It wasn't the smoothest service experience, as this place was struggling to handle some big takeout/catering orders and not a lot of attention was paid to greeting the few of us that were dining in. There seemed to be some discord in the kitchen as well, and it just didn't give off the greatest vibe. I hope they were just having an off day in that sense, because the food was basically what I was hoping for. I tried some of their signature items, with a rich dal being complimented by an impressively thin and soft bread. I just find ultra-thin flatbread to be delightful. Ordering a sizzler based on yogurt-coated soy chunks was an intriguing option. While I didn't opt for the vegan items on this visit, they had a decent selection marked. The butter masala is my absolute favorite here and I like it with either the paneer or lamb. I have also tried the mushroom option which is good but I do prefer mushrooms more on the well-done side and here they were cooked more al dente. We were in the area and came in for a late dinner. I'm not sure that the staff was happy that we came in late. It was about 2 hours before they closed and it was obvious they wanted to leave. When we arrived, alot of the tables had Not been cleaned. Our waiter did come over and take our drink order but it took them a while to come back with them. Finally got our drinks and ordered our food. I ordered the lamb Rogan Josh and it was pretty good. Good flavor and a decent amount of lamb. I came in tonight at 8:34. They close at 9p. They refused to seat me and explained they were only allowing take out orders.

Food is great. Paying for food is not! I visited Saffron on 12/15/25 and when it was time to pay they came by with a handheld pay device, I quickly tapped my card not realizing that I needed to choose the tip beforehand. I asked if I could do it over to add a tip because I did not have any cash on me and the server said don't worry about it. Well I should have worried about it because my lunch total should have been $14.06 and they went ahead and added a 30% tip after I left for a total of $18.28 according to my credit card records. I did not authorize that amount and I don't appreciate the dishonesty when I tried to make it right by asking to do it over and add the tip. read more

I ate here last night. I shared their President Platter with my son and it was a lot of food! I enjoyed most of the items with the shrimp and lamb shank being my favorite. My daughter in law got the chicken Tikki Masala. She really liked it. Their naan was delicious. It was the perfect consistency of being soft, chewy, with slightly crisp spots. I discovered the Saffron Indian restaurant as my friend and I pulled into this small commercial center that's anchored by Harris Teeter and Walmart. I was like, let's have lunch before we head out to Rockingham! After we finished shopping at Walmart and Harris Teeter nearby, we ended up here. We entered around 12:30pm and it wasn't really air conditioned. We couldn't feel it or it wasn't high enough to notice. At least they had restrooms, which was cool. My friend and I spent about an hour here from entrance to exit and it was a delightful, simple meal. We both ordered entrees and then I ordered garlic naan to share. The restaurant was largely empty when we walked in and was promptly seated, but had a couple of tables occupied. It was nice and comfortable, although the ambiance couldn't have been better. The quietness of the restaurant was good and definitely enjoyable while my friend made a stop for lunch on the way to Rockingham that day. I ended up getting the lamb curry, which was ordered medium, served with basmati rice. And of course, an order of garlic naan. Naan is always a go to option for me. Not sure what my friend ordered since I took photos of my order. I may have ordered alcohol as well, which was refreshing and cool. For the most part though, the lunch stop here at Saffron Indian restaurant was pretty good and flavorful. It was delicious and definite a kickstart to my weekend in North Carolina. As far as public transportation options go, best bet would be to consult the city of Raleigh public transportation and see if they have service out here. If not, consider having a rental car or using Uber or Lyft. I came and gone with a friend who used her car on our road trip to Rockingham that day. If nothing else, plan accordingly and you'll be here in no time at all. It was one of the highlights that day, including grabbing ice cream in Rockingham later in the day. Recommend the lamb curry here as well. The menu had a plethora of offerings. Seemed limited but I just love Indian curries and basmati rice. I got the CHICKEN LUNCH COMBO and the chicken curry was delicious. It's a good concept for a cheaper meal HOWEVER you have no choice over the main dish, side, or dessert. Overall a good price compared to the average cost of a take out order, but I was a bit disappointed by the proportions. The combo is supposed to include several items on the side but they were either MISSING from my order (like the papad) or MUCH SMALLER than advertised in the photo (raita and salad). The host was delightful and Seated us promptly. The restaurant itself was a nice sit down place with an open dinning room. The menu had a well balanced selection of classic Indian fare. We ordered the manchurian Cauliflower entree with saffron rice, chicken tiki masala and paneer stuffed naan. Everything was well balanced and rich in flavor. Portions were appropriate sending us with some leftovers. I followed my meal up with a refreshing mango lassi to go. They were also very accommodating to spice levels since one in my party isn't able to tolerate too much heat. I was honestly just a little disappointed by the food. I couldn't taste the subtle tastes of the greens or the eggplant...the salt overpowered it Chicken biryani while very tasty it was also on the saltier side. As a fan of Indian food, I've often had mixed reviews for my options in the Triangle but have always enjoyed the food that Chef Gamer cooks up! Saffron is his newest restaurant after running Amber out in Morrisville and