We've been coming to Cafe 501 for many years and have never been disappointed. This visit mirrored…read moreour past experiences. The menu is new (love that) with some old favorites as well. The entrance has had a light refresh as well. Gone is the big glass dessert display case but the additional walking space is nice. Sadly we learned that the cakes are being discontinued, RIP the wonderful carrot cake. Fortunately we snagged one of the last pieces. It's my understanding that cookies and other sweet treats will still be available. The menu is loaded with new and exciting choices. Deciding what to choose was a great problem to have. We started with the Trio Dipper with house made chips and balloon bread, which is like pita bread on steroids and just as delicious. The dip selections were terrific and we were brought more chips when ours ran low. Two of us ordered the Tuscan Chicken. They were exceptional bites. They were parmesan breaded chicken fritters stuffed with the tomatoes and cheese. It's an inventive take on a traditional recipe and a tasty home run! My husband ordered the Chicken Piccata, looking for a lower calorie option. The lemon butter wine sauce was delicious and it's a terrific option. The last guest chose the fried chicken which is an old and familiar favorite. You absolutely cannot go wrong. We ended the night sharing a piece of carrot cake and a salted caramel cookie.

My wife and I have eaten here 4 or 5 times in the past year. We mostly hit the Sunday brunch (table…read moreservice) but have also had lunch (counter service). We obviously enjoy the food, quality service and ambiance. It is owned by the same family that owns Boulevard Steak House and Sparrow Italian in the same building (those are also top notch, but pricey). 501 has some killer quiche, very good huevos rancheros and a good Cuban. But we both opted for the steak and eggs this time. The eggs were cooked a perfect over medium as requested and the medallions were also a medium and reminiscent of what we have had next door (coincidence?). We had another solid dining experience and will (and have) bring friends here without hesitation.

Gage, our waiter was very professional and helpful. He guided us through the menu and helped us make good choices. We started with three mule cocktails. We had the Oaxacan, the Moscow and Kentucky Mules. Everyone enjoyed the cocktails. One thing that stood out to me for my Oaxacan Mule is that the Mezcal's smoky flavor really shown through and it was not overly sweet. A very clean cocktail, which I highly appreciate! We ordered the Chef's Salad Wrap with Onion Rings, French Dip with the tomato soup, and the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with seasonal side of grits. I enjoyed the Chef's Salad Wrap but I would probably be a little more bold next time and get the Cortez or the Reuben. I craved a lighter choice and was more sinful with the over the top delicious onion rings! Wowowow! Hubby enjoyed his soup and French dip and son enjoy his Philly cheesesteak and grits. I would definitely love to revisit and try more of their items.

This is my first time seeing and trying their brunch menu. They have great brunch options and the brunch bowl I got was great. The bowl with loaded with queso and potatoes. It was very filling and just enough food.

We were greeted warmly and offered to take any table as only a couple other tables were taken. The restaurant is clean and homey with a European/ French influence in some of the food items and decor. The soft jazz playing added to the French bistro vibe. Being our first visit, we chatted with the new owner who took over from her sister. She was very friendly and engaging. When asked why beignets were on the menu she said because she loved them and travels to visit family in France on the regular. We ordered one to try and it was just like what you find at Cafe Du Monde in Jackson Square. The croissants looked tempting and like what we've had in French restaurants, but we didn't have any. The menu is undergoing a few changes expanding the breakfast offerings but will retain most of the menu items. The server was also very friendly, thorough and checked on us several times. He was also very engaging and helped us with the menu. I had the Western Omelet, potatoes and toast (brioche). The "European Butter blend" had a much better flavor than the usual packaged butter. The omelet was good and the salsa very tasty, but not spicy. My wife loved that they offered "Small Bites" for smaller appetites. She had 1 egg (cooked a perfect over medium), 2 slices of bacon and French toast (1 slice cut in half). She enjoyed her meal. We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu.
