The restaurant is in a weird location in west midtown but the vibes once you're there are great. The server I had the last time I went may be one of my favorite servers I've ever had. He was so energetic and helpful. The food is pretty good. I would say it's above your average Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. I would not recommend the house margarita though. This is a solid Tex mex restaurant in this area. I came with a small group of colleagues and we were well taken care of. I wish I remembered our servers name, he was an older gentleman, and he was great. The decor inside reminds me of a perpetual dia de los muertos celebration, which was off putting for some of my colleagues but fine by me. The table had nachos and guacamole to start, both which were really good. I had a shrimp taco and a pork taco with pineapple. Both were good and were nicely sized for the price. This was our first time visiting the Bone Garden Cantina near Midtown Atlanta. The interior is vibrantly and colorfully decorated with what appears to be a day of the dead Mexican theme. Caitlin, our server, was friendly and attentive. She gave good recommendations and was able to describe and compare the traditional menu items to those on the special menu. I tried the adobo steak quesadilla from the special menu based upon Caitlin's recommendation. It tasted very fresh and quite flavorful. BGC is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. It is in my constant mix of places to eat. If it's a hot day, you can sit inside in the AC and enjoy their cool decor. If you have your pup, you can eat under the umbrella on the patio. Their cheese dip is one of my favorite cheese dips in the world. The bone garden salad is excellent. If I haven't eaten a lot, I add chicken to it to get more protein. I usually get tacos. I used to get their hibiscus taco, but they don't have it anymore, so now I get the mushroom and the shrimp. Some friends went to the boat show at the congress center and decided to eat nearby. Been here several times as my oldest lives nearby. Across from the Tol Golf downtown. It is an odd place, or location, at least. Back side of a business complex. If you weren't specifically looking for it, you would drive past it. Day of the dead themed artwork throughout the place. A little dark but comfy. I love this place. Food is always good. Had their Thursday special, birria brisket tacos. Delicious. Omg! This place is so cool! It's apparently the same people that own the Vortex - so same vibes. The food here is incredible! I will say, it get BUSY here, but considering how good the food and service is, you can't be mad at that. Even with how busy they were, they served us pretty quick. I got their Birria Enchiladas and the sauce that comes on those enchiladas - AMAZING! My husband got their Birria tacos and the consume was so good. I know most places are on the liquid side (here included) when it comes to consume, but it still had so much flavor! So points for that. Most places fall flat on the consume. The queso here, so good! I can not stand this place. The drinks were honestly not good and weren't even what we ordered. I tried to walk in and the hostess was SO rude. We were in everyone's way but they wouldn't seat us either and it was very frustrating. Once our whole party was there we were seated and then it got worse. I split a burrito and everyone received their food except for me. Of course. Then it took 45 minutes to get my meal so I just asked for it to go. Would've been nice to eat there. Wow, this place rocked my socks. Guacamole, chips and salsa are fantastic! I also had a margarita the spicy one I cannot remember the name, but I did enjoy it not too spicy . I had tacos and was able to sample a few of the tacos I didn't get because my friends got filled up too quick. Carne Asada taco was fan friggin fantastic. The goat taco was delicious the spicy taco I don't recommend eating like I did, but I would recommend eating. Service was fantastic. We had a large group of 10 and they took amazing care of us. This place has a lot of amazing art and things to look at so definitely open your eyes and look around. A friend of mine local to Atlanta treated our group of 3 to lunch at Bone Garden Cantina. It was a Saturday around 1pm when we walked in. There was a short wait, less than ten minutes, and we were taken to a table. The staff were friendly, despite how busy the restaurant was (no open tables). We enjoyed chips and queso as an appetizer and I have to celebrate this queso. The texture was so smooth and it tasted fresh and not like fake cheese. There is a slight kick to it, but I wouldn't say it's spicy. Our food came out quickly and there were no complaints from the table. We enjoyed one of the specials - the steak adobo quesadilla, a house salad, and the birria brisket enchiladas. Went here for lunch one day. Ordered the queso to start and