I'm very surprised I just asked a question - about the key chain...(I've attached the photo - Green belt one by marc by marc) I was told "I've never seen this one. Im working long enough here...." The man at the store is so sarcastic not helping Customers at all. Now, I understand why this store is always empty. I'm hoping the owner -Marc Jacobs knows about his employees doing to esp; very long customers. I'm a big fun of Marc as well as I support his business since Bleeker street location opened. I've always loved coming here ever since I was in high school. They have a bunch of cute Marc Jacob branded accessories that include everything from pens to phone cases. You can shop for books and other cute items and then go around the corner to magnolia bakery to grab some treats before sitting in the nearby park with your new book. They also sell clothing items here as well and the staff is always very friendly. read more

Terrible customer service. There were two employees, a man and a woman. I was there around 12pm on September 9th. They didn't ask if I needed help, there were not friendly at all. I didn't feel welcome. I was at the Bookmarc store in Tokyo earlier this year and the employees there were the nicest! (Only in Japan!). That's why I was so disappointed visiting the NYC location. The Boyfriend brought a really nice suede Marc by Marc Jacobs wallet here about two years ago for only $23. He just replaced it today. I've picked up cute long necklaces here for less than $20. They look super cute with just about everything and it's Marc Jacobs! Tip: Things are final sale here so make sure you've made your final decision before buying! read more

What a beautiful store! But the woman behind the counter on Monday afternoon was hostile as a high school bully. When I casually asked her if she liked the Cookie Mueller book I had bought, she glared at me, and said "I don't think I can give you a real answer." When I asked why, she dryly said "because we have different lives," throwing me deadpan, dagger vibes, coldly staring at the computer. I was shocked. (I am white, but I'm still a person.) I asked her to elaborate, my tone neutral, and she straight up ignored my question while swiping my card. I don't know what assumptions she was making about me based on my skin color, but I was being nice. That exchange was frightening and obnoxious. Won't be returning. I can't believe employees can get away with treating customers this way. YIKES! read more

I'll be honest, I didn't come in here loooking for a book at all. Was I opposed to the books!? Of course not! I even breezed through and looked to see if there was any books I wanted to by. I'm funny about my books and if I'm not reading something online I'm buying it on amazon..so buying one of these books was pretty much out of the question. I spotted some photography stuff. Wierd stuff. Hipster, Artsy, You probably wouldnt find any of this in a library type of stuff. I came in here looking for a canvas tote. For whatever reason MJ felt it made the most sense to dissemble the accessory store and scatter all of its wonderfulness between like 3 different stores. DUMB IDEA MR. JACOBS! REAL DUMB IDEA! Anways, plenty of books, lot's of school supplies, and the canvas totes I was looking for. I got a tote and some school stuff as a gift to my little cousin...starting her 1st year of college. There was plenty of schoolish knick knacks so it was the perfect spot. Workers were friendly. Definitely friendlier than the workers that used to be in the accessory store. The only thing I warn you is to be totally comfortable with brushing up on strangers and grazing them with body parts you may or may not be ready to share. It's TIGHT as a butthole in there so be prepared. read more

I came in here hoping to run into the owner, Marc Jacobs, but they enticed me with their novelty merchandise. The place is small, so if you are claustrophobic like me then I would not recommend going inside during peak hours. I suggest crowd control like they do at Magnolia Bakery. However, I did enjoy the eye candy that worked there. The staff are so unbelievably helpful and I was just browsing. They have totes with cute Marc Jacobs logo on it and the prices are not bad. The books subjects are really eclectic because one moment I was reading about the history of Jeopardy and the next I was looking at a picture book of nude beach goers in Brazil (ahh my eyes!!). If you are interested in fashion, photography, or anything artsy - then this store is right for you! They have really neat novelty items like lipstick pens, key chains, condoms (WTF? Marc Jacobs must preach safe sex), sharpie markers, notepads, etc. They have a downstairs too but it was closed. I think it could be their inventory area or something. The stairs to go downstairs looked like it could only fit one person at a time. Lastly, I got a free bookmark that said BookMarc - Oh Marc, you're so clever. read more

Superb and highly curated bookstore. I love it.

