Pistachio Korma Level 3 Spicyness and Butter Chicken, non-spicy with yummy Garlic Naan. Excellent!
    Toshi I.

We ordered the Butter Chicken Mild and wanted to try something different, so we ordered the Pistachio Chicken Korma along with the Garlic Naan. This was really delicious, an explosion of flavor. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. For sure, we are returning! This place is huge like the size of two restaurants. Would be great for large groups. The service was helpful and friendly. The owner introduced himself to us. Our experience was very positive and we will be back!

My son and his wife get take out from here all the time so they took me here for dinner. We each ordered a dish and they were all amazing! We ordered Chicken Tiki Masala, House Special Biryani, and Tandoori Chicken. I'd get them all again! I wish the restaurant was in Denver!

Excellent Indian cuisine. The menu is descriptive and includes spice levels. I was not up for the heat so I opted for the shrimp korma with garlic naan and loved it! Located on Millbrook, Masala House is in a plaza down the road from North Hills. Parking is available right out front. We dined as a party of 3 on a Saturday for dinner. Employees greeted us upon arrival and seated us. Our waiter was very attentive at the beginning of the meal and then disappeared when we had questions and needed takeout containers. Several other employees walking by helped us. We didn't realize that to reduce food waste they don't bring out rice for each individual. Rather they bring larger dishes for sharing. It makes sense once we were informed of the reason 2/3 of us received rice. They do encourage you to request more rice if you want it. The takeout containers seem to be self serve on the shelves in the middle of the room. We all loved our dishes, even the chicken wings were crisp and better than wings served at local bars. Overall positive experience and we recommend this restaurant to others!

I stopped in for takeout in a hurry. The menu is Nepali and North Indian, so I went ahead and got some momos. These dumplings were filling, with a mix that apparently included both paneer and tofu as well as vegetables. I ordered my lentils and my okra extra spicy, and as befitting the cuisine they came with a venomous bite. It was a bit on the salty, oily, indulgent side, but split up over several meals it did the job.

Great little place tucked in the middle of Raleigh. I went on a rainy day - so it wasn't packed at all. Parking was easy. The ambiance was pleasant and the staff very friendly. The service was quick and friendly. The food came out quickly. Everything tasted fresh and very hot. I would say I truly enjoyed each element - nothing was more satisfying than the other. Will return.

Note: This was my first experience with this restaurant. It's in the same strip mall as a Food Lion but tucked away on the side of the building. It's very hard for me to rate a restaurant 1-star because that's really 0 stars and for that to be true, a restaurant has to fail in every count: service, food, environment and it's rare that all three are total duds. Based on those criteria, this is a 2-star experience for me. Here's why: *I arrived at 12pm with only 4 tables occupied aside from me, in the restaurant. 2 tables already had food. *I waited 10 minutes for the server who walked past me twice to even greet me. *I decided to go with the lunch special, which included appetizer (soup), entrée, rice, naan and a choice of two desserts. It was $14.99 for the chicken option. *The lentil soup was overly salty and bland but good texture. *The Karahi was deliciously spiced, the rice average and the naan was also too salty and overcooked (the bottom was more like a cracker than typical). The kheer was average but really cold, which is how I prefer it. *I asked for mixed pickle when I ordered, repeated it twice & finally pointed to it on the menu. I didn't get it, but at least I wasn't charged for it. *He was very animated with those of Indian descent, forthcoming with lots recommendations unprompted but totally indifferent and absent to me. *Not once did he stop by to ask about my meal or if I needed a refill. The interior is...interesting but it's bright, clean and relatively inviting. 2 of my dishes were below average. 2 were averge and 1 was very good. This is the sole reason I rated Masala 2 stars instead of 1. Service gets a solid Z-E-R-O. 0, I think I maybe got them on an off day based on all these amazing reviews but this place is wasted on me.

Tandoori Mixed Grill. Fluffy rice, Curry sauce, tender naan. As you can see it puts a Big Smile on Dr J's face!

