Waste of money. $19.44 for butter chicken. Very odd texture (like way too much dry seasoning) and unpleasant taste. Butter chicken, looks more orange than it actually is. It's more of a yellow color and had like rotisserie chicken in it. I've been too many Indian restaurants throughout the United States and this is by far the worst. So glad they are still open through the pandemic. As a long time customer, this is one of my fave places to go. The owners are wonderful people, the food remains top quality, and dining there always brings a smile to my face. Small corner location with limited parking. Interior was nice with a wall of awards. Went to order and the waitress had to check to make sure they could make the appetizer dish I ordered. When the appetizer came, we were given styrofoam bowls to eat from. Ordered a sweet lasso but was brought a mango lasso. Main dishes were well seasoned. Medium is true to spice level. Plenty to take home(styrofoam containers). They were short staffed I believe yet the gentleman running the cash register sat and gave orders. The one waitress was doing everything. Owner is a crook. I ordered the samosa chaat and lamb vindaloo. I did not receive the lamb, instead they gave me chicken. It was so close to closing time so I voiced my grievance and ate the chicken. The owner said he will take care of the price as there was a big price difference between the lamb and chicken. He instead charged me more for the samosa chaat and left the lamb vindaloo price the same. I decided to just pay the bill and leave, never to eat here again. The food tasted great so its a shame the owner is shady. If you decide to go here please keep an eye on the prices and if you have more time then me, make sure you don't get overcharged. read more

One of the BEST restaurants in Fayetteville (possibly in all of NC!). And hands down the best Indian restaurant. Their food menu is extensive. I haven't had anything sub-par. My favorites are the kadai mushroom paneer and the chicken korma (it has pineapples so it's sweet and savory). The garlic naan is fluffy and light. The rice pilaf is tasty, even though they serve their dishes with plain rice and pickled veggie salad, it's a nice upgrade to get as well. The pilaf has green beans, corn, carrots, cashews, raisins and cinnamon and other herbs. They serve free pappadum (like a large cracker) with 2 chutneys. There's an extensive and unique beer menu. Imagine beer from Brazil/ India/ Russia/ Cyprus and other places! You know when you remember eating at a place years ago and you loved it, but are worried it might not be as good as you remember? This place is somehow even better. I lived in Fayetteville NC for a few years 6 years ago (pre-Yelp days for me) and it was one of my favorite places in Fayetteville. Flash forward 6 years, and I have a chance to take my parents there. They're from Ireland so they're a bit hesitant about trying diverse cuisines. And they don't eat spicy- at all! So, when the restaurant was able to accommodate them and they LOVED it, I know it's truly a winner for anyone. My mom is still raving about how much she loved it! The wall of awards and a 100 percent sanitation rating are the icing on the cake. The prices are very reasonable and to put a huge cherry on top, the owners (a husband and wife duo) are 2 of the nicest people you will ever meet! This is our go to place for Indian food when we don't feel like cooking dinner. We started out with samosas and pakora with mint chutney. The samosas were flavorful but it could have been better. The pakoras were perfect with the chutney. What I liked about the chutney was that it wasn't watered down and it had a subtle kick. Let's move on to the curries. My husband is currently obsessed with lamb vindaloo (the middle one) so we got that as our non vegetarian entree. The lamb meat was tender and the curry was creamy and the medium level of spicy is perfect. Considering all the lamb vindaloo I have tried from different restaurants, this is the best one! The channa masala (chickpea curry) was milder than expected and the chickpeas were slightly overcooked and mushy. The mutter paneer was green peas and paneer in a creamy tomato sauce. It tasted like the vegetarian version of butter chicken. I am always picky about paneer because the way that someone prepares it can either excel the dish or completely ruin it. Kelly Kishan, the chef, elevated the dish by focusing on the preparation of the paneer. Where do I begin?!? I am in love with everything about this place. For starters, when I first walked in the 100% sanitation grade stood out to me. We had a party of 3 adults and 4 children. We were seated promptly. The adults ordered a variety of dishes that we shared. The children enjoyed tandoori chicken legs. My 10yo said they were "phenomenal". The shrimp biryani and shrimp curry were delicious as well. We also ordered a side of the garlic naan which was light but flavorful. I also appreciate that they allow you to personalize your spice level. I went for the "child mild". The owners were very kind, interactive, and personable. They keep the restaurant spotless. [Coronavirus review] Open for takeout and dine-in when I visited, but no one was dining in. Some odd customer service experiences were mentioned in other reviews, but all I did was hang out and wait for my order while the guy working in front took calls and delivered orders, making a point to emphasize how fresh everything was. It sure tasted fresh. I asked for them to bring up the spice level, and they delivered two entrees that were flaming hot from start to finish. My spice tolerance is not low, but having downed my okra and lentils with a chilli naan, I was beginning to look around for help. Fortunately, I had ordered a samosa chaat drowning in yogurt which cooled down some of the residual burn. The packaging of some items was a bit messy, but I was pleased to discover that my entrees came with not only rice but a small salad (not cucumber thankfully as the menu implied, but cabbage and peppers and carrots), as well as a couple of pakoras. Even through the burn, ample herbs and a complex flavor prevailed. The price to portion size was not bad either; my bill only crossed $50 with the tip I added (tipping for takeout is increasingly the norm in this new world), but I'll get at least three solid meals, with still some leftover, not to mention the vigorously flavored peanuts I snacked on for an entire day at work. As much as I hate to say it, I might ask for a medium spice level on at least one dish if I were ordering again, just to give myself a break. But I doubt I'll find more flavor in Fayetteville. read more

