They're a really great bookstore! We have a membership and sometimes come here to kill time before a movie. They do take in used books, which my partner has been able to capitalize on for a rare manga he's trying to collect all the volumes for. They're section for social sciences though SUCK. I'd say Barnes and Noble and Bookshop.org still come out on top. It feels they barely have a section for history and science even. Plenty of space for Christians though... new age books and items are up front in this side obscure area near the cafe like they are trying to hide it. Plenty of toys and novelty items and games to look at. Funko pops (which I look at). It feels like FYE fused with what was left of a bookstore and just was like "we must do this to survive" energy. Never my first choice, but glad to have a choice... in the mall at least. Also they have vinyls and you can order books from them, but I'd suggest just going to Bookshop.org at that point read more

Located inside Sugarloaf Mills Mall, this is a great spot for picking books, gifts & more!!! Parking 4 where the back of the theater is, front doors, turn right... it is around the corner. They have everything section & even a bargain area where I found a great book of MLB Stadiums for a gift. Friendly staff who know right where to find what you need. Don't be shy, ask- they actually get excited to walk you around. The store is way bigger than you think! Prices are reasonable & they keep the store as clean as possible. Was in the store less than five minutes and I was followed to the back by an older white man. It was obvious he had intentions of following me all throughout. I did not purchase anything I felt very offended by this exchange as I have never stolen a thing . Unfortunately I was not able to pick up a book today due to this experience. read more

Tawanna is your best employee, I lost the receipt so I'm not sure if I spelt her name correctly. However, she was fantastic, my daughter was wondering around dancing to some music, and Tawanna jumped right in with her, made my daughter laugh so hard she almost fell. We love going out, but it's people like her that make us wanna go Back again. She's amazing, and come check out she was a treasure helping us navigate your store. Hope we see her again soon! I love books a million and I love that you can easily access it on the back side of the mall. You can go in and out without circling the entire mall. It has a small coffee shop inside which is nice but there isn't a ton of seating which would be a plus. A book store is a book store but I enjoy shopping here because somehow I always get lost shopping for miscellaneous mugs, pens, pops, journals etc. This is a great store for gift shopping! I've gotten several cool trinkets from here. I love their book selections and the staff are always so nice and helpful. I wouldn't come here with the intent of sitting and reading for a while as there is lack of regular seating areas. There IS seating just not a lot like you would find at some Barnes and Nobles. However, I've come across people popping a squat on the floor. Anyways, a book store worth checking out! read more

I like this place, simply because the kids book section is organized well. The classic books like Hungry Caterpillar, Give a Mouse a Cookie, etc are located in one place, other books are organized by topics like space or shark books. Prices compared to online vary, some are competitive, some are vastly more expensive. Staff is also bare bones, but that's a bit understandable considering there's not as many customers as there used to be. read more

This location was big! The clearance selection was mega large. The children's books and toys areas were equally sizable to their clearance area. There were cute little finds that perhaps either only this location carry or something I've never noticed before like solar powered trinkets and animal shaped night lights. The staff here was sweet and friendly. There's a mini cafe area with tables and chairs if you're needing a place to read or rest. Overall an adorable BAM. read more

Staff made no effort at all to assist when inquiring about the specific books either by title or Author. Told me to look online at their website. I did so immediately, from my phone, while in store and ordered the books. I paid for two day delivery. Two days later I received email notice that my items had shipped. Five days later I checked back and saw that my item has still not left the distribution center; although, they had provided the tracking number for the items that they supposedly shipped. Two days later the package had still not arrived. It has now been two weeks and based on the tracking number, The package was picked up today at the distribution center for shipment. Clearly they had not shipped the books at all. They produced a shipping and tracking number and then did nothing for two weeks. I still have not received my purchases. read more

Well, it would seem that not much could go wrong with a book store other than not living up to their printed return policy. Followed the return policy to the letter and was told that if I made purchase with debit card, it would have to be a credit to the card. Debit cards are considered a cash purchase and I was a "member" (paid for the privilege) so I should have received cash; not a company policy. Oh well I won't be back and they did refund my "membership" purchase. Wow, I tried to start buying from a storefront but they make it so hard. Back to Amazon Prime!!! Big selection of books and other random stuff like board games and t shirts. I'm still not convinced if they actually have a million books or not (can someone please confirm this?). BAM is one of the few remaining original stores that has been opened since Sugarloaf Mills first opened up, which back then it was called Discover Mills. They always have some sort of deal going on. Every now and then they do have a book signing from some small time author. Popular books are usually always in stock. The cafe is not too bad. They have what you would find at most bookstore cafes like coffee, desserts, and other beverages. Good bookstore overall! read more

