We had a small issue with our fireplace so we reached out to Sweeps and Ladders to assist. The Owner was in the area and took it upon himself to stop by. The issue was as simple as replacing the battery for the box. Neither one of us had the correct batteries - he took it upon himself to go to the closest gas station to purchase the batteries. He may have been gone 10mins - came back, replaced the batteries and the bonus was the great conversation that came with it. Their inspection was really thorough and good. Worth the expense. Even included drone shots of top of chimney.

They were quick to respond and to come to the house, but they told us that we needed a new fireplace, when the only problem was a pilot that needed cleaning. And they charged me a service fee and didn't fix my problem. I had to look for another company, and I found one that came very quickly and cleaned the pilot, and even put in new 'logs' for free. read more

Had them do a quote on our chimney they came back at a crazy number, so I had another company come out and look and give me a quote. Sweeps and ladders wanted 13k more for the same work as the other company. Be careful with these people. Same exact work. read more

Tech that came out was inexperienced and tried to sell me on a complete renovation instead of fix my current unit. He then never sent me a quote on what he tried to sell me. The main office did have good customer service and waived the fee when I complained. read more

Over inflated pricing. For example their suggested scaffolding charge is over $3000, while others charge $600. Estimates include unnecessary work that also causes over inflation of prices. For instance a new flue isn't necessary for an unvented fireplace. Several other chimney companies who believe in fair play and honest dealing with consumers. When they looked at my Sweeps and Ladder estimate, there was one word.....crazy. read more

My husband dealt with Tommy more than I did, as I left almost immediately after Tommy arrived to get our child at school... Tommy Nelms and his company Sweeps & Ladders were recommended to me by the store where I purchased a gas fireplace insert. Before I have the fireplace converted from wood to gas, I wanted to make sure it was clean inside so that we would not have any fire risk. I was reassured by the fact that Tommy has been a firefighter (according to his website) for a number of years. It does make sense that someone who fights fires -- and who is a certified chimney sweep -- would know something abut what causes fires and how to prevent them. It looked as though I would have to wait a few weeks for Tommy to perform the chimney inspection, but he managed to fit me into his calendar for a next-day inspection. Impressive! He showed up right on time, was courteous and professional. Vacuumed out debris from the chimney, went up on the roof to make sure the chimney cap and everything looked good up there. I thought the price was fair and he made sure to tidy up our home before he left. I also liked that he offered to take his shoes off before entering the home. We never wear shoes in the house and it's always nice when servicepeople are courteous enough to give you the option of taking their shoes off. Much appreciated! (Especially since the front walk is kind of muddy from my ongoing effort to dislodge the root ball of a holly tree.) Anyway, really happy to have connected with Tommy and his company, Sweeps & Ladders. Forget trying to EARN your business. The company makes you pay for them to come out and give an estimate! More than $100, and if they decide to go in the chimney it's $200+. That isn't even for work to begin. He explained what was probably causing the smoke to come out of the fireplace, offering a few solutions, and letting me know they'd come back out if none of those worked once it was cold enough to light a fire. I called another company first because I my burner wasn't working on my gas fireplace and they told me they needed to do a maintenance appointment for around $250 BEFORE they would look at what was causing the issue because I was a new customer and they had to get familiar with my fireplace. I ended up calling Sweeps and Ladders and they only charged me $85 service charge that they apply to my bill when I get the work done.They were early for their appointment, very polite and neat and I was very happy with the service. read more
