I had the worst experience today. I am completely mind blown and speechless. Never have I ever received this type of service/treatment for takeout. I work in the industry and worked at a competing restaurant (past) and I understand the process of cooking the chicken, and wait time. I ordered on Yelp for take-out today at 3:45pm. I got the email and everything, and when I arrived to the restaurant my boyfriend went inside and said that they did not have my order (okay, no big deal we can figure this out), he then texts me that he sees the slip and the the employee had told him she had "forgot to send it" (okay, again, no big deal; i get it, when taking an order from these apps most places have to manually put it in). She then asks him does he want to wait and she can rush an order and "it'll be 15-20mins". He texted me and asked if that's okay, I said as long as it's not another 30 mins then I don't mind. We would have never agreed if she had said 30-45 mins. We were already waiting in the car for 20 mins. She said she'd give us a discount, which was not my intention but it was nice enough to offer since it was their mistake on their end. I'm sitting in the car, my boyfriend is inside waiting. The employees are well aware of his presence, but does not once alert him "it'll be 10 more mins" or even apologize for the wait. All we ordered was small wings, French fries, and the salmon avocado salad. I saw at least 10 people go in and out and grab their food with no issue. Quick go in and go out. Finally it's been at least 40 mins, and he goes and asks where the food was. The employee was confused. Then the girl that took the order had forgotten it behind the sushi bar... this whole time it was already ready..... be he was standing there when the time was up. And the girl was just too busy texting on her phone. He comes into the car with the food and tells me the story, I look in the bag, fries are soggy, no chopsticks, no napkins, no nothing. I go inside because I was honestly disappointed in everything. I go inside and asked them what the deal was. Why was this experience like this? What was the issue? I told them no utensils, the guy gives 1 chopstick. No napkins no wet nap or anything, and I think (but couldn't see correctly) I think he gave a single pair of chopstick. When I was talking to the girl, I explained her my frustration, and she proceeds to say "you cancelled the order" and I asked her why would I do that when I've been waiting in the car for almost an hour. If I was going to do something like that I would not leave my car running for that long for no reason. I showed her the email and said "well I didn't cancel it, it was you" and then I asked her so how come when my boyfriend was in here you couldn't even alert him about the time. She said "the avocado salmon salad takes a long time" it takes 40 mins for that salad?!? The double fried chicken wings takes about 30 mins between frying, and saucing, and packaging. How can a sushi appetizer take that long unless it was a hamachi Kama or hotate hokiyaki. She doesn't even apologize for anything and proceeds to blame it on me and the salad. There wasn't even a promised discount on there to makeup for their mistake. So you offered a solution but didn't even go by it. I also asked her why did you tell my boyfriend it'd be 20-30 mins and her response was "I didn't I told him 30-45mins" she then just said I'll return the food and give you your money back. At that point the food was already cooled off because when it got into the car I opened up the fries to see and it was just 'warm' no crunch, no heat. I told her I would never have agreed to wait another 30 mins if that's what she had said in the first place. And why would my boyfriend lie to me when he didn't even want bonchon in the first place. It was me who wanted it, so he had nothing to gain out of waiting longer. So at the end of the day, total time wasted on bonchon takeout with no takeout was about 1hr 30mins, and still left hungry. First meal of the day, great way to start my day. I then called later to speak to the manager and asked for the girls name. The guy refused to let me speak to anyone or answer my question and responded to me with "uh why" I still have my email of grubhub that my order was sent, and that it got cancelled. read more

Oh Bon Chon, how I love thee. Let me count the ways... In bones from my drumsticks. In pieces of tenders. (my favorite!) In ounces of your soy garlic sauce. In bowls of cole slaw (I'm not a big slaw person and this is for real.) In cubes of radish (had I ever eaten one before? Thanks for the intro, Bon Chon) In taps of my chopsticks. In spicy pieces of kimchi! In sections of crisparagus roll. I can't speak for the spicy drumsticks/wings/tenders, but I'm sure it is good if you can handle the heat. The space and atmosphere is nice and inviting -- open layout. Location is convenient, I only wish there was another one closer to my home (no wait, that would be awful because my entire paycheck would be gone). Not because of their prices, though; those are super fair! Anytime my coworkers and I decide to get together after work, someone is always quick to throw Bon Chon out as an option for where to go. Double crisp chicken wings. Do it. If you enjoy spice, go for the spicy soy garlic wings. They're not as spicy as the furious wings from Crave but its the enjoyable kind of spice. For 7 people we ordered 3 orders of sushi, 2 orders of the crispy salmon salad, 2 orders of the spicy seafood mix, 2 orders of large chicken wings, 1 sake cocktail, and two saporros. Total $210 including the added gratitudity for +6 people. It was a good night. I don't recommend the sake cocktail though, it is suppose to be like soju? It was served in an olive oil container and it gave us 3 rounds of shots. The alcohol content was minimal. We didn't taste anything but lychee juice and it was $18. The double crisp spicy soy garlic wings are a must! The mild is a good buffer but its not my first choice. All the sides we got were good as well. We finished