Woadie's was such a great find! We ordered the salmon poke bowl, halibut fish & chips, and oysters, and everything was incredibly fresh. The salmon in the poke bowl was the standout for me. It was so fresh, silky, and practically melted in your mouth. All of the ingredients in the bowl tasted fresh and came together perfectly. The halibut fish & chips were delicious too! The batter was perfectly crunchy while the inside stayed soft and flaky, and you could really taste how fresh the halibut was. Even the fries were really good and well seasoned. The oysters were also super fresh and did not disappoint. I definitely recommend Woadie's over some of the busier restaurants in the area. The atmosphere is casual and unique--the building is open-air with no walls, so you get plenty of fresh air while still having shade overhead. After reading the Yelp reviews and seeing the photos, I decided to give this place a try. Our excursion guide had recommended another restaurant, but the food here looked much more appealing and the reviews were stronger. It also appeared to be a newer restaurant, which caught my attention. After dropping my things off at the cruise ship, I walked from the Broadway Dock to the corner of 4th and State Street. The walk took about 10 minutes and was very easy as it was mostly a straight shot past shops and other businesses. The restaurant is located next to a food truck that I had also seen reviews for. I wasn't entirely sure if they were affiliated, but they're right next to each other. The restaurant itself is in a small house-style building where you order at the counter. There is an enclosed seating area with curtains and heaters, as well as an outdoor patio with picnic-table seating. It was a beautiful day, so the heaters weren't really needed, but it was nice to have the option. I ordered the smoked salmon dip and the halibut sandwich. The salmon dip was decent, but not my favorite. It had a nice smoky flavor, but it was a little dry for my taste. The day before, I had salmon dip during our glacier excursion that was much creamier, almost like a salmon salad with a hint of Old Bay seasoning, served with Ritz crackers. That version set a high bar. Here, the dip was served with cracker-style chips, which I didn't enjoy quite as much, and the texture wasn't as creamy as I prefer. The halibut sandwich, however, was excellent. The fish was fresh, lightly breaded with panko, and fried perfectly. It was served on fresh French bread that held up well without becoming soggy. The sandwich included a vinegar-based slaw with fresh cabbage, oregano, and tartar sauce, all of which complemented the fish beautifully. The halibut was mild and flavorful. I wasn't even sure I liked halibut before this meal, but I suspect I've never had it this fresh. It completely changed my opinion. My only criticism is the portion size. The piece of halibut was fairly small, and at around $27, it felt a bit pricey. That said, seafood is expensive, and being right off a cruise port, I wasn't expecting bargain pricing. The quality was definitely there. The fries were also very good...crispy, well-seasoned, and a great side to the sandwich. Overall, I left satisfied, though not overly full. The food was fresh, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the location was convenient for cruise passengers. I would absolutely recommend this spot and would seek it out again if I return on another Alaska cruise. read more

Really good Alaskan King crab! It was meaty and juicy, not really needing any butter. But they give you plenty of butter for those who want to indulge. The cluster of legs we got came with potato salad and Cole slaw. The slaw was a little too tangy for my liking, and the potato salad was just okay. The fries were crispy and good! But the crab is the star and it was really good! They offer different types of crab at various prices. Service is fine. We visited Woadies while in Skagway during our Alaska cruise after it was recommended by our tour guide. Unfortunately, what should have been a great lunch ended up being one of the most disappointing experiences of our trip. We arrived around lunchtime, and there was a wait for a table. There wasn't anywhere to stand or sit while waiting, and many of the tables were occupied by people who appeared to be lingering after their meals. While we waited, my 11-year-old son sat quietly on a railing. Instead of simply asking him to get down, an employee came over, grabbed him, pulled him off the railing, and yelled, "This is a restaurant, not a playground." My son had been doing nothing more than sitting while we waited, and he absolutely would have gotten down immediately if someone had asked. Instead, he was startled, embarrassed, and began crying. When I told the employee his actions were completely unnecessary, I received what felt like a very insincere apology. He explained that it was a liability issue, that people sit there all the time, and that it was "easier to pull people off than ask them." That explanation only made the situation worse. There is never a reason to put your hands on someone else's child when a simple, respectful request would have accomplished the same thing. Throughout the rest of our visit, this same employee continued making loud, obnoxious comments to other guests, which reinforced the impression that this wasn't just a momentary lapse in judgment. One unpleasant interaction can completely change the memory of an otherwise wonderful vacation, and unfortunately, that's exactly what happened here. I understand the need to enforce safety rules, but there is a respectful and professional way to do so. Until the staff are trained to treat guests--and especially children--with kindness and dignity, I would recommend choosing one of the many other restaurants in Skagway. read more