I was in the city visiting my sister a couple of weeks ago and we sort of couldn't resist a trip to BookMarc. Our mom actually heard that the store was opening first (nary a bookstore in the country opens that she does not know about) so we figured if she tipped us off then we couldn't really not go. We had to report back! My boyfriend's response to my text message describing our destination was: "I'm sure all of the books will be stylishly bound and impossibly thin". Could not have said it better. The shop was a mix of (overpriced) humorous, kitschy items: journals with title pages such as "The Gay Gatsby", "As I Lay Tanning", lipstick pens, etc... and then lots of books that I would like to read. Many of them were (surprise!) about style and fashion, stylish subjects, and an extensive selection of biographies also piqued my interest. The section that I spent the most time perusing was largely non-fiction, but I think I spotted a novel or two as well. More importantly, I saw a lot of books that I think I might not find easily elsewhere. The huge photo album entirely devoted to Kate Moss by Mario Testino was cool, although not something I'd want to own. I was a little skeptical that it was going to be a Marc Jacobs boutique masquerading as a bookstore, but the books outnumbered the accessories for sale (barely...) Still a fun place to stop and browse. read more

Adorable little shop in West Village. Key word: LITTLE. Perhaps I hit the Saturday mid-afternoon rush, but I was barely able to navigate through the store and had to basically plow over a few folks. (sorry!) This store has a variety of items from actual coffee table reads to trinkets by Marc Jacobs. From iphone/laptop cases to random pencils or key rings, it's worth exploring if you're in the area. Items range from $10 - $100+ depends on what you buy. Cute store with a clever little pun. It's a really small, crowded space with art books and other paraphernalia. I ended up purchasing a $13 "amare" necklace. The staff there was really helpful... my mom was trying to find a landmark site in Greenwich village, and they were trying to help us by looking it up online. AMAZING This place has some of the coolest little things. In addition to all the fab books and stationary, there are tons and tons of cool Marc Jacobs accessories, purses, etc. Everywhere you turn there is something new to look at. The place is tiny, so it promotes lots of movement. It's hard to standing one place with a constant flow of customers in and out. But every time I made my rounds I found something new and exciting to add to my "cart." I bought a fantastic ring that I have been wearing everyday since, an amazing lipstick pen (perfect for me), and small leather wallet perfect for a few bucks when out on the town. I am not fan of Jacob and I am not a fan of their art collects in this bookstore. So I only give it as a 3 star. But if you like Marc Jacob, this one is an interesting spot for you to understand more of the hints of Jacob's fashion philosphy as well as his design style. My friend, who loves Jacob, loves this store really much. I was not paying attention to the books on the bookshelves. But all the books they collected based on the coverline seems really artistics. In addition, there are some wallets, bags and jewlery for you to choose and those are not that expensive. Last but not least, service is really nice. BookMarc is a great spot to peruse oversized coffee table art books or sift through Marc by Marc Jacobs signature trinkets (Marc by Marc mini sharpies, keychains, lipstick pens, etc.) Due to its location and name (and proximity to other Marc Jacobs' stores) this place is typically packed full of tourists and aspiring fashionista students. Avoid the crowd: come early on a weekday (they open at noon.) When it's not jam packed the staff can be quite friendly and helpful. Very crowded, very hippy and staff is very scary. The staff all look like vampires, like you're going to be their next dinner. I also felt like they were watching your every move and annoyed when you touched a product to look at it. So what does Marc Jacobs know about books? Well he doesn't but he knows how to sell other people's books, while at the same time, selling his own popular knick knacks like the canvas tote bags and necklaces. I assume most people come here to buy the "Marc Jacob" merchandises more so than buy actual books. However, I wouldn't necessarily consider this your average bookstore as most of the books they sell here are artsy and hipstery books. The one problem I have with this place is space. I feel like I'm surrounded by walls of books everywhere I turn and the next you thing you know, I'm butt bumping with the surrounding shelves and people who try to slide pass me. If you have claustrophobia, beware. Unfortunately, this place doesn't give me enough of the book-nerdy feel. I'll go back to my Barnes & Noble. read more

This place was so cute! Apart from the obvious pun, there was a lot of fun to be had here. Nothing was cheap enough to tempt me except a super-cute ring which was inscribed in Latin (like my wedding ring) and so I got one for the hubby. The line on it was reminiscent of part of our wedding vows... I knew it probs wouldn't fit him, but for $3 the gesture felt like it was worth it. I heart bookmarc. The staff was a little intimidating but I just pretended like I was as cool as them and my insecurities melted a little. They had a great selection of books and movies, Edie Sedgwick coffee table book, documentary on graffiti, every Sophia Coppola film, Nightwood. I wouldn't give them a dime. We asked them for a donation of a small gift certificate for a local charity in Greenwich Village, right in their back yard. They jerked us around for several weeks and gave us nothing. Funny that we asked the same of the other book stores in the neighborhood and they contributed with no issues. How many LOCAL charities in GV ask them for donations? Not too many. If they cant contribute to the community, we cant contribute to them. read more
