Some dishes that I recommend: avocado salad, house fried rice, spicy japchae, seafood yaki udon, kimchi jjigae. Service: 4/5 I think service is okay, it depends on the time you come. This place is very packed during dinner time on weekends. Price: 4/5 Their prices are reasonable compare to other restaurant in this area. It's hard to find parking so plan a head. Had dinner at Bonchon on Thursday evening. Shared a large order of the Soy Garlic Sauce Wings and the House Fried Rice. Quality I arrived to Boston hungry and the suggestion of Korean Wings was too good to pass up. We ended up at Bonchon, which has several locations in the New England area and is known for their Soy Garlic Sauce Wings. We went big going for a large order, which comes with 30 pieces. And while I am sure we were aided by a busy restaurant churning out fresh wings, it is impossible to ignore how perfect they came out. Crunchy and tasty on the outside and unbelievably tender on the inside. Each bite was an absolute treat and the soy garlic sauce ensured you did not need any dip. We also added on the House Fried Rice as a side. While not on the same level as the chicken, the rice made a perfect accompaniment to the tasty chicken. The meal hit all the right spots. Quantity It was just two of us, but we ordered enough food for four. As good as the Wings are, they are large and fill you up fast. Add that to tasty fried rice and you are guaranteed some nice leftovers. Value We selected a large order of Wings, which was 30 pieces for $32. It is a little pricey, but it is hard to deny the quality of food. The House Fried Rice was around $7, which was a steal for the large bowl. Ambiance Bonchon is located in Allston, right off Brighton Ave in Boston. The restaurant is a good size and has a very energetic space. They have a bar along the right wall that doubles as a sushi bar, then a bunch of tables filling up the rest of the space. The decor was very simple with just some designs on the wall, but nothing to define the character of the restaurant. Several televisions hung from the wall showing basketball and football. Overhead Christmas lights hung from the ceiling, despite being a little early for the holiday season. Pop music played from the speakers, a bit too loudly, which caused the volume of the restaurant as a whole to rise. Crowd The restaurant was very busy on Thursday night. Almost every table was taken and there were also a good amount of people standing around waiting for take-out orders. It is a solid place for a casual meal, but also one that works for a to-go party platter. Service It took our server a little while to first stop by our table, but once we ordered things moved very fast. It was incredible how quickly the chicken came out and it was piping hot. Parking It is extremely tough to find street parking in the area. We ended up parking several blocks away and walking over. Extra Bonchon serves up some delicious Korean-style Wings. And while the space is relatively simple, this is definitely a spot to grab and go. It would make for a great game-day snack and any leftovers hold up almost too well. read more

Less cracktastic than the Bon Chon I'm familiar with in Annandale, Virginia. However... The staff here speak fluent English. Huge bonus when ordering via phone. It also seems to take roughly 1/2 to 1/3 the amount of time for them to have our order ready (vs. the hour or so wait that I'm used to, our chicken was prepared and boxed for us to pick up within twenty minutes). That does lead me to a certain heightened level of suspicion that they may just batch prep these fried suckers and have them sitting around, as opposed to making them fresh upon ordering. And the space (being inside some joint named Privus) is far more brightly lit and similarly far more smoke-free than the facility I'm used to. In an out in under five minutes with an order-and-a-half to take home, inclusive of three super generous portions of crunchy daikon, napkins, and chopsticks (really? What are those for?). Cold tapa, hot tapas, traditional Korean dishes like spicy rice cakes to sushi...and of course fried chicken. We were seated fairly quickly given the dinner rush and several larger parties before us. The place was pretty busy. Our server greeted us within minutes. He was pretty attentive and made us feel comfortable in taking our time to order. I love this place, used to come here all the time and now that I've moved closer it'll probably be more frequent. I came here with my boyfriend for an early dinner. There's usually a wait on the weekends, but we came here on a weekday and was seated immediately. We ordered the fried chicken combo size medium with half soy garlic and half spicy. The spicy sauce definitely has a kick! The chicken is very lightly breaded and crisp. So savory! The portion size was good as we ordered the bibimbap entree as well. Five stars for the fried chicken but four stars for the bibimbap. It was good, but nothing to make a note of. The service was prompt and our waitress was attentive. Will be back! read more

