Loved the donuts at Bonnie's on main Street in League City. They have a nice mix of donuts and savory pastries (spinach/feta, kolaches,Boudain kolaches, etc). I first discovered Bonnie's Donuts online while searching " best cinnamon rolls in Houston " . I always leave my search open instead of just " near me " because I'll drive far out for delicious food. and lo and behold this is where I found that this place does 5lb Cinnamon Rolls I was super stoked to order this !! I first texted them the cost and how to place an order . The great thing is , they only need 1 day notice to make this ginormous cinnamon roll . Which is an amazing turn around time ! I placed the order on Jul 17th for pick on July 19th . They didn't require a deposit. Once I arrived on July 19th . It was 30 minutes till they closed and they were just the most sweetest people you could ever meet ! The place felt very inviting and cozy . So this is a family owned business . ( a couple with 1 kid ) Which made this experience even more better because I love supporting local business's! I know leaving great reviews and hearing how great of an experience everything was means so much to them . The lady ( Bonnie ) even threw in 2 free donuts for me having to wait . Which I had no problem with . She handed me my 5lb Cinnamon Roll and asked if I wanted the icing on top or on the top . I opted in for on the side since I knew it wasn't going to be eaten until later . She quickly told me the warm up instructions , which wasn't difficult at all ! What surprised me even more was the " icing on the side " was a tall styrofoam cup filled with icing .haha amazing ! Once the cinnamon roll was warmed up , it was phenomenal. I stopped in here after I saw an add on FB for the fritters. They have one of the best selections of fritters and specialty donuts in houston. Both the fritters I tried were amazing (banana and blueberry lemon). I dove all the way from hobby airport to Clearlake just to indulge! A very quick review of my trip to the League City area this weekend. I was on my way to a card show event and had the thought of visiting a highly recommended business for a quick bite. I could not miss the chance to visit: Bonnie's Donuts. One reason was thanks to social media and it was on my mind whenever I had the chance. Walking in was a breeze and walking into your local donut shop. Very much a family atmosphere. I was happily greeted and had so many options to choose from. But one thing for sure was the legendary 5 lb cinnamon roll, which was off to the side shelf, and the frosting was brought from the back before I checked out. Of course I also had to try the glazed donuts and grabbed a crème brûlée cronut as well. I did not get a chance to try the cinnamon roll or the cronut but the glazed donut was in the best way to describe it "mouth watering soft" I knew this was going to be amazing after that bite. Overall my visit to Bonnie's Donuts was exceptional. Initially I came in just for the cinnamon roll but left a fan of the business overall. Bonnie and family are great and I felt very welcomed. She did ask if I was planning to eat the cinnamon roll right away or later? She was very informative and teaching me how to reheat it and the same for the frosting as well. What was also nice was the additional donut fritter included. I definitely would recommend it without a doubt as your go to donut shop if you are family local donut shop. I just wished I wasn't living so far to regularly come in but when I am in the area, I would choose this versus any other place by far. *small note* Now I'm not sure if this is scientifically proven or because this was a very specific day, I had left my donuts in my car for almost half the day. But I decided to grab another one at night, it still tasted just the same as I got it in the morning but the glaze was more thicker. I made the trek at 6 am in a torrential downpour across town. I passed 6 other shops to get there and it was worth it, 100%. I'm only giving three stars because the employees were so kind. I feel bad giving them any less, but the donuts are not good quality. The regular donuts are fine in taste. You can't go wrong with a basic glazed or chocolate iced, really, but the specialty flavors are a bit off. I tried the red velvet donut holes, which should have been a chocolate cake donut with cream cheese icing, but instead, I couldn't pinpoint the flavor except for berries, which was bizarre. Figured out they actually tasted like strawberry donuts with regular icing and nothing like a red velvet donut. I think they just dyed the donut dough and called it a day. Need to revise the recipe. Anything that is unique like the different flavored fritters or pie-looking donuts use canned filling, which is not something customers want. I understand that fillings take a lot of work, but if you want people to come back, you'll need to make the filling from scratch. I won't eat anything filled as it was just full of canned fruits. And last of all, the chocolate filled donut was basically filled with chocolate pudding. Again, cutting corners, but I think people would pay more for quality homemade elements. I certainly would. A few weeks late but I was surprised for my birthday since I loveeee cinnamon rolls with their 5lb cinnamon roll versus a cake! They even gave the icing in a 20 ounce cup so the cinnamon roll can be reheated and poured freshly over which was more than enough icing! The cinnamon roll was amazing just like a single roll and they even carry cake blueberry donut holes which was to die for! So I picked up one of the infamous 5 lb cinnamon rolls on Wed before Thanksgiving to bring home to the family for Thanksgiving breakfast. While there, I had to get some of their other donuts too. Well the Apple fritter and blueberry cake donuts are probably some of the best I've ever had. The trip would've been worth just for those. Flash forward to Thanksgiving AM. We put the cinnamon roll in the oven to warm it up and then added the icing. The verdict: DAMN! It's good! Just the right amount of cinnamon. The closer you get to the middle, the closer you get to pure heaven and bliss. The jalepeno kolache has the jalepeno in the the sausage instead of in the dough, something I never really paid much mind to or cared about but my fiancé always comments when we get kolaches and they jalepenos are in the dough.
