I've been waxed 3 times in my life. I'm 167 years old. Waxing HURTS. Only for a second, but the pain of waxing is profound, it's distinct, it's......terrible. Waxing the bikini area is not an experience normal people seek out. I felt brave today and went into Tammy's and asked for a Brazilian. I met Tammy, the actual Tammy, and she is a beautiful person. She has a calmness, a serenity about her that is palpable and infectious. I calmed down immediately when she walked into the room. We talked, about kids, about life, about our daughters, as she worked, and guess what? Tammy waxed me without hurting me. I couldn't believe how horrible it wasn't and I still can't believe I got the full Monty without wishing I'd had a Valium first! I'm no longer afraid of waxing, Thank you Tammy! Service is very hit or miss with regard to politeness. Before your eyebrows are threaded, the estheticians don't clean your eyebrows. The tiniest amount of aloe Vera is put on your brows after (on top of the make up you already have on your face). read more

I really wanted to like this small business, but they gave me a Brazilian wax even after I confirmed Bikini 3 times (once on the phone for the appointment, once before entering the room, once during the actual process) and tried to claim a "full bikini" and Brazilian are the same thing. Uh, no -- they're even listed as different services on your very own menu posted on the wall. If you've gotten your area waxed before, you know that it's hard to tell what they're doing while trying not to focus on the pain, and I was completely taken back when I sat up and saw she hadn't left anything up top at all. She never even asked if I wanted something different up top. I might have assumed she was new except that the front desk tried to sell me the same line about "full bikini = Brazilian." It's a shame because I really wanted to like this local place and was even eyeing their facials and would have given 2 stars just for a decent wax (not the most painful wax I've gotten but not the least), even with all of the talc powder they left on my feet and legs (and how did she leave wax on my foot?), but on top of all this, the waxer asked me out of nowhere if this was my "first baby." This is THE most horrific eyelash experience I've ever had. I got my eyelashes done by Nilu, whose service had me coming back in the next day because the eye lashes were not staying on. she applied them again and after leaving, realized there was glue underneath my eye, which ended up drying and scratching my interior. I ended up with glue in my eyes for two + weeks after going to urgent care. I've repeatedly called and have been dismissed each time to no resolve, no refund, nothing. Horrible. Horrible. i hope they are ready for these lawsuits. read more

Very horrible experience with the Brazilian wax. It was rough and there was still wax left on me after. She also used baby powder. I've never seen anyone use that. With already sensitive skin, I have to go try and scrub the rest of the wax off. This was definitely not with $59!!! read more

