    Fries!

Checking out another burger place last Saturday night, The Village Bar was the place. We weren't sure on the parking lot and made a wrong turn going back behind near the park. Found the driveway right past the building and took it around back. The entrance is in the back where there is a deck with tables and building that looks to be a venue. Ventured inside and got seated on the left side, I don't know the difference, I think it was super loud on both sides. It's a bar and grill on a Saturday night and busy. We had a great waitress, Rachel H. She was hustling but kept up with our table. We tried several apps, Trashed Wings, Onion Rings, and Bottle Caps. I enjoyed the Bottle Caps, battered and fried jalapenos. I don't think they were hand-made but I liked the kick. Wings were decent and the ranch ok. I wasn't a fan of the onion rings; they were kind of bland. I got the Best Hamburger and an order of fries. Fries were crinkle cut, my favorite and they were fine. The hamburger was cooked through, as requested with pickles and onion. I added mustard. I thought it was going to be an old school nostalgia burger, but it was just ok. Now I can say I have tried it, I loved the decor and history but wasn't impressed with the food.

Simple and reliable in the best way. The building itself is historic and filled with so much character, like the walls covered in St. Louis memorabilia that instantly sparks nostalgia. And yes, the burger really is that good. Something about it being served on a Styrofoam plate just makes it so much better for some reason. Whether it's buzzing during weekday lunches or packed with sports fans on the weekend, the energy here always feels right. Cheap drinks, friendly service, and a classic atmosphere make this little neighborhood gem veryyyyy hard to beat if you're nearby or hungry for a burger.

Has a fun, hometown bar kinda vibe. Service was great. We got the onion rings to start which were kinda soft and bland, would not get them again. My friends got the wings and liked them. I got a club sandwich and it was good. they have a few beers on tap and there is only one or two that is not a domestic beer. Overall has a fun vibe but only average food.

Another great happy hour! The burgers are solid, and the fries!!! YUM! The only bad thing is how loud it gets inside...when this place is rocking you almost can't hear....but hey, it is a bar! The waitress was fantastic, we had three tables full of people and she handled us all ( and several other tables) with zero issues. One of my fav bars!!!

An unassuming, popular "local" sports bar/tavern grill with pub fare dining, cold drinks and plenty of bourbon options. Friendly and attentive service, it's a no frills kinda place serving one of the best burgers around town!! Great location and causal atmosphere for meeting up with friends, grabbing a quick lunch, dinner, or watching a game on TV. Overall, 4.0+ rated experience for all above, worthy of the burger treat! Expect to pay $10-15pp for a handmade burger with onion and pickles. Note condiment sides (lettuce, tomato) are extras; also great fried apps to share. Today called for a hearty Chili Cheeseburger; served open-faced, this meal plate was tasty and hit the spot on a chilly day! Others ordered the Best Double Burger with Cheddar and Bacon on grilled Sourdough and Best Burger with Swiss on special Kaiser bun - everything delicious! Don't miss the Krinkle Fries or Seasoned Waffle fries option; and their Onion Rings and Fried Mushrooms are also both served hot from the fryer - perfect with a cold bevvie! Plenty of other menu items to choose if a burger isn't your go-to. I like coming outside meal rush hour, so late lunch or HH are good times to enjoy this historical spot. Check out VB, you'll be satisfied! ENJOY!

    Manhattan with Rye

WTH has happened to TVB? I use to like going here when I lived in STL. I've even hosted large groups here for various occasions. I was in the area this past Wednesday with a friend and thought it would be nostalgic to stop in for lunch. What a disappointment it was. The food was flavorless and the cocktails were way overpriced. I am a cocktail connoisseur, my favorite cocktails are Manhattans and Dirty Martinis. When I saw a Manhattan on the Signature Drinks list, it was an easy decision to make. I'm a fan of Rye, so when they gave you the choice of Bourbon or Rye, I chose the Rye. I drink out a lot, so I know cocktail pricing and their pricing is way out of line. No prices on the menu, should have been a red flag. $18 for a Manhattan in a dive tavern, is way out of line. It wasn't even that good, was way too heavy on the sweet vermouth. Here's a breakdown of our food: Onion Rings (Half Order) - Menu says, freshly cut and hand breaded per order. IMO, I doubt it. The coating on the onion rings was thin and barely covered each ring. Minimal flavor and cold when served. French Fries - Crinkle Cut and crispy. Best food item we had. Not house made, came out of a bag. Trashed Wings (Half Order) - No zip to the flavor. Crunchy, but over cooked, they were dried out. Best Cheeseburger - Not. I'd compare it to a Cheeseburger from McDonald's. Sourdough Burger - Sad. It was not true Sourdough. So it, made for a very Plain Jane, burger. It was like regular Wonder Bread. Best thing about our whole lunch was our server, Jennifer. She was attentive, friendly and a very talented server. She deserves a better restaurant to work in. I will not be returning and I no longer recommend.

Any place that is located in a 200 year old building is great automatically . Owner loves St. Louis sports, golf and hand breaded appetizers . The bartender cheering for the Broncos to beat the Chiefs and somehow the drinks are still flowing. On our way to the airport to go back to AZ, We Loved every minute being there . Server Anna had an answer for every stupid question we had. Great bar and grill food made by a staff that cares about what they put out. Thanks for a great visit. Two thumbs up!

The bar and restaurant was crowded so I found a seat at the bar. Friendly and funny bartender, Kevin, waited on me. I went with the Better Burger and french fries. The Better Burger comes with Swiss Cheese. The burger had nice flavor but it was cooked 60 seconds too much. The french fries were the crinkle cut and they were cooked perfectly. The outside patio was packed. Fun burger bar.

