Coffee, pastries, books? It was heavenly. The coffee was delicious here, we were on a tight schedule, or else I would have enjoyed a day in here. Service was quick and friendly, it was busy, seating is limited. I recommend going to the back to enjoy the books first, then grabbing a coffee. Food and drinks are NOT allowed in the back by the books.

This place was so cute. The front half is a cafe and then when you're done eating and drinking, you can go to the back half which is a bookstore. Small but dense bookstore. I saw so many things I've read and that I want to read. The line for food/drink was a little long which told me it was good. Most of the seating was taken up but got a cute spot in the corner.

I love spaces like coffee shops and bookstores together. This is a gem in pacific grove. There's a fair amount of seating inside and a few small tables outside. I tried the Strawberry fields latte summer special (matcha with strawberry puree) which was yummy. I love that the bookstore is dog friendly but of course the cafe is not. Fortunately the book store staff was kind enough to babysit my boys long enough for me to get my latte.

Cute place. Line out the door but it moved fast. The chocolate almond croissant was really good and fresh! Husband really enjoyed the blueberry muffin as well. The staff was really friendly and helpful. I got the spicy iced chai and husband got the horchata cold brew. Both were delicious! They come out layered but I recommend stirring them to get the flavors mixed in.

What is bettCharming space with big windows, great coffee, and delicious pastries- (apple cinnamon coffee cake 10/10). Be advised the bookstore and coffee shop open at different times. Luckily, I caught that and went after 9am to enjoy both.

Cozy Coffee Spot with an Amazing Blueberry Muffin I stumbled upon this charming coffee shop in downtown Pacific Grove. It has such a warm, inviting vibe. I arrived right at 7a.m., when they open, but didn't have a chance to check out the attached bookstore. They offer a nice selection of espresso drinks and baked goods. I started with an almond croissant, which was decent but not as memorable as Captain + Stoker's. As I was leaving, I overheard someone asking about the blueberry muffins, which are baked daily by a French baker. They'd just arrived but hadn't been put out yet, so I hopped back in line to grab one. I'm so glad I did! It was one of the best blueberry muffins I've ever had; perfectly moist, flavorful, and fresh. I'll be coming back tomorrow morning just to have another. I also love that their coffee is organic and sourced from a roastery in Santa Cruz. My Americano was smooth and pleasant, though not quite as bold as some I've had while traveling. Still, overall this place is a gem. Friendly atmosphere, quality coffee, and that unforgettable blueberry muffin.

This place is such a gem. My wife and I make a point to come here every time we visit Monterey or Pacific Grove - it's become a special tradition for us. There's just something magical about BookWorks. The coffee is always spot on, the pastries are fresh and comforting, and the attached bookstore? Absolutely charming. It's the kind of spot where you can slow down, sip your drink, and browse through books while the morning fog rolls in. Cozy, welcoming, and full of good energy. Whether you're a local or just passing through, don't miss this place. It really does have everything we love - good vibes, good coffee, and great books.

We love to try different coffee shops when we travel, and Bookworks was our favorite find in Pacific Grove. This coffee shop was incredible. Delicious coffee, lively atmosphere, and tasty treats. Always love when a coffee house has some fun seasonal drinks. Their Very Cherry Mocha is decadent, rich, and delicious. Definitely not a refreshing choice to start to your morning as it's so sweet, but a great treat to compliment your day. Delicious croissants. Attached to a cute little bookshop as well. They open a bit later than the coffee house and don't allow the coffee inside the book portion, but super cute. You should check it out while you're there. It was get PACKED here. Line was about 15 minutes long, and it took over 20 minutes for them to make our drinks. Had to wait a beat to find a table. But seeing how many people there were, understandable. And the great drinks more than made up for it. Great choice to fill your caffeine fix.

My favorite coffee spot because the coffee is really good and has enough espresso without needing to order additional shots. If there's a line it does move pretty quickly. It is often crowded but you can get a seat inside or outside. There is a bookstore in the back. Seems a little chaotic but people are nice. I love that they have gluten free cakes, breads, and muffins (just depends on what's left). The Honey Lavender Latte is my favorite.

Super, super cute bookshop and cafe with so much homey charm. Ham and cheese as well as spinach and mushroom quiche were absolutely delicious, as well as the not-too-sweet coffee cake and absolutely perfect chocolate croissant. Staff were friendly and patient with our long order and everything came out very quickly. Matcha was just okay but my fault for ordering with no ice, the milk thinned out the taste. Cannot recommend the spicy chai enough. 10/10, would love to come here again.

I was there two months ago and purchased a banana muffin that was so delicious! Where do you get those from. It was stuffed with the banana 😘?

They used to get their pastries from Patisserie Bechler in Pacific Grove, ut I don't know if they still do.

Greetings, I am a steinbeck and Jungian scholar and am interested in purchasing a book from the Bookworks in Pacific Grove but the website listed on yelp does not work. is the store no longer operating? Thank you.

Yes, it is still in business.

A bookstore so lovely, so perfect, the quintessence of what you imagine when you hear the words…read more"fine bookstore." Everything about it is so spot on, the architecture, the lighting, the soft music, and the eclectic selection of books on offer. The owner, Ernest, was present, friendly, and very informative on questions about books as well as the history of the store. The books are unusual and in several cases rare, the prices reflect the value and seemed reasonable. An unusual first edition will be priced higher but in line with its value to bibliophiles. For example I saw a first edition English translation of Pablo Neruda's "Confieso Que He Vivido" autobiography for $50, in beautiful condition. I said the place looks like it should be in a movie, and Ernest replied that it will be soon. I happened upon it by chance, found a parking place in front of it while going somewhere else. But after running that errand I had to check out this lovely oasis of calm and source of fine books. I ended up buying a paperback novel based on life in Tule Lake during the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII, because my father was imprisoned there. I can't imagine finding this tome anywhere else.

I forgot how I found this spot, but I knew I had to put it on my list during our trip to Monterey…read more I love a vintage book store and this shop checked all the boxes. It was carefully curated and has something for everyone. Nothing spoke to me during my visit, but I loved the vintage 1950's mystery paperbacks. Old books have so much character and it's obvious that the shop appreciates and honors the past.