I went with my friend and we split the check and saw they printed the suggested guidelines for tip of 15%, 18%, and 20%. I love me some chicken wings! It seems that almost the rest of Boston shares the same love for chicken wings like me! The line gets super crazy around peak dining hours! But I understand why! The wings are made perfectly! There are 3 different sauces to choose from: original, soy garlic, and hot sauce. You can also choose small, medium, large, or extra large size! I tried the large size with hot sauce. The wings were crispy and glazed with hot sauce. It was so delicious! The sauce had the perfect kick to it. I also liked how the sauce was a little sweet. There were definitely more than enough wings for two to share! The wings also came with 2 sides, one was a purple cabbage coleslaw and another was pickled daikon. I also ordered a Sapporo with my wings because you got to have some beer with your wings! I was craving some Korean pancake so I ordered the seafood pancake too. Compared to the other ones I have tried, I think this pancake is not as authentic. It was too cakey for me. But I liked how there was a lot of seafood in it. The service was ok. 3 girls, Saturday 7PM, we had to wait 40 minutes to be seated. But the food came out in like 5 minutes! I've always ordered Bon Chon to go, for some chicken and beer at home while watching TV...I actually didn't even know they had a legit sit-down restaurant until I came to Boston! And they sell sushi?! We ordered the ddukbokee and medium soy garlic combo (wings and drums), and Sapporo (which is the only draft they have unfortunately) Ddukbokee: I was very very impressed by the ddukbokee here. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of some amazing ddukbokkee. But the spiciness was not overwhelming, the rice cakes were plump and not tough, the spring rolls were crispy, the ramen noodles were abundant, etc. Overall, it really really tasted great. Gosh my mouth is watering. The medium combo was actually too much for us to finish! It was probably the beer that got us a little full, but we had about 8 wings/drums left over? I can't believe it, but every time I return to this place, my experiences keep getting better, and I probably have been eating the right food that has been tasty so far. I am going to give this place a higher rating, with some caution. If you come here just to order the sushi, and/or the other Korean/Japanese dishes, and not the chicken wings, I think you are going to miss out on something special and tasty. Every time I get the chicken, I now get a combo mix of wings and drumsticks. I really liked the crispiness on the outside and the tenderness on the inside. I had both the soy garlic and the spicy flavors. The soy garlic has a nice small sweet flavor and not too overpowering. The spicy flavored chicken was fairly strong, which led me to drink more water. Sometimes, they provide a special bucket to dispose of the bones, which is great and convenient. Another dish I recently had was the the Tonkatsu. It's a really filling dish, a large bowl of rice and crispy meat, enough to fill a hungry man's stomach. The side dishes have been tasty and they give a generous amount. A nice Korean lady that I had dinner with her and her friends said to me that she really liked to eat the pickled radishes. I agree with her on that part. I also liked the cole slaw. Service has got a little better, servers are fairly nice, and the food comes in fairly quick. One major disadvantage is that the chicken can be really expensive, a large combo set of chicken wings is about $30, and should be enough to feed 3 people. Overall, this is still a good choice to get some tasty Korean style fried chicken wings, even though the price may be a little high compared to other places. Bon Chon chicken is back in Boston, baby!' The restaurant is clearly still working out its kinks, so you can either be patient and wait a few months or be patient and go now, knowing it'll be an imperfect dining experience. And by that, I mean it'll be about 30 min before the chicken arrives. Apparently, that's standard. Luckily, you have plenty of other Korean goodies to snack on while you wait. The pork buns are quite tasty, covered in soft, fluffy white bread. The udon soup is delicious and loaded with vegetables, fish cakes and mussels. I love Korean udon soup! The Ocean handroll is the perfect way to take the edge off your hunger. And as for the chicken itself: It's crack-tastic! The spicy is not as spicy as I remembered it, which was slightly disappointing. The soy/garlic is lovely. Unfortunately, more kinks: Some pieces (we got all drumsticks) were clearly fresh--piping hot, tender, juicy. Others had clearly been sitting around for a while, as they were almost cold and not juicy. Fortunately, there were more fresh than not-fresh, but still...There shouldn't even be one. I'll be back fro more, but definitely looking forward to when they figure out everything and streamline their operations. Oh, and lunch isn't served on weekends. Ah! I had high hopes for BonChon Allston, except it sent me to the bathroom last night to do some bonding with my toilet. I ordered some take out for dinner, got home, ate my sushi and bonchon chicken, a couple hours later, I was writhing in pain. I spent some time in the bathroom and even after the purge, my stomach still hurt. I was rolling