I recently had the pleasure of dining at Zaika BBQ and Grill, thanks to a couple of friends who took us there for lunch during our visit. We started with the spring rolls as appetizers, which were a great start to the meal. For the main course, we enjoyed a variety of dishes: chicken biryani, chicken karahi, and chicken kabobs. We also had three different flavors of naan. Although I frequently eat naan, this was my first time trying sesame naan, and it was incredibly delicious! Out of everything, the karahi stood out as my favorite--it was super tasty and full of flavor. To finish off the meal, we indulged in Gulab Jamun for dessert, accompanied by Peshawari Kahwa Chai. I've been coming here since they were at there small location by Clara Barton and I was so happy to see this business upgrade to a larger space. The food is always fresh and consistently reliable with spice and delicious flavors. They have a very large dining area that looks like it can accommodate large groups and events. And the staff and owner are always attentive. I usually get the Combo platters because you get a little of everything: salad, Naan, Chicken Biryani, and a choice of 2 meats. Picked up some pretty good food from Zaika. We had the chicken cheese kebabs, chicken Patties, chicken Chapli, and naan. The naan is ginormous, each the size of a dinner plate. Roasted to perfection - soft and chewy too. The chicken cheese kebabs and chicken Patties are made of ground chicken and spices, but seasoned differently. I thought they would both taste the same but that wasn't the case. Both were seasoned well and comes with yogurt mint sauce- refreshing to the palate amidst the shower of spices. It also comes with cilantro and onion as garnishes. The chicken chapli was served with chicken thighs and breast and marinated well. It comes with a thicker sauce and garnished with onions as well. The last time I visited this restaurant it was located at another location on Amboy Avenue, which was much smaller. I was very surprised to see how large the dining room in the current location. You could easily host a large event at this restaurant with enough seating for 100 guests and more. The food is still as good as I remembered. I ordered the Punjabi Saag with Garlic Naan, as well as Vegetable Samosa. My friend ordered the lentil saag and veggie pakora. I haven't had Zaika since they've changed locations (it's been a while). I decided to order a few things and pick up. I ordered butter chicken with white rice, vegetable samosa chaat and the beghare began (eggplant). Everything had good flavor. The rice had portions that was cold for whatever reason. Aside from that, food is good. Not the warmest welcome when I walked through the door would be my only critique. Went at about 1:30pm on Sunday. Place was empty and we were disappointed to hear that the buffet doesn't take place until 6pm (until 9pm). -service: okay. Was entertained and surprised to see a robotic busboy (a machine that brought our food from the kitchen on a tray. Picture included). The waiter than would come and place the dishes from the trays onto our table. -mutton biriyanj: good flavor, nice little spicy kick. -lamb bbq platter: delicious. Would have preferred more if a different meat. Than to have small lamb chops but that's a personal preference. Overall the food was very food. I can't believe the experience I had. I normally write good reviews but this one was is worth mentioning on the negative side. My 16 year old son could not pick out what to eat since the descriptions were lacking details on the ingredients and spices. Instead they have descriptions like mouth watering chickens and intoxicating lambs etc. so he asked the waiter that mans the reception. This is a long overdue review! I was visiting New York earlier this year and wanted to take my parents to an authentic Pakistani restaurant. I came across Zaiqa's name on a couple of Facebook posts and after going through the good reviews on Yelp, I decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad I did. We got the mix grill, brain masala, and chaat and everything - and I'm not exaggerating - everything was so good! I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and we have good desi food here too but rarely do restaurants have brain masala as a regular part of their menu here. So when I saw it on Zaiqa's menu I had to order it. Other than the brain masala that my mom makes, this was the best one I've had ever (and I'm originally from Karachi so that's saying something, iykyk). The garam garam naans were the perfect pairing with the bbq and curry. Not only was the food perfect but the restaurant itself was clean, spacious, nicely set up and the staff, from the owner to the servers, were all kind and jovial. There was even a space for us to pray, Alhamdulillah. If I'm ever in the area again I'm definitely stopping at Zaiqa! read more

I came to this location as I wanted to go out to eat on a Friday night but also something new. In the group I was in, something halal was a consideration which Zaika fulfilled both of those. The food was up to taste for whether or not you like it. Some items were really good and spiced well, others were strange if you are used to south asian food. My group had pani puri as an appetizer which is a dish you pour a flavored water into. The taste of the water reminded me of a batch ive had somewhere else where they followed a recipe and made it great in the beginning but overtime you keep adding water and not more flavored ingredients so that it extends the quantity you can give out. The problem this batch had before was that, they just kept adding more water without tasting the mixture to see how much it was diluted. The flavored water at Zaika reminded me of that so I imagine something similar happened. On top of that, there was a chicken korma that we could not remember if we ordered. My party thought they ordered goat but when the order came, we couldnt tell if the waiter misheard or if we actually did say chicken. Chicken