    The butter chicken is the best I've ever had. Spicy and flavorful and the lunch portion is the right size. Huns had the chicken biryani and he liked it. I tried a bit and it was more onion flavored that I've ever had before in a biryani.

    If you're ever in Skagway and looking for something different than seafood or a brew pub try Bombay Curry just off Broadway on 5th Avenue. Truly authentic Indian food in a totally unexpected location. We had the Butter chicken level five (out of ten) spice, with a regular piece of naan. Everything is cooked fresh and comes to the table piping hot. There are only four tables in the restaurant/store and Indian music videos were playing on the TV.

    The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything close to what I expected. I've eaten tikka masala at hundreds of restaurants in dozens of countries around the world. None had as little flavor as this version. All others fit a similar spectrum of spice blend profile. I would never have identified this as tikka masala, were it not for the words on the menu. Obviously the chicken was marinated. It was tender and had some residual flavor from the marinade. The off-white sauce, in contrast, was exceptionally bland and lacking in spice. (Note I said spice - not spiciness. There was a touch of heat in the sauce, but the only real flavor was milk.) I had been warned away by locals, but every other restaurant was packed with cruise ship passengers. This place had room at its four tiny tables. They did fill a number of take-away orders, and seem to have some degree of regular clientele. I won't be numbered among them.

    So awesome to have some vegan options! We ordered the rajma kidney beans and chefs special vegetable mix. The kidney beans had a great rich flavor! Good portions too. The owners are very kind and the service was wonderful.

    Curry chicken and mango lassi

    Husband and I went on Alaskan cruise for our anniversary and after days of bland boring food on the ship we found Bombay Curry. Let me tell you what an absolute godsend this food was. Warmed us up right away after being frozen in the wind. We love curry chicken and just had to try theirs. It did NOT disappoint; absolutely delicious. I got a level 7 spice and my husband got an 8 (we love our spicy food). Not only was the food delicious, but the owners were so nice, they kept checking on us and making sure we had enough rice and we're doing well. The restaurant itself is also intimate and cozy which was very nice as we don't like a lot of hustle and bustle. They also sell snacks and other odds and ends. It was literally the best food and best dining experience we got the entire time on our trip. If we ever make it back to Skagway, we will definitely be stopping by again! If you like actual flavor to your food and enjoy spicy food, check it Bombay Curry. TOTALLY WORTH IT.

    My friend and I stumbled upon this gem while strolling through Skagway and we couldn't believe our eyes. Indian curry in Alaska? We were intrigued and ventured in to see what it was all about. We hit the jackpot. Score! 100% deliciousness. I had the tikka masala at spiciness level 8 out of 10 and my friend had butter chicken at level 3. The chicken was tender and the curry flavors were spot on. Our meals came with a side of rice and we ordered plain naan on the side. I'd skip the naan next time since it's just basic flatbread and not fluffy and chewy like I'm used to having. The masala chai is also deliciously fragrant and not to be missed. I only wished I had time to try the mango lassi and other dishes. If I lived in Skagway this place would be my regular hangout. The place is small but colorful and the lady (owner?) is nice. A bright welcoming respite from boring cruise ship fare and a highlight of my day.

