First time going there- ended up getting items stolen from me. Would not recommend this bar, shady crowd and too little staff to control them. Drinks are worth it though! Bartenders don't seem to know how to make a drink so they just pour a ridiculous amount of booze in them to make up for lack of real bartender knowledge. Every time I come here, I have such a great time. The food menu is inspired by New Orleans - French quarter, but have so many options! My boyfriend loves the fried shrimp Poe Boy with their Cajun sauce and I'm a big fan of the shrimp cocktail. What makes the experience is Nikki, the bar tender!! She has such an amazing personality and presence in the building. She is friendly and inviting and seems to know everyone who walks in. Can't wait to go back and have another fun time! read more

Who knew this little place had breakfast let alone great breakfast. We were pleasantly surprised the 1st time that we returned 10 days later. I'm simple guy, like pancakes. These didn't disappoint. Big but not huge. Crispy around edges and quite tasty. My wife is adventurous so she had the gator biscuit and was very happy with it. The 2nd time she had crab cake Benedict I think it's called. I was so excited to see the Seafood Gumbo on their menu. If you make your own gumbo you know that merely making the roux takes a lot of time and care. Gumbo is generally served over rice-not embedded. Gumbo, when done right, has all the right flavors and textures that are unique. Thus why it's special when you see it on a menu. The recipe here is canned Spanish rice with some added seafood chunks and call it gumbo. It lacks the luster of being authentic. Bummer. read more

Food is good. Service was awful. We waiting for at least 20 minutes before a waitress came over. She seemed to wait on the regulars before us. It was our first time there and it didn't leave a good impression. After we finally got service, we had to continue to track her down for attention. The blonde waitress seem to be working inside and outside. She was overwhelmed. More servers are required to keep this nice local place in business. I wasn't really sure what to expect because it is your typical dive and local hangout bar. But the bartender was friendly and the regulars were nice and conversated with myself and the hubs. If you want cheap drinks & bar food, this is the place for you. This is a place for the locals - i.e. west county folk within a 5 mile radius. The crowd tends to be on the younger side 21-25 though at times you do find a mix of 40 something folks. Do not expect much from this place other than an inexpensive night. It is in need of a major remodel and cleaning. There was a strong mildew/mold smell when I visited. The decor is lacking (Mardis Gras beads strung here and there - wood paneling). Seating is awkward making it difficult to get to the restrooms and the deck area. The staff was friendly and quick. Between the staff and the cheap drinks I'll probably visit again. read more

I really did not get the dive bar until I came here to review it. The pictures tell the story. Not mine the patrons. They do tend to have young girls dressed in short shorts serving the food. Got here about 8:30 and my brother in law and his girlfriend were waiting for us outside. Today is June 30 and the temperature was very cool to be eating outside. Our server was new and admitted as much so that helped when the mistakes were made. No biggies just her not knowing or remembering the things she wrote down. The prices here are very reasonable and the food was good. Not 5 star great or really 4 star good. But price to food it was 4 stars. I had their rib eye steak and eggs served with two eggs potatoes and toast. $7.50. The steak should not be confused with anything near a good steak but for breakfast it was fine. Mrs. K ordered bacon and eggs and shared an order of French toast. She liked the French toast and commented that it was very good. Overall it is a good breakfast place and maybe lunch. I am sure that when it is later the booze is flowing and that would make it interesting. In fact I also learned that you cannot get a bloody mary until after 9am. I am really into dive bars. With that being said, you might understand that super trendy menus or flashy decor are not really that important to me whilst getting wasted with my various blind dates. I went to Bones last night to meet another rando off the interwebs. Bones was an awesome idea. The crowd was super mixed up and eclectic. There was a forty-something chugging beer out of a pitcher, a Brazilian/ African man hitting on a wasted face blonde chick and a flaming homosexual man in the women's room trying to speak Spanish to me. There were some people kareoke-ing some random songs. There were a handfull of business types, restaurant industry types, a Blues player, and some minors (they had stellar fake ids because even I got carded at 28!). I was totally into it. Beyond the super cool crowd, the Wednesday night special is $2 pitchers of Bud Light or Select. You better believe I impressed the socks of my interwebs friend by drinking one of those bad boys down. The only downfall: service was L A M E. I mean, the bartenders were nice, but my empty beer glass just sat there. No bueno to have thirst while on blind dates. 3 stars. Honestly, I was expecting the food to be better and more authentic in about 20 different ways that I can think of off of the top of my head. I have often found that the smaller more divey restaurants can do a good, small, Cajun spread. This was awful. The gumbo was a huge mess. Too salty to eat... I looked at our waitress looking defeated, and she immediately knew what I was going to say, and she politely offered to take it off the bill and bring me something else. I ate Buffalo Chicken Rangoons.... and those too were....just that. Awful. However - the PRETZELS there (the big baked ones!) were delicious! Baked right and crispy with a warm gooey pull-apart center! We were pleased... Aside from the jerktastic bar patrons that could use some extensive lessons in being a gentleman -- the service was good, but the food was just... a huge letdown. We had a little work get together last night and had a few drinks at Tuckers. Some of the girls wanted to find a karaoke bar and were determined to get us all to the French Quarter. I had driven by there many times, but never stopped in. Needless to say, we were all dragged there for some drinking and singing. I live an hour away from work, so I was in a suit and was way, way way, did I way over dressed. There was a smell as soon as you walked in the door, I guess to make you feel like your in New Orleans or something. The girls went to find the the book of songs. When they passed it 3 feet from my face I almost gagged from the smell. It smelled like a wet towel that in the corner of a 100 year old basement. It was absolutely discus ting. I still don't know why they would even touch it when it smelled like that, however they had drank beyond there since of smell, so I guess understandable. The place was packed for a Wednesday night, and if you are in the mood and dressed for a dive bar I guess it would be a great place to go. With the smell and the moldy book was just too much for me to rate it any higher. read more