(As a contrast, I called a second store where the clerk helped me find the book in hardcover and paperback, and ordered it for me, and helped me get free delivery to my home.) So I want to start off by saying I have been going to book a million for many years. Spend tons of money because I think have books are amazing, love having a real copy of a book. I went there on Labor Day (Monday sep 5th 2022 around 2-4pm) with my family as my daughters were looking for a new book to read. My husband as well was looking for books on business. As I was walking each row I come across the religious books. I was upset to see the Quran was on a bottom shelf. I picked it up and placed it on the top shelf. Something in me told me to buy it, so I took the book with me and gather my family to go to check out. I saw a man stocking the shelves so I decided to tell him that I have a concern. Little did I know he was the GM. I kindly went to this man and said " hey, this is completely out of the blue but can you just make sure the Quran isn't on the lower shelves, it's very disrespectful to the holy book and it should be place a little higher". I thought I was giving him a little infor about it to just make sure it's respected since this is a book store and if you're going to sell specific books that they should know about it. He then got an attitude with me and said WORD FOR WORD " so? We have bibles on the lower shelves, why is this book being on the lower shelves disrespecting it?" I then counting to explain to him that as Muslims we value the holy book and never have it just on the floor. And that I'm sorry that he feels the Bible as well should be on lower shelves ( a little fun fact, as Muslims we also don't have the Bible on the floor as its a holy book and must be treated with respect even if we don't follow it). He said I don't understand what it even matters and that there nothing he going to do about it. It's how the book will be placed. He rolled his eyes as I went on to tell him that he should at least try. It's extremely sad to see how this world is now. More so this country. How it's so easy for a white man not respect other way of life. How someone that's a GM can brush a simple request? I know as a GM he could have gone to the owner or however is above him to pass it on. No, he wasn't having it cause it was something different and he just didn't care. How is it that he's the GM and has little care for book? Has lack of knowledge about things he should know? Why work there is you want to be as rude as this old man was? How could he think his words were ok to be spoken to someone who was just giving him information about a book he's selling. As I walked to the cashier,( her name was Eunice) I had still a little hope that someone would understand how important this book was to me, as I explained to the cashier that if she can not touch the book but scan it and not place it in a bag but the bag I was buying be scanned and I place the book in it. She was really caring for my feeling and was ok with it. I did tell her she was more understanding than the bearded man in the back. I then asked her does she know who I'm talking about. She looked at me and said that's the GM Dave. I told her to write his name and I'm going to make sure I write who this man really is. So sad that he felt the need to make something that mean so much to many as it was nothing. As a customer who spends her hard working money, who had a positive attitude toward him be brushed off so easy. That taking the small feed back I was giving him be so hard for him to understand. So if you do go there. Please stay away from Dave And I hope someone from there sees this. Because he is now the face of BAM and it's an ugly old face now. What a shame. read more

usually my experiences are great and i love it since it's the only place nearby with a books a million instead of a barnes and noble (not hating on b&n, bam just has a much broader selection). i love it because i can find pretty much anything i'm looking for with a few volumes of each book, it's wonderful! just beautiful and rather big with tons of variety! recently though i had a handful of books including some that were rated 18+. now i was aware of that but i've just never had a problem with it outside of books a million. however, when i went up to pay the cashier seemed to scan those last and asked for my id rather than payment. i was confused for a second as i wasn't aware i was buying alcohol or drugs? it's literal books. when i explained that it was in a bag that a friend had he refused to sell me the books even though i could've simply paid using apple pay and shown a photo of my id if it was that important. he was as stubborn as ever and instead laughed with his coworkers who were doing nothing but sitting around. i just looked at him with a "really?" face as i couldn't believe he was making such a big deal out of nothing, and then had the audacity to try to sell me a membership before even asking me if i had one?? i made sure i wasn't inconveniencing anyone behind me and pulled out my phone to purchase and show him my confirmed order from barnes and noble on the books he put aside and wouldn't sell. like the place is amazing, just the workers suck and are so judgmental. the same thing happened before a few months ago but the lady just glared at me and didn't say anything, she was a bit slower and definitely looking at me in disgust as she rang up my books. anyways barnes and nobles wins with customer service and idgaf attitude as to what the customer buys. i'll probably just go until my membership expires and won't be coming back. read more

