Absolutely excellent dining experience yesterday. We ordered the chili chestnut, which was truly mind-blowing in quality. The kebab platter and chicken kadai were both wonderfully prepared, with well-balanced flavors and a perfect spice level. The food was not overly hot, but the seasoning and quality of spices really stood out. The service was outstanding throughout, attentive, friendly, and professional. The contemporary ambiance made the experience even more enjoyable, and the pricing was very decent for the quality offered. I came here for a group dinner yesterday after many years, and the place is still pretty vibrant and spacious although finding parking in the front of the restaurant can be a pain and I had to park at the other extreme end of the building complex. The food was buffet style because of the large group. It was nothing spectacular, but at least I did not get an upset stomach. I was in the area and craving Indian food, so a friend and I decided to stop by. I last came here for their lunch buffet which was amazing, but we came here for dinner this time. We ordered the bhel chaat to start. It was a bit on the sweet side but still very tasty. For our entrees we ordered tandoori chicken, paneer makhani, and the bread basket. Everything tasted great for the most part, but I wish the tandoori chicken was a bit more seasoned. We came right when the restaurant opened for dinner at 5, so it was pretty quiet, and there were a few other parties patronizing. Great lunch buffet is a great deal for $25 especially on Fridays with lots of vegetarian and meat dishes and a Dosa station along with a Masala Chai station. I can easily see why the restaurant was packed and most tables were filled up. It was impressive to see so many vegetarian dishes like Kadhai Pakora, Dhal Bati, Saag Paneer, Choola, Gobi Manchurin, pakoras along with fluffy Batura and Naan. While all of the dishes were good, the Saag Paneer and Batura were the stand-outs! I enjoyed the fresh Dosa stuffed with aloo potato. Masala Chai with the Coconut Keer Rice Pudding was the perfect ending to our meal! I was delightfully stuffed at the end of the meal, and not regretfully like at most buffets! Mother's Day was again a great spread. Perhaps a bit smaller than last year but prices for food have gone up but the overall pricing for the buffet remained the same. Owners awesome and made a point to greet everyone. Service was great and as soon as you finished you meal, plates were whisked away to be replaced by clean ones. Drings at the bar were included. Amazing Indian lunch buffet - one of the best in Northern Virginia in the Tyson's area. It has many vegetarian and non-vegetarian options (with both North Indian and South Indian dishes). It also has a fresh made to order dosa station and a separate dessert station. Has a modern look and feel, is very clean, and the staff is attentive and respectful. This place hit the spot yesterday. I enjoyed the tofu and goat on the buffet menu the most but everything was delicious. There was a server making one of the dishes onsite similar to the way fresh omelettes are made at breakfast places, but I don't know the name of the dish that he made. This place took a turn for the worst! I used to order food from here during Covid lockdown all the time. Tonight I ordered carry out, the rice portion is 1/4 of what it used to be. It's been years since I came here, since I no longer live in that area anymore, but we had the opportunity to come here and boy am I glad I did. While a little more on the pricey side, the food was delicious and portions were generous. In general, I've noticed lots of places charge regular price, but noticeably smaller portions than before COVID. I didn't get that feeling here. I ordered the Thali platter ($28). My son wasn't convinced the Thali ($10) on the kids menu was going to be enough, so we ordered the regular version of Butter Chicken ($20) which was much too much for him. Overall, I was very happy with the experience. Will try to come back next opportunity I have. read more

This review is for Bombay Tandoor's lunch buffet. Bombay Tandoor tends to fill up with people shortly before noon. Their lunch buffet is clean and a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are offered. Here is what you should know: 1) Tandoori chicken comes in bite-sized pieces and contains bones. My personal preference would be to serve larger pieces than smaller, meatball-sized ones. I took away one star for this reason. 2) The desserts today included a fruit custard and gulag jamun. Both were sweet. For some, they might be too sweet, but I liked them both. They helped cut the spiciness of some dishes. 3) Their butter chicken tastes wonderful. I used naan to capture every bit of the tasty sauce. This was my first time having their lunch buffet. I recommend this place and would return again. read more

Food and service were both good, but this restaurant considers 4 people a "large party" and charges a mandatory 20% (service?) fee. I have no argument with restaurants charging a service fee for large parties, and I usually tip 20% regardless, but since when does 4 people constitute a large party? read more

Did take out from Bombay Tandoor a couple of weeks ago. Food was okay, would have expected better as it's been a staple in the Tyson's area for over 2 decades. Biggest complaint is that they don't remove all of the non-edible stuff from chicken. Has fat, ligaments etc. Do a better job and don't get sloppy. read more

