The first time I had Bonchon was probably 10 years ago in the east coast, and I'm glad it made its way around the country, specifically around the Houston area. In the early stages of the restaurant, it was solely a Korean fried chicken joint, but now, they've expanded their menu to other dishes like japchae, bibimbap, fried rice, bulgogi, and then also include apps such as takoyaki, potstickers, sliders, tacos, shumai, and much more. I only crave and would travel for their famous fried chicken. I love the simple taste of the soy garlic and the crunch of the skin. Unlike other fried chicken places, I noticed that it may take a bit longer to get your order of fried chicken, but I get it, the distinct crisp of the skin is perfection in my book, and well worth the wait. If you enjoy a little heat with your chicken, there is a spicy option. This is a specialty fried chicken restaurant, not a fast food spot. I've been here a couple times and every time I've been its never busy. Service: The service was okay, nothing bad, nothing spectacular. A lot of the staff don't seem to smile often but other than that it was average. Food: I have to say the fried chicken (wings and drumsticks) is really crunchy and flavorful. I love the crunch it gives you when you bite in. However, I can't say the same for the strips. The strips are a little inconsistent as some parts of it are soggy and some (very little) are crunchy. I wish it was crunchy all around. My sister got the bibimbap and it wasn't bad! I felt like it was a little more Americanized and less like the bibimbap I'm used to. When I arrived the girl that took my order took it incorrect and I had to wait for them to prepare it. I ordered chicken Katsu. It came without veggies. Their menu clearly has a picture and states it comes with veggies. When I called to ask, the male That answered said they stopped putting veggies on the plate. The food here, in my opinion, is tolerable at best. From the few items I've been here, I haven't been very impressed. The bull dak was the most disappointing. The rice cakes were okay but the actual dish itself was in-your-face spicy.. in a bad way. Spicy food is usually my favorite but this was JUST spicy. No flavor in the spice. If a food is meant to be extremely spicy then that's fine but there should be more dimension to the dish other than just burning hot. Other than that, the fried rice is okay, my friend said it had a unique flavor that she found very interesting. Chicken had a fairly high spice level. The garlic was seasoned well but no spice at all. The bibimbap was fresh and had some buckwheat filler under the meat. Maybe it wasn't buckwheat, but it was some kind of grain added to the portion. The kimchi was not spicy and the pickled white radish was both sweet and pickled; not spicy and had some odd after taste. The spot was clean and had a good crowd. The wait was a bit longer than expected. The only thing I'd order again would be the chicken. It was very, very crispy and flavorful. The sides were not quite authentic in flavor. Chicken strips were overly breaded with sauce barely drizzled. The spicy version packed serious heat but no flavor! I really used to love the wings here because of the flavors and the prices. I still crave their KFC but the quality has dramatically decreased while their prices have increased. Sooooo... recently visited this establishment just before the dinner rush (around 530ish). Not busy at all. only one family sitting in the dining room. Service was on point the young man was quick and attentive. The menu was okay had not a lot of options but still had a good selection. Ordered apps and main meals... for the apps had the combo dumplings (if you like HOT then the spicy option doesn't disappoint) and pork buns (not bad, had good flavor, just soggy buns are not my thing). Apps overall were 5 out of 10. Main dishes were another story... the bulgogi was alright flavor was missing had way to much onion, on the upside the beef was cooked perfectly... for the price though not worth it. It was the most pricey dish but lacked to support the price. The next dish was the Japchae was unfortunately the same...lacked flavor and really was disappointing because the visual was good. Now don't get me wrong I will return to try the fried chicken options then will make a final decision on their establishment. So glad we gave this place a try! We were so hot from the arts and craft festival, we needed to go inside to eat lunch. The space is really simple and clean, very well kept. The service was friendly and fast! We had a group of 4, and we all shared a 20 count of strips, French fries, and onion rings. It was plenty for 4 people! For our sauces, we got half spicy, and half sweet crunch. Most everyone at our table likes spicy stuff, but their spicy isn't kidding! It is HOT! Tasty, but if you kind of like spice, or like it a little bit, stay away! This will be too much! The sweet crunch was a great combo with it, cause the sweetness help cut through the spicy lingering in your mouth. Sweet crunch was so tasty! I generally prefer spicy to sweet, but the flavor of the sweet crunch was so tasty! It isn't overly sweet, and had so much flavor, that paired so well with the chicken and the light coating. This review is only for this location and not for the whole franchise. Honestly, this is my favorite store out of all the Korean fried chicken locations I've tried in Houston. Food:4 What I like about this location is that it's really consistent. The chicken is always the same size, crisp, and juicy! Also, even though there are only 2 flavors available it seems to be the norm for Korean fried chicken and honestly it's all you need. However, how it tastes will differ by person. I am pretty sensitive to seasoning so I like the soy garlic and it doesn't taste bland to