This is a solid Indian buffet; I've thoroughly enjoyed the 5 or 6 occasions I've stopped by for lunch. The tikka is one of the better ones I've sampled, and they do a decent job of keeping it stocked (those in the know are aware that this can be an issue). There is a moderate selection of additional dishes, both veggie and chicken/lamb, most of which are modestly spicy, and there is usually a pepper curry chicken that is geared towards the more daring (I count myself amongst this number). The pricing is very reasonable, and the waitstaff go far and above to make certain water and drinks are topped off; they are constantly attentive to even the smallest concern (for example, if they are getting low on tikka, they will reassure you that more is on the way etc.). Overall, a welcome choice for Indian food in Northampton (my one experience with the other Indian place in town was disappointing in terms of both food and value). read more

Wow. Lunch is buffet-style and I enjoyed everything. Until now, my experience with Indian food is pretty much limited to Tikka Masala TV dinners from Trader Joes. My husband and my favorite Indian restaurant in town! Everything they make is fab. The mango curry is our favorite (forgot the actual name) and all their dishes are wonderful. Went here for lunch. Great little spot with ample parking. Restraint was clean with a decent assortment of food on the buffet. They had all the staples but a few unique but tasty meals as well. We ordered so much food because we couldn't narrow down our choices. 4 of us and we had a shmorgus board of plates! Lamb rogan josh, chicken korma, palak paneer, lamb kebob masala... Onion naan, honey paratha... We rolled out of there! We missed the weekend lunch buffet but if we get back to that area, we will make it a priority! Went here because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews, but was sorely disappointed. It was a fairly busy weekend lunch buffet. There were dirty plates awaiting us once we got through the line. The chicken masala was dry and the nan was not fully cooked. Food was overall under-seasoned and bland. We were never offered beverage service (I probably would've ordered a mango lassi, if asked). For the price, the paper on top of the wrinkled table cloth was unexpected. Worst part - hair in the yogurt sauce AND in the rice pudding. We came here because of the other good reviews and our son wanted tikka masala chicken. He thought it was the best rendition he'd ever had. I got the tamarind eggplant which was fabulous. We had two other chicken dishes which were also among the best we've had. The seasoning choices are subtle and clever. Mango lassi on the sweet side which was just fine with the kids. I've come here both for weekday buffet lunch and dinners. I love it with a couple minor issues! I've been looking for a good Indian buffet and their price of $9.99 during weekdays is great! I love the atmosphere (you forget you're in the bus station!) and the tablecloths. I warn you, spicy means spicy! But it's all good! I'm glad they don't water down their spices! Service was pretty attentive. I love that they serve poppadom; the crisp, thin, salty bread whets the appetite for what's to come. Their naan is amazing--soft, chewy! My husband was not a huge fan of their chicken vindaloo, thinking it was too vinegary and chicken too rubbery. But I honestly didn't have an issue with my dishes. My only gripe is their rice pudding... It is wayyy too watered down for my tastes. I know some places make it watery, but I've never had it this watered down. They need to put more rice in it and thicken it a bit. Overall though, this place is great! read more

I decided to try Indian food the other day and after having Bombay Royale I cannot wait to go back. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful when I called and asked what they recommended for my first time eating indian food. I ended up having the lamb korma and it was spectacular. We ordered lamb pall, which has a smoky spicyness, chicken tikka masala which is sweet on the nose and the the chicken korma, which was the order that should have been the vegi korma that we wanted. I came to Bombay Royale for their Saturday lunch buffet, because I had found out about it, and read good things about it, on Yelp. Wow, was I not disappointed! Their lunch buffet is probably larger and better than most other Indian restaurants' dinner buffets and at the same or a better price. Pakoras were simplified and generally replaced with an assortment of sauces, cold dishes, and chutneys. There was a wide variety of meat and meatless dishes, including a tandoori vegetables offering and a grilled meat platter. Naan was delivered hot to the table, but it was thin and slightly chewy. There were at least four different types of dessert. Their gulab jamun has a hint of cinnamon in it as well. We got there for lunch about 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Within 20 minutes, the waiting line for a table was extending out the door. Word has evidently gotten out about Bombay Royale, and deservedly so. read more

Good food with a lot of variety. They have an extensive menu, including a large vegan section, which is great. They offer both north and South Indian dishes. Overall, they have pretty standard dishes like Chana masala, okra masala, aloo gobi, etc, but the quality is a bit better than other Indian restaurants I've tried in the Northeast. The one issue with our visit was that they did not have a table ready for us initially, even though we called ahead of time for a reservation. read more

Bombay Royale has most mediocre Indian food I've had in the northeast. Ordered the palak paneer and shrimp bagari. The palak just tasted like unseasoned cream spinach with no depth of flavor. The bagari was excessively sweet, and tasted almost as if it were made with ketchup. The naan lacked the crispy lightness a good naan should. Agree with google reviewers who say that the counter guy is very rude. Asked for medium spicy food for take out and they give me super spicy food that we could not eat. On calling them, they hung my call and didn't call back. When I called again they said "dude, stop was wasting our time" and didn't bother returning my call. We ordered the vegetarian entrees one of them was Veg Aamwala the server described this as sweet in taste which we were aware because it is cooked in mango sauce instead it was extremely spicy the other two entrees were also extremely spicy and none of us could eat it. The madras tiffin (vegan South Indian appetizer combo) is one of the best things I've eaten in my life. My 10 year old said, "can I live here now?" The rest of the food we ordered also did not disappoint. And, it's not advertised on their website for some reason, but they do have a cordials license and a selection of local craft beers. Finally a good Indian buffet after never ending visits to restaurants. The DIY Pani Puri in the chat counter could be better organized. I didn't see many non Indian visitors trying it out. Chicken Korma, Chicken Makhani and a lot of other things that you wouldn't find in a South Indian restaurant are available for people too eat. Warning Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Phall are extremely spicy. Avoid these menu items if you can not handle that much spice. Was caught off guard by it when ordering. read more

On October 21 at about 1:00 I had lunch inside at BR for the first time since it reopened. The house Thali was wonderful, and reminiscent of the multiple options traditionally offered at the lunch buffet now on hold. Thali is offered to those who dine in. To-go lunch specials were being picked up by a steady stream of customers while I was there. The warm naan dipped in masala was heavenly and the Tandoori chicken breast was piping hot and beautifully seasoned. My server brought a side of my favorite tamarind sauce. All of the buffet favorites are included in the Thali. As usual the staff was so attentive and kind. As a Smith College alumna, I have loved Bombay Royale from my days as an undergraduate and enjoy bringing my friends and family here. A great spot for dinner! I went on a Sunday evening, so it was rather quiet. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and they have a good wine and beer list. I got the Paneer Masala with an order of garlic naan. Portions were generous and well presented, and the masala was one the tastiest I've had. The naan was soft and well seasoned. This was some of the best Indian food I've had in a loooooong time. Amazing prices, incredible food, very friendly people. We had the chicken tikka naan, tamarind eggplant, lamb chettinad, meen molee(salmon curry, sort of), and rasmalai. I live in an Indian food desert, and this oasis is worth the trip.
