Can someone explain the poor service? I have been in so many times I lost count. I go in today and to crab a scone One, the bakery cabinet looks awful. Two, the lady in front of me literally says I'm holding 10 cookies and the woman starts putting them in individual baggies instead of a box. Did we run out of boxes? Had late breakfast with a fellow diner a few days ago. I ordered French toast made with the cinnamon raisin bread. Menu claims three thick slices, but I didn't realize one of the slices would be the heel, which was quite tough. Companion ordered the combo with French toast, egg and bacon. The egg was barely cooked despite asking for over medium. The bacon was neither crisp nor flaccid, but somewhat in between, meaning it was so chewy it was nearly inedible. I hope this was a one-off disappointment, but we will definitely not be returning. read more

This place has a beautiful view, ample seating and very clean restrooms. The service was good, but minimal. The food was par. The eggs were cooked well, hashbrowns a tad under done, but the deal breaker for me was that the biscuits definitely come pre-baked from a supplier and the gravy tastes like its from a can. Disappointing....our family drives a long way to meet here a number of times a year...and yesterday was very disappointing. Grilled cheese sandwiches that weren't toasted, little to no butter and one slice of cheese? 2 of us ordered those and they were terrible. Please train your line cook. Grilled cheese is pretty basic....how do you screw that up? And for $15? We can make our grilled cheese at home for far less $. The bakery made up a little bit but we'll think twice next trip. Lots of variety in the bakery section- even my favorite plain old fashioned donut which is shore hard to find these days. Crisp on the outside but light and airy inside Cappuccino was delicious with lots of foam. Everything is yummy and the view was amazing They have an outside patio you can go to take pictures too We also bought some macarons to go, they look like they would be super sweet but in reality was just right, soft, tasty but not overly sweet, just right We got there around 11-12 on Saturday and didn't really have to wait for a table- but would recommend calling ahead to check on wait times cause they can definitely get busy read more

So lucky to have found this place. While we have only visited for breakfast, I can imagine their lunch and dinner options are great. The restaurant is in an old style building and the interior is a large space, with great views of Mt Rainier if you are lucky to go on a clear day. The staff are friendly, and pretty good at taking orders as quick as they can. The menu is plentiful, so there is going to be something you enjoy. We have had a variety of options, but the pancake breakfast and the French toast have been my favorite. The omelette is wonderful as well, but the portions are fantastic for the prices. They do coffee refills and use a tasty drip coffee. They also offer a complimentary peaches and mini muffin while you wait! The bakery right next door is delightful, there is always a great range of baked goods. This place is a treat and I hope it stays consistent because it's a great treasure! Black Diamond is an institution, as it has weathered ownership change through the years and stands the test of time. It's just a fixture in this area whether it be a family tradition or a reliable stop in the fall during a day of leaf lookers and fall foliage followers. It's a comfortable traditional restaurant/diner in casual country digs. You can get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can also just stop in for Blue Bunny ice cream or some fresh baked bread and bakery items. My husband's aunt and uncle got apple strudel for Thanksgiving and it was so good, I had to make a review. They consistently visit whenever they can for their cinnamon buns and strudels. Its a perfect breakfast treat paired with a good cup of coffee. Service to them has always been good and the food has always been delicious. Amazing bakery and restaurant. Very quaint but don't let the decor fool you. I've had a lot of BLTs in this one was by far the best I've ever had. Bacon was perfect, the perfect amount of mayo, all the vegetables are fresh, and nice toasted white bread. My friend got the gobbler and that was just as good. I also bought some sourdough bread, some jalapeño rolls, and some cinnamon chocolate pretzels for my grandkids. Definitely a must visit. Oh, and they even serve ice cream! read more

I read a few of the reviews before going and would like to note that the 1 star reviews were just inaccurate in my experience today. Service was very friendly and attentive. The food came out very quickly. The bakery items are divine (we picked up several things to try). And the person that commented on the eggs Benedict having gravy is just wrong. I ordered that dish and the hollandaise sauce was delicious. I also thought the hash browns were cooked perfectly. It was my first time at this restaurant and it was an overall awesome experience. Located in the historic area of Black Diamond, this business serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in their dining room. The bakery area offers breads and a variety of sweet treats from donuts to cakes and many things between. The business also offers a couple of rooms for private parties, coffee drinks and ice cream treats. First, there are three door into the building. Two were locked during each of our visits and although they are all signed as being the bakery they do not indicating that only one door is unlocked. The one that was unlocked is at the far end of the building. Nearest the bike rack. Furthest from the other businesses in the area. We saw a couple of young woman trying to get into the bakery for a coffee and were frustrated when the doors were locked! Breakfast is expected fare. Eggs, pancakes, and so on. We didn't find the breakfast outstanding; it's fine. Salt & pepper are on the table. Ask for ketchup or hot sauce if you like. Coffee is ok too. Dinner menu includes a number of entrees, salads and sandwiches. Again, food was OK, nothing you'll droll over in your dreams. Everything was palatable, nothing exceptionable, standard fare. Food quality is good. Taste is a bit bland, which restaurants sometimes do: as they are serving a number of different palates they stay in a 'safe' zone. We tried some of their ice cream and coffee drinks. These were tasty and a nice treat on a warm day. They offer a patio with metal tables and seats at the back of the small dining area accessible by a walkway at the end of the building or through the small dining room. The restaurant feeds a cat out on the patio and during one of our visits a local racoon was dining on cat food. Wood tables and chairs throughout both dining areas. Restrooms, off the larger dining area, were clean. Parking in front of building and across the street. As there are a few businesses in this area, we also saw cars parked street side during the dinner hours. Bicycle racks are available on the sidewalk at the corner of a side street closest to the building. read more