around in bed all night long and couldn't fall asleep from the discomfort. I'm still not 100% today. Was I sure it was them? Well, I ate lunch at noon, studied for 6 hours and was fine the entire time. The only thing I ate for dinner was their food around 7pm. In their defense, this was my fourth time eating here and got food poisoning for the first time. I actually enjoyed my sushi. I got the Big Boss Maki (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado and sweet chili sauce) and the Unagi Maki. However, they've been making their sushi with a lot more rice recently. I don't appreciate that at all. The BonChon is very inconsistent. Some days it's pretty good, other days it tastes like it was left out over night. I've also tried the Okonomiyaki aka Japanese Pancake. This is also hit or miss. I really liked it the first two times I had it. The third and last time, it was disgusting and just tasted like pancake drenched in barbecue sauce. The few times I went, the service was decent. I always ended up with the same waiter, who I could tell was trying his best to keep up with all the tables. It was always a Saturday night, which meant they were incredibly busy. It would be 4 stars, but 1 star deduction for inconsistency and 1 star deduction for giving me a stomach ache. It's still a fairly new restaurant, so maybe they're still working out the kinks. They were probably busy and didn't live up their sanitary standards for my take out that night or maybe there was something off about the fish I ate. Who knows! Having the Mondayest any day ever? Relaxx; BonChon will take good care of you. Seriously, the service here is wonderful and the casual ambiance filled with satisfied customers creates a great environment for unwinding after a long day. I come here solely for the chicken and jjigae, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Oh, and their fries. Their fries are so ridiculously good, with plenty of potatoe meat to savor. I've tried the dukbokki and seafood pancake once before, but I didn't find them particularly satisfying. I usually don't like dukbokki with cheese; and the seafood pancake was pretty thin, not fluffy and overflowing with sea critter chunks like ones I've had elsewhere. Dat chicken doe...double fried for an addicting crispiness and lightly-coated with a special brand of crack that lends it stickiness without that saucy drippiness. It may not be THE best, but it's damn good. I seriously experience physiological withdrawal after just a week off of this freakin' chicken. And I'm positive I've been conditioned to salivate just at the thought of a piece of that tender, white meat chicken wrapped in that crunchy, candied coating...please excuse me a moment while I wipe away some dribble at the thought... An unexpected favorite from BonChon is kimchi jjiggae. It's deeply flavorful and so fresh, with nice, fatty pieces of pork that help cut some of its spiciness. It's big enough to split between two, and servers are often quite generous with rice. Because the same seasonal peppers are used in both the kimchi jiggae and the spicy fried chicken, the degree of spiciness may vary throughout the year. Getting these dishes together may make you sweat and cry all sorts of masochistic joy, but the sweet cole slaw and sour pickled radish side dishes offer a welcome respite from the heat. Al tang (fish roe soup) is also quite delicious, and it's huuuge. I'd say it's big enough to share amongst 4-6. Bonus for those who are in the area for lunch on a weekday (noon-3pm): BonChon probably has the best lunch special you'll be able to find around here. One order of chicken and one order of kimchi jjigae is under $20 and provides a generous lunch portion for two. read more

"Addicted yet?" Um, not quite. My fellow college students RAVE about this place so I decided to see what all the hype was about. The first time I went, I LOVED it. The second time, not so much. Some of the chicken was so tough that you couldn't even bite into it. It was really hard and dry. I was massively disappointed since my first experience was so delicious. I returned a third time for a tie-breaker. The chicken was fantastic, just like the first time. I was delighted. So I went back for a 4th and 5th time (this is over a time span of July-November). This is a legitimate longitudinal study, people. The final 2 times were hit or miss: hard and dry or cooked just right. I'm not such a fan anymore because of the inconsistency. Plus each piece of chicken has just as much, if not more, fried casing compared to actual chicken. Horrible experience. I am never ordering here again. The food was soggy and the chicken was mixed together. Thus the sauces mixed and everything turned extremely spicy. My father cannot eat spicy so I had order a portion of the plain ones and it was also spicy. We were sweating and our lips were burning, very uncomfortable. Here is my favorite fried chicken place in allston area. I have ordered wings&drums several times at Bomchon for togo. Servers were kind but have made some mistakes every time i ordered. I dont know it is only for me or not. Last time, i ordered wings and drum but it came with strips and sometimes they forgot my chopstick and