everything in the end. L Always get a pitcher and 20 wings and fries for two people is a v solid move. The wings here have a good crisp and solid flakiness to the skin. Soy garlic flavor is really good but can get too sweet if you plan on eating more than 15 pieces. The only knock here is that the wings could be a bit crispier and bigger. Sometimes you pick up a small piece and wonder what happened to all those gmos they were putting in our food these days. Somehow the wings come out very fast. Hard to believe this ever happened in a well established chain restaurant. We ordered their "boneless chicken wings", it was so dry to the point that we can't even swallow it . Then I asked our waiter, "are these chicken wings?", he said this is the "boneless chicken wings" you ordered. Then I rephrased my question, "does the meat come from the wings of the chicken?", he had to find his supervisor and his supervisor repeated the same explanation again, then added that they recently "changed" their recipe, the actual thing I just had was MINCED chicken meat. Yeah, next time try put a quote around "wings", or just rename this damn dish as fried chicken meatballs and I would have stayed away from it. Btw, their reaction was like that I should be the one to know their "boneless chicken wings" is their secret special dish and shouldn't order it if I were to expect actual wings. 11/17/2018 - My daughter loves BTS (K-Pop group). My friend and I took the girls to a movie they had this weekend. We asked the girls where they wanted to eat and Bon Chon is where they decided. My girls have gone before, but I have never. They did bring their Mommy home left overs and I thought it was good. We arrived about 4:30p and there were plenty of seating. I hear though that after 6:30/7p you will probably have to wait for a table. The staff was friendly. The Atmosphere was fine. The paper place mats should go. They aren't needed and it brings down the look of the restaurant I think. And a major spot check of cleaning wouldn't hurt. I had the House Rice with chicken. I will get it again. Their seasoned fries are great. I ordered the wings, but next time I will get the strips. I prefer them. The chicken comes with cubed radish and coleslaw. Also, there was a dish I don't remember the name of cause' I didn't order it that was so tasty. It had chicken, broccoli, a drizzle on the top. And it was spicy, and delicious. I have been here for lunch as well and the lunch boxes are a great value for some great food. The last time I was there they didn't have a liquor license anymore. Not one single person I know has anything negative to say of their chicken. By far, my favorite Bon Chon location! I often come here on Saturday or Sunday. It is no doubt worth the wait. The chicken wings are always consistent here! They are crispy and flavorful and better yet, they taste even better cold (especially the spicy flavored ones). Yes, these are slightly addicting. We always have to place an extra order to go. The sushi is also decent. So are the scallion pancakes. Try the french fries, they're awesome! They do not have a big drink menu which may be their only downfall. On busier nights, seating is terrible. Usually, you're playing the waiting game. I think the reason being it's not a huge place and they do not take reservations. One complaint is that the tables are basically at arm's length, I feel guilty conversing louder than a whisper. Everything about this place was comically bad from the second I walked in and almost slipped and broke my neck because the floor was so slippery. In fact, the hardwood floors throughout the restaurant were all slippery, and there was not a wet floor sign in sight, nor did any of the many servers standing by the door warn us when we walked in. The fried chicken my boyfriend ordered was really nasty. He ordered the 10 piece boneless wings and he was only able to eat one. He said they were too greasy, hard, and dry. I noticed that most of them didn't look to be covered in the sauce he had ordered. My fried rice with bulgogi was very average. It wasn't horrible, just very bland and okay. It seemed like our server was re-assigned to cleaning the entire restaurant, and no one was re-assigned to our table, because nobody checked on us from the time we got the food to about 10 minutes after we were done eating. I went to the bathroom before leaving, and again the floor was extremely slippery with no wet floor sign in sight. Neither the paper towel dispenser nor the hand dryer were working. Went there on a Sunday night and there was a decent wait about 20 to 30 minutes. Luckily the sushi bar opened up two seats, so we only waited for a few minutes. I used to come to bonchon alot , but with other korean fried chicken joints I haven't been here in a while. As I looked through the menu, I was craving for some sushi, I perused the fish in their sushi display and decided against it. It was sad looking fish that I wouldn't want to buy to cook. They're more known for the bon chon chicken, so we got the medium combo just soy garlic. I typically order half and half but I had a bad cough and my gf can't handle the spicy. The spicy is pretty spicy, it's a late spice so if you only can handle mild, i suggest getting half and half. The chicken came out about 15 to 20 minutes later (it used used to be 30 to 45 min when they were made fresh to order). It's nice that it comes out faster but it definately isn't the same. If you asked me 4 or 5 years ago, I would suggest Bon chon, now there are better options elsewhere. read more

First time I had Bon Chon fried chicken I was hooked! I absolutely love how crispy and flavorful the chicken was...it's like a guilty pleasure of mine since it's like double fried chicken. I personally enjoy the soy garlic the most and the spicy ones are pretty spicy after a while (I can only eat and enjoy a few until it starts assaulting my taste buds). General rule of thumb is get the chicken (I usually order the combo of wings and drumsticks), and some additional side dishes such as the Korean rice cakes, fries, seafood pancakes, and etc, but chicken MUST be included or else you're doing it wrong. This location in Allston is busy just about all the time so make sure you're ready to wait if you plan on eating in, but the staff here is very friendly and welcoming so their service is phenomenal. read more