So much nostalgia here. I recommend going to stock up at the bakery. I usually skip the restaurant because you can get all the best items by just stoping by and getting bread, a danish, and doughnuts. Always fun to walk down memory lane and things have stayed the same in the best way. read more

We ordered Thanksgiving pies and all three were excellent. Pumpkin, Banana Cream and Lemon Meringue. The Lemon was probably best we've ever had. We are definitely looking forward to ordering our Christmas Pies and the new menu in a few months. Would love a good local breakfast place. read more

Toasted wheat bread, 75% sauerkraut, dijon mustard, f-ing mayonnaise?! No cheese... tell me you don't know what you're doing without saying you don't know what you're doing. I can only imagine there is a new cook, because I've been going there for years for their Rueben sandwiches and they've always been great. This one can't even be called one. This... this was a crappy sauerkraut sandwich with 3 slices of corned beef, no cheese, on wheat bread and enough Dijon mustard to clear my sinuses out until Chinese new years. We came here because my dad and his wife LOVE this place. They raved and said we had to go. I love the set up with the bakery and the restaurant. They have a LARGE and wonderful bakery selection. They also have a separate area for larger parties. They have outside seating as well and a beautiful view of mt Rainer. We sat down and weren't served, not even given water for a long time, maybe 15-20 minutes. We weren't too pressed as it was Mother's Day weekend and they were busy. We finally got water and we're able to order. I had the biscuits and gravy that came with hash browns and 2 eggs. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the hash browns were decent. However, the biscuits and gravy weren't very good. The gravy unfortunately tasted like a mix you make store bought. I should have known after eating a lot of southern breakfast. My boyfriend had the breakfast burrito and described it as baby food that someone else chewed first. He said the insides were completely mush and not at all appetizing. This review is now for the restaurants. We were seating immediately when we arrive around 10:45 on a Monday. Food prices are in the high end. They serve breakfast until 2:00 and then lunch until 4:00. They have a decent selection of items. I got the breakfast burrito, which was a generous portion. It came with hashbrowns. My husband got the omelet and once again, big enough to have left overs. Super disappointing. Friday night ...only 2 other tables were occupied. We were greeted right away, got water. 15 minutes later we ordered. 20 minutes later we finally got our club sandwich and French dip. Half of French dip was cold. I love this Bakery and Restaurant. However the Restaurant is not open for a little while because of the recent fire in their Kitchen. The Bakery is Open for Business and been pretty busy. I love that! I have been here many times over the years and have had breakfast as well as the pastries. The baked goodies has a wide variety of fresh baked Breads, Pies, Donuts, pastries and Cookies. Give their bakery a try. Their eclairs are delicious! Delicate eggy eclair shells full of ample vanilla cream and topped with chocolate. They are just delicious! They have a lot of extra large cookies and donuts that could easily feed 3-4 people. They also have a lot of home made bars like pecan bars, lemon bars. I had a latte with my eclair it was delicious. Just 4 miles from Maple Valley this place serves a great breakfast and has a fantastic bakery. I stopped in this morning before the church crowd and lingered a few minutes in the reception area/bakery. Everything looked incredible and I'm going to have to purchase some brownies and cookies on my next trip. I was warmly greeted and selected the hearty breakfast. It came with two eggs of your choice, sausage, patty, hashbrowns, and biscuits and gravy. Needless to say it was a very filling and delicious meal. I have ordered 3 times from here. They were all online orders to go. The first time was for dinner, I ordered the fettuccini Alfredo. The options for this dish were for breakfast or something because they asked with or without syrup or something like that. I can't remember exactly, it's been awhile, but I remember thinking it made no sense, so I picked the "without" option, because I didn't want syrup on my Alfredo. I thought it might give me a point somewhere further into the order to pick with chicken or other options. I had a total of 4 dinners and no other point came up to pick a protein for the Alfredo. It was fine, the meal was decent, nothing to write home about. I ate it. But I left the restaurant a review or wherever they have in the receipt to let them know about issues. I let them know about the online ordering issue and said specifically that I wasn't asking for my money back since I did eat the food, but that it was very confusing to order. They responded and said "thanks for the info!" Ok, like, fine. The meal was over $120. For all of it. That is ridiculous in the first place, but also, wouldn't you do what you could to make people willing to spend that kind of money on one meal, not only happy with the meal and service, but happy enough to come back? Ok, don't give me my money back, offer a complimentary meal for a future order, or something. Or, just straight up refund it, even if I said I wasn't asking for my money back. Anything that implied you value people and their experience with your restaurant, I didn't feel like they wanted to keep people coming back. I would think you would want people happy enough to come back and spend more money there...well, I guess I'm a slow learner, actually, I figured one meal somewhere isn't a great way to judge their food, I decided to give it another shot, maybe breakfast would be better...it wasn't great, another online order, that was no problem, easy to order, got chicken fried steak breakfast, again, OK food. I don't know what you think, but if you tell me there are two pieces of toast, don't cut one piece in half and call it two. That feels really cheap and also, it didn't seem like homemade bread like they claim, seemed like a loaf of store bought white bread cut in half. Wasn't great, they weren't very generous with the gravy, it was just ok. Didn't get food poisoning, so that's a plus. I don't even remember what the last thing we ordered was, but that tells you everything you need to know.