Masala House is a nice clean place to stop in and enjoy some tasty Indian fare! The waitstaff is personable young men, making the atmosphere welcoming. The rice is always fluffy, no globby chunks. Tandoori grill always stands out as an excellent choice. The naan is tender with just right amount of browning. I enjoy the tamarind sauce and the delightful curry sauce with my rice and naan. The rice pudding is nice, serving needs to be larger. The people are nice as you come and as you go. Parking is handy. Dont let the storefront location deter you from entering in and enjoying some delicious food. Take the step, walk in and try the food. You will be glad that you did. They will make you feel right at home. We have arrived quite casually, after a day of running errands and fit right in. Very clean restrooms. Tasty, delicious, no pressure. Enjoy!

We were hesitant about this unassuming spot in a nearby strip mall, but we love hidden gems and we were not disappointed. We easily booked reservations on open table, when we arrived it didn't seem necessary at first but the place very quickly filled up! We had a great seat by the window, all of the furniture felt new and was good space. The noise level rose throughout the night, maybe they could use more sound absorption because we could barely hear the ambiance music. They give you free cracker bread with sauces, this is a nice touch. Drink options with a full bar and very traditional cocktails. I would suggest building a unique cocktail menu, even just a few. We ordered the veg momo and gobi Manchurian and both were delicious! We did level 2 and that felt right for me, hot enough to build the heat over time but not too mild. For our mains, the hubby got goat vindaloo and I got the shahi paneer. He said the goat was hands down the most tender he has had in the area (and we frequent Tamasha), sauce was as expected but he was blown away. My dish was really good, nice and savory, perfect spice level. We ordered the bread basket which is a little of all the naan ....be aware that this a A LOT of bread lol. But the good news is that we have enough naan for the week :) The one kink they need to really work out is the service. It was hit and miss, I think if it had gone a little quicker I would have had another round of drinks and we had to wait quite a while for the check. Otherwise, this is a winner! Easy go to spot without having to go all the way to Lime and Lemon.

Everything about this locale is intentional: the lighting, the decor, the colors... it's truly the perfect date spot. I'd like to recognize Sam Sanchez at the bar, who guided me from cocktail to entree and beyond for my eventual second visit while in Raleigh. He listened closely to my taste preferences, and his recommendations were flawless (although I can't imagine ANYTHING on the menu isn't delightful). On my first visit I started with the Byadgi Chili Shrimp and then feasted on the Lamb Sheekh Kebab. The shrimp texture was just right and the coconut sauce is a perfect compliment. The lamb kebab comes in two separate pieces; one is wrapped in naan and the other is naked. The chili beurre blanc sauce has a kick that I really enjoyed! And my favorite: Dal-e Tamasha, 24 hours slow cooked black lentil. My mouth is watering even as I think about it. You might think something as humble as lentils could not make one's heart race... but you would be wrong. My second visit saw me reunited with my dear Dal-e Tamasha plate and what became the pinnacle of my visit to Raleigh: MUSHROOM "MADE IN HEAVEN" dish. It is difficult to describe how AMAZING every bite is. There is a complexity of flavors that somehow blend AND standout. Each nibble of the dumpling and a bit of risotto along a sip of the "umami bomb" is an experience. I am actually very glad I was sitting on the patio dining solo because I was able to give my full attention to this experience. To wrap it all up, I was fortunate enough to try the pink guave lemon lime and tahin sorbet... don't snooze on it, it's a must try! A big shout out to the Tamasha team, owner Mike (thank you for checking on me and chatting up spices and culture!), and Chef Chhatwani for sharing your passion with the world. I can't WAIT to return to Raleigh and visit again.

