Arrived here around 7pm for Bonchon Pearland's soft opening. The hostess said the wait time was about an hour but ended up getting in with only a thirty minute wait time. The decor was nice and the staff was friendly. The girlfriend and I ordered the salmon avocado ball, medium combo of wings/drums with both flavors, and seasoned fries. I felt both flavors were missing something, but combining both flavors was great. The wings were smaller than other fried chicken places and the drumsticks were ridiculously huge. We ordered the salmon avocado ball because other people had said it was good, but absolutely did not like it. It tasted bland to me and didn't have more than one bite. The fries were good and crispy, which I enjoyed. A bit on the pricy side, but the food is decent. I recommend giving it a try if you've never had korean fried chicken before. Today was awkward. Normally I place an order an I just give my name. Today I had to give my number. Also today was the first day I got charged for ranch. The lady at the desk was like 95 cents so I went to the car to get a dollar. When I came back with the dollar she gone say 1.03. I said never mind. We tried the new Bonchon restaurant in the Pearland Town Center. I called at 4:00 to call for pick up. After they took my order they said they would call when the order was ready for pick up. I thought that was odd. I would rather show up right as it's done so it is still nice and hot when we eat. They called a few minutes later to make sure of some details of the order. After looking at some reviews we decided to order the medium chicken strips (20pc) all soy garlic since neither of us like spicy, we got some regular coleslaw, and an order of shrimp shumai steamed. They called at 4:20 to tell us our order was ready. When we got there they weren't busy and had a ton of servers. The slaw was good basic coleslaw but was a small portion even though it was only $2. The shrimp shumai comes with 8 pieces and is tasty. It says it comes with a drizzle of Dijon dressing but it was pretty bland and didn't have any flavor I could detect. You get a lot of chicken when you get the chicken strips! I heard the wings were small so we went with the strips and it was a good choice. The sauce seems like it was added before the frying so it isn't wet it's sort of melded with the breading. It's really good but I feel like I need a sauce or something. Bonchon used to be my favorite both before Covid and during because their orders appeared to be the same whether you were dining in or buying to go. My last two visits has changed everything. Yesterday I went ther and ordered a wings 20 peice, drumsticks 5 peice, order of potsticker dumplings, and one order of Bigolgi fried rice for $75.00. All of the food was tasty as usual, but my fried rice container was only half full and had 4 big slices of Cucumber (should have gotten for half price). 8 potstickers cost $13.00, but was tasty. Drimsticks were tasty and of good size and from a real chicken. The pigeon wings or one week old chicken wings were another story. These were the smallest wings, prompting me to not go back unless I'm dining in and can reject and not pay for unacceptable food. Please see picture below. The fries are GOOD. The wings are the freaking bomb. And the pickled radish was damn good. There's nothing that I didn't like from what I ordered but this is a wing place so just make sure to order wings. The wings were huge, juicy, delicious. Everything was perfect. The waitress was attentive and nice. However the one star I didn't give was due to the size of the raddish that came with the chicken. They were cut twice as large compared to the last few times I came here which made it not much of a pleasant to eat such big chunks. Moreover, in our bowl of raddish, 1 of the pieces was not peeled properly and the raddish's skin was still on it. This is a great place to get your korean fried chicken fix. I would honestly recommend to get either the wings or chicken strips. The chicken legs are gargantuan and if you like that crispy coating from breading and chicken skin it'll taste better if you get the wings/tenders. The choice of half soy/chili garlic is a great choice if you're indecisive. They also have a side of pickled daikon which is great to cut through the richness of the chicken. I have also tried their beef bibimbap and it tastes great if you like a ton of grilled veggies with your rice. Honestly... I don't like dining in here. The service I've gotten was always sub-par...especially the first and second times I went. Throughout all of 2017, I have only dined in 4 times total and all of these times were disappointments. Because of that, I just get food from the to-go since some of their food is okay. In the Philippines, BonChon is more of a order and serve yourself kind of restaurant. In here, it's a full-service sit-down kind of deal. Some people like it, others don't. The business model for this, however, is not one of good practice in my opinion. To clarify, it is the NOTION of taking a fast food restaurant and paying workers less and overcharging for food that I do not like. I love both fast food and full-service, but what Bonchon has done to cut corners irks me. This is because obviously, there definitely are pros and cons about taking an originally fast food restaurant and trying to transform it into a higher-class dining experience. To start off, prices are raised like crazy in the Bonchons in the US since they are allowed to pay their servers less of a base pay and they can get away with charging you for overpriced food in here. You are basically paying for fast food that costs them hardly a fraction of what you are paying them to make, and that is before tip. That is smart on corporate's behalf I admit, but just imagine Burger King being transformed into a full-service restaurant and raising prices...yeah, no. Altogether, It's just kind of off-putting how overpriced the food is, though. Seriously, it's hard to feed a family here for a reasonable price for what the food actually is. If the service was good, I would frequent this place more, but honestly all the servers look like they could care less...they're always on their phone and while they wait they are on their phone behind the bar. Also, when I dine in, the floor is pretty dirty most of the time...I find that concerning that they don't actively clean their floors and instead opt to check their phones. I like their takoyaki though, but like many others have said, sometimes it tastes very underdone. Their chicken is a hit or miss. Their chicken strips are pretty decent, but the drumsticks, while big, are probably just chickens injected with water before or after buying them...the chicken is pretty flavorless after you eat the skin. Dine-in is an absolute no-no, but take-out can be acceptable. They do a decent job with to-go orders, but a few times they get my name wrong and give me the wrong order, so always double check. Food tastes really greasy, but I love the radishes. 2.8 stars for the food altogether, I suppose. Overall service though just one. When this place first opened last year I had a horrible stomach ache within the first two weeks and I have given them a long time to be better but they've made little improvement. I love chicken wings so when I saw the famous korean chicken wing place opened in Houston while I was here, I was super excited to try it. The place is quite spacious and has a good amount of lunch special options. For lunch you can get 8 wings, 8 drumsticks or a combo w/ soy ginger or spice or half/half sauces. We got the combo plate which turned out to be 2 chicken wings, 2 small drummies, and 2 larger drumsticks that almost looked like turkey legs they were so big. The larger drumsticks were so big I kind of wish we went with the 8 wings instead. Both sauces were delicious, I prob would prefer the ginger but the hot also just the right spicy-ness level. With the wings you get one side option, we chose kimchi which I thought had too much fluid in it. We also paid for a side of pickled radish. We also got the tteokbokki which has rice cakes, fish cakes, mixed with japchae noodles and topped with seaweed wraps and cheese. The tteokbokki sauce was perfect, the right color and not too spicy. The cheese makes everything better. I could prob have done without the noodles. Lastly, we got the pork buns on the lunch special. This was ok, but harder for me to bite into.