me. However, my bother said it tasted bland but he's use to saltier foods then me so I think it depends on the person. If you're wondering how spicy their chicken is; it's a favorable spicy if you enjoy spicy food and can handle Asian spicy food. If you can handle Indian level spice then it won't be spicy at all and you'll wonder why your other friends are making a fuss about the spiciness. However, if you can't tolerate spicy food well (you can only go up to mild salsa) then it may be too spicy for you and it'll be the type of spicy that keeps burning in your mouth. My go to order is the half and half chicken strip lunch special with a side of seasoned fries or pickled radish. I also get a side of ranch dressing to reduce the heat since I can't handle spicy food that well. Service:3.5 I have found that it depends on the day you go. i'm sure everyone knows that the two main things that make a restaurant great is the food and the service. to say that bonchon excelled in these two areas the day i went would be so far from the truth. it was 8:30pm and me and a group of friends came in to eat. the restaurant was completely empty when we entered and when we told them how many people, the host/server looked at us like we just gave her the worst news of her life. it was so shocking to hear that THAT many people were coming into the restaurant that even the dude behind the bar goes "12 people? are you f*cking serious?" yeah man WE R SERIOUSSSS! #shookt from beginning to the end, service was just complete garbage. the girl who served us just looked so miserable and uninterested. she gave us sheepish remarks every time a question was asked. to top it off, she had airpods in. lol i'm sorry but i don't know any establishment that lets their employees have headphones/airpods while they're on the clock. when we got our food, the wings were so small as if they were not properly breaded and made with hatred (because good food is made with love lmao). they were literally the size of my thumb (not pictured) and my thumb is pretty small. and to finish up this review with the best part of it all.... we got served undercooked chicken. i don't know what else to say besides bonchon, do better. and airpods are cool but doing your job is cooler. read more

This was my first visit to this new restaurant but my mom's 2nd visit. Upon entering, you can definitely get a K-pop vibe to the place. Service can be a little spotty sometimes. But I recently had a baby a few months ago and now have revisited and go to change my child in the bathroom and there was no changing table. In men or women's . I alerted our waitress who was also the Floor manager at this lunch visit and she alerted me that someone before had changed their baby on this kinda dresser that's outside in the hall between the two bathrooms. It's completely unsafe and unsanitary. The last thing I want is strangers looking at my son undressed and I'm sure the last thing the diners want is to smell a dirty diaper while eating. Came in on a Thursday afternoon around 12PM. It wasn't packed at all. I was seated immediately. The lunch menu offers specials for $9.95. I got the 8 wings (half/half) which included a side and I chose seasoned fries. The two flavors of Korean fried chicken are spicy and soy garlic. Let me tell you, when they say spicy....it's Korean spicy. Those wings were FIRE. I usually eat spicy and can tolerate spicy Korean wings but these were the spiciest I've ever had. The soy garlic was a nice salty flavor which I really enjoyed. The wings were incredibly crispy, which is a plus, even with being drenched in sauce. I don't know how the Koreans do it, but I love it. The seasoned fries were lightly seasoned with herbs and some cheese. They were crispy and not too salty. Overall, I'll definitely be back. I'd say 3.5-4 stars is pretty accurate. This is a newer restaurant so I'm sure there is some room for improvement as they figure things out. We were shopping yesterday at the Pearland Town Center when this restaurant caught my husband's eye. Korean food isn't something I've ventured into but you should always try something at least once. I ordered the bolgogi with broccoli and steamed rice and my husband ordered the spicy chicken strips with seasoned fries. I wasn't a fan of the bolgogi.. the beef was pretty chewy which instantly made me not interested in finishing it. The flavoring was good though. The spicy chicken strips on the other hand.. AMAZING! Chicken was super juicy and the breading was somehow thin but very crispy. The taste was sweet at first, then the spice really hits you. I would come back just for this chicken. And I'm a picky eater! The service was okay. Waiter was super sweet but was a little slow taking our orders and getting refills. First of all, Korean fried chicken is a glorious thing. Not Kentucky fried chicken. Korean fried chicken. Dak & Bop first exposed me to this wonderful delicacy and they've set the bar pretty high. Fat Bao, on Wednesdays, also does a mean KFC night. When I found out Bonchon, a Korean fried chicken chain, was coming to Pearland, I was pretty pumped. Bonchon is located in the Pearland Town Center right next to Fish City. Sadly, Bonchon failed to deliver. Before we get to the chicken, Bonchon does have a decent variety of menu items i.e. tacos, fries, baos, etc. But, the focus is on the chicken. There are several combos that have an assortment of drumsticks, wings, and strips. There are only two flavors to choose from: soy (mild) and a spicy option. Wish there were a couple more choices here. I went with the small combo which doesn't come with a side order but it's quite a bit of food (drumsticks and wings). The wings are relatively small while the drumsticks are a bit perplexing. Some of the drumsticks were gigantic while others wore normal-sized. Are we using a combination of dinosaur meat and chicken meat? While the sauce was pretty good, I'm not a fan of how the chicken was fried. There was a crispy exterior but there was a large pocket of air in between the skin and the meat. This took away from the chicken. They also give you some complimentary radishes which smell pretty awful so I stayed away from that. The interior is clean and the service was good but you have better options in Houston. read more