I came at 7:30 on Friday and the shop closes at 8pm, She asked what service and then she said no come tomorrow she's closed. Just wanted a eyebrows cleaned and lip wax which takes less than 5/7 minutes to complete. I initially started going here for my eyebrows and felt the job was good enough. Then, I moved into eyelash services with them and was pleased with the fake lashes. Then, I upgraded to the mink lashes and it was hit or miss! Tammy initially did the lashes and they lasted as promised. Then, I worked with Coco, since Tammy semi-retired, and at times perfection and other times they fell off two days later. I've worn individual lashes for years so I know how to handle them. Then, on my most recent visit as I was waiting to get serviced I stated chatting with others. I noticed that a couple of other ladies had a similar experience and decided to get lashes elsewhere but continued facials and brows here. I'm loyal and lazy so I just listened, but had no intention on leaving. But, if I paid $75 for the mink lashes and they fell out within a week or so, I would depend on their promise to replace at no cost. After, this round, I experienced them falling out but could not address since I was out of town. Once I returned I went in and shared the problem, I was told that I had to pay for a new set. Once I reminded them of the promise, I was offered a few dollars off. Mind you I did not want an entirely new set. I provided email proof of all the times I got serviced there for multiple things including lashes. This was my way of reminding them of my loyalty. They still insisted on the up-charge, that's when I knew I had to leave. I'm not expecting miracle lashes but I can't afford $75 lashes that fall out within a 7-10 days every other time I get them. Nilu is the rudest person I've ever received service from in the cosmetic sector. In every interaction I've had with her, she's been short-tempered and unnecessarily nasty and I've been going to this place for over eight years now. I ask her simple questions about services and she gets defensive and has anger outbursts and starts talking about me in Hindi to the other techs. It's not normal. I hate to give this place a low rating because the other techs are not bad but she's there every time I go and this issue needs to be addressed. First of lets start out by , since when does a Brazilian wax not include the bikini area????this lady charged me 5 extra dollars for a bikini area when i asked for a Brazilian wax. she had a attitude for no reason from the beginning and made my whole experience negative . she refused to wax my bikini area after her coworker even told her that that area should be included in the wax and it became a whole back and forth . she did a horrible job and left a bunch of hair patches and continues to tell me she couldn't take the hair off because I shaved when i Repeatedly told her i always wax i never shave and she kept on accusing me of shaving and blaming me on her poor job! Re: LASHES - I guess you get what you pay for. Actually, less than what you pay for here. Just go to CVS and get Arden strip lashes for $5 instead of eyelashes done here. They charge $90, you have to hold the fan up to your face the entire time and the work is so bad. I went here because it's by my home and i have a new baby so i don't have time to go much further. I went back every week for 3 weeks to get them touched up because they fell out, twisted and turned, drooped down etc. they told me it was the heat causing it ... another time she told me it's because I got "mink" lashes. Sooo, I pick the most expensive one on your menu and that's why it's crap? Lesson learned, going to The Lash Loft tomorrow and getting quality service. These eyelash extensions are actually terrible clumped together and falling off after one day , they hurt so bad she didn't even try to fix them after I told her that they hurt when they dried. Was originally quoted $40 and then conned into getting these "minks" that were so much higher quality & they look horrible. They took 5 minutes to apply and look exactly like the $20 nail salon lashes and they charged me an extra $7 for using a card. Too many places in the area definitely not worth it I'm harassing them for my money back. $72 for $40 eyelash extensions is absolutely nuts for the lady to tell me they last up to a week if I take care of them. I came here in June for eyelash extensions after just moving to Harlem for the summer from California. I get eyelash extensions regularly, and found this place on yelp! I've never had an experience as bad as this one :( They apply the eyelash extensions with your EYES OPEN. Ive never experienced this before, even at other cheap salons that I go to in Oakland they always have you lie down with eye pads to protect your lower lashes from getting stuck. At Tammy's, I was sitting upright in a chair with my eyes open and they gave me a fan to blow at my face. My eyes were BURNING and WATERING the entire time from the glue because they were open, I was crying a lot. I closed my eyes as a reaction to the watering, and my lower lashes got stuck to the lash extensions!! Then I couldn't open my eye, and the woman forcefully opened my eyes with her fingers, ripping out some of my lower and upper lashes!!!!!! I just wanted to leave so I let them finish the job, but even with the cheap price it is not worth the pain and loss of my natural lashes. read more

I've been going to Tammy's for about 3 years now for my body waxing, brow threading and lashes. I am always pleased with the service but this NEW LOCATIONS is simply beautiful. The wax room is cozy and comfortable and the wit area is spacious. Love Love the new location. Waxers, be very aware if you are getting your eyebrows done! I visited Tammy's salon last week and was pleasantly welcomed to a clean, cheery salon with masked estheticians ready to take a walk-in appointment during COVID! The service was very warm and the space is quite nice. However, the service left much to be desired -- I received an eyebrow wax and the waxed seemed unsure of herself throughout the process. She even waxed certain parts of my skin twice, which I've never experienced before! Plus, tweezing was not included to pluck stray hairs in the follow up service. What left the poorest taste in my mouth however, is that the following day I found scabs on my face under my eyebrow from my eyebrow wax -- presumably due to the over waxing of my face. I've never experienced scabbing due to waxing and it is quite noticeable, as it's directly beneath the brow on each side by the nose. Unfortunately, I would not return because of this. read more

