I wanted a sahasara and an eye. The process is calming for both the artist and the canvas. These days, we all need a little extra love and mental health care. I started my search around my neighborhood and after being denied twice, I continued my search in my old neighborhood, now referred to as Hamilton Heights. I walked into Blooming Threading Salon and was greeted by this very nice Indian lady. I wish I would have gotten her name to give her a little extra love here. She showed me some of her work. Some were extremely intricate. The price varied depending on what you wanted. I chose mine. It was relaxing and therapeutic. We had a nice conversation while she kept her focus on the piece of art she was creating on my skin. At the end, she made sure to dry it best she could with a fan. I loved how it came out and the best part is that it will last some time. I will definitely come back for more services. They do eyebrows, wax (with different kinds of waxes, depending on your needs). Treat yourself. A little self care goes a long way in making you feel like yourself again.

It's a pretty spacious shop considering there is one barber and one hairstylist however there are enough booths for at least two others. The Barber is Jerry and he is the truth! He works by appointment only and has the skills of a trained surgeon. Honestly, Jerry can make a Sasquatch look well groomed! He is extremely professional as well as knowledgeable. Unlike other barbershops in the city you will not spend half of your Saturday sitting inside as patron after patron come in and take the chair before you. His clientele is extensive and no matter how slow he is on the day walk-ups still are not accepted. Evelyn, the shop's namesake, is as pleasant as she is gorgeous. She is the first face to greet you upon entering and occupies the first chair. I'm not sure if she works by appointment only but she too does not have multiple clients sitting around waiting for her to get to them. Waxing the bikini area is not an experience normal people seek out. I felt brave today and went into Tammy's and asked for a Brazilian. I met Tammy, the actual Tammy, and she is a beautiful person. She has a calmness, a serenity about her that is palpable and infectious. I calmed down immediately when she walked into the room. We talked, about kids, about life, about our daughters, as she worked, and guess what? Tammy waxed me without hurting me. I couldn't believe how horrible it wasn't and I still can't believe I got the full Monty without wishing I'd had a Valium first! I'm no longer afraid of waxing, Thank you Tammy! Ms. Jackie was a consummate professional, the wax was quick and not painful like I expected. It was my first time and I had a lot of hair-all of the hair-but it went well. I was guided and I felt comfortable and safe. That's central for me. Quite honestly, that's how you need to feel when you have your most private of parts -all out. You don't want to feel like anyone is judging you or going to talk bout the fact that you pulled with a forest between your legs, when you leave . I was also educated on exfoliation for skin care and ingrown avoidance. ALL of my friends who get waxed have never told me about this part. It's important to be educated about your skin to maintain and retain the benefit of your service. I feel like the price was reasonable for the quick, clean and safe service with minimal pain-less than the chain that recently opened in the neighborhood and much cleaner than anything I have seen available in a while. It is where I was introduced to Dazzle Dry (DD), my preferred nail polish system, and where I realized doing my nails can actually be relaxing. I really enjoy their intimate set up (only two nail stations) and the biggest pro for me...no acrylic/chemical smell. They also do hair, facials, waxing, and massages, though I haven't experienced these services. The Dazzle Dry manicure is $30 while the pedicure is a bit more at $65. The service is so meticulous and gentle, it takes a full two hours. Their technique is different than what I have experienced in the neighborhood and their service is consistent. It truly feels like you are getting pampered and my hands and feet look brand new everytime. Sava is such a treat and well worth the price. If you've never tried DD before, it's vegan and said to last two weeks without chipping. This is mostly true, but of course gel (which they recently started to also do!) is king when you are going to be super active and in water. DD is perfect for day to day, and Sava has an extensive collection of colors. The owner, Iwona, is a fantastic technician, as is Monika. Love them both, and catching up with them is always fun during my service. I look forward to continuing to support this lovely business and feel lucky to have them close for my nail care needs. I love her energy, attention to detail and the care she puts into her product development, ambiance and services. Today was my first time purchasing her eyebrow service and I fell in love. Not only does Donna hook you up proper with her clippers (instead of the usual waxing, threading or tweezing you get at the nail shop or other sub-par establishments that claim to do eyebrows), she added a little extra oomph by filling in the brows and adding complimentary basic make-up. Her 20+ years of make-up artistry makes her extremely knowledgable about what she does and her body, facial and bath products smell heavenly. We purchased her cocoa mango and cocoa rose hand-cut soaps and we can't wait to try them. I'm looking forward to getting a facial done soon! Thanks Donna!

She also took time to talk to me about my skin and why I could be having issues. She made some recommendations and gave me a small sample of a face cleanser that she makes herself. She did this without pushing products on me, which is so appreciated. I'm definitely looking forward to prettier, healthier skin!