Today I decided to try it for takeout. Well.... They have a "tapas" section of the menu which is just various apps in the korean and japanese realm, salads, and other random stuff like ceviche. I got the gyoza (ordered steamed not fried) and they were AWESOME!! I didnt order a korean entree like kalbi or bulgoki... instead I got their famous korean chickenz wings/strips. I ordered the strips and wings with garlic soy sauce and honestly I just wasn't much of a fan. They barely put any sauce on the chicken and my food was a bit cold, the chicken is also very dry which confused me because of the sauce on it. When I got home I had this killer headache and stomach ache from the food. What really threw me off is our waiters attitude when we asked to split the bill. The location is nice the food is o-kay service is definitely a 2 star my waiter didn't check in on us as much and I needed something but she didn't seem to be around. I have been coming to BonChon since I was in highschool. It's been the same, always a wait on Fri-Sun evenings (quicker lines on Sundays). Still known for the fried chicken. The wings come out super hot and crispy, drizzled in soy garlic sauce. The fries here I feel like are super under rated. They are thiccccck and crispy af. The bibimbap, my only complaint was that our yolk was overcooked :( but the dish itself was still amazing :) the okonomiyaki is still as fun as ever with the squid flakes curling. I've ordered the beef japchae here before and they were able to make that not spicy :) the budae jigae is fun, but pricey and comes out spicy hahaha unlike the camrbidge bonchon, this one has a drink menu! The sushi here is honestly not too expensive. I feel like I've had the same foods here for years now haha I really should switch to trying their sushi. read more

I've been to this Bonchon multiple times whenever I visit my friends in Boston. This location is a prime hang-out location for young college students in the area which makes the Korean fried chicken joint all the more popular. We always try the soy-garlic flavor so I can only review on that, but even this one flavor was absolutely delicious. The portions are big but a bit pricey. However if you're sharing with a big group of friends it shouldn't be a problem. I love the little radish cubes that they give with every fried chicken meal, it helps cut down on the fat and is refreshing after biting into a greasy chicken consistently. The only complaint I have is the ridiculous costs of ordering side dishes. I mean it's kind of ironic how "Bonchon" is the Korean word for "side-dish" yet they make you pay $2.00+ for something as simple as kimchi or white rice, whereas in other restaurant's they are mostly free of cost and comes with the meal. Other than that, it's highly recommended in my book because the Korean fried chicken craze is not something that is simply overrated. It's a must try if you're in the area of Allston, MA! The first time I had Bonchon was when I was living in Bangkok. It soon became a staple in my diet (I say that with little to no shame). I was nervous that this branch might not be as good as the one I frequented in Bangkok - but it lived up to my expectations. I only ever get the fried chicken from Bonchon, usually a mix of the soy garlic and the spicy. I do need to mention that the spicy is SPICY. Finally made to one of their places and thanks to Frannie's obsession to chicken wings, we made it to this one. It makes me sad because it is in the location of the Stockpot (the original soup and salad place) which my mom would take me to all the time. I quickly got over that. Perfect Saturday night = kimchee fried chicken and beer. I can't believe this is my first visit, and I'm sorry after all these years I didn't try it sooner. I've frequented Shabu Zen across the street a dozen times, and how I didn't know that the most succulent crispy Asian fried chicken was just a block away is beyond me! I went with a party of four and we got a medium order of wings (half soy/ half kimchee), and we wished we ordered a larger platter! We also ordered the boneless chicken breast which comes in the same sauce, which was ok, but definitely not as good as the drumsticks and wings. We ordered an assortment of small platters including a half dozen oysters, pork buns (which were delicious), cajun tuna tataki, and if that wasn't enough, one order of spicy tuna roll. We loved the complimentary coleslaw and the daikkon pickles (which remind me of my grandma growing up making homemade pickles, mmm). They made a mistake with our order and gave us the pork belly minus the buns at first (and it was a welcome and tasty mistake, because we got that order for free!). No worries, because they quickly gave us our order of the pork buns later. While everything else is your std Japanese fare, the chicken is what keeps people coming. Seriously though, I don't like chicken generally, but when they add that seasoning to it, I just can't get enough. I also love the sides. Perfect compliments to the chicken. I've been here I believe two or three times but I'd much rather go to the one in Harvard square. The food is amazing no matter which one you decide to go to. The only reason why I like Harvard square Bon Chon better, is because of two things: parking and the wait. Parking is a huge hassle! All that's available is pretty much just street parking, which is incredibly hard to find. Then after 10 minutes of driving around looking for parking you go inside and it's unbelievably crowded with people waiting to be seated. However the menu selection here is larger than the one in Harvard square but personally it doesn't make much of a difference to me. I only go to Bon Chon for the soy garlic chicken wings!
