What's strange, is that most of the space used to house my favorite thrift store, run by The Cat Adoption Team...but I digress. I had the incredible opportunity to talk with the shop's owner, Lori. She is a major book lover, is extremely knowledgeable and has the best organization system for her inventory. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she has areas within the store for us. I love knowing where I can find an array of queer books by genre, including a small selection of new books. Vast majority of the inventory is used and the prices are extremely reasonable. I can see why customers are loyal to this store. I was so impressed, I bought a few books and also signed onto be a monthly member. This helps ensure that we keep these unique small businesses in business. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and supporting them. It's a trek for me but it's my new book home and I highly recommend them. Friendly staff, easy parking and very reasonable prices! If you love books, you will love this place!

This one is not as big as their popular location, but it is definitely still very spacious with a Barnes & Nobles type vibe. They still have a good selection of products here and prices are fair. All of the staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely stop by here to browse around and get a drink right next door at ChiCha San Chen as well!

An emporium of both new and used books (always make sure you check the price sticker on the back before purchasing in case you really need a new version of a book), there is a little bit of everything here. In addition to books, this is a great stop for souvenirs including pins, local snacks, lines, and mugs. If you're short on time, you can kill two birds with one stone here at Powell's. If you're not short on time, seek out a pass for the Rare Book Room and scope out the treasures on display there. Like everywhere else in Portland, bathrooms do have a code, so seek out an employee before looking to use the facilities.

This location is a pretty good size and has a lot of art and home decor items. If they try to upsell you on their membership club, know that it costs $25 a year. Vintage Books has been a haunt of mine for decades. Prices were always excellent, the selection surprisingly robust, and the staff friendly and helpful, if a bit timid. Happily, not much has changed in the last thirty years, and this is one of the few instances where I would say that is absolutely a good thing. In the age of Amazon, eReaders, audiobooks, and every other conceivable method of circumventing the written (and more importantly, *printed*) word, it's almost shocking that little backend bookstores like this are able to survive...but I am thankful that they have.

There are even used tools in decent condition, and occasionally artwork, appliances, lawn hardware and more. I wouldn't compare it to Goodwill though : they are fairly picky about what they accept as far as donations, and there are no clothes. As someone who's both donated and bought here, I'm a fan. Prices are more than reasonable and you're saving this stuff from going in the dump.