When we visited the area, we were informed that this was a really good spot to visit. It was not a disappointment at all. Our ship stopped here and we were able to walk around the town. This one is a longer walk away from the tourist trap of the main city. They do have taxi's that don't cost much to get you around if needed. The Poki bowl was absolutely amazing. The salmon was so fresh and delicious. The fried salmon I had was awesome as well and very flavorful. This is a rustic outdoor eatery only. Seating can be crowded if arriving at a rush our time frame fro lunch or dinner. It's well worth it. They also have local beers and ciders that they serve in some amazing glasses. You have to purchase the glasses if you want to take them home. They sale the glasses, shirts, stickers, etc at the shop. Great location to warm the soul with some smoked salmon chowder and some Alaskan oysters. The location is a short walk from Broadway St and the main street of Skegway near the grocery store in town. The chowder was hearty and flavorful cream based soup with potatoes, onions and garlic. The oysters were cleaned well with a great flavor and salty brine. Usually I do oysters with different condiments but these oysters don't need anything than a squeeze of lemon. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was so unacceptable that I feel others should know. We visited Woadie's in Skagway with a group of about 20 people. Before anyone even ordered food, we tried to organize ourselves by placing our backpacks near some tables while members of our group went to get food. From the moment we arrived, the employee who approached us had a hostile attitude. Without asking, he started moving our personal belongings himself instead of simply explaining their policy. When we tried to talk with him, his behavior became increasingly aggressive. The most shocking part was when he got loud, got in my dad's face, and yelled, "Do not f***ing move the tables." Hearing an employee use that kind of language toward a customer--especially in front of a large group and families--was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. We were planning to spend a significant amount of money there with our entire group, but after being treated with such disrespect, we chose not to. Customer service should never involve yelling, intimidation, or profanity directed at guests. I hope management addresses this behavior because no customer should be treated this way. We tried this place for lunch recently and had a great experience. The king crab leg and full Dungeness crab were excellent. The Dungeness crab comes with fries. My daughter enjoyed her corn dog and fries. My wife enjoyed the poke bowl. If you like cream soda, I recommend trying theirs. Not a lot of places have it on their menu, but their cream soda is some of the best I've had. The food was great. The outside seating was comfortable. And you will be rubbing elbows with strangers so don't be shy or picky! The tables do also get messy so do try to be patient with a new patron cleaning up their spot next to you. Twice I missed my window thinking I could walk up as I seen someone walk out. Nope. Just stand there and wait. Even if you get a little damp from the rain. I didn't see or maybe we had to ask for condiments to dip our fries, but they were fine plain. The potato salad he also loved but for me it tasted a little like the store bought kind. The halibut ceviche was outstanding! The chips, not so much. My palate was ready for a homemade tortilla chips. The kind I make at home. But it was more like pastry dough. They were good, don't get me wrong. But to me, did not pair well with the ceviche. Personal preference, I'm sure. And I did end up eating quite a few of them. Now the star of the show was definitely the King Crab. Wow!!!!! A little salty and packed with flavor! Melted butter on the side and they give you kitchen shears which did come in handy. Outside tables are protected with a roof and plastic sheeting, but no indoor seating! We had the fried halibut. It came in a basket. This batter is crunchy and kind of thick. Several small fish nuggets, not a large piece of fish. It was a little overcooked, but not inedible. Honestly, I've had better fish. Really wanted other items on the menu, but they were sold out of all of the crab and oysters. Bummer. Salmon dip is pretty tasty. I loved the cracker chips they served with it. I did some research for what was not the Red Onion Saloon or the Skagway Brewing Company which are the most popular. Woadies came up several times and so we had to try it. The line was long but it moved quickly. Sadly two people ahead of us got the last bowl of chowder, which was very popular. But we got one King Crab leg, the potato salad and a friend salmon sandwich. It was all delicious. The service was beyond friendly. Hubby is always good about asking the locals their recommendations and more than one said Woadies as the place to go further lunch. As one said "their food is cheaper and it tastes better".