Key points: -We went on a Monday evening 6:30-ish, and only one technician was available. -There was a bit of a wait, but I've heard nothing but good things about this place so we waited. -Once in the chair, the young lady was very fast, but also very rough. However, I wasn't too thrilled with my brazilian as there were definitely more than a few missed hairs which I didn't notice because I was busy cleaning off the excess wax she missed removing from my skin. They do a decent job with the eyebrow threading but I felt that she spent more time tweezing to finish the job than threading. They make you sign a waiver prior to wax jobs which I have not had to do before and made me a bit hesitant. They also have a sign up that if you give them a glowing review on yelp you get 1 free eyebrow threading..(my rating cant be bought!!!) Today was one of those days when the last minute was all i had time for . THANKFULLY i found Tammy's on Yelp and decided to take a chance. I'm so glad i did! Coco removed my old lashes (from diff lash place) very gently, and then we got to work on my new set. It took her~ 45 minutes to complete my eyelashes. She let me see one side completed before she continued to the next to be sure I was satisfied . When I had any tears, she wiped them gently and quickly. She was very sweet and made easy conversation, but was very focused. Coco also told me about refills every 2 weeks (price depends on how many fall out). Oh, I also asked her to wax my eyebrows ($7) just to give them shape. I left the spa feeling like a brand new woman! Coco did an amazing job! -- Lash Service Grade A+ OTHER THINGS TO KNOW: -------------------------------------------------- I called 30 minutes before I went in to the spa to ask if they had availability, the phone rang 3x, and the employee who answered the phone was extremely nice. She reassured me that the spa had space and time for me. *Sighs of relief*. -- Scheduling Grade A+ Once I arrived, I was able to find the spa on the second floor easily. The spa had 4 stations, 2 private rooms, a clean restroom, and an open waiting area with metal chairs, and a table full of magazines. Good news, the spa takes Apple Pay (I'm a millennial lol). Overall, the spa itself was busy, but organized. The brick wall in the waiting area had some cute decorations which added a chic touch to the space. The chair I sat in had a lot of duct tape, but they were relatively comfortable and reclined easily. --Aesthetics Grade B- Upon entering the spa, I was immediately greeted by the staff. I was seated in the first station and my old lashes were assessed (I was told they could be removed for $10). I was asked how I wanted my lashes and told I could have them done similarly to how my old lashes had been done since I like a cat eye and natural lash. I decided to get a full set of mink lashes ($65) in lengths 11,12,13. I paid using my debit card and was able to leave a tip (the cashier gave me the tip back in cash so I could give Coco the money right away). I wanted to spend less than $100 total. When I calculated the services (removal, full set, and wax) total, it came up to $82. The cashier used an old school calculator and charged $88 for everything. I think he calculated things incorrectly ($82 vs $88) but perhaps the cashier added tax. Regardless, I gave Coco a substantial tip bc I was so happy! The list of services at Tammy's is extensive but as I've only been here for Brazillian waxing, that's what this review focuses on. This is the 3rd time I've come to Tammy's for a Brazilian and it is always a pleasant experience. My first wax was done by one of the younger staff members (Tammy's niece I think) and I was hesitant initially, but she did a great job. My other two waxes were done by the proprietor herself. The space is welcoming and all of the staff are very friendly. Tammy is quick and THOROUGH. She also checks on you frequently during the process and makes the whole experience of having your hoo-ha exposed to a stranger a lotttttt less uncomfortable hahaha. For me, it's also worth noting that a lot of places make you feel like undesired clientele when they see a plus-size woman walk in, especially for a Brazilian, and I really appreciate that the atmosphere in Tammy's is the total opposite of that. Im giving this place four stars only bc I asked for bottom mink lashes without an appointment. I had to wait for a little but Tamny did a great job. She is real sweet & curteous to every single one of her customers. I can tell by how comfortable the ladies were.
