Great ambiance when you walk in, the lighting is slightly darker than outside so even an early dinner/late lunch feels slightly elevated and fun. I noticed the fried chicken location next door, but I think it may be a separate business. Just an assumption, not confirmed. The service could've been better. He was pretty unfriendly and overall seemed like he didn't want to be there. A simple question for recommended drinks was responded in an attitude and a "I don't drink". The eel sauce and spicy Mayo were the perfect balance of salt and spice and the chewy bits of octopus were the perfect size. For our meals we had the Cheesy Ramen and the Meshikou Black. The cheesy ramen is basically like pasta Alfredo. My daughter (who ordered it) didn't really like it so I made the ultimate parent sacrifice and swapped plates with her...I gave her my Meshikou Black She gobbled it up (and let me have a few bites too) and it was amazing; the broth was perfectly rich and flavorful. While the seating is fairly limited, the staff is very friendly and efficient in turning tables and getting food out. Still, expect a bit of a wait during prime dinner hours even on a weekday. I had the Karaage as an appetizer and like the description, it was truly flash fried to perfection. It was delicious and crispy with incredibly juicy meat. I would highly recommend this. Onto the Ramen itself. I selected the Spicy Miso Paitan and was excited when it hit the table. Beautifully presented and with lots of additions, the bowl was exactly what I was hoping to get. While still a good bowl of ramen, it wasn't exactly the top of the ramen food chain in my opinion as the broth was good, but not great and the wavy noodles (my preference) were good, but didn't have some of the chew I have gotten in other ramen houses. Decided to eat here with a group of friends and was not disappointed! It's a great space for outings and right next door they have an ice cream shop with just two flavors! - sesame and ube! They were very upfront and honest about their vegetarian option having a veggie broth base which my vegetarian friend really appreciated as he usually has to ask. I got the shoyu paitan ramen and I really enjoyed it. The broth was rich and I usually judge the broth more than the noodles itself. I like to think that the broth is the star of the dish. Of course, I can't neglect the noodles and the toppings but I really had no complaints for them. When we finished our meal, we walked right next door for their ice cream! They currently only serve 2 flavors which are sesame and ube. Most of us decided to get a mix of both flavors and you could choose to get it in a cone, cup, or a cone with a cup on the side (which I did not know!) After all the food we had, we were actually quite full but the ice cream was a perfect way to end it. My favorite was actually the sesame flavor! My husband loves ramen bowls, so we had to try this highly rated place. It is very small inside. It was packed on a Thursday night. We were told our wait would be 30 minutes, but only had to wait 10 thankfully. There is a hightop, bar-like seating area and some table seating next to it. We were seated at the hightop as we were a group of 2. I prefer the table seating, but understood the need for this. There is a clear plastic separating the hightop area from the cooks and you can actually see them making the dishes. I thought this was an interesting concept. We were able to download the menu through a QR code; however, it was offered to us as well by the server. We ordered the KFC chicken wings. These were great, loved the crispiness they achieved on the wings and enjoyed the flavor. I got the spicy mala ramen and substituted with karaage chicken. The ramen was spicy, but not overly for me. I think I could have used a little more depth of flavor in the broth. The karaage chicken was super crispy and the sauce was flavorful; however, like some other Yelpers mentioned, I think the chicken could be cooked through a little longer for my liking. My husband got the fireball miso ramen with karaage chicken. His broth did not pack the spice level it claimed. He had to ask for more chili oil and another garlic spice ball to get the flavor and spice. We would appreciate some more chicken substitutions other than karaage for the ramens. We do not eat pork and found it limited. I love steamed buns and was disappointed that the option for that was only pork too. If it can be substituted for chicken, I think the menu should clearly state where that can happen for people like me. I love ramen and this is probably my favorite spot in Columbus. We eat here fairly often and I almost always get the same thing: the shoyu paitan ramen. (Auto correct made that sentence a real challenge.) my husband has gotten several of the other broths and of course we've tried the pork sammy and the bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms as well, which my hubby has asked me to make at home since several times. The broth is always consistent and fabulous and they have the best pork belly I've had in the city. The inside is small so seating can be a challenge on a busy night but luckily the owner caved in to allowing to go over covid and hasn't gone back so far. Though I do like the dark and low key vibe--it feels like they'd do well with more alcohol choices. This is my go to spot when near Columbus. The restaurant has bar seating that is in front of the kitchen where they make the food. There are also other high tops and regular tables. The service is extremely quick and always comes out hot. Now I have been here several times and have tried a lot of their appetizers (takoyaki, gyoza, any of the fried chicken, bao buns, firecracker shrimp). You can't go wrong with any of them.