I love it here. Discover Mills (it will always be that to me, even though it's technically Sugarloaf Mills) happens to be my husband's favorite mall. I don't have much use for most of the stores except BAM. I've never had a problem with the staff, the prices are good, & the membership has a lot of great perks. The last time I was in there, I got 4 new(ish) releases for the price of 3. As with all things, assess your habits before paying for the membership. It's actually cheaper for me to get most of the books I want from here rather than Amazon. Plus, I get instant gratification. It's worth a look if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of your way for it. Unless you're me & can devour a book in a day. Just sayin... read more

I love going to bookstores because you never know what you're gonna find. I love looking at books, in general. Sometimes I will buy books on discounts and they're great deals...and gifts! Books A Million is located inside Sugarloaf Mills. I often stop here when I'm at the mall. Sometimes just to browse to see what I can get. I joined their book club so I could get deals throughout the year. There is a membership fee though. I figured it'll be okay. My daughter is a bookworm too, not only with manga but with teenage book series. After my annual membership was over, I decided not to renew because I didn't get to use most of the deals. We went online to find the books she wanted for cheaper instead. I got tricked into getting these magazines that were "free." I should've known nothing is free. My credit cards got charged. I never gave authorization for that but I should've read the fine print. It was an annoyance and hassle to cancel them. You won't get a human, just automated voice. Overall, that experience made me dislike them more and I will continue online shopping for my books for now on but will still by to take a break from walking around the mall. read more

Pretty large sized bookstore that you could find yourself getting lost in perusing the aisles. I didn't want anything here but found myself flipping through several books and experiencing excellent customer service from the staff, who were able to point me in the right direction of both areas of the store I wanted, and recommendations of books I didn't know I wanted. Inside the book store is a nice little coffee shop called Joe Mugs. I didn't stop in for any, but they seemed fairly busy. One of the mild dings i'll give them is I found myself at their calendar section, and noticed all the 2015 calendars were gone. I know, I know, it's August. Still, I have seen heavily reduced calendars at other bookstores in the past, and was disappointed to see only 2016 calendars. Located within the Sugarloaf Mills mall, there's lots of foot traffic and it's a nice quiet stop when you're trying to take a break from the noisy atmosphere in the mall. read more

Garbage. There is never anyone to help you, although they talk about having an aggressive sales team...pfff! When you do finally find someone and ask a question, they look at you like a deer caught in the headlights, and talk to you like you're stupid, while smacking gum. Yeah, fabulous customer service... Oh, and definitely don't apply here if you are looking for an entry-level position to build yourself. They will say that they are looking for aggressive, experienced sales people...does anyone who comes in here ever have employees pushing books on them aggressively? NO. Ridiculous. Apparently, they don't know what the term "entry-level" means. The one thing that the store does have is a magnificent book selection, which the one star out of five will account for. I love many different genres, and this store has them. All in all, I could go to Barnes and Noble for that, and actually find people that are worth dealing with. Would give 0 stars but that's not an option. Upon checkout cash register attendant automatically enrolled me in magazine scam without permission and only after I understood they would start automatically charging my card in a month and asked to stop it he couldn't. Buying a book has immediately turned into credit card theft and fraud. The employee offered to have a manager call me back over the incident. Really these guys need to be investigated for fraud. read more

Went back couple days later and they refunded me for the full amount. And to apologize, instead of giving me a gift card for return, they gave me cash refund instead. When I asked what the initial problem was, they said they did not know the cause of the problem and was most likely a system issue. read more

What I find frustrating about this store is the selection, or should I say lack there of? It seems like every time I'm looking for something specific, and not out of the ordinary, but a book I've read about recently in a magazine or newspaper, they don't have it. I just don't get it. Huge book store that we don't have in Arizona, so I wanted to check it out. It's a lot like Barnes and Noble but also sells used product. The prices were average but it had a lot more than I expected and there was also a ton of things on sale for good prices. Was never bothered by staff, plenty of seating to browse and a HUGE comic section which you don't always see in regular book stores. Would be a nice addition to Arizona to fill in the gap Borders has left. read more

I then attempted to wait and ask the lady at checkout if she could help me find a book,she was very rude. Worst customer response time I have ever seen. I made a purchase and have gotten the run around trying to return the item without a receipt. I have the transaction from the bank, clearly showing the purchase and amount. Started the process on 12/29 and to date 1/10 still have not gotten a response. Tolds on 12/29, I would receive a return call in a few days. 8 days later I called back. According to the agent today, without a receipt they don't have to issue a refund. They don't offer an alternative either??? If I treated my customers in this fashion, I would not have any. read more

Love shopping here. Always clean, organized and super friendly staff. Great selection of books, magazines & pop culture. Only complaint is the staff at the register always try to push their store membership. It's get embarrassing to have to say no and then you get the guilt trip when they make a face at you. read more