Food has always been good. I've no complaints about the food. This rating is because they do not value your time and omit items from orders. So I ordered at 4:30 for pickup at 5:30 and it's 5:55 and I'm still waiting. Takeout is always like this. You can't blame covid because this is how it was before covid, too. Guess they just don't give a shit. So after this I won't, either. I ask for a refund. The guy just walks away. A woman comes to ask if I've been helped and I tell her I don't have this much time to wait, I want a refund and to cancel my order. She stands there, then calls the other guy to ask if he's looking into this for me. He disappears. They pretend for a while that they can't find my order. Did I order through their website or a third party? It was directly from them. Do I have the correct restaurant? Yes of course. What's my order number? I look it up from the text they sent my phone at 4:30 to verify the order and give it to them. He disappears again and then swears when he resurfaces that it'll only be two minutes. It is now past 6:00 so I tell him I will give him two minutes and then he better refund my damn credit card and cancel the order. They have the order in the two minutes. Everything about the experience showed a well rehearsed act to stall so they could avoid giving me a refund and letting me go. It's absurd. The restaurant is empty except for one man eating out front. It is true that they have a lot of pick up orders but everyone there was waiting well past pickup time. I know this because the patrons who complained to me about how we were waiting forever, and the ones I overheard complaining to the restaurant staff, each said they ordered in advance. One person also ordered at 4:30 but her pickup was 5:45. She was still waiting when I left. And the icing on the cake? They omitted part of my order. No email receipt. No paper receipt. Missing items. But I had the total charged order confirmation from their site that I could remote into my work computer and screen shot. So I did. And then I reconstructed my order as I remembered it, along with the 20% tip no one deserved. And hey! My memory was right. And they forgot an order of samosa and an order of naan. Excellent food, awesome service, loved the whole experience of dining out at Bombay Tandoor. They were short of staff and slammed with orders. The manager came to our table and patiently explained their situation and that they may take 20 mins to bring the food out. We told him that we were starving, so he quickly brought us our drinks and then staggered the food so we always had something to eat. Highly recommend the paneer BTS roll, saag paneer, Chana masala and bread basket. We will definitely be back! We were so hungry that we forgot to take pics. The portions were TINY- both the butter chicken and pakoras were in small cup-sized containers, the basmati rice was in an even smaller container! Met a friend here for the lunch Buffett, and the new opening time is 11:45 and it took another 15 minutes for the Buffett to open so plan your lunch hour accordingly. Our daughter's preschool did a fundraiser with Bombay Tandoor and we weren't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be really yummy food. We got butter chicken for the kids expecting it to be pretty bland, but good for the kids. It turned out to be amazing with tons of flavor. I would definitely order it again. Although, our kids turned out to be picky eaters and didn't eat any of the chicken, but instead basically just at the saffron rice. The saffron rice was also really good for the few bites I got before resigning it all to the kids. The samosas were probably my favorite thing we got. They were crismy and delicious and actually pretty spicy, which I wasn't expecting. Spicy samosas apparently rock. The naan wasn't at all disappointing although also nothing super noteworthy. The saag and lentils we got rounded out the meal and I enjoyed them, but they also didn't blow me away. read more

I had a really good meal here on a recent business trip. The restaurant is located in a mixed office park and retail area. Bombay Tandoor has a nice décor, clean, neat and classic. I was feeling in a vegan mood and I ordered chana (chickpea) masala, naan, some samosa as an appetizer ... all were very good. The serving sizes were generous. I was traveling for work and could not take my leftovers. I ate at the bar and I received very attentive service. It looked like the wait staff for tables was attentive as well. My food came out quickly from the kitchen. Best of all, the prices here were very reasonable. Regarding drinks, they have a full bar. There was not a lot on draft but lucky for me they had Lagunitas on tap. I would be happy to go again to Bombay Tandoor any time. read more

I used to go here every Friday for lunch with coworkers for a few years. I went again recently and I feel like this place is stuck in a time dilation warp. The service is not great and I'm being nice, but the butter chicken is fantastic, though I'm not an expert on the subject I've been told it's fairly authentic by people in the know. So it's kind of toss up on what matters most to you, good food or good service. My rating is a compromise on those two things, to put it in different terms: do not take a first date here, do go here when you're ready to get fat together with your significant other. read more

Whilst we use to like this restaurant for their buffet on weekends, they have now raised the price for kids it use to be $10, this weekend they told me all kids now pay $18 and $25 for adults. This is far too steep for buffet food. Our kids 2yrs and 4yr old Normally pay nothing in other buffet restaurants, Jaipur restaurant will charge $10 for the 4yr old only, which is more reasonable. Our kids eat a little rice and sometimes a tablespoon of chicken curry. At this price it's now better to go to a regular restaurant and get a freshly prepared entree of their choice at a lower price. I was a little disappointed since I had requested for some spice to be added to the butter chicken and it was not included. Regardless, the food was great! The portion I got for the butter chicken was more than satisfying. I was only able to eat half and took the other half home which says a lot since I can E A T. I have 3 favorite restaurants in my life and this is one of them. I bring work associates here and they all agree everytime with out question. Also they switch up the menu regularly. It's been almost a decade since I last ate here but this place is still dishing out delicious Indian eats! The buffet is lavish with a mix of classics (butter chicken, tandoori chicken, chana masala, samosas, rice and naan) but they also mixed it up with some new items such as a huge vat of freshly cooked bhindhi masala which is my absolute favorite thing in the world to eat.