A great place to go and forget about your spouse and kids for a couple of hours. Clean enough to fall off your bar stool occasionally without getting too dirty, but perfectly not clean enough to let your kids crawl around on the floor unattended. Drinks are strong. The food is pretty good and reasonable. They are proud of their homemade potato chips enough to use them as nachos. If you give a hole-in-the-wall bar five stars then it's not a hole-in-the-wall bar you want to go to... so 4 stars. read more

We went there on a Saturday night at around 745, service was very good and the waitress was very attentive. Watched a Rams playoff game there. The music in the background was provided by KSHE 95, so we enjoyed that. When we were getting ready to leave around 915, they had a DJ that was starting to provide music. The food was good, we had crab cakes for an appetizer, and I had a fried crayfish Po Boy. My wife had the house special brick and meat sandwich. First time here. Last time here. Never have I ever felt so uncomfortable. You would've thought the customers and bartender saw aliens walk through the door. I, a black woman, along with two other black women, walk into this place where we are met with nothing but stares and whispers from a room full of white people. Immediately, I wanted to walk back out but opted to give it a chance instead. I had to ask the bartender, "Do we seat ourselves?" She replied, yes, and still offered no greeting. Long story short, we purchased drinks only and left. There is NO way I would have trusted them to make my food after such an unpleasant entrance and bad vibes. My husband and I have found our favorite date bar! The Mardi Gras feeling just makes you feel like having fun. There are daily specials, like $2.00 Tuesdays, All day Happy Hour on Sundays, karaoke on Wednesdays and Saturdays...always something good. The bartender-waitresses are very friendly and make good drinks, and check back frequently to make sure you have everything you need. Their house made chips are awesome! I hear the breakfasts are fabulous, and we're going to go check them out soon. Bones is extremely popular and VERY busy so we try to go a little off the normal meal times. The only possible negative is that it's VERY noisy. Sometimes it's hard to hear conversation. But it's worth it to me. read more

I had been looking forward to checking out French Quarter since seeing their tent at Taste of STL with a long lone all night. Overall, I was disappointed, but the food was still OK. First off, its hard to find. Small place in a small strip plaza, and the sign was not lit up at 8pm. If not for my gf seeing if before, we would have never found it. Upon walking in, it gives you the dive bar feel.... golden tee, big buck hunter and loud juke box music. You look at the menu for a place called FRENCH QUARTER and would expect it to be cajun/soul food. All they had that was 'cajun' was Crawfish and gumbo (which they were out of) The service was TERRIBLE. Our waitress, who was also one of 2 bartenders, was slow and seemed disoriented in some way. She blamed it on another patron in the bar who she said "was a nightmare." It was quite obviously an hour after this person left, when the service still sucked, that she was just bad at her job. She came to get our food orders, I ordered a Crawfish Wrap and when I ordered the Sausage Gumbo she had to check to make sure they had it. About fifteen minutes later she came back to inform me they did not have it, and took the rest of the tables order. Not even 5 minutes later, my Crawfish Wrap that was ordered 20+ minutes ago shows up by itself and she apologizes that she had put it in 20 mins earlier. Then I discover they brought me a Chicken Wrap instead of what I had ordered. She fixed it, after everyone else had received their food. I then asked for an additional side of the cajun dressing that came on the wrap, and received it after asking again twenty minutes later. The check came, and was also incorrect. Had to wait a good ten minutes while standing at the bar to get that corrected. Overall, TERRIBLE experience and I WILL NOT be back. Food was decent at best, but a sad excuse for a place called "French Quarter" The only highlight was the 2 for 1 drinks, but around 9pm it seemed to bring in a very young crowd interested in drinking as many Red Bull and Vodkas they can fit into their skinny jeans. read more

