My HVAC was having issues keeping up upstairs, and insulation was pretty thin in my attic (there…read morewas one bay with none at all). I decided to call Koala to get a quote. The quote: they were pretty backed up getting one scheduled, but once we did, they arrived when they said, communicated well, gave a reasonable price, and let me know about an NES rebate that would pay for nearly half the cost of the job! With the rebate, it was a no brainer to proceed with the work. The work appointment: communication around the appointment was a disaster (this is the minus 1 star). The first time they showed up on the wrong day. I was at work, so the install didn't happen. I called the office and got it rescheduled on the day it was originally supposed to be. I made it clear I was only available during a specific window on that day. On the proper day, the crew showed up several hours early, and I wasn't available. No communication or anything. I called the scheduling center and they apologized and sent the crew back out a couple of hours after the original appointment. The crew: friendly guys and great communication. They got to work quickly, put down plastic to keep from tracking spray foam and other attic ickiness on to the floors, and brought pictures to show me as the work progressed. They found a major issues with my HVAC unit that 3 other HVAC techs missed - there was a huge hole in the duct work (insert dizzy face emoji here). They fixed that while they were up there sealing the ducts. It took them a couple of hours and they were able to wrap things up. The results: big improvements, but some technical oddness. Overall they accomplished what I was hoping for and for a reasonable price. My electric bill went down about 15-20% and the HVAC keeps up. If I'm nitpicking, they left a spray can and spray gun and some scrap insulation in the attic; the insulation wasn't perfectly even (thinner on the edges); and the duct insulation was strange (they spray foamed over the duct insulation joints instead of sealing the actual duct work inside the insulation - so there's not really any air sealing benefits there). Overall, I'm happy with the results, and I'd definitely hire them again.

I recently wrote a 5-star review for Koala and feel the need to write another. The integrity of…read morethis firm and the people (it is all about the people) who work here are beyond reproach. After the initial job was done it was discovered that we had some gaps. I would not say those gaps were 100% Koala's fault but they took full ownership and got their people out here asap to help me make it all right. Again, it was not 100% their fault but they took ownership and made it right while the other company did the opposite trying to blame everyone else when they had the last clear chance to avoid the entire problem and then lied about what they did and did not do. In any event, a firm's true character is best tested when things go sideways. Koala made no excuses and prioritized their schedule to make this right. Jon, Cody and Ron came out today to make it right and did so in a pleasant and professional manner. Those guys are a credit to the firm and to the industry. If only all construction firms could match this level of integrity and customer service, there would be very little to complain about. Again, they stay in constant contact with me, did what they promised to do and sent a superb team out to my place to make it right. Thank you, BJ and your entire team. I will recommend your firm at every opportunity.

When I first moved in, it sounded like a freight train was taking off when the second stage kicked in, and papers/curtains would literally fly around the room. I've had two other techs come look at it so far. The first tech disconnected the second stage, which caused a ton of humidity issues last summer. The second tech said he could dump the extra air in the garage or outside. I gave up last year and ran a dehumidifier to make it through the end of summer. This summer, I decided I'd try one more time before looking at replacement units. Ben Fraser from Roscoe Brown came out and spent quite a bit of time digging in. He found one major issue - the TXV was not set properly, so the unit was not cooling properly. He reconfigured the valve and reconnected the 2nd stage. Finally, he adjusted the airflow to be much more reasonable for the ductwork. The result is much cooler air, much better dehumidification, and no more freight train! It's not perfect, but it will keep me from having to buy a new unit for several more years. The price was fairly high compared to some of the non-name-brand techs, but the results were great. I was happy with the price considering the results.

(First mistake) They came out and did an estimate, told me they'd remove the old insulation and the new stuff in. Come to find out they didn't remove the old and just laid the new stuff on top of the old. I called the company and I had to hear about how the workers who installed it complain about not enough hours and work, but when told what to do, they don't do it. Another guy came back out and fixed the problem. So I tried again to get another room of my house done which was much smaller than the two that I had originally done. I was first told if it was only one bag of insulation there would be no charge and when they came out they said it would be two bags first red flag. After installation it dawned on me that I didnt see two bags come in and the bill for the second round of work was only $20 cheaper than the first. I called the company and was forwarded to the manager. I was told he'd talk to the guy who did my estimate and they'd get back to me. 3 weeks go by no call, but another bill. I call to inform them that I'm not paying until I can get an explanation of my charges. I finally get the manager on the phone who tells me billing is not done in measurements, no by bags, so I ask how could my first job of two rooms cost $250 and then one room cost $130. He again said he'd have the guy you did my estimate call me. Three weeks go by no call, but another bill. I call again after waiting another week or so. I was told the manager was out of town for two weeks, but they would give him the message as again, I told them I won't pay until I get an explanation of charges. Now one week after that call, I get another bill this time with a stamp of an out of town number to call for billing. Do not use this company. If they can't call customers back who are inquiring about their billing don't bother. In every call I have been courteous and professional and just looking for answers. I guess I'll take as long to pay as they take to get back with me.
