Pleasantly surprised by the massive selection of organizational goods and Japanese lifestyle/office/home products. I love coming to Muji for small stationary knick knacks as well as browsing through their clothing section and kitchenware section. The moment you step into Muji, you're immediately enveloped in strong and calming scents usually being misted throughout the store by their humidifier. Immediately past their humidifier station they have an assortment of bathroom necessities as well as stationary. I typically find myself here when the new school year starts and I have to stock up on paper, pens, and pencils again. Muji carries high quality paper and writing utensils that I live and breathe by. I love carrying a stack of their loose leaf paper and their low center of gravity mechanical pencil. It is definitely my absolute favorite mechanical pencil ever. Review on Muji Cooper Square: Zero Star. My wife bought three pairs of foot cover socks last Sunday and they are marked size 5-7. When she tried them they were way too small. She wears size 5.5 shoes, so obviously the tags on the socks were not correct. So we went back today, a week later, and asked for exchange. The cashier referred me to their manager and the manager refused flat out to exchange the pair my wife tried. The lady manager said she could only exchange the two pairs my wife didn't try. Her reason for not exchanging the one my wife tried with the larger size (7.5-10) was because the tag was removed. My wife asked how she would know if she didn't try it and how she could try it without removing the tag? The manager kept saying it was a store policy. This would never happen with other stores such as H&M, GAP, Nordstrom, e.g. If this is in fact Muji's store policy, it is extremely short-sighted thinking, and needs to be changed. Very excited to come to a muji store. Which sells austere Japanese household items. I purchased some pens but I can't wait to purchase more household items online. My gripe is that they are not always selling what they are advertising. Some of the colored pens on display are very very different than what is being sold. This also goes for packs of pens which are on display but not even sold through the entire store or on the web for that matter. I bought 3 packs of black 0.38 pens, a couple of highlighters, A couple of multicolored pens (only size 0.7 though) and scissors. It was about $70. read more

MUJI is a Japanese shop that offers household goods, decor, clothing wear, makeup, lotions, stationery, pens/pencils, and snacks. I actually prefer this location over than than SoHo's, as the items seem to be laid out more strategically and in a more organized way. I absolutely love playing around with their cute stamps (especially the rib-cage tank and the T-shirt!; you can actually use these on purchased stationery/books to personalize it) and checking out their home items (love their toothbrush holder!). My most recent favorite product is their Body Fit Cushion - it's a bean bag but it is SO soft and super comfortable! Probably one of the best bean bag chairs I've had a pleasure to sit on! It comes in a variety of colors, and the covers are included! We stopped by to pick up some bathroom accessories as well as pair of umbrellas. Understand its a final sale, called the store manager and explained what's the issue, the manager said, yes, bring it back and we will return it. So I went to the store, first a staff asked me 5 questions trying to justify that, oh it still works, since when you found out its not working, how did you use it, did you wait for a few minutes, balabala. I'm must really be that simple for this 5 Star review but I really don't care. For starters, the store was clean. Everything was in order and nothing seemed out of place and I was all over the place looking and liking. With a high traffic location and affordable goods, I was surprised and how nice the store looked. It was not messy. The ambiance was right too. It smelled nice but not overpowering. I can't remember what they were using but it was just right. The music was not too loud neither. It was just there. Some places do too much with their play lists and that makes me want to get in and out. I am for anyplace selling me a cardigan in Spring and Summer. If I can do that I'm happy with life. After picking out my cardigan I checked out some of the other clothes and found them to be sleek and stylish. As someone that came of age when brands and logos were stamped all over baggy clothes, I love the Japanese minimalism which I am sure is probably passé over there but it works for me here. When I opened the box to confirm the color (it was labeled "grey" but was really translucent; the grey brush was labeled "blue") I got a lecture from a harried, bespectacled young woman who was restocking, presumably hurrying because the store was about to close. When I tried to explain she started talking over me in an irritating tone, so I just walked away. I've always come to this store because I live in the neighborhood and want to support the people who work in it, even if it's for a huge chain. But why bother when they're so annoying? When I was at work a few weeks ago, an office assistant and I were talking about pens (I'm not sure how we got there) and she asked if I have ever been to MUJI. She wrote me a post-it note saying "get the .25 black pens, they are life" and she wasn't kidding. They really are life. MUJI is so neat, clean, minimalistic and quality. I love stationery so I dashed right to that section. I love it. I purchased three of the .25 mm pens (one for myself, one for sis, another for a friend), a 0.5 mm mint pen, and a pack of black 0.5 gel pens. Maybe I shouldn't share this on here or have shared via Instagram because they had ZERO BLACK .25 mm pens today when I went to purchase two more of those .25 mm pens and the pack of 0.5 pens :( I got the dark blue .25 ones. The power and control you exhibit when you write with it is incredible. The clothing section looks really nice, comfy, and stylish. They have flannel, vests, comfy sweaters, and jackets (a bit pricey though). Will definitely be coming back to visit the whole store and get more pens in the near future :) read more