its location in the old Ginger space off Kildaire Farms Road works great for me. Saffron has a slightly upscale but comfortable feel, decked out in beiges and deep brown, offering a more traditional dining room experience. The menu at Saffron is broad and features a lot of different items that I haven't seen elsewhere, Chef Gamer spins up classic Indian cuisine with a modern twist. We tried their paneer 65 (excellent) a crispy kale palak chaat (fried kale with a creamy sauce) along with chicken korma and garlic naan, delish! Dining here you just can tell extra effort is made to use higher quality, fresher ingredients and it show up whenever you take a bite. Service here is very good and suits the menu, prices and dining room. My family and I were very disappointed in this restaurant given all the rave reviews here on Yelp. Cons: - Chicken dishes all had the standard generic chicken cubes dropped into a different gravy. They were hard/dry and not at all tender/succulent - Chicken butter masala sauce was very ordinary and bland. One of the rare occasions we didn't end up finishing all the sauce - Naans are pretty thick and chewy and on the tough side. Pretty disappointed with them overall - Mushroom butter masala was also pretty ordinary in flavor Some positives: - Roomali roti was pretty good - Chicken Kadahi was much more flavorful. I am SO glad to have this amazing option for Indian so close to home. Have eaten twice in person and once via delivery. Flavors are wonderful! Quality is superb. I will say, eating in person, you can tell they're still a new place and figuring out efficiencies- it took a long time to get things like drinks, refills or food orders, etc. We even had a free dessert (via checking in with Yelp!) that we ran out of time for and didn't get. The biggest highlight of Saffron is the food. I ordered lamb vindaloo and a side of garlic naan. The curry was cooked perfectly. I can't tell you the amount of times I've had a curry that was starting to separate. The flavors were all there. Spice wasn't quite as high as I liked/ordered, but that's not a problem. Service was a real problem. During my meal, the staff had family/friends/maybe a VIP in an area. Even if this is a VIP, it was a small party. You need no more than one sever there. Unfortunately, the entire staff was hanging out at that table and neglecting the rest of the customers. I wanted more rice and I was prepared to pay for more rice. I didn't get the opportunity to order more rice. I came back again for lunch because the express lunch looked interesting. Choose a protein [or make it vegetarian] and a spiciness level. You get a nice, light tasting menu. It's honestly close to a perfect lunch. This was another thing that Saffron executed perfectly. Service was fine during my lunch. There are so many great Indian places in RTP. The food was good overall, but I had a few issues. First, they use paper straws--which became soggy within minutes and made it hard to enjoy my mango lassi. Second, the eggplant dish was served with a lit piece of charcoal to infuse smokiness, which was removed at the table. We ordered pickup on a weekday for Chettinad Vegetables and Paneer Tikka Masala. The Chettinad gravy was a dark black color, and it was loaded with excess oil. We took a paper towel and removed the oil. The vegetables in the dish were frozen vegetables. The taste was very mediocre. The Paneer Tikka Masala had bell peppers that were soft and squishy, and it was loaded with oil. All in all, we found the dishes to be excessively oily and mediocre in taste. We were seated promptly and provided menus. There seemed to be some minor misunderstanding about the order. First, ordered mango lassi no ice and it was brought in a to go plastic container. The size and price is varied from other establishments as this is a traditional drink and not deducting any stars, 4 stars Wanted a side salad but none only a regular salad, ordered with dressing on the side simple to pack up remaining salad. A decent size for $7, menu states GF and mix green, tomatoes, cucumber, lemon vinaigrette. The one received was different as it consisted of a few additional items such as radish, grapefruit, and avocado! Please be mindful to patrons with allergies to such as avocado. Discussed with the gal who seated us who mentioned to two other employees. One of the waiters came over apologized and offered to make a whole new salad! Great customer service at the moment. The leftover salad was packaged with avocado!!! Next time leave off the extras and will indeed request a fresh, new salad to go, 3 stars for mishap including packing with avocado! Next entree arrived which was something from another picture that looked scrumptious and wanted for dinner. The two people who took order mentioned it was an appetizer but were willing to accommodate and make as dinner. The pictures looked very different for chicken malai but was seasoned wonderfully served with mint sauce and basmati rice. Decent serving size plus pack up leftovers. The waiter brought dessert to accompany the meal and experience, 4 stars The water not sure if bottle water such as Fiji or Aqua Panna but currently Town of Cary is treating tap water and it is not good. While no stars deducted, since Town of Cary does this at least annually mIght want to consider an alternative for drinking water. Dessert, delightful ending 5 stars. Everything was very tasty and flavorful. The spice levels were well explained and I could order it even hotter. I went with a group of 4 friends and split appetizers, bread and entrees. The standouts were the dhal and lamb Josh. Don't forget to order a couple sides of pickle. Our server AJ was fantastic and added to the overall experience. What a wonderful discovery! In the 11 years we've lived in Cary we've not found an Indian restaurant that has measured up to the quality of food we enjoyed at Saffron tonight. Everything was excellent from the welcoming staff to the presentation, and above all the quality of the dishes. We shared an order of vegetable samosas appetizers followed by Chicken Tika Marsala, Lamb Korma, and garlic Naan.