Parking: Restaurant is located in Pearland Town Center and there is plenty of parking spots here. Time and Day: Came on a Thursday at 6:00 PM and it was 40% full. There wasn't an issue getting a table and we were quickly guided to a table. Food: I debated between the signature fried chicken and the Bibimbap and went with the Bibimbap ($12.95) with bulgogi (+$2.00). However, I soon regret it after my first bite. The food was at strangely warm. The kind of warmth you expect when you leave food sitting out somewhere 20 minutes. The bulgogi was dry, flavorless as if they microwaved it in the back. I rather have the cheap Bibimbap served on Korean Air than the Bibimbap I had here. Worse part was that the lack of vegetables and bulgogi. I guess they wanted to fill me up with rice instead. Overall, the Bibimbap was terrible and I don't recommend it at all. Food gets a (1/5). Service: Service was good. Our waiter was nice, attentive, and explained the menu to use because we were new to the restaurant. Waiter also periodically checked up on us. Service gets a (3/5). Price: $14.95 for Bibimbap that tasted worse than airplane food? Yeah, don't get the Bibimbap. Overall: I feel this is the cheap, fast food version of Korean food. I haven't tried the fried chicken but I had high hope for a Korean restaurant (or at least somewhat Korean) near Pearland Town Center. If you don't want to read the long review I'm about to write then just take this from it. This place is a disgrace to Korean food. (I would know, I'm Korean) I wouldn't even really consider this a decent Americanization of Korean food either. Upon walking in, I was greeted by a seemingly nice hostess. She then proceeded to sit me in the back of the restaurant by the kitchen. It was 1:00 pm on a Wednesday so there was hardly anyone there so thus it wasn't like there weren't other options of tables. The hostess took my drink order and I didn't receive my water for approximately 10 minutes and eventually my waitress decided to pop by another five minutes after that. The waitress took my food order which was Tteokboki with a side of pickled radish. For some extremely strange reason, Tteokboki is smothered in mozzarella cheese at this restaurant. This is not how the dish traditionally made I would like to add. I knew this prior to ordering so I requested that no cheese be put on my order. The waitress said ok and went on her way. I sipped my water and waited for 45 minutes to receive my order. Now if I was making this dish from scratch for my entire family it would take 30 minutes. So the fact that it took this long was ridiculous. As I sat there all I could think about was how insulted I was by the fact that my culture was a placemat on the table before me. Random phrases and tidbits of history. It seemed as though they were trying to portray that this was an authentic place but I can assure you. It isn't. I was just about to leave when my meal finally arrived and to my dismay, it was covered in mozzarella cheese. I waited 45 minutes just for my order to be wrong. Not only was there cheese on it but the cheese was starting to harden. So obviously one can conclude that my meal had been sitting out for a while. This dish was extremely hard to eat because of the half melted cheese all over it but I tried to muscle though it. The fish cake and rice cake were decent but the sauce was so incredibly spicy my eyes were tearing up. It was so spicy that it wasn't even edible. I came into this restaurant looking for comfort food and I received some very distant unappetizing relative of my favorite Korean dish. I will not be returning. read more

After giving the place a few months to get their stuff together my husband an I decided to give this place another go. The service has improved, significantly compared to our last visit. This time we decided to try to soy drumsticks, French fries, and their bulgogi fried rice. The chicken was very bland. The batter was super hard, almost too hard. It was like eating a cracker off the chicken. Actually the soy glaze tastes exactly like the Asian soy crackers you can get at the super market. If they actually marinated the chicken in the sauce they use for the glaze and maybe change up their batter or don't over fry it then the chicken would actually be decent. The fries were few and fairly crispy. But I did catch our server eating the fries he dropped from our order. The bulgogi in the fried rice was pretty good. But again it's very little in the fried rice the rice was pretty good but they consistency of the diced items is lacking. I could be eating a perfectly diced onion in the fried rice but then I'll have a giant chunk in another bite. At the end of the day we probably won't be coming back and won't recommend this place. So glad that this place is finally open! We went and were surprised that it's more restaurant than take out so we were immediately greeted and sat. Soft opening so they wanted to get things right. The manager even came by and was very nice. Food- really great! We had Chicken Katsu, Bibimbap, Udon noodle soup and house fried rice with tofu. The Katsu was very close to the same as the Korean version I had in Korea. Bibimbap was very hot and good, especially the bulgogi. Soup was excellent and the tofu was lightly crisp as it is supposed to be. Atmosphere- a bit loud but not bad. Loved the place mats with Korean.