is fine so we didnt make a big deal about it but it just was not that enjoyable, it was almost sweet to me which was not what i like. I did order a lamb masala and it was very good. Both the lamb and chicken were very soft and just broke apart very easily. The service was straight forward, they took our order, someone was walking around checking on tables without being too much. I found it odd that we were coming close to the end of our meal and the waiter asked if he can take our sauce bottles. He sounded a bit hasty and it was coming close to the last 10 minutes of being there so I said yes but it was strange. There was not a full restaurant, maybe 3 families and a group had a larger party for an event. I don't usually take note of ambience as I am used to noisier environments but this was pleasant. They had music playing that really did suit a Pakistani restaurant. I felt spaced out enough where I did not hear customers at other tables. The seating is either booths or nice dining room tables and chairs. I think it is a place to come back to and bring other people to. Especially if you are trying to show others what south asian food is like. Came here for lunch and so happy to find they were also running a Yelp discount. I'd be happy to come back even without the discount. Everything was priced fairly and food and service were great, even with a few hiccups they saved themselves to receive 5 stars which I rarely give out. To hit the $20 minimum we ordered a chicken kathi roll, a vegetarian special, and two chai. The meals were good and came out promptly but we found some of the rice a bit cold - we can tell everything was reheated since the cooks arrived a few minutes after opening at 11AM since we were told we had to wait 10-15 minutes for the cook to arrive. The food was plentiful for us including the naan but was pleasantly surprised and happy to find the waitress brought out a steaming hot pan of rice after we shared our concern. I also found interesting while ordering is that there was no indication or question on spice level but it still had good seasonings and a kick to the food. Perfect amount of spice without being too overwhelming spicy. Hands down the best aloo gobi I've had in awhile and the paneer tiki masala stood up to my standards though it only had a few chunks of paneer. Just be mindful the portions are not huge but it really filled me up. Regarding the drinks, I was a bit disappointed since I asked for the tea twice but at the very end when we wrapped up our meal another waiter checked in and I asked for it for the third time in which it finally came out. I normally opt out from sugar but I added two full packets so I can truly enjoy an authentic chai. However, I felt the chai here lacks in some type of spice or flavor that I usually have at other restaurants. Still I was happy to get my kick of non coffee caffeinated drink. I feel this post pointed out the flaws but I will say the service helped save them as well as the amazing food. I can't wait to come back and try other Pakistani foods on the menu!! Decided to have a spontaneous Friday night with some good friends and this was the place to go. When you walk in, the restaurant is actually beautiful with chandeliers and very comfortable seating. We were very hungry and ordered 2 orders of vegetable samosas and 1 order of chicken samosas. The samosas were great and especially delicious with the raita. For the main course, we ordered beef behari kabab and chicken 65 from the grill, zaika chicken mixed grill, butter chicken and goat brain curry. Personally, brain is not a go-to choice of mine, but my friends loved it. We also ordered a lot of naan. Everything was delicious, but my personal favorite was the chicken 65. The beef behari kabab was not as spicy as I normally prefer, but I am sure you can ask for extra spice. Otherwise, it was tender and melted in my mouth. Overall, the service was great and for the area, the food was very fresh and delicious. There is a lot of fast food desi places in the area, but this place really does a great job with their dishes. We went in on a Sunday late afternoon as a party of 3. We were not greeted and we're immediately directed to our seats and told to scan the qr on the table. It ttok forever to flag down a waiter even though there was 9 people on the floor and the restaurant was basically empty. We had questions about the menu but it seemed like no one was willing to help. Another couple had come and a waiter greeted them and seated with menus and explained all their questions. The inconsistent customer service is sad. Yelp had given a coupon to use in which I had asked a staff if we're able to use it at our current visit. Took them a while to figure out as everyone seemed clueless. In the end the coupon worked out. We ordered our food using the qr which had required us to input our card number before we can place and order. I had found that odd as we've been to restaurants who us qr codes for menus but ordering and paying as if I'm getting take out during a sit down meal felt odd. Our food was delivered by a robot which is cool. To our surprise (since no one answered our menu questions) the combination platter was quite small, we had expected family style since it said platter. Their Naan was fresh, hot and tasty which is appreciated and all the meat was tender and flavorful. Food was great other than the dessert in which got gajar Ka halwa. The halwa had a fermented taste which doesn't go with gajar Ka halwa. We flagged done a person 6-7 times to get take out containers, paid and left. A person came running after us after we paid and got in the car to make sure we hit redeem on our coupon, I would have appreciated if they did this while taking payment (which they didn't, we had to pay during order) or while we stopped at the counter to make sure payment was received. Food wise I would recommend but not for customer service. Go in during busy times and maybe you'll get better service than we did during lunch time on a Sunday. read more