    We sailed into Skagway on Norwegian Pearl, so of course we were desperate to find a decent spot for lunch off the ship. (Ooo, burn. But that's another review.) We spied Bombay Curry as our shuttle drove through town in the morning on the way to a tour. "Did you see that?!" I asked my husband. "What?" "An Indian restaurant!" "NO WAY." For the rest of the morning, especially during our ride on the White Pass railroad, we found the conversation returning to our lunch plans. "Indian food in Alaska? Will it be any good?" Mike and I are both big fans of Indian cuisine. We have our fave-and-frequented spots in our two hometowns of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Perth, Australia, and when we travel we always seek out the Indian options. So, even though we both love all forms of Indian cuisine, we are also spoiled enough to set the bar a little higher than average. We tend to seek out the creamy dishes (makhanis, masalas) with spices that have a layered subtlety to them instead of just one-note blasts of taste or heat. And as an indulgent vegetarian, I'm dismayed if I don't find paneer on the menu. (Or if the only paneer dish is spinachy palak or saag.) We crossed our fingers and stepped into the little dining spot just off the main drag. "Well, it *smells* great," Mike said. The waitress gave us paper menus, and we reluctantly dragged our eyes away from the many exciting dishes on the "Dinner" side to contemplate our lunch options. "Hmmm, I can't tell from the description if the 'Bombay paneer' actually has a sauce." "Ditto on the 'Bombay chicken," Mike agreed. We were a little dismayed by the generic "Bombay (name a protein)" descriptions on the lunch menu, but the friendly waitress assured us that all of these were served with sauce, so we decided to stay and try it. (Note that the Bombay paneer was the only vegetarian option for lunch.) We also ordered a mix of plain and garlic naan. "And could we get a couple of samosas from the case?" Mike asked, gesturing to the area by the counter. Samosas weren't on the lunch menu, so we weren't certain if they were being saved for dinner patrons, but again the waitress was agreeable. "Sure!" The samosas were tall and crisp and oh-so fragrant. "Kamal Palace?" Mike asked me, shorthand for our favourite place for samosas in Southern California. "Getting there. Definitely." We were already glad we came. Then the naan arrived. "That is some of the best-looking naan I've ever seen." (See my photos.) Buttery, soft, flavourful... and the garlic pieces weren't acrid at all, as they can be. "And it's delicious, too." And now our happy moods flickered with sadness, knowing we'd have to eat ship food again for lunch tomorrow. Finally, our curries came out on divided Stryofoam-style plates. I gave both the plate and the plain-looking rice a skeptical glance. I'm such a snob, but luckily I'm an open-minded one because, shazam!, another high-five in the nom-nom-da-bombdiggity department! This was Alaska. You know, *Alaska*, where it's all about the seafood. And we were in a town catering to daytripping tourists, which is usually a call to arms for the mediocre in an attempt to please everyone. Who expected to get such delicious Indian here? And I definitely didn't expect to have to keep wiping my nose as the heat of the food opened my sinuses. (I usually order "7" on the 1-to-10 scale of heat, so I'm not exactly a wuss.) Not complaining, just amazed that the chef was willing to be so bold. We spoke with what seemed to be the owner/manager just before leaving. He was quite nice and eager to make sure we'd enjoyed the meal. So, if you don't like your food so hot, or want it hotter, or have any other requests, I don't think it would be any problem to ask. Judging by the number of locals dining there, the people of Skagway know good Indian. The lunch menu may be small, but the food is tasty by any standard and service is friendly. The next time we visit Skagway, it will be on another cruise line with better food, but we'll still look forward to leaving room for a meal at Bombay Curry.

    My Vegan Review: Out here visiting Alaska and Vegan eating has been very limited. Found this little store/ restaurant. Self serve all you can eat in a container for $12. Really was good to eat a Hearty Vegan meal out here.

    Had this place bookmarked, since I knew I'd be sick of ship food (the definition of "meh"), and the handful of reviews here were positive. I'm not sure if they changed owners/chefs or what, but my experience didn't really match up with earlier reviewers. Had the butter chicken with rice lunch special, along with a side of naan (who doesn't like naan?). The butter chicken was good flavor-wise, though they were a bit skimpy on the actual chicken. I think the rice was re-heated (heard a microwave going off after I ordered), and proportion-wise wasn't enough for the amount of sauce it came with. The naan was nothing like the naan pic Shari S. posted, which is what I expected and looks like the naan I'm used to, at least around SF; soft, chewy, and with the nice bubbly toasted bits. If you look at the naan in my pic, it's more bread-y, like the ones I've seen in supermarkets. The cost - $20 for butter chicken w/rice, plus naan. I get that it's decent Indian food in a small remote town in Alaska, and there's probably some markup for us tourists, but really? $20? Especially at lunch? Someone else mentioned it used to be about $11 for a curry+rice lunch a few years ago. WTF?

    One of the best hidden gems in Skagway! It's a weekly staple. Butter chicken and Tikki Masala are excellent. Don't forget the garlic naan!