Tamasha definitely has a unique spin on their Indian cuisines, which correlates with the prices of their dishes. I'd say if you're trying to impress a date or wanting to splurge a bit, Tamasha is definitely your go-to restaurant for dinner**! I don't believe they're open for lunch. While it is pricey here, the ambiance of the restaurant is top notch, so you're definitely paying for an experience! The person at the front desk was super kind and helped me look into which dishes were fine for takeout (there are some items that wouldn't fair well eaten later or packed in a to-go container). The only dish I found myself liking the most would be their tamasha fried chicken. It was breaded nicely and had a refreshing yogurt based dip. The rest of the dishes, such as the tandoori mushroom and butter chicken, and crab moilee (not pictured), were okay. I didn't hate it or like it, but it just didn't pop out in flavor as Indian cuisine for me. The four cheese truffle kulcha (not pictured) was a nice carb appetizer! I was quite surprised at how small the tandoori mushroom dish was. It was just one ravioli cut in half! Still, I guess quality over quantity! I also never figured out which dish the white noodles were supposed to be paired with... Also, if you do takeout, they have a lovely seating area with AC (thank goodness) for folks to sit in. It was nice waiting there for my order to be complete! Overall, it was a 3-3.5 star takeout experience for me.

"Nepalese and Indian food in downtown Raleigh, near Marriott"…read more With a great location, this is VERY close to the Raleigh Convention Center. We arrived on a Thursday night at 6pm with a group of 5. The dining area didn't really accommodate a group that size, but they made it work by moving tables around, which was nice. The place was not very large, but there was maybe only one other family eating inside. The bathroom was clean. I split two dishes with my son-- salmon tikka masala and shrimp (prawn) saag, both coming with rice. We were given some papadum, I think, as a snack as we waited on the food, along with some spicy dips. Food came in maybe 10 minutes or so, which was great timing. However, I have to say, both dishes we tried were underwhelming. The shrimp was oddly translucent and not very flavorful in its dish, and the spinach in the saag wasn't especially tasty (though it did have a nice spiciness). The tikka masala sauce was great, but the salmon also was pretty underwhelming. We both said we'd probably just get chicken next time and not splurge the extra for the salmon. No dish was "bad", but just we expected them to be delicious and they were just OK. I'm just really surprised given how many people said this was the "best Indian" they'd had. The staff were friendly-- refilled drinks well and were good at answering questions. And the price was reasonable. Altogether, I'll give it 4 stars given the great location, good service, good price, but not 5 given the food was "just OK". Realistically, I probably wouldn't go back-- we have lots of great Indian in Durham and Chapel Hill, so I'd rather wait and get that.

You can make reservations using the Yelp app, but we got there at 6pm Thursday and tables were open anyway. It filled up in about 90 minutes. Not a lot of pics in the huge menu. They have specials on certain days. After we ordered, we found out about a great deal for Thursdays. It was our fault we missed it because it was written RIGHT THERE on the menu. The lack of pics made it tough to order, though I'd had Indian many times. And the thick accents from the employees didn't help us to decide anything. Myself, I just stuck to curry. I picked mutton because I'd always wanted to try it. Yelp pics didn't help much either because few people write in descriptions what the photos are. Everything tasted amazing. They really know their food. Not to take anything away from the main dishes (I told you I loved them) but the standout for me were the fried pepper appetizers. A mix of just enough outside crunch and soft inside flavor. I'm no fan of chai tea, but I really liked theirs. The mutton was great, but I more prefer my meals without bones in them. Like with oxtails, which are routinely more skeleton than flesh, it's never a fine experience finding your bite to be a mouthful of bone. It's overrated, I promise you. The bill paying system is grossly inefficient. Tell them you want separate checks and nothing happens until the very end where everyone has to tell the server what they ordered, in a language they don't understand, mind you, and she charges everyone, one by one. It took like ten minutes to get through our party of five. It's a really bad method. Since it was my birthday, they played a YouTube video over the speakers. It was a generic "Happy Birthday To Whomever" type deal that worked fine, but they let it play for its whole fifteen minute runtime. It was cute, funny and ridiculous all at once. Wonderful food, nice servers, language barriers can be tough, and some questionable business practices still make this one a solid keeper. Just brace yourself.