The Village Bar has been around forever and it seems like most people I know have been here at least once. Last time we went was on a Sunday evening and it wasn't full, but there were a lot of people there. There's a sign that says "please wait to be seated", but no hostess and there's not a good place to stand where you won't be in the way. So we just kept moving out of people's way until someone walked by and told us where to sit. The staff there hustles! We had a server come over right away and take drink orders. We spent a few minutes choosing our menu items and placed our order. We didn't realize this the first time we went, but you don't always get your food at the same time. You'll typically get your fries or onion rings, etc, have plenty of time to eat them and then you wait for your burger. This time, I got mozzarella sticks and finished those a while before we got our burgers and my husband actually got his fries at the same time. That was literally the first time we've received fries and burgers at the same time! The food is average. It's all basically bar food and is fine, but nothing special. It noisy places bother you, give this one a pass. Of course we'll be back!

Old school bar with Pappy Van Winkle
    Eric N.

Old school restaurant, and Tavern, the ton of Anheuser-Busch memorabilia on the walls. They are known for their hand breaded appetizers, such as onion, rings, and mushrooms. There is a small kitchen to the right of the bar with a flat top and several fryers that cranks out the food served on paper plates and concession boats. People also talk about their burgers and their wings. The wings are big so ask for extra crispy or trashed. The burgers I find a little greasy so I ask for extra pickles and cut it with mustard. Mushrooms come with a horseradish sauce which is good and they make the ranch in house. I noticed they have 2 bottles of Pappy Van Winkle and several other bourbons from the Buffalo Trace distillery. I didn't ask the cost, but hey, if you want to sip a really nice bourbon, it's here. Service is pretty good and they do a good job keeping up with the volume. Overall, the place has been an institution since 1948 and located in a former feed store. Worth stopping in for the vibe and/or to watch sports for sure!

I recently stopped by after an appointment in STL. It was right at lunch time and it was also, opening day for the Cardinals. So when I entered, the line to order was already long. To my surprise, the one lady taking orders, moved that line quickly. So I give her major kudos. When it was turn to order, I was ready. I went with a Double and swapped out the American Cheese for Pepper Jack. For my side, I tried their Salt&Pepper Onion Rings. After ordering, I took my number stick and took a seat at the bar. Once seated, the bartender welcomed me and I ordered a draft beer. I barely had completed my Wordle and my burger basket was being slid in front of me. Before taking my first bite, I admired the crisp edges and actually ran my finger around them. My first bite was heaven. It proved to me that all a good smash burger needs is; ketchup, mustard, onion and pickles. The Onion Rings were made in house and the simple seasoning of Salt & Pepper made them a winner. While dining at the bar, I learned a new trick. If you're going to be sitting at the bar to enjoy your smash burger, you can order it from the bartender. That's right, no standing in line to order, you can go straight to the bar. Great staff. They all hustle and provide friendly and professional service.

It's a single patty, with Pepper Jack Cheese, Tomato-Onion-Jalapeno Relish, Drizzled with a Tangy Fire Ranch and served on a Martin's Potato Roll. The burger was juicy and had those crispy edges that a smash burger is known for. My favorite cheese is Pepper Jack, so that was a big plus for me. The relish added that extra kick that made it a true, Firecracker. I can't enjoy a burger without fries and Jack offers long skinny fries. They had a crispy shell and a soft hot inside. They were simply seasoned with just the right amount of salt. I was impressed that the ketchup was 100% Natural. That gets a big thumbs up. When enjoying a burger and fries, a nice cold beer is always the adult beverage of choice. JN offers a small variety of craft beers on draft and three popular Anheuser-Busch products. I enjoyed a Gumballhead from 3 Floyds Brewing. An American Pale Wheat is a perfect lunchtime beer. The bartenders are personable and offer warm service. The worst aspect is the ventilation which needs much work. We came out smelling so greasy and smokey. We seated ourselves and waited a minute for our waitress to assist us. She kept saying she was new, that it was like her second day or something and didn't quite know the menu. She also didn't know how to make a drink, with that being the case why are you allowed to make any cocktails. If you have a limited cocktail menu but an extensive bar selection you would think their cocktail specials were on point. Nooooo. The BF tried a margarita special and it was awful. I tried a special crafted cocktail that was cool that our waitress asked the guy bartending to specially make because she had no clue about what I was talking about. I hate going to a spot where I make drinks better than the bartenders on hand and that's your job. The BF ordered the the garlic burger and I ordered the Korean wings which NEVER came out because our waitress forgot to order them. So I shared food with the BF. The burger was extremely underwhelming, not seasoned at all. How do you specialize in burgers and mess that up. The best item we ate was the fries and the comedy show was good. I love dinner and entertainment. We are burger enthusiast and if this what your restaurant specializes in I expect to be wowed. We saw all the social media hype surrounding this place and were so excited to try them. To find out it was ALL just hype is a real let down. No we will not be returning, the burgers and service speak for themselves.

Rip Tres Equis; Bienvenidos Smash Em's…read more After much anticipation and an impromptu visit, I was finally able to check this place out. They're known for their smash burgers and seasoned fries. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the food bc I had dinner plans, but I did stay for a couple drinks. They have a great selection of spirits and cocktail specials. My friend got a tequila sunrise, so I followed suit. The pour was quite generous, I must say, and I'm def not complaining. The drink was smooth, with the perfect amount of tequila and sweetness. The bartenders working were both friendly and sociable. The vibe was relaxed and is a great alternative when things get too crazy at the dam. While I only got drinks, I'll for sure be back. The smells alone (all good of course) will have you lingering back!
