The location is great with ample parking and the inside is absolutely beautiful. I'm excited to see how this business evolves as time goes on. I wasn't able to shop for books as they were having a vendor fair when I visited which was both cool and a bit disappointing as the vendors were set up in front of the books. I would have preferred the opportunity to shop the books during the vendor fair--if that was an option it wasn't made clear in my opinion. I am a bit surprised at the lack of book inventory. Maybe I am just used to being spoiled in a city with 20+ indie bookstores. Or maybe their intention isn't to sell as many books, but rather sell more coffee, food, and alcohol? Or maybe I came in when they were in between book shipments? A lot of the shelves were pretty bare. 4 stars because I truly would not have imagined Mokena ever having something like this growing up nearby and I'm glad that there is a way to buy books from a place that isn't the Zon in the suburbs. I may just use it as a workspace when visiting home rather than trying to stop in for a quick book purchase.

Book Bar is a welcomed addition to the Mokena area! They offer both morning coffee, tea, and pastry items as well as evening cocktails and bites. This hot spot is a great location to cozy up to read a book, work remote, catch up with girlfriends, or attend a community event. They have many bookshelves full of books for purchase and often holds "book club" hang outs for monthly reads. I visited on a Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised by how much space there was and all the fun accents. They serve La Colombe coffee but have standard syrup flavors. Hot coffees and teas come in 12oz sizes only. I got a Lavender Honey Latte and Chai Tea to go. I genuinely enjoyed my coffee, its temperature, and balance of flavors. My only complaint was both drinks cost $14.50 which is a premium for no homemade syrups. This would be more of a spot to treat myself than a regular outing. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed and the staff was incredibly chipper/kind. Welcome to the community Book Bar and can't wait to see you continue to thrive!

My friend kept talking about this place and we finally got the chance to go. It's so cute inside. Like if I had a library in my house (and space for a library), it would look like this, weird art included. We went on a Saturday around 5pm and it was packed! However, the staff were friendly and we got our drinks quickly. My friend and I both got the seasonal cocktails - I had the Blackberry Bramble and she got the Blueberry Basil Margarita. Both were delicious. We got a kick out of all the book themed names for the drinks. While we didn't browse the books this time, they had several shelves full for sale.

Open, clean and inviting. Great spot not to far from the highway. Stopped it to grab a snack on the way to an appointment and had time to research my 3rd book. Staff is friendly and had great recommendations. Would definitely come back to relax, snack and work on my 3rd book! I had a basic bagel with egg and plain black tea. Did not disappoint.

Really love the idea of this place, very solid matcha and coffee spot. Would recommend to anyone nearby looking for a place to meet friends!

Had a great time checking out the newly opened Book Bar! The interior is cute and they have books on the shelves that are available to purchase. There is also a children's corner with books and a few games as well. Their selection of drinks is great with everything from lattes to martinis! They have some food options that sounded good but we were just there for coffee and to hang. I went with a February special that was a mocha with raspberry cold foam. It was delicious and not overly sweet!! The overall feel of the space could have been a bit cozier (maybe lighting the fireplace or something) but it was still cute. The staff were very friendly and overall we had a nice experience. Will be back!

I love this new spot in Mokena! Great drinks, variety of sandwiches & overall cute vibe. I have been there twice already and they just opened last month. I look forward to many more visits here.

This was my first time meeting a friend there. It happened to be Halloween and Book Bar was decorated so cute! They already have an eclectic space with fun decor. There is plenty of comfortable seating and coffee tables. They have a great menu including special flavors & tasty pastries. I had an iced PSL & lavender chip cookie (delicious!) and my friend had decaf tea that came out on the most adorable tray with a timer for steeping and a tiny pot of honey. I will definitely rave about this place to my friends and come back for more tasty treats!

I'm currently a college student, so very used to crowded cafes on campus. This is an awesome addition to the already fantastic list of local cafes in the collective Frankfort/Mokena/New Lenox area. Love the La Colombe roast they use - and also love their glassware! So cute. Highly recommend if you're in the area. A little pricey, but for the atmosphere I thought it was worth it.

I am loving this place! Great place to sit and have coffee with a friend or alone. My husband and I both ordered the cappuccino one morning when I decided to work from here. I had issues with my computer so I did not drink my cappuccino and when I did, it was completely cold. I took it back and asked if they could microwave it and instead they made me a fresh cup. Personally, this blew me away because this is what you call taking care of your customers.

    Breakfast Burrito bowl (gluten free)

Great coffee, fun atmosphere. They were happy to help with the breakfast menu to make the burrito a bowl that was gluten free. I went back the next morning while in town.

