I had a great experience at Bombay Spice II. We started with a rose flavored falooda with basil seeds which was creamy and delicious. For appetizers, I tried the chef's special vegetarian appetizer that came in a martini glass, such a fun and unique presentation, and the chicken 65 which was spicy, flavorful, and really well done. The sizzling prawns were amazing. The dosa was excellent, perfectly crispy and filled with spiced potatoes and topped with cheese. It came with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, spicy chutney, and sambar, the lentil vegetable soup that traditionally accompanies dosa. Everything paired really well together. We also ordered the curry chicken with garlic naan, which was rich and comforting. For dessert, I had mango ice cream served in mango purée with fresh fruit and dried fruit on top, a perfect way to end the meal. Great food, presentation, and overall experience. Stopped in as first timers around 2:15p to grab Kati Rolls and a snack for the road as we headed back home 30 min away. I had the Lasooni Paneer Roll and specified mild- and assorted pakora while my wife had a Chana Masala roll and asked for it spicy - and a vada pav for later. Our order was read to us to confirm and we even triple validated on the register screen. The order was prepared quickly (as we were the only ones there aside from a family leaving. I began with the pakora before we even got in the car and these were delicious. Crispy and no oily residue left on the fingers. It came with a green chutney but could have used a tamarind chutney. The rolls are split in half and wrapped individually. My wife said on her chana roll the flatbread itself was good but the stuffing was overly salty. It also wasn't spicy enough for her. As I opened my Paneer roll, I noted it was pretty sloppy- there were chunks of paneer outside of the wrap under the wax paper layer. Ok fine, as long as it tastes good. As I went to take a bite I noticed an unusual amount of chili flakes. Oh no, did they mix up the spice levels even though we triple checked? Yep. Inedible. Worst part was my wife tried it and said it was just chili flakes that they used and it didn't add or help the flavor just added heat. My family recently moved to the state and despite our love of Indian food, there are so many choices that we couldn't easily decide! We decided on this place as our first exposure to Indian food in NJ because they claim to cater to all diets and are accommodating for food allergies. My youngest has multiple food allergies including to wheat, eggs, and nuts. The family as a whole follows an allium-free vegetarian diet, so we usually request for Jain options (but potatoes are very much welcome). This restaurant takes up most of the moderately run down strip it's in and it's certainly located in an interesting spot. We had to turn left to get there and because that wasn't allowed, there's a roundabout way to actually get on that side. There's parking in the front and more around the back which was where we ended up parking. The place itself has got some character! I can't even pinpoint the theme they're going for but they seem to be popular and there were a number of tables during the time we were there on a Saturday night... mostly special occasions - a date, a celebration, large family gathering. They were aiming to be more than your casual Indian eatery. We were the only non-Indians there, which I found interesting. We told them we would like Jain options and food allergies were in play and our waiter was changed to someone who had more knowledge. Upon asking, we ended up getting: PALAK PANEER: he said they couldn't guarantee that it would be allergy free but our kid's go to is this so we ordered it. Both kids enjoyed it but would have loved it even more if it weren't so very spicy. Haha. I forgot to take a photo but this was a deep dark green, spicy, but a decent amount. Overall reasonable for the $20 price. My kid with the food allergies finished all the leftovers once home so though spicy, he still enjoyed it, but he can take spice. Note: the paneer is soft! I wonder if it's house made. MASALA DOSA: I forgot the full name of what we got... Mysore? But it was approved to be food allergy safe. The size of the dosa is impressive. It's perfectly crisp and the potato filling was quite nice and spicy. As expected. It came with 3 different chutneys. We placed it in front of the kid with multiple food allergies and LUCKILY the waiter stopped us before he tried them. Their tomato chutney contains peanuts. Oh. My. Goodness. Sadly, it was the only one my son looked remotely interested in. The adults thought it tasted good. My picky kid only really liked the dosa (she does NOT like spicy food). TANDOORI PANEER KATI ROLL: we had no idea what a Kati roll was but we were intrigued. Rather filling, simple, but quite good! Economically priced as well compared to other items. PANI PURI: I love Pani puri and this was my request. The presentation was over to top.. placed on a mini carriage and all. I really liked this but wish I got more because one of kids ate most of the puri. Haha. They perhaps could have done without the wheels but it was good. PLAIN NAAN: it's $3 for only one piece, by the way. Ouch. It's decent sized but my picky kid ate it in no time and wanted more. ROSE LASSI & MANGO LASSI: I found these overly sweet, artificially flavored, and in way-too-small glasses. They had some sort of syrup drizzled on the sides. For $8 each? Not worth it. Overall, it was a pleasant and surprising experience. I still remember when the panipuri came out. I wasn't expecting it (but someone ordered a pina colada and that came out in a beheaded pineapple so it's perhaps not as out there as I thought). It is on the pricier side. I haven't been to many Indian eateries in the area YET so I don't have a proper sample size to compare to yet so we'll see. Service wasn't bad. They tried, but clearly are used to Indian clientele. The food is definitely catered to locals which I enjoyed but I needed my napkins. Major points off for being "knowledgeable" about food allergies and their main dish that was promised to be allergen free appeared with a major allergen. BUT if no food allergies were in play, this place is fairly solid. Jain options were on the limited side but not terrible and we enjoyed what we had aside from the lassi. So.. 2 stars for the major oversight bumped up to a 3 