This was my first time trying Indian food and Bombolé completely impressed me. The Indian-Latin fusion flavors were incredible and everything tasted fresh and well balanced. The staff was amazing, so friendly and helpful, answering all my questions and making great recommendations. I ordered everything they suggested and they were absolutely right. The cilantro lime sauce is a must try, it really is the cherry on top. I usually don't like lemonades, but the carrot and mango lemonade was surprisingly delicious. The basmati rice was perfectly cooked, fluffy and flavorful, and the black beans were so good. The empanadas were amazing, especially the paneer. The ambiance was welcoming, clean, and cute. Thrilled to try a "new" place. Come to find out it's been there for around 7 years. New to me. This place is a fusion of Indian and Latin cuisines. I love creative cuisine. The combination of great foods is usually quite good and brings forth the best of both. The dishes here do not disappoint. You get dishes mixing both cuisines. For instance the Chicken Chipotle bowl I ordered. It has the Latin influence of chipotle served with Indian inspired lentils. It was quite tasty. We also tried the chicken Tikka masala with black beans. They have empanadas filled with a variety of savory options and a couple of sweet options. There's Vegan entrees as well as empanadas. I liked that they also have gluten free options. There's a choice of beverages. Lemonades and teas. I love chai tea and so chose to have that. Sadly either I was given the wrong tea or it's the worst chai tea I've encountered. It had almost zero flavor and tasted close to black tea. Perhaps the lemonades would've been a better choice. The meal was nice. The restaurant cozy and clean with a nice patio out front. Street parking only. So ride your bike, walk or be aware it is metered parking. I was recently at the Better Business Bureau office in downtown Tucson with my coworkers and I had to make a stop at Bombolé! Thanks to Yelp Tucson events I was introduced to this restaurant and will always be a fan of the chicken empanadas and the dessert banana Nutella empanadas. It is so weird that for many years I have not even thought about trying Bombole. I just forget and since they are in the Pioneer Building and not on Broadway or Congress it is easy to miss. Parking is metered or garages. Many public garages will give an hour free, check ahead. Bombole is a Latin and Indian fusion food place with a healthy focus on Empanadas, vegan and gluten free. Light salads and lemonades are also a focus. Now that this wonderful cafe with outdoor seating is on my radar, I've been 3 times in last month. My go to is the Bombo Combo, pick an empanada, pick a salad and a drink for a great price. People are friendly and welcoming. They will help you choose and assist with your questions. Food is great, tasty and quick. Their main line is a cafeteria line with empanada, salads and drinks. You can order cooked food like chicken masala, chicken tika, chickpeas, rice, lentil, Creamy Lemony Pork Bowl and tamales. Dessert options are also available. Not expensive. Seating is limited inside and out. A nice experience and you have to try to understand how special it is! read more

The food here is super flavorful. I had lunch here again today and keep meaning to write a review. I like the combo that includes an empanada and two sides and a drink (different flavored iced teas or lemonades). It's a good amount of food for $12.60. I love the spinach and mushroom empanada - the empanada dough is always perfectly cooked. I have a hard time deciding between the sides but I love the cabbage salad, which is tangy and crisp and the curried lentils are delicious. We stopped in today while walking around downtown Tucson something we had not done in some time regrettably as we had a nice time. Visited Bombole and realized we made a mistake. There were 5 different varieties of empanadas ready and fresh when we walked in. We purchased all 5 types for the 2 of us. My wife is not speaking to me at this point as we should have purchased 2 of each type... or 10 total for 2 people... I've been twice in the last month. I don't know how they stay in business by only charging 12.50 for the best lunch in town! For that price, the combo plate, you get one empanada, 2 sides and a huge ice tea or lemonade. The empanadas are so delicious, and plenty for vegetarians to chose from. I would recommend the 2 salad optional for sides, as they are fresh, interesting, and delicious. One is mango jimica, the other is a fantastic slaw. Great place for a quick and yummy lunch. We were intrigued by the Indian and Honduran combo. Basically it means your tasty favorites from both offered in one place! You can get a tamale and an empanada and chicken tikka and dal, all at once. The tamales were nice and fluffy, and everything was nicely seasoned. The one nitpick I have is that the charge for extra sauce should get you more than a tiny thimbleful. I wanted to love this place. Not what I expected...the empanadas look fabulous, but I went for a dosa, expecting more of a crepe. It's more like a burrito, wrapped in (and stuck to) paper with filling that fell apart. Flavor was subtle but good; potatoes in samosa filling a little undercooked and seemed like they had been sitting for a bit. Peas were fresh. Also had some black beans, which were undistinguished. The sauces were good but not great. My companion thoroughly enjoyed the empanada and I wish I had tried one. One dosa was okay for me for lunch, but anyone with an appetite would want more. I just discovered this downtown gem with modern decor, and a truly seductive aroma. I defy anyone who enters to leave without at least one of the paneer and pea Indian spiced empanadas! The pastry was exceptional, and they're generously filled. Counter service, which was nice. I noticed they also serve curry bowls. I will admit, I popped in out of curiosity more than genuine hunger, but it smelled "proper", and I couldn't resist. I truly feel that the $6/ea for the empanadas is very reasonable given the size and the quality, and I can safely say that I will be returning. read more