Because this Samoa-flavored paczki didn't just meet expectations it absolutely body slammed them. First of all, shoutout to my amazing husband, who casually stopped and brought this home like it was just a normal Thursday and not a life-altering act of love. Sir. You didn't bring me a paczki. You brought me trust issues with every other dessert. Imagine the love child of a Samoa Girl Scout cookie and a cloud. The caramel? Aggressive in the best possible way. The coconut? Perfectly toasted like it knew it had something to prove. The chocolate? Just enough to remind you that life can still surprise you in beautiful ways. And the dough itself? So soft it felt illegal. I took one bite and immediately understood why people line up in the cold for paczki like it's a survival situation. This wasn't a donut. This was an experience. A personality trait. A reminder that I married the right man. 10/10. Would ruin my diet, my dignity, and my emotional stability for another one.

I came for the donuts but discovered cakes, cupcakes, coffee cakes, sweet rolls, danishes, sandwiches, soups, coffee, lattes, and more--all inside a gas station. Insider tip: If you love Paczki, the Tinley location carries them year-round, while the main bakery offers them seasonally around Fat Tuesday. I'll definitely be back for the donuts and Paczki!

TLDR; No vibe at all. Weak car turnout. Mediocre food. Don't waste your time…read more I feel like I need to write this to speak to the car guys and gals who have fond memories of the original Duke's. This is going to be long and you're going to be disappointed. I'm sorry. The History. I went to the original Duke's Drive-in with my dad for the first time when I was 6 almost 50 years ago. It was magical. The yellow lights, the sign, the soft serve ice cream, the oldies playing on the diner speakers, the full lot of hot rods and American muscle--moments etched into my brain for my whole life. I have some great memories from those cruise nights. I was sad when the drive-in closed and sold the lot, but with the retirement community across the street, it was always destined to end. Fast forward to the new location, some 20 or 25 miles south of Bridgeview. They have been here for a few years now, and I figured I had given it plenty of time to hit their stride. No longer close to where I live, it took a lot of time and effort to get there for the regular Saturday cruise night. We missed the entrance to the location twice because we couldn't see the diner behind the gas station and car wash, and the one way lanes offered nowhere to park for non car show participants. Once we finally found parking at the tire dealer next door, the fun started. The plan: food first, then walk the cars. We entered the gas station back door and found a single diner counter inside the station, between the pop coolers and the Icee machines (that were out of order). We ordered our food and waited. The floor was sticky like fly paper. The pop machine spit out flat, warm pop as if it had been unplugged for the last week. The faint smell of bathroom cleaning chemicals and fry grease were wafting in the air. Yum. We headed outside in order to not eat inside of a gas station, and found the only open picnic table 15 feet from a giant propane tank and ice bag chest. Wow. Looking around, there were not as many cars there as we expected--I figured we might be there a little early for the rush of muscle cars. The Food. EVERYTHING was beyond salty. I'm writing this a day later and my lips still burn. Holy crap, take it easy on the sodium. That's not flavor, that hiding a lack of taste. The beef was dry, cold and besides the salt, had no flavor. Even "baptized," the $10 beef was nowhere near the "Best Beef" (according to WGN). Standard fare at Portillo's is light years a better beef. Warm pop and cold beefs. Excellent. To be fair, my wife did enjoy her chili cheese dog (also super salty) and my daughter liked her Chicago dog (though, we did have to make 3 emergency bathroom stops on the ride home, so do the maths). The Cars. I explained already my memories from Bridgeview. I also mentioned that I thought it was a light turnout for a beautiful Saturday night at 6pm. Turns out, once we sat down to eat, almost half of the cars in the lot decided to leave. I don't know where they were going, but the exodus of Challengers, Camaros and Mustangs was telling and hugely disappointing. I think I overheard someone say something about Rt66 drag strip in Joliet, but the empty parking spots they left behind was a bummer. Before we were finished with dinner, most of the cars I wanted to take a closer look at had left for who-knows-what reason. The Conclusion. I honestly went into our "new" Duke's experience with low expectations and a sense of humor about the "new" south side gas station locale. I wasn't disappointed--my low expectations were met, and the whole event made me laugh. The vibe of the old drive-in was epic, and absolutely has not been re-created in Mokena. The food at the old drive-in was great diner food with awesome beef, burgers and dogs, and buckets of almost perfect French fries. The cars at the old drive-in were overwhelming and intoxicating to a youth in the 80s. The old drive-in was the only thing on my mind the second school let out on Friday afternoon. The new Duke's is an inherited name and logo, and nothing else. It lacks character, charisma and any vibe of an old school cruise night drive-in. The food was mostly edible, and that's a low bar for a diner. The sticky floors and propane tank don't add to the mystique, they make you a punch-line. You can't recreate an icon if you are just looking to slide by using someone else's brand.
