The best Butter Chicken and Tiki Masala ever...and the Punjabi Curry, and the Bhauna and the...okay. you get the point- you can't go wrong. We have never been disappointed, and the service is wonderful! Elish is great! He will make recommendations on what to order or the spice level, and he is never wrong. He is also very accommodating with any restrictions (I am allergic to cilantro and have never had a problem here). Basically- just go. Just go, love it, and make it your regular spot. Well worth it. My friend heard good things about the food at Lassan, and we wanted Indian food, so we drove out to Burke for it. The interior is modern and elegant, with dim, romantic lighting and fancy LED lamps at each table. Our server got our orders pretty quickly and food was out shortly. BUTTER CHICKEN - 22 The sauce was sweeter than I'd prefer, like they added sugar to the tomato sauce. It didn't taste as buttery or savory as I expected, which I can forgive, but the artificial sweetness to it ruined it for me personally. SAAG - 18 +2 for chicken We mistakenly assumed that if we got the chicken, it would include both paneer and chicken. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case which was our fault. From this experience, I now know that saag and paneer is a much better combination and I'm unlikely to divert from it. The chicken was bland, and the spinach base had a slightly unpleasant spinach flavor that I didn't like. Maybe it's because they didn't blanch the spinach after boiling, which explains the astringent taste and green-brown color. LAMB BIRYANI - 24 I think this was okay, but unfortunately I didn't have much of it because there was a lot of cilantro mixed in. I can't comment too much. One of my friends requested hot water, and the server made multiple odd comments towards her request which wasn't appreciated. Ever since I first tried it when I was in college, Indian cuisine is my favorite. Because of that, I've been to a LOT of Indian restaurants over the years, and Lassan is easily in the top 3 for me. The food is always excellent. It has those above-and-beyond touches that let you know that extra care went into it: the meat and naan cooked in the tandoor oven always has just the right amount of brown; the vegetables have just the right amount of caramelization. The sauces are deep and flavorful. The gradation of spiciness is nicely linear -- you won't get surprised when you jump up one level. The plating and presentation is simple and delightful. There is quite a variety of mixed drinks on offer! My absolute favorite is the boozy chai. This one might be one of my favorite drinks of all time; it's very much like an apple cider with just the right kind of alcohol in it. It's warm, rich, deliciously spiced (not spicy, spiced), and it has a wonderful layer of foam on top. Definitely try this. To cap it all off, the service here is always impeccable. Good recommendations, excellent balance of presence and leaving us to our devices. We very much appreciate whenever we get to eat during Sujal's shift, so please pass along our thanks to him as well! I unfortunately did not take any photos as I was so hungry but the lamb chops, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and garlic naan were all so flavorful and tasty. I was finally able to make a visit to this area in Burke. There are a few eateries in this shopping center such as Tour Les Jour, Sakura Grill, Cedar Cafe, ànd Anita's. As you walked in, the restaurant is clean, modern look and atmosphere is comfortable. I ordered 4 items: 1) Samosa Chaat 2) Butter Chicken Pasta 3) Tikka Masala Paneer 4) Garlic Naan. Every single item that arrived to the table was on point and delicious even the fluffy rice. But the highlight of my trip was the samosa chaat ànd garlic naan. First the samosa chaat, this is a must get item. The complexity of this dish had so many components but yet made each bite salivating and amazingly delicious. Inside, this place looks elevated! I like the touch of the dimmable lights on each table. I ordered the chicken biryani and it did not disappoint. I've had biryani where I only got 4 pieces of meat, but this was not the case at Lassan, luckily. The medium spice level was spicer than I expected, so be forewarned! Wow, I'm surprised i haven't reviewed Lassan yet. I have been there a few times since last discovering this place in October. Lassan has some best butter chicken! It's a basic dish but not all places get it right. Lassan definitely does it right! Another favorite here is the Lamb Shahi Korma--it's heavenly, especially if you get it kind of spicy. Lovely hidden gem in the middle of Burke. The menu has so much to choose from that it's hard to decide what to eat! The masala nachos were good but I preferred my friends samosa chaat and the chili chicken momos. The chicken korma was also amazing. And the Punjabi curry. Lassan is an Indian/Nepalese restaurant, located in the Rolling Valley plaza. We had read some high reviews on this place, so we were excited to try them out for dinner. We ordered: +the Butter Chicken - chicken marinated with spices and yogurt, baked in a tandoor oven, and cooked with a tomato-based sauce +the Shahi Korma - choice of roasted chicken or marinated lamb (we opted for the chicken), cooked in a coconut cashew sauce with saffron +garlic naan +aloo naan Unfortunately, everything was SALTY. I do love my salt, but either there was a mistake in terms of the seasoning, or the kitchen staff here are just heavy-handed with this. It was to the point that the items were inedible, as it was super unpleasant. The meats were just okay, but they were somewhat dried out, even in the sauces. The naans were forgettable, as they could have been more fresh and have more flavor; the aloo version was also inedible, as the spiced potato filling was salty. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, and the staff were friendly; note that you may have to repeat yourself several times of your order(s), as there is somewhat of a language barrier. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, but, unfortunately, this was such a negative experience. The Staff adjusted the Volume to fit the quiet atmosphere. Our Server, Sujal, was wonderful, accommodating, very easy to talk to. He made it special! Our Food was excellent. I ordered Chicken Steamed Dumplings for an Appetizer. They were good but bland. Next time i won't have them steamed. As someone born in India, raised on home-cooked South Indian cuisine, and having visited frequently, my standards for Indian food are quite high--especially compared to other cuisines. That said, I was genuinely impressed with the food here. The spice level was well-balanced, and the consistency of the dishes was excellent. Called the restaurant and they said the order was ready. Called GrubHub and they said I had clicked pickup instead of delivery when I ordered. Called Lassan again and told the owner what happened and she offered to deliver our food to our house. She was at our door in 15 minutes and refused to accept a $20 tip. Spent Valentines Day here. I was a little worried since most indian restaurants are run down and only cater to American Indian food but I was pleasantly surprised that every dish was packed with flavor and the atmosphere was elevated and modern. I've never tried Lamb Biryani before and was stuck between getting that or butter chicken, but I decided to try something new along with a new place! The service was nice and quick -- it was promised in 10 minutes and took less than that to reach our hands. The interior was very aesthetically pleasing and everything was clean and organized. The prices were also not bad for the amount of food and quality of food. I was so surprised to find that the lamb was so soft and pulled apart -- it was moist and seasoned great. The garlic naan was superb! We liked the lamb biryani but it was a bit too oily. I tried it with the yogurt sauce, and it wasn't bad but I'm not used to yogurt sauces and it took some getting used to. Because we did takeout, we didn't really have a lot of interactions with staff and with service. I ordered the sweet lassi but they mistakenly gave me the mango lassi which was completely ok cause I didnt mind it. The server allowed us to keep to the mango lassi and still provided us with the the sweet lassi. Normally, I prefer sweet lassi but I think their mango lassi was better haha. Samosas: (3/5) I was so excited for samosas but I felt like this didn't hit the spot. I felt like it was missing some flavor and spice. I would skip next time. We visited this new restaurant after a family friend said good things about it. Ambiance: Taking a couple of steps inside, I felt like I had walked into a chic DC restaurant. The black and white color combination with the not too dim yellow lights presented a modern and warming look. Food: This place certainly has many vegetarian options. We ordered the following: Drink: - Mango Lassi (4/5): The dark orange color had me a little surprised. Lassi was chilled as it should be, sweet, and refreshing, however the synthetic flavoring was a little overpowering for me. This is the first time ever I did not finish the entire lassi. Appetizer - Vegetable Samosas (2/5): Unfortunately the samosas were bland to all of us - not in terms of the spice level, but the actual masala / taste that traditionally goes into samosas. Also, there were too many green peas in it. - Masala Fries (3/5): Taste was pretty good, and quantity was significantly large - so this would be a good option to share amongst a larger group. A significant pain point for us was that the description on the menu for this did not match the actual dish that was brought out. The fries came covered with coriander/mint chutney, tamarind chutney, and an orange sauce or chutney for which the taste was unclear (I assume that was the "house queso"). The chutneys were not on the description, and the sour cream and cilantro that were on the description were nowhere to be found. The fries also were not crispy. Main course: - Malai kofta (5/5): It was cooked to perfection with the medium spice level we had asked for. The koftas weren't super large, texture was as it should be - not too soft and not too tough, and the kofta to gravy ratio was well balanced. Many Indian restaurants have a habit of serving curries where there isn't enough gravy, but Lassan got it right! There were whole pieces of tomato in the gravy, and that is something that I was okay with, but would not prefer. - Shahi paneer (4.5/5): Another well prepared dish where the paneer to gravy ratio was well balanced, and the amount of paneer was not overbearing. The paneer cubes were the perfect size and texture where you could easily break it, scoop it, and eat with a piece of naan with your hand in the traditional South Asian way. Again, there were whole pieces of tomato in the gravy, and that is something that I was okay with, but would not prefer. - Garlic naan (4.5/5): It was warm, tasty, and soft. Some pieces were a little thick or burnt, but it was not a problem. - Rice (5/5): Plain rice came with each of the two curries and was cooked as it should be. Service: Staff were super professional and friendly upon arriving and when leaving. Regarding the masala fries- another staff member who brought out the fries/other food deconflicted with the kitchen staff and had the fries prepared as per the menu. At the end, the staff member took it off the bill without us asking him to do it. That staff member and our server also asked for and welcomed our candid feedback. Overall the food quality taste was good, while being budget friendly. An additional thing that I took notice of was that the bathrooms were labeled with "All Gender" instead of the traditional "Men/Women". This use of inclusive language may be a small thing, but it can have a huge positive impact on non-binary customers. I think I would come back to this restaurant in the future to try out the other items on the menu, especially the pazookies! read more

Been here a handful of times now, and they have the BEST butter chicken ever! I've had it about once a week so far, so it's safe to say this is my favorite Indian restaurant. The butter chicken is heavenly, and always comes out fresh and delicious. The chicken is moist and tender, and the curry is creamy, rich, and flavorful. I'm obsessed and could seriously eat this everyday! I've also had their chicken biryani, and while it's on the saltier side, it is so good. Their samosas are also amazing. The only thing I didn't like was their chicken tikka masala, because the chicken chunks are dry. Perhaps if they prepared the chicken the same way as they do their butter chicken (sliced instead of cubed), then it would be perfect! I have always done take-out but plan on eating there one day. The cuisine attendant, Prutavi assisted me in my selection of the vegetarian option with garlic naan and chana Masala which came with an array of side sides like saag paneer which included pickled peppers /okra seasonings and a dessert rice pudding adjusted due to my nut sensitivity.