Stopped by on an early Saturday afternoon. Downtown was largely deserted and there was one other family dining. The owner/host was bubbly and very helpful with information about everything on display. We opted for a shredded chicken empanada and a "bowl." Both were excellent. I was surprised by how stuffed the empanada was with shredded meat. The shell is not too thick and also kind of flaky and buttery (in that respect, quite different than a Mexican empanada). The bowl had a delicious mix with the cubed pork on one side and the lentil "side" on the other - both sitting atop a small bed of rice. They were served within about 5-7 minutes of ordering and were warmed just right. Above average plastic ware accompanied the meal. Bathrooms are located offsite, through the main office building lobby and up a ramp/hallway. Key required. Parking at a street meter was easy on this weekend afternoon (and free) but could be very tight during the week with surrounding businesses open M-F. read more

So good. So so good. I've had this place in my bookmarked spots I'd eventually visit & it finally happened! I've put it off because parking downtown is never fun but I went on a Saturday afternoon when downtown was a ghost town & I easily found street parking. I got some stuff to take home and share with friends and I appreciated the sturdy packaging that kept everything intact. We got a mango & cheese empanada and a guava and cheese one. The empanadas' dough was buttery and flaky but not greasy. Mango was a little over-browned but not enough to affect the fantastic flavor. We did reheat the guava and cheese leftovers the next day and it reheated beautifully in the toaster oven. The cheese in the mango was really tasty but save for a couple of bites, I couldn't really taste the mango. A few more chunks of fruit would've enhanced the mango flavor. For savoury, we went with the paneer, the pork, the spinach/feta, & the beef. Our least favorite was beef. The beef is shredded very thinly and mixed with some other stuff so it resembles a sloppy joe a bit. It was okay but not memorable in any way. It could have just as easily have been chicken. Our favorite was surprisingly the paneer. I'm not a fan of peas but the flavor of the whole filling with that flaky empanada shell was just perfection. The pork had a strong but not overpowering curry taste and it was also a hit with everyone. Again the pork was more shredded than chunky. Spinach and feta was also highly rated by everyone. Having made empanadas before, what I really appreciate is not only how delicious the fillings were but also how moist they remained while making sure the whole empanada dough was well baked. No raw bits or leaks at all, which is impressive to me! We also got the two slaw sides but were pretty underwhelmed by both the portion size and flavors. We'd stick to ordering more empanadas next time and there will definitely be a next time! read more

Wow! What a delightfully quaint little gem! Thanks to my fellow Yelpers -- I saw this & I could not wait to partake! I'll tell you I'm almost vegan (an occasional digression of Greek yogurt or cheese); Yet being a vegetarian or vegan here is no problem with quite a few options. My partner and I both had combo platters (now selling for $10.20.) The platter comes with one empañada, two sides, 1 sauce, a tea (black, oolong or chai) and a main entree. I tried the Samosa empañada (filled with potatoes and peas) ( oh... lest I forget.,. your choice of hard or flaky dough); while my partner had a mateer-paneer (filled with paneer-- an Indian cheese, potatoes and spinach). I choose a mango jicama salad while she choose basmati rice. We both had lentils, mint sauce & cilantro. The flavors were so authentic. The empañadas came with a choice of hard crust or chewy. The hard crust was crunchy, yet a bit chewy. The flaky was like phyllo dough. The cilantro sauce was almost too spicy for my partner. Later she got a tiki-masala sauce that was absolutely delicious and more mild. The avocado mint sauce was smooth and less spicy too. Furthermore, I will say that the lentils packed a punch of heat as well; However, I loved it. The chai tea was fresh and unsweetened without milk. I'm unsure if they have any available, but no matter (at least for me). I feel it is worth the trip back! read more

Honduran empanadas with some Indian dishes/ sides and the ability to mix and match is quite the unique fare. In terms of flavor and appearance, the empanadas themselves were special in their own right. I went towards the end of the lunch hour, thus only a few empanada flavors remained. However, the savory and meaty Butter Chicken Empanada ($4.95), still available, called to me. This came with a sauce of your choosing; I selected the Mint Chutney. I paired this with a side of Basmati Rice ($3.10) which was such a lovely combo. Fresh ingredients with a thoughtful amount of spices in the empanada. To make this a more balanced meal, I would add on some Honduran veggies, or just make it a combo. Parking was easy for me up front, but it is downtown, so you might not be as lucky. read more

