After first time bad service from a young man here, I went back because the food was so good. Like better than any other Korean food I could go to for lunch. The old man that brought the food out was so nice and the place was so clean inside and comfortable. I want this restaurant to do well. I recommend trying it! Not bad, but nothing all that exciting either. Bonsai has an extensive menu with Japanese, Korean, and Thai options. I'm always a little skeptical of a place that has more than one of these and goes for an "Asian" menu rather than focusing on one country's cuisine, the reason being they end up being a Jack of all trades, master of none. I think that was somewhat the case with Bonsai. Everything was decent, but nothing was especially good. We ordered an appetizer sampler and everything was fine, but pretty dull. We also tried five different sushi rolls and all were pretty decent, but nothing all that great. My favorite was the bulgogi beef rolls, which is kind of different and fun, but they were rolled poorly and they all fell apart when you picked them up. The space was fine. Nondescript, but good enough. The service was a little indifferent. Our server was polite, but seemed bored. My wife tried to order the sake on the menu and was told they didn't have their liquor permit yet. It annoys me when something is on the menu when a restaurant knows it will not be available for an extended period. Either take it off the menu or cover it up. Anyway, nothing all that noteworthy. I would go back if I were right in the area and craving "Asian" food, but I wouldn't go out of my way or recommend that anyone else do so. It's fine. read more

The yukgaejang (spicy beef soup) is spectacular. One of my favorite dishes of any restaurant around. My wife has ordered sushi, pad thai, and a few other dishes and always enjoyed them. This spot has had many restaurants rotate through, so I hope this one sticks. Takeout and dine in have both been good. read more

We went here because I was on the search for a Bulgogi beef bowl in Columbus. When we arrived, it took us a while to get seated as they did not know we had walked in. Once we were seated, the customer service level was very friendly and hospitable. When we received our food, it was at the correct temperature, had good flavor and had nice presentation. We got the dukbokki, three sushi rolls, and one of the Kim chi stews to share between the two of us. Service was fast and nice. They refilled water whenever was needed but didn't helicopter which is appreciated. They were fast, too. I felt like I didn't wait for anything. There are giant TVs so it's actually a nice place to have dinner and watch some sports which is what we ended up doing. The food was delicious and the bill came out to be about $55 for the two of us which is a little pricey but we definitely ate our fill. I can see myself coming back when I'm craving both sushi and Korean food but the price will probably limit my future visits a tad bit. read more

I have been there for lunch twice. Both times had friendly service and excellent meals. I had the jambong (spicy seafood noodles) and the jajangmyeon (black bean noodles), which were both very good. Really really great sushi! My husband and daughter went in tonight to pick up a to-go order... I was told the restaurant was super clean and the staff was very friendly and kind. But the 5 stars are for the sushi! We also had miso soup, seaweed salad and edamame that were as good as they get. The Shogun roll was big and spicy and just what we wanted. The tuna and avocado roll was perfect with huge chunks of delicious tuna. I'm pretty picky about sushi, so very happy to find a new spot in the neighborhood! Bonsai is definitely among the best Korean/Japanese restaurants in the Columbus area. We stopped in here last week to try their Dol Sot, a traditional hot stone dish that combined vegetables, deliciously seasoned beef and an egg over rice. Overall, one of the best Bi Bim Bap's I've had and their Korean red hot sauce was so spicy and flavorful. The sides were enjoyable, free-to-refill and included Miso, Kimchi, Seasoned Potatoes, Spicy Cucumber, Seaweed salad and Korean coleslaw! The service was very friendly and attentive and we really liked the inside décor, which was modern and cozy. The only downside for me was the dinner prices as the Dol Sot was $14.95 and Bulgogis, another Korean dish I love, was $17.95, which were a little steep in comparison to the cost of other options in the Columbus area. Will definitely come back again to try out their lunch box menu though, which looks fun and more reasonable! read more

My favorite sushi in town, and that's saying something! Employees are kind and the owners are frequently circulating in the restaurant. Takeout is quick and always accurate. The ingredients are fresh and seriously everything is delicious and artfully presented. Seated service isn't super quick, but I wouldn't call it slow either. If you're in a time crunch it may be better to do takeout, but I also love the ambiance and how clean the dining room is, so there's that too. Took my daughter here for her birthday lunch. Why is it so hard to find raw choices at sushi bars in Columbus? Why? Anyways, SO much rice in their rolls. Too much rice. It was the consistency of rolls prepared at a grocery store. Not enough fish and way too much rice. Service was good. Chef did not engage with us AT ALL! Why, again, is it so hard to find good service from sushi chefs in Columbus? Why? There is no such thing as a sushi bar experience in the Columbus area. This is a cute little restaurant in a strip mall setting. There is plenty of parking available in the parking lot which is always a plus. There seems to be about 15-20 tables here so it's quite a small place. We went on a Sunday afternoon and were seated promptly. There is one server for the entire restaurant. She served and hosted but that didn't seem to get in the way of good service. I ordered a jjampong seafood noodle stirfry while my boyfriend got the kimchi dolsot. Both were good and what we expected. My stirfry had a generous portion of seafood and my boyfriend seemed content with the amount of pork his dish had. They seemed to have good lunch specials but those are only available mon-fri. Overall, our experience was pleasant. The prices are a bit higher than my other favorite Korean or sushi spots in Columbus. Therefore, I probably would not come back unless I'm in the area. Delicious Asian cuisine! My husband and I stopped by on our way home from giant eagle. I loved the yaki soba (tasty thin noodles with vegetables and protein choice), while my husband enjoyed the Pad Thai. In addition to the delicious food, the ambience of this restaurant is top notch, very modern and relaxing, we particularly liked their namesake bonsai. The good service was the cherry on the top, including a complimentary and awesome green tea ice cream. Sushi delish and fair pricing ($6-8 for regular rolls; ~$12+ for special rolls). Great variety of items on the menu! It was my first time here and I had the half portion of the Beef Bulgogi Dup Bap (which in itself was still very sizeable - I thought they had mistakenly brought me the full size order but they assured me this was the half size), and my friend had the Ra Bok Ki which he enjoyed. We also split a volcano roll which had generous portions of spicy tuna on it. Everything was delish! Service was great too!