because if that hadn't happened, I likely would have given them 4. We ordered two thaalis off the menu and got curries on it we didn't order despite asked for it to be changed twice both times it was wrong. I just came up by the time the third order was wrong. It felt like we got some left over food from someone elses dish because it took almost 2 hours to get. We had 10 people and so many orders were just wrong or off. We asked for spicy but nothing was. Beautiful decor here but sorry to say it doesn't feel clean and the food just doesn't hit. I was very excited to try this spot. We tried two kati rolls, the chicken tikka and paneer tikka. Something about the actual paratha they use was not tasty. I wish I remembered the name of the appetizer but there was some bright red sauce they used that ruined the overall dish. Presentation on pani puri was great, and pani puri was also good. The puris themselves were ok and the filling was a bit boring. As soon as I entered the location, I was amazed with the interior designs and asthetics. The ambience was very nice and an event was on in the next-door event hall. The pani puri came in a nice aesthetic cart and tasted as amazing. I also had a mughlai katti roll, which was surprisingly good. Falooda was our dessert. I remembered this dish from my trip to India and wanted to see how it matched vs back India since this place gave a very authentic and local vibe. Must say, didn't disappoint. We were driving up to NYC and wanted to stop by Edison, NJ for a nice Indian cuisine. Bombay spice was one of the first restaurants we saw on our way. From the outside, this place did not look very fancy. It seemed to be a quick in-and-out grab-and-go place, but entering the store is a completely different vibe. The decor is really nicely done. Also there is a part of the store where you can eat your food sitting down on the floor which I thought was quite a neat addition. The store is clean and well decorated. They took our order, and we asked which paneer dish was most popular, which they informed us was the saam savera. We also ordered one chole bature and one side of garlic naan. They ended up bringing out two orders of naan by mistake (but they did not overcharge us - yay). However, there was very little chole provided for so much bature (I am not a big fan of bad proportions when it comes to Indian food). Additionally, while both dishes were solid, the taste felt like it was missing something. I can't quite describe it. I was unable to taste the paneer in the saam severa, and the filling was quite hard to chew. The service was quick, rapid, and quite responsive. We finished our meal and were out of the restaurant within 40 minutes which was quite efficient. Overall, a solid and safe option for Indian Food. Right next to Route 27 with direct entry from the highway. Parking area is constrained but there are good number of parking spots around the restaurant. We visit usually on Thursdays and have always got a spot. Bombay/ Mumbai street food, Kaati Rolls (Wraps), Bombay Usal Pav, Vada Pav and Poona Misal Pav are the signature items on their menu. Do not miss the Sitaphal milkshake which is a seasonal specialty on their menu. Sizzlers and Chole Bature are mediocre in nature. Manchow soup is worth a try if you are need some hot liquid to start your game. Service has been reasonable. Food usually comes quick after ordering and usually all courses at a time. So pace your orders accordingly. Otherwise you will deal with lot of food in the table, all brought at a time. Once food is served, they usually forget about you. So, anything you need to be packed for home or if you need check, you may need to grab their attention. Otherwise you might have anywhere between 10-20 minutes wait time for the same. It is BYOB, some tables are low leveled and provide a different experience. They provide a wet wipe as soon as you enter. Water options - tap water and bottled. I found hair in the food on one occasion. So please check your food before consuming. I have reduced one start due to this fact. Otherwise this restaurant is a 4 starrer for me. They do a good job specially with Bombay and Maharashtra state (India) native food. Stopped by for lunch after doing some shopping in Edison and loved the food here! I tried the aloo papdi chaat and pani puri, both of which were delicious and well presented. Felt like that was a rip off for the price, it definitely looked great with the design and all but, I want my lassi in a tall glass, if anything it should be served in a beer glass . We came across Bombay Spice II and our tummies were grumbling so we made a quick decision to eat there! We arrived at about 5pm on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crowded at all. The restaurant itself was very nice and it had a sit down feel (different from the original Bombay Spice which is more of just a counter at a tiny food hall). The service was great and the waiters and waitresses were very friendly. Had an amazing experience at this place. They went above and beyond like a family would. We called ahead to check if they'd seat us (7 people coming in 15 mins before close). We had low expectations because most Indian restaurants would either say no or give us limited menu. They had us order ahead and had everything ready, waited 30 extra mins for us to finish eating after their closing time and gave us the best experience! We loved their setup- the way the food came, their decor and their music. The food was soooo delicious!! We tried their pani puri (delicious but their pani could've been a bit more diluted. It tasted saltier than I like), masala papad was ok (glad we tried it but maybe wouldn't order again), laziz gosht biryani (I didn't try it but family did and said it was good), chicken Kati roll (family said was good), chicken 65 was SOOOO good (probably one of our favs), murgh makhan waala was the STAR DISH, munchurian noodles were alright. We order onion kulcha and garlic naan and they were both really good but common- it's naan lol. Their masala soda is a must try!! Also had their baraf ka gola (TOO GOOD) and their mango mastani dessert which the family loved so much that they downed it even after being so full. Overall such a great experience. We constantly had people checking in on us (even though it was after hours) to make we were ok and didn't need anything else and were so polite to bring anything we did ask for.