I've definitely been enjoying Bombole and I'm glad they've entered the downtown Tucson food game. They're maybe a little bit off the "beaten path," which is why I missed them the first month they were open, but I won't make that mistake again! I haven't had a proper empanada in years, since I lived in NJ. So this was a pleasant surprise, especially since they're not serving up quite the typical empanada flavors. They're Indian/Latin fusion, and they're delicious. I LOVE the butter chicken with the masala sauce. The chicken is really tender and they get great flavor into it. I wish there was a little bit more of it in the empanada, though. Because it's THAT GOOD. I love the potatoes they put in their empanadas, too. They're always fork tender, and diced into small cubes so they're easy to eat. The best part of the Bombole empanada, and basically any decent empanada, is the dough. Bombole's is a bit more fluffy than what I'm used to, but it was an excellent surprise! It tasted like a flakey pastry dough, that's cooked perfectly and tastes buttery and yummy. I don't usually enjoy masala sauce, but Bombole's was actually delicious. The flavor profile was more interesting than I've had before. They also had a mint sauce, which was SERIOUSLY MINT! I only tasted a sample, and it was very strong. It was good, but I'm not sure how good it would be for me on an empanada. They also have a garlic cilantro sauce, but I don't like cilantro, so I passed. But my husband LOVES it and uses cups of it for a single empanada! The staff at Bombole is always super nice and helpful. They don't mind letting you sample stuff, and they've even brought us samples of slaws and stuff after we already ordered, just to be nice. The space is very clean, but a bit small which isn't a problem when I go (later in the day). I think their prices are ok, but again maybe they can put a little more filling in the empanadas to make them a bit more filling. I checked out Bombole during the Tucson Meet Yourself festival and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had always wanted to try it because of how cute the Bombole stamped empanandas looked, and finally made it downtown. I shared two of the Bombole combos (each comes with 1 empananda, 2 sides, 1 sauce, 1 iced tea). For less than 10 bucks each, it's a decent deal. I tried the Matar Paneer empananda and the Aloo Matar Samosa. Both are vegetarian. My favorite was the samosa. It was stuffed in a deliciously flaky puff pastry, perfect for the filling. The Matar Paneer was in an empanada crust and was alright. I found it a tad underseasoned and the crust a little on the chewy side. But seriously, those empanadas are so darn cute. The winning sides are the mango slaw and the stewed vegetables. The sweetness and crunch of the mango and jicama slaw were perfect. The Honduran slaw was bland, a little too acid forward, and with large chunks of cabbage. The daal was okay with a pretty weak curry flavor. The mint chutney and cilantro sauces were just divine. I poured that all over the sides and the empanandas and it transformed the flavors. The menu had mentioned there were vegan options, so I was a little disappointed to find out that none of the empanadas were included. They do have a dossa that is GF and vegan, but it was not available when I went during the special event. Many of their sides and sauces are vegan, however, which is nice. Overall, I would love to come back to Bombole if I'm in the area. I love the unique concept. The empanadas are cute and tasty and the service is excellent. This is a small location tucked away in the midst of downtown. I actually had some trouble finding it initially. When I went in, the smells were amazing. I went around dinner time, but it was pretty empty. I asked the staff for recommendations, and apparently the chicken is the most popular savory flavor. There were several sweet options, which all sounded good. I ended up getting the pumpkin and chai for the sweet flavor, as it is a seasonal limited flavor. For savory, I got the chicken, as well as the spinach and feta. For the pumpkin, it was decent. The chai flavor actually was not too strong, which is good because I am not the biggest fan of chai. However, I love pumpkin. The dough does get a bit softer, since pumpkin is so wet as a filling. Next time, I will probably try the chocolate Nutella flavor. For the savory, the chicken was excellent. The dough was decadent, flaky, and gave such a great flavor to the filling, which was well seasoned. You also get a choice of sauce for each empanada you order. I actually didn't eat it with the sauce, blasphemy I know, but I was quite hungry and ate it while walking since I also had other errands to run. The chicken held up well, didn't fall apart too badly, and I probably should have eaten it with the tikka masala sauce that I ordered with it. I think it would have also paired well with the chutney sauce. Do you keep in mind that if you eat these by hand, they are fairly greasy. I didn't have a napkin with me, so definitely had to wipe down my hands after finishing it. Alternatively, utensils would probably work pretty well as well. The spinach and feta was actually my favorite in the absence of sauces. A nice touch to these empanadas are that they label them on top. This way, there's no more confusion and mixing them up. All of them were perfectly fried, not oily and flaky. You can order a combo that includes sides such as basmati rice, daal, or slaw as well as sauces like mint chutney, tikka masala, and salsa verde. Everything is made fresh and has bright, rich flavors representing the Indian spices and blends of other flavors. We found the fiesta and spinach with mushroom empanadas our favorites and both the daal and Honduran slaw delightful.