To be candid, I am posting this review quite a few weeks after eating here, but I can honestly say that my experience was memorable and I would definitely recommend Bombay Bistro to anyone in the Fayetteville area. I don't remember the name of the lamb dish I ordered, but it was DELICIOUS! I also ordered the Garlic Naan, raita, green chutney, and a mango lassi (which is always necessary if you order your Indian food super spicy). The only complaint I have is that the garlic naan was seasoned with garlic powder instead of fresh garlic. Overall, my dinner was worth every penny. This is my second favorite Indian restaurant in town. Tandoori Bites is my most favorite. But Bombay Bistro is great too. I like the smaller more intimate feel of the restaurant at Bombay. Tandoori is large and gets crowded very fast. Bombay is more low key and comfortable. The food is excellent too. I get the veggie samosa, garlic naan and cheese nan. Being from New Jersey, I was very reluctant to try this small Indian restaurant on the side of the road. I am so glad I tried it. The service was fast and Personal and the food was some of the best food I've had since moving to NC. The mango lassies were definitely homemade and didn't taste like it was out of a jug. By far one of the best restaurants in Fayetteville. This has been my husbands and my go to spot for years. The owners are so nice and it has such a mom and pop feel. Bombay Bistro is as home cooked as it gets. What this place is: This is one of those beautifully hidden mom and pop kinda restaurants. Kumar runs the front of the house, while Chef Kelly rules the kitchen. They are very approachable. Open a conversation with them. This restaurant is their passion. What to get: Beginners to Indian flavors should start with the Samosas. They are hand made and definitely worth every bite. Chicken Tikka Masala or Butter chicken, mild spices in a tomato base packed with flavor, should be your intro entree. One is white meat, and the other is dark. The sauce is the highlight of the meal. Order a tandoor naan with garlic, or if you prefer some heat, bullet naan. Use it to sop up the sauce. Don't be afraid to ditch the utensils. It's more authentic that way. If you're not the type that likes your protein in gravy, then try the Tandoori Chicken. This will ease your palette out of your allegiance to greasy fried versions of the drumstick. These are cooked skinless, but in a high heat tandoor oven, meaning the outer layer will have a light crisp bite, and the inside will be moist but well done. read more

I should probably start with the fact that I've had authentic home made Indian food and good quality restaurant Indian food so many times. Ordered Samosas, saag paneer, vegetable curry, chick pea curry, and galub jamun for dessert. Pros - Awesome menu! Great variety and selection. There's definitely something for everyone. Totally vegetarian friendly, as a good Indian restaurant should be. - Great service. The waitress checked in on us regularly, refilled our glasses when needed, and didn't push us out when we were finished with our meal and still chatting. The owner is a totally sweet man and checked in on us twice to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. - Nice layout. I like the decoration and the hint of incense in the air. They were playing what I believe to be Bollywood music, too! Totally cool, cuz I love Bollywood movies. - Samosas and galub jamun were very good. I liked the sauce that accompanies the samosas. Galub jamuns were properly soaked in that sweet syrup. That was pretty spot on. - The papadum they serve with the two sauces (one sweet and one spicy) were good and what I was accustomed to. - The spice level is legit. I ordered the medium, which is above mild, and I could definitely feel the heat. If you're sensitive to spicy foods, I recommend going no spice or their low level. - Good portions. My friend and I did not finish our meals and had plenty leftover to take home. Cons - The curry was too acidic. There was a tomato base with my spinach curry, which I didn't mind, but it seemed to overpower the overall flavor. I'm not used to so much tomato in my curry. My friend made the same observation for her curries, as well. I expected it to be a bit creamier, but that is also what I've been used to. I'm not certain if this happens to be how the saag paneer is made according to the owner's style/region in India or if this is their way of adapting to the local appetite. I've seen ethnic restaurants develope their menu and flavor to the local taste and it often times detract from the authenticity of the flavor. Whatever reason, it kind of put me off a bit. - The prices for the main dishes can be a bit pricey, especially for the meat dishes. For example, a lamb biryani is $16. However, I suppose their portion sizes make up for that. The prices may also reflect the cost of ingredients in the local area. Final Answer It's like that first date who isn't bad, but didn't impress you. I can't give this place 4 stars, because the curry was somewhat disappointing. Afterall, curry is a cornerstone of indian food. It's not bad, especially for an area where it's hard to find good authentic ethnic food of any kind. I've just had better. read more

Bombay Bistro is totally my favorite place for Indian food. They have a lunch and dinner option and if I didn't have to pace myself, I would totally have Indian food all day. Their lunch option is a buffet that rotates daily. They have both meat and vegetarian dishes available. The menu for dinner is also available but the buffet beckons me like a siren each time, particularly the yummy lapsi or sheera dessert. I love dinner! A friend and I generally split an order of samosas and garlic pita. SO GOOD AND FRESH. The spice factor is just right; it's a lingering heat on the palate. There's quite an extensive vegetarian option but I'm totally here for the meat. I either get the saag chicken or the lamb rogan josh, both are tender and very flavorful. You can choose your level of heat - from not spicy to Indian spicy. I'm totally a wimp and get mild and that can still get me a little flushed. I tried Indian spicy, I'm pretty sure it was delicious but my tongue became numb at some point. The owners are sweet and the gentleman sometimes walks around to see if you're enjoying yourself.