napkins for togo. When i had a dinner with my friends in the restaruant, everything was fine though. But i don't really care as long as they serve good chicken. Im gonna go again soon. I loveeeee the fried chicken here! It came out really quick the last time I came so that is a change, like 10 minutes quick. If you don't like spicy get the garlic soy flavor, the spicy is very spicy. We also got the bibimbap with bulgogi which was decent. The crazy maki we got was DISGUSTING though so don't order sushi. The sushi piece fell apart when I went to pick it up with my chopsticks and it was roll awfully and very loose. The rice was dry, the shrimp tempera in the sushi wasn't very crunchy and tasted old but since we already ate 2 of 6 pieces, can we really send it back?? Snap...how'd I forget to write up Bon Chon? The fried chicken's fantastic and you won't go wrong with either the soy garlic or hot sauce. The contrast between the mad crispy skin and juicy, tender explosion of flavor within is something that the Southern style can't emulate. Sadly, they stop serving the chicken around midnight or perhaps a bit earlier despite being open until 1 am, but it gave our group a chance to explore other options on the menu with great success. We went with some Haemul Pajeon, Stir Fried Spicy Pork & Kimchi and Spicy Tuna Ceviche. I was impressed with the frying on the pancake (much better than Myung Dong 1st Ave in fact) while the pork and kimchi were tasty and loaded with well-attenuated spice. As for that tuna, I enjoyed the freshness. The dousing in generic Korean hot sauce and $9 price tag...not so much. On the whole though, it was nice to see that Bon Chon can deliver on dishes beyond their delicious chicken. read more

Most of my friends had been raving about fried chicken here, so I thought to give it a try. My husband and I took along my two little brothers, one of them had eaten here before and liked the fried chicken as well. It was on weekend and crowded, of course, it was four of us and was told about 20 minutes wait, but its shorter than that, probably 10mins. I proceeded to order pork buns, scorpion sushi maki, medium combo soy garlic chicken, hotate kaiyaki, bulgogi bibimbap, nabe yaki udon soup. The fried chicken was amazing, crispy, tender and flavorful, it was in between sweet and salty, but not overwhelming, I'd never taste any chicken like this before, the flavor was so unique. I even had another order to go for my parents to try. Sushi was fresh and creamy which I liked. I was about to order a second plate, but there were so much food on the table, so I thought to finish it all first, then would order if I still had room for it which I didnt. The other dishes were delicious as well, but the least favorite was the pork buns, all I could see was the pork belly filled with fat stuffed inside dried dough. Reasonable price. Staff is nice & attentive. However, this location is my last choice, narrow streets, crazy drivers, too many pedestrians that would cross the street anytime they want, hard to find the parking spot, the list goes on. I'm a HUGE fan of BC. I have been to as many as I can. I use to drive 2 hours round trip to go once a week to eat at the one in VA. This location is were I fell in love with the food, company and concept. I try to come for the lunch specials as I find the quality and service is better. My sister and I had a craving for bon chon chicken and was excited to hear that Bon Chon had just opened in Boston! Had to check it out. I went today (Saturday) at about 5-5:30pm and we were seated almost right away. We were greeted with a very nice host with a great smile. The place was modern looking and pretty chill. Dim lighting and a relaxed feel to it. Definitely a cool and hip feel to it. Loved the booths and the long tables in the middle. We ordered a sushi roll, a seafood udon, and a combo bon chon chicken. The sushi roll was delicious. Had a fresh taste to it...especially the cucumber that was in my roll. Really good. Seafood udon was good too...although the mussels were a bit difficult to eat. Lastly, bon chon chicken. I have to admit but it took a bit longer than we expected for the chicken to come out. Had to wait almost an hour for it and we asked the waiter about it. Sorry, but I think the long wait for the chicken cost this review a star. Finally, it came out and it was delicious. So good that I lost count on how many pieces I ate. Towards the end of our meal (around 6:45-7pm) it was getting really packed. To avoid the long wait and packed crowds, go earlier in the evening. It's less busy and you'll get seated sooner. Best Asian fried chicken I've had thus far. Crispy exterior, juicy and tender meat inside. Not greasy. Not overwhelmed with sauce. I want to taste the chicken, not just the sauce. My friend and I also ordered the bugolgi, and Kalbi, both served on a cast iron sizzling platter, and the meat is not only flavorful, but tender. Delicious! Bring your appetite, the portions are generous, and each dish came with steamed rice. The service was just okay, no glowing reviews in that regard. Ordered today and the wings are dry, way overcooked, over breaded and hard. The fried rice was ok. This place has gone way downhill.

