always, with the Mixed Platter appetizer. OMG, the vegetable pakora was mind blowing. The chicken and the kebab were also excellent. I went with my personal fave of Reshmi Kebab and it did not disappoint. Tender and yummy. The Mrs. had the Mixed Vegetable Korma and it was so delicious that I ate half of it and I generally keep clear of veggie dishes. If I had two stomachs, I think I would have also ordered the Momo Chicken appetizer and kheer. Alas...I'll just have to go back and try them out when I'm in Burke next (Friday). If you like Hyderabadi or Dum Biryani then this is not the place for it. They serve what is known as assembled Biryani. It's spicy but good. Reminds of the Kimchi fried rice I had in Seoul minus the kimchi and of course I tried it with the boneless lamb. It was served with a raita which thankfully was made properly and went well with the biryani to add creaminess and toned down the heat from the peppers . We enjoyed lunch at Raga Tandoori. Rather than set up a buffet, they offer several lunch platters. I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo while my wife ordered the Butter Chicken. A few friends and I visited Raaga Tandoor after hiking in Fountainhead park. We all love Indian cuisine but none of us had eaten at Raaga Tandoor prior to today, so you can imagine how excited I was when I saw they were voted best carry out in Burke, VA, even though we had planned to dine in. The restaurant was fairly empty and we were seated immediately. The bartender was great! He was attentive, accommodating, and made really great drinks. He was also our server. For appetizers we ordered Samosa Chat, Achari Chicken Tikka, and Lamb Seekh Kebab. Everything was so good and full of flavor. The Samosas were perfectly crispy and the filling was savory and rich with spices, the tamarind and mint sauces were excellent. The lamb kebabs and chicken tikka were super juicy and flavorful. The entrees were served family style and I loved that--there's something special about communal eating with friends. I ordered the lamb curry--again, super tender and flavorful meat. The curry gravy was thick and packed with spices providing a good level of heat. My buddies ordered the the butter chicken and butter salmon, both excellent choices. Each of us enjoyed our stews accompanied by fragrant basmati rice and the basket of bread. The basket of assorted naan was simply divine and I'm so happy it was on the menu. We ordered Grubhub takeout from Raaga Tandoor. We got the Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spicy), Chilli Chicken (medium spicy), naan, mango lassi, and some rice pudding. The chicken tikka masala was very good, it had a nice blend of spice and savory. Chilli Chicken (a South Indian dish) is hard to find, so I was eager to try it. It was spicy (a good spicy) but a little mushy/soggy. I made some paratha to eat with it (wish they offered paratha). The naan were very good fresh, but don't keep well overnight. The mango lassi was also very good, not to heavy and not too sweet. The rice pudding was a bit disappointing; it didn't taste homemade, more like a store bought pudding. Absolutely delightful! I came for lunch and was warmly greeted. The food takes a little time to come out but when the meal arrives you can tell that it is made to order and well worth the wait. If you come during lunch, they do have a lunch menu which includes three different thali options if you dine in (your meal is served to you on a platter in various small plates): chicken, lamb, and vegetarian and you can pick a main protein. In addition to the protein, the meal comes with naan, rice, chana, saag, and gulab jamun. My mom and I split a butter chicken, I would say it's not spicy however my mom is a bit sensitive to spiciness so she thought it was. The portion is ok, it's enough for two people to split and no leftovers. Was it my favorite butter chicken I've gotten? No, but was it good? Yes! My dad got Chicken Korma and he said he'd definitely get it again. We also got the bread basket to try all the different kinds of naan.