it was good. Chips could use some seasoning. The steak burrito was awesome. A little spicy, which I wasn't expecting, but it was great! Service was great, no complaints! They lose 1 star because they don't have fountain soda. I can drink a can of coke at home, so that was lame. Also, they need some signage out front directing one where to go once they get into the parking lot, it's all the way around the back side, which you wouldn't know if you've never been. While on a trip to ATL, a large group of colleagues and I decided to go to Bone Garden Cantina for dinner. The décor was so fun and this was definitely a unique place to visit. As someone from Texas, I wasn't sure what to expect for Mexican food in ATL but I was curious to see how it compares to our Tex-Mex. We decided to order a large variety of things to share as a group in addition to our individual meals. I tried the following: - House Margarita: I love a good margarita and this wasn't it. I thought it tasted very watery and like the margarita mix was store bought. I didn't order a second and wouldn't recommend this. - The Three Amigos: average trio dip with chips. This is a standard appetizer to order so I would order it again even though neither the queso nor guacamole were "great". - Birria Brisket Enchiladas (without tomatillo sauce): The flavor was good but this definitely had a kick to it. - Banana Empanadas: I haven't ever had a banana empanada so this was good to try. Of the two desserts, this was my favorite. - Almond Flan: An OK desert that was fun to try Our entire group found the meal to be very spicy to the point that not everyone was able to eat their food despite it being delicious otherwise. If you have a low spice tolerance (like me), I would suggest asking the server. As for service, it was OK. Our server was friendly and did her best to accommodate such a large group but the other staff in the restaurant were a bit short with us if asked a question. All in all, I'm glad we tried it but it isn't a place I plan to go back to if every in ATL. read more

So taking bites of my s/o and friends dishes and my sangria are the reason why this review is not a 2. I ordered the tamales and hated them. This is a strong word I normally don't use to describe a bad dish, but they were awful. I'm not sure it was a bad night or if tamales are not a usual dish they sell, but I highly recommend not ordering them. I tried their chicken and pork one. The chicken one was incredibly dry. The tamale corn part was dense and dry. The chicken itself was not flavorful and dry. The pork one was better, the pork was juicy and tender but once again the tamale tasted dry... a bit stale? It's hard to describe. Overall this dish wasn't... good and if I ever go back I will not be ordering. However my date and friend ordered the steak tacos and birria brisket enchilada were delicious. Drive around until you see the colorful patio, and parking is free. Venue and Atmosphere This restaurant is owned by the same people as the Vortex, and the influence shows. The restaurant is decked out with ornate skeletons on motorcycles, as well as massive sugar skulls. Food and Beverages My tacos (chivo: goat, pollo: chicken, and al pastor: steak) were perfectly marinated and cooked. Their house guacamole was also super fresh and the salad dressing should be bottles and sold in stores. It was that good. My partner suggested that we come here after she came for happy hour with her coworkers and I'm so glad that she did. Let's get into it! Location and Parking They are located in an industrial complex in West midtown. You have to drive all the way around the entire complex as the restaurant is located in the back and on the end. There is a large parking lot so there's plenty of free parking to choose from. Reservations, Venue, and Atmosphere My partner and I did not have a reservation when we went, we went on a weekday so there was no wait and we were seated immediately. I could see it getting crowded the weekends, so I would consider calling ahead then. The venue is very cute, they have indoor, bar, as well as patio seating. The atmosphere is causal, you can come here for happy hour with friends like my partner originally did, or you can come here for a cute and casual dinner date. Food and drinks For drinks I got the Chief's Texas Margarita. It was delicious and strong. My partner had the pomegranate margarita, which she also said was strong but delicious as well. My partner is a salad lover, so we started off with the Bone Garden Salad with grilled chicken. It was a good portion and could either be shared or eaten just by one person. For my entree I got the birria brisket enchiladas, and it was just as good as it sounds and I'm not sure the photo does it justice. Two beef brisket enchiladas, with cheese and red sauce topped with sour cream and quest fresco. It was also served with rice and beans and a salad on the side. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the cheese and sauces were perfectly paired together. The rice and beans were also flavorful. My partner opted for tacos, she had the chive, Tinga de pollo, and the al pastor, all of which she raved about in between bites. Service Our server was great. She was attentive to our needs and checked in on us to make sure we didn't want or need anything. Food and drinks came out in reasonable time and it was all good. Verdict Bone Garden in a hidden gem that I could definitely see myself coming back here and sharing a pitcher of margaritas on the patio with my partner or my friends. This place is very unassuming. I would have thought I was in the wrong place if there wasn't a Day of the Dead statute outside. The service was amazing. They were fast, friendly and we had a great conversation. Everything is priced extremely reasonable. The theming was so fun in this place and the server told us that the owner is the wife of the husband who owns the Vortex. You can definitely see this place is similar. My husband and I started with the Chips and Salsa which had a bit of heat but super refreshing and you can definitely tell this is fresh and not canned. For our entrees, my husband got the Spicy Pork Burrito which he loved. He loves spice and he said this was VERY spicy. They do not skimp on the spice! I ordered the Carne Adobo Taco which did fall apart which was disappointing but again, super fresh and delicious. I got that with a side of Esquite in the bowl aka Mexican Corn. This was super salty to me so I couldn't finish it but had it been less slow, I would have absolutely loved it. Regardless, I loved this place. We didn't wait at all for an outside table on a Friday night either and food came out super fast. Inside decor is really cool but they blast the AC in there! We started with a pitcher of house margaritas which were delish and strong. Our guacamole app was veryyy small portion wise but the fresh tortilla tips were amazing! We sampled lots of menu items including cheese quesadilla with jalapeños, rice and beans, shrimp taco, cauliflower taco, and fried yuca. The shrimp taco was special and the rice and beans was well seasoned but very salty. I didn't love the cauliflower taco flavor combos personally. Our friends had vegetarian tamales and two enchiladas which they enjoyed and said portions were huge. I've been here twice now and have been very happy both times! I went over the weekend with friends, we stopped to get some food before the GA / Bama game. There was ample seating available both outside and inside - we went for indoors since it was kind of muggy outside. Both times I've been, the servers are prompt and knowledgeable about menu items. There were 3 of us and we ordered the guac, salsa, queso trio with chips to share. We couldn't finish and took the leftovers home, and our server brought us a bag of fresh chips to bring home too which was nice. For my entree I tried the steak quesadilla special and a shrimp empanada. The steak in the quesadilla is incredible and the empanada was fresh and flavorful. I love Bone Garden Cantina. It's truly a hidden gem on the westside. The décor theme is Dia de Los Muertos. They do not take reservations, and it's first come first serve, and most of you party needs to be there before you get seated. Parking is free in the lots. You can drive around back and the restaurant is there on the backside or you can park in the front and just walk up the stairs and through the breezeway, you'll see the outdoor tables as soon as you walk up the stairs. We always order The Three Amigos and someone always gets the solo chorizo enchilada. I'm always switching it up and can't say I've had anything I do not like, I do lean towards the camarones enchiladas, the tinga de pollo taco, al pastor taco and the carne adobo taco. This place is attached to sort of a bunch of places it was sort of weird. You do have to pack in back maybe if you wanted to walk you can. There is plenty of parking and they have security that drives around. Once we found the place we walked in and got seated right away, we timed it right because they were not too busy. They do close at 10 and the music was vibing. The staff very friendly and our waiter made some good suggestions. I was expecting the margaritas to be way bigger but this little cup WOW put me on my butt a little lol but the chips and queso!! YUM!!! We shared a bunch of different items the pork tamale and the Barria enchiladas and the elote corn. These were all amazing and a bit spicy for my taste but still good. They do not provide complimentary chips and salsa. Seating was ok a bit squished if you are a bigger person but they do have outside seating. The bathrooms were clean and the decor very nice and fit the theme of the places name. They did have a small bar area if you dined alone. This was a good place to eat at for my visit.