I came here with two friends hoping to sit for dinner but it was packed with a 40 minute wait. The restaurant is pretty big too. So we all ordered to go boxes. I got the combo of wings (5 pieces) and drumsticks (3 pieces), soy garlic flavor. Total was $12.79. I really did feel like I got what I paid for. The chicken was quite big and was so delicious. I don't think I've ever been so satisfied just from eating chicken just on its own, and I've eaten at Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles and Chick-fil-a. The chicken came with a side of coleslaw and a side of radish. The coleslaw was good but I wasn't a fan of the strong vinegary taste of the radish. Those were just extras though. The chicken is the real star of the show. I don't think I'd ever had such unique tasting fried chicken in my life. It was sweet, a little tangy, a little salty, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The chicken tasted made-to-order fresh. I don't think I've ever been hooked on something so quickly before. Please tell me there's a similar place in Ktown in LA. Please, show me the way because I have mad cravings for this place and I seriously ate 20 soy ginger wings all to myself less than 2 days ago. Soy Ginger, such awesome flavors. I was warned to stay away from the hot. But next time, I am definitely trying it. I don't care if it makes me cry. Seaweed salad was light and delicious, lots of seaweed. Didn't get to try any Korean food or their makis - Will do next time I am in town. But their wings...so damn good. read more

Oh Bon Chon, how I love thee. Let me count the ways... In bones from my drumsticks. In pieces of tenders. (my favorite!) In ounces of your soy garlic sauce. In bowls of cole slaw (I'm not a big slaw person and this is for real.) In cubes of radish (had I ever eaten one before? Thanks for the intro, Bon Chon) In taps of my chopsticks. In spicy pieces of kimchi! In sections of crisparagus roll. I can't speak for the spicy drumsticks/wings/tenders, but I'm sure it is good if you can handle the heat. The space and atmosphere is nice and inviting -- open layout. Location is convenient, I only wish there was another one closer to my home (no wait, that would be awful because my entire paycheck would be gone). Not because of their prices, though; those are super fair! Anytime my coworkers and I decide to get together after work, someone is always quick to throw Bon Chon out as an option for where to go. Double crisp chicken wings. Do it. If you enjoy spice, go for the spicy soy garlic wings. They're not as spicy as the furious wings from Crave but its the enjoyable kind of spice. For 7 people we ordered 3 orders of sushi, 2 orders of the crispy salmon salad, 2 orders of the spicy seafood mix, 2 orders of large chicken wings, 1 sake cocktail, and two saporros. Total $210 including the added gratitudity for +6 people. It was a good night. I don't recommend the sake cocktail though, it is suppose to be like soju? It was served in an olive oil container and it gave us 3 rounds of shots. The alcohol content was minimal. We didn't taste anything but lychee juice and it was $18. The double crisp spicy soy garlic wings are a must! The mild is a good buffer but its not my first choice. All the sides we got were good as well. We finished everything in the end. I was first introduced to Bonchon when I moved back to Boston. Nothing will compare to Korean Friend Chicken in Seoul but this satisfys my taste buds everytime. I always order the small wings (10 pieces) with soy Garlic sauce. I enjoy that the wings come with pickled radish. But I am not a fan of the coleslaw. The pickled radish are always fresh, crunchy, and taste good. The establishment itself is great. We have never had to wait for a table. They have a selection of tables and booths. I have always had a booth. Service has always been friendly and fast. Will come back a third time soon! read more

Updated review - I used to give this place 5 stars, but now I can't say that they are best anymore... As I order Togo so many times -- there are something missing like 4 out of 5 times! Like today they are missing side dishes as I order 40 pieces of wing - - so they supposed to come with big container of radishes and coleslaw, but I guess they reduce the side to small container. The other time I order small size wing - they didn't give me any side dish. So I don't know what happened to their business. Hopefully, it won't happen to other customers! read more

The size of the chicken is great compared to other places that would give tiny pieces. I got the drumsticks with a side of rice to share. The chicken had a crispy batter and it was tender on the inside. I thought the soy garlic sauce was a little too salty for my liking but with the rice, it balanced out. I would go again since the service was quick and ample seating inside. read more
