Upon my arrival, I consulted with the staff regarding the services I desired, which included dental care, nail trimming, and a thorough haircut. Prior to leaving, I inquired about the cost, and the attendants informed me that the total would be $95. I agreed, understanding that my dog was indeed a bit overgrown, although I anticipated a slightly higher fee.
After two hours, I returned to collect my Yorkshire Terrier. At that point, Carolyn the owner assisted me this time and started to suggested that I consider neutering my dog, explaining that his overgrown condition required more extensive work than she had initially expected. She then informed me that the charge would now be $115 instead of the previously quoted $95. I expressed my concern, stating that had I been notified of the price change, I could have made an informed decision about whether to proceed.
I had brought $100 with me, which included a $5 tip, and informed her that I would prefer to settle for that amount, after which we could part ways amicably. However, she aggressively refused to return my dog, which led me to contact the authorities. She provocatively remarked that I could call the police, as she was familiar with them.
When the police arrived, I explained the situation to them, and they went inside to speak with her. They later returned to confirm that I had signed a paper regarding my appointment, which was irrelevant since I had attended without any missed appointments. They advised me to pay her in order to retrieve my dog. Upon re-entering the premises, Carolyns continued to insult me, claiming that the grooming costs were significantly higher than what I was prepared to pay, despite it being the price I was initially quoted.
I left in frustration, especially after she insinuated that I should contact ICE immigration authorities. In response, I defended myself, making it clear that I am a U.S. citizen. I wish to highlight this experience as a warning for immigrants who may seek grooming services at Carolyns pretty pups. The treatment I received was not only rude but also discriminatory and exploitative. I will not return to her establishment, nor will I recommend her services to anyone; I intend to leave reviews wherever possible to share my experience.