I bought a bed, pillows & covers, and some throws (cotton & linen) that are easy and kind designs. I noticed this visit, some kitchen tools. I rushed to look for what I had been looking for, an tiny whisk, that often use to mix small things: potato powder to finish up to create creaminess to my dishes (Chinese food mostly) and an egg or salad dressing for one or two. This tiny whisk quickly mix anything fast. I also bought long cooking chopsticks, silicon tips help to pick up much easier than usual bamboo material and it's in a black color. Oh!, I shouldn't forget about this amazing makeup pencil sharpener, no breaking but clean finish. I've been using MAC and many others but this one has been a reliable one. Lastly, another small but very useful kitchen tool, daikon grader & slicer (white). Not only good for radish but any root vegetables, like Caribbean yams. It easily make those roots to creamy gooey things. I haven't used the slicer yet but I am sure it is easy to use. I almost forgot that the bottom of grader or slicer is a container to keep everything you worked on. Last Christmas, I bought some good chopsticks that I wanted to introduce good Japanese chopsticks to my husband's side of new young ones, as one of their Christmas gifts. I asked my friends in Japan to send me some, not MUJI. They were good but after I have seen equally good ones here. I also like MUJI's chopstick designs, simple basic but with a newness. For apparel wise, I only bought a jacket from MUJI once in Ginza, Tokyo. The quality is excellent. The design is simple and easy to wear, but honestly some are too basic for me. If I want basic I opt for Uniqlo. I'm not so much bothered by their size or their lack of inventory as I am by the fact that a lot of the product prices in the stationery area were mislabeled. For example, my friend and I wanted to build our own pens, and the pricing labels showed that the pen 'bodies' were $4 each and the fillings were $0.75 each. Sort of pricey for a pen, but we figured that since we could customize the pens exactly to our liking, we went for it. However, when we looked at our receipts later, we discovered the bodies were actually $3 each and the fillings were $1.50. That is quite a huge discrepancy!! The pens that we thought would come out to less than $6 each were actually more than $7 each. It's not so much the final price as the principle that bothers me about this whole thing. For such an established business, it is surprising that they are not more careful about labeling their inventory! Anyway, I guess the lesson is that you should probably check with the cashier that your items are all priced the way you expect them to be before you make a purchase. read more

I've been an MUJI addict since the 90s. Each MUJI store is a bit different. This one is pretty big and new, but still didn't have everything I was looking for, so if you're looking for completeness, make sure you check the other stores. They could've been sold out, so who knows. If you live in the usual shoebox of an apartment, it always helps to shop with measurements. I went close to closing time, bought a bunch of things and the staff couldn't have been nicer. My stuff was also packed perfectly for me to hop into a cab. It's also ideally located for those in the EV - no longer need to hop over to Flatiron. The ground floor is all the usual small stuff. You can find furniture on the lower level. After I came home and organized my bathroom, I wondered why I waited so long! **For BIG MUJI fans who will travel to Asia, stuff there is much cheaper!** read more

If you're into a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, you'll enjoy Muji. They have all sorts of organizational tools as well as very basic home goods and clothing. You'd probably be pretty bored if every item in your home and closet were from Muji, but they do a good job at supplying certain very helpful items! My personal favorites include their little toothbrush holders (great for storing the interchangeable electric toothbrush heads in my house), drawer organizers, acrylic stacking drawers for small items and jewelry, and their oil diffusers. I think some items are a bit overpriced (for example, their dishware collection), but if you find that perfect item that you need in your house it's worth it! read more