Am I the only one that is trying to figure out exactly how a bar named the French Quarter is all the way out in the Ballwin? It just seems like the place belongs down in Soulard. Even the ambiance, the quality patio, and well frankly, the crowd seem more like they belong down in Soulard. This is a pretty decent little West County bar all in all. Unlike Soulard, it is smoke free, which is awesome. I wish the Ballwin smoking ban would spread everywhere. Regardless, the few times I have gone here, I have always had a great time. The people are friendly, the bar is clean, the prices are good, the food is good, and they have karaoke. It's really everything you could look for in a bar and totally worth checking out if you are trying to find a good place to hang out in West County. read more

What do you do when you walk into a place, and nobody's sitting at the tables? You sit at the bar. With plenty of company. I got the Original Bones' Burger ($6.99) -- American, Swiss and grilled onions. I asked for no bun. For my side, I got cottage cheese. No upcharge, YIPPEE! This burger was grilled beautifully. The grilled onions were on the burger, and the cheeses were on top of the onions. I've not seen that before. This was delicious, and it came with PICKLES, which were chips. I was afraid that they would be sweet. But they were dilly-delicious. I ate them first. And I ate them all. Monica, the bartendress and server, was so friendly, efficient and worked the bar beautifully with a smile. Monica brought out a to-go vessel, and I loaded up my next meal. I've known about this place for 40 years and never been. What got me thinking about it was Paul K.'s review of breakfast. Which I still have to get. read more

If you want cheap drinks, dive bar atmosphere, good BAR food and great, smiling service...then this is a fun place to go!! if you want actual creole / New Orleans food, I would not recommend it for that. You'd be better off making the drive to Broadway Oyster Bar or Mad Crab on Olive. I ordered a grilled shrimp Po'boy. It quite literally had 4 pieces of shrimp on it. It was so much bread, that I moved all 4 pieces to one end and put half the sandwich to the side. There was no flavor. I had to ask for some of their cajun ranch and kept dipping the part-sandwich in it, trying to salvage what little meal I was eating. Real cajun poboys that I am used to are LOADED with meat, flavor, sauces, pickles, etc. It should have been so loaded, that with every bite; I should have been stuffing "guts" back into my sandwich b/c of the overflow! ... Unfortunately, it was a ghost town in my sandwich. I was so sad. My boyfriend had the gumbo and he said it was a good one. The buffalo chicken rangoons are definitely worth ordering, they are tasty! But, to tout that you are a louisiana-style restuarant is going a little overboard. I won't be back for cajun food. I may be back just for drinks and bar food! read more

Great local dive bar with great waitresses that make you feel at home, and are damn good at keeping your glass full. Crowd is older earlier in the evening and gradually changes to a 20 something crowd as the night progresses. Good bar food...darn good breakfasts also. We ate here this past week and even though it is posted on the door that you must wear a mask when you come in or walk around in the restaurant, our waitress wore her mask around her neck; her nose and mouth were never covered. Also some patrons who knew the waitress were allowed in and walked around without masks. It's too bad they don't follow their own rules because the food was very good. read more

We stopped in to have a drink and after waiting several minutes because the bartender was too busy socializing, decided to go to the patio. The barback came out to check on us, and informed us the bartender doesn't come out there to serve drinks. Well obviously, they don't serve them inside either. She eventually came and took our order. After going in to get our second drink, we decided to tab out and leave. Again, she was chatting with other customers and ignoring us. The barback again, stepped up to help us get tabbed out. Went there because of the Yelp eating... seated ourselves outside, then after a significant wait, walks in and asked if we needs to order at the bar. Having been told no, we asked our waitress about beers on tap, finally got the info. Good was a let down, seafood(shrimp) gumbo was served with shrimp on top, not cooked in. Too much of an overwhelming taste that wasn't pleasant. (Side note,I love Cajun food) daughters burger was really good. Alligator was over salted, especially if you want to add their sauce. Asked for malt vinegar, was given a bottle with maybe an ounce in it. Our waitress was VERY frazzled. When we paid, handed her our card with our bill . We got our receipt, not ours.. much cheaper.