Ask any college student, asian girl or human being and they will tell you that the 0.38 muji black pen DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. I can literally feel my hand writing become even neater when I use this pen. I put my boyfriend on to this pen and now he pesters me to buy him new ones everytime he finishes up the ink. Muji Cooper Square is the newest location and really well done. Two stories of everything you need to get organized. My only complaint is that they don't deliver. Unlike Container Store or Bed Bath and Beyond, the delivery policy as relayed to me was that I could FedEx my purchase twenty blocks to my home. I wanted to purchase 16 sets of dishware which I obviously didn't want to lug home on the subway or in a cab. Instead, I went to their online store to place my order and found that I couldn't fulfill my complete order. I ordered the most of what I could get for each item and then will have to fill the rest from physical locations. I'm just hoping that I can do that in one store and not run around from store to store. Muji outside of the US has a very good name, but here in NY, they're working very hard at being bad. The store is dirty, a decent layer of dust covers pretty much every display case, shelf etc. The prices abroad are usually very affordable, yet somehow, in the move to NYC, they are quite jaw dropping, and nothing here seems to be made in Japan. Muji is a Japanese company that prides itself in its traditionally Japanese customer service, yet this location is staffed entirely by non-Japanese, who's emphasis is on anything BUT customer service - and that is very prevalent at this location. If you want customer service, go elsewhere, as in another city at least, or possibly another country. I ordered two thousand dollars worth of sofa and everything needed to make it look like one (Muji nickle and dimes you to death with things like covers and feet being extra) and when they didn't have all the parts, only after being prompted did the sales person even begin to cough up a very stingy discount on the parts that were not available. Then, in the middle of the transaction, he switched to another customer for ten minutes while we stood there with that "WTF?" look on our faces. No apologies later, he came back to us and began to arrange delivery, which was another $200 to Brooklyn(!!!). 2 grand, and they don't even offer a discount on delivery, let alone free delivery! See what I mean by nickle and dime you to death? The delivery company isn't even part of Muji, they're just some guy with a van that they call. If you want, you can pick your merch up at their warehouse, but who the hell has a car big enough to fit a sofa and ottoman in the city??? Delivery was pushed back a week suddenly as the warehouse decided to be closed on the day they were supposed to release our merch. When the delivery finally happened, it was abrupt and unceremonious - just business. Once we opened the boxes to begin the long assembly process (Ikea, eat your heart out!), we noticed the ottoman cover was missing. I called up the store at Cooper Union and got probably the most unintelligent person in the City. I honestly doubt she can chew gum and breathe at the same time. Needless to say, she never shipped out the ottoman cover. I called back a week later to inquire about it, and yup, it was sitting there at the store. "You can come pick it up whenever you want" said the sales kid on the phone. After explaining that it was supposed to be SHIPPED to us, he eeked out a quick "sorry" and promised that it'd be delivered in 4-5 business days, which it was - with my name butchered on the address label, even though I S-P-E-L-L-E-D it out twice. Sigh... I guess I don't have to say that we're not at ALL impressed with Muji, their employees, or their prices. The couch worked out okay, but after all that money spent, and all that time spent in the store and on the phone, it really wasn't worth it. Disappointment. read more

For reference, I am a huge Muji fan. I've been to Mujis in Japan, Taiwan, China, LA, and New York. Obviously you can't compare Mujis in Asia compared to the ones in the States, but that doesn't mean that you can't get good stuff here! This particular branch compared to the other Muji stores in America is definitely the worst. The selection is so minimal compared to the others. First off: I just love Muji! Their store near Bryant Park is one of the nicest ones I've ever been to. However, the Cooper Square one is pretty small and obviously doesn't carry the variety of items that a bigger one does. It's good for office supplies and some of the smaller boxes. I love this Muji! The atmosphere is minimalist, quiet and relaxing whenever I shop here and the cashiers are very nice as well. It is a nice place to browse and get some ideas on how to arrange your home/space. I really only buy the stationary and essence oils so i'm not sure what their other products are like.
