Looking for a brunch spot that served substantial food and wasn't too fancy, my friends and I discovered Carmel Belle via Google search. The cafe is tucked away in a cute indoor shopping arcade next to other artsy boutiques. There were plenty of tables, even at peak Sunday brunch hour, and there was also fire pit for chilly mornings. The menu looked reliable - a variety of breakfast sandwiches, eggs served every which way, and even polenta bowls. While generally not a huge fan of breakfast sandwiches, I decided to try the poached egg on ciabatta with brie and spinach. After ordering, my sandwich was prepared in under 10 minutes. Upon the first bite, I rediscovered my appreciation for a good breakfast sandwich. I'd never had Brie with eggs before, and the Brie paired surprisingly well with the gooey poached egg and sautéed spinach. The freshly toasted ciabatta held its own against the creamy cheese and runny egg yolk. I think the sandwich could have been enhanced with a sweet element such as a layer of fruit preserves (which pair so well with Brie). While there are many tempting breakfast and brunch spots in Carmel, I'd definitely consider returning to Carmel Belle. read more

The avocado toast was overpriced for how small and plain it was. The turkey sandwich was also really small (a half sandwich at other places), lukewarm, and greasy. The side salad that came with my sandwich was depressing: a handful of wilted arugula, dried out shredded carrots, two halves of a cherry tomato, and like three cornichons. I really liked the cozy atmosphere, the indoor fire pit, the small market of pantry goods, and their selection of books/magazines/board games. After decades of coming to Carmel, I don't know how we've not stumbled across the Belle before, but glad we did this time. We were just looking for a quick bite to eat while walking around and ended up having one of the best Charcuterie Board's we've ever had; and the price was very good considering the high quality and quantity of food. The meats and cheeses were exceptional, and the portions were generous. The server apologized that he dropped a piece of toast on the way to our table and would come back with more. He came back with two slices of a very, very good Sourdough that was essentially an upgrade from the slices of garlic toast that came with the board. We came in here at the start of our day to get some grub and explore Carmel a bit. The area is super cute and fun to check out. There was a short line and the place was pretty crowded. The staff were working hard to get orders out, and attention was given handily. That said, I think we were both a bit underwhelmed by our breakfasts. We never expect much from gluten free bread (it's nice they even offer it), but my burrito was also like take-it-or-leave-it. Carmel Belle is a great place for casual eating and coffee. I was killing time waiting for a neighbor restaurant with my friends. We purchased the coffee and found a nice bench spot in the corner. I got the golden latte, which doesn't come with any coffee. I paid extra to add a shot of espresso. It was spicy because of ginger. Seating is plentiful. There is sunlight peeking from the roof, so there is good natural lighting in here. Location - finding Artemis rugs was helpful. Carmel Belle has a small yellow sign with a rooster hanging from the roof. The arched doorway makes it hard to see it from the outside. Parking - free 2-hour street parking around this area. Good luck. If you have reservations or time restrictions, come early just in case. Restroom - for customers only. Ask baristas for code. Excellent food (with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options), use of local ingredients, great price point, super nice servers, cute seating area with cozy fireplace and lots of pretty fresh flowers, and lots of good looking desserts (including vegan and gf options). Wish there was an option for 'half stars,' as I likely would have rated this restaurant at 3.5. I was compelled to try this (over other area options) based on a 4 star average Yelp review. The restaurant is part of a suite of businesses, but does have clear signage from the street. You order at a front counter, where you pay up front, and get a number to display at the table (for delivery). They offer breakfast and lunch options. We did not have to wait to order and experienced no line at noon on a Saturday. They had ample seating, which included a cool interior fire feature and an area that seemed to offer some board games. I ordered their green eggs & ham, while my husband (who typically gets a simple 'bacon & eggs' breakfast) ordered a breakfast burrito, when his usual order was not an option. My husband was not really impressed with his burrito, finding it pretty bland. On the other hand, one good thing was that it was served piping hot. My breakfast consisted of a couple of poached eggs served over prosciutto topped toast, with a dollop of what I believe was an arugula-based pesto. The toast was a bit too crisp, making cutting through it pretty difficult (I was worried I was going to launch my dish across the room as I tried to saw through it). I enjoyed the eggs and 'ham' part of my dish, but found the arugula pesto a bit too pungent and sour. I think it would have been a more successful dish if a basil pesto had been used instead. I've had similar takes on this dish with a basil pesto and just found it to be a more balanced and tasty option. Though we did not try it, there was a counter with pretty yummy looking pastries (which is also where their coffee drinks are served). I would consider a second try, to sample more options, though Carmel has a lot of competitors--which could also compel me to not risk another dish that might not meet my expectations. The BEST Salmon I've had in almost 43 years outside my country, Japan -- and the Sweetest owner ever! I rarely write reviews, but this one absolutely deserves it. My husband and I visited Carmel Belle the day after our big Thanksgiving dinner because I was craving something light and fresh. I ordered the Farm Salad with salmon, and I asked if I could switch the spring mix to half romaine and half arugula. The moment I took one bite of the salmon, I literally froze, and started becoming teary. I have lived in the U.S. for almost 43 years, and this was truly the BEST Salmon I have ever had outside of Japan - is absolutely NOT an overstatement !!! Perfectly seasoned, the outside lightly crisp, and the inside unbelievably tender, juicy, and melting in my mouth. This level of salmon is extremely hard to find in America, hate to say, but even at the highest-end restaurants -- it was shockingly incredible !!! My salad was so delicious too, but the following day I went back and adjusted it to 2/3 romaine and 1/3 arugula, and that balance was PERFECT. When I told Chantel (the owner), she got so excited and said, "Oh my gosh, I have to change the menu for that!" She was so Sweet, so warm, so genuine, and truly cared about the food and her customers. We came back again the very next day for lunch because the experience was that memorable. Chantel remembered us immediately and even came out to meet our dog, Leo. She was so Sweet with him and went out of her way to get him fresh water (Leo absolutely loved her too!). Moments like that stay with you -- real kindness, real connection, real hospitality. "Carmel Belle" is now officially one of my absolute must-visit places every time I'm in Carmel. Carmel Belle has the BEST iced tea ANYWHERE in Carmel. We've been in town three weeks so far (staying 6 weeks) and we have eaten lunch here 7 times so far. The first time we decided to eat lunch here I wasn't happy about it but since four other people were with me and wanted to eat here, we did. The only reason I didn't want to eat here was because it's not where the "action" is. It's located inside a big building and I wanted to eat lunch somewhere fun on the street where we could be in the sun or at least people watch through a big window. We ate here that first day and the food was very good. It was well presented and I realized that the atmosphere is actually quite lively. I ordered an ice tea (I normally would've ordered a Diet Coke) but I saw an ice tea sitting on a guest's table and it looked delicious) when we left I could not stop thinking about that ice tea. I talked about it for the rest of the day. A couple days later I wanted to come back specifically for an iced tea so three of us came in again for lunch. Ordered Tuna Melts, chicken Salad sandwich on a croissant, chicken soup, a couple beers (I don't don't drink but I think it was Blue Moon) and of course I ordered an Ice Tea with my avocado toast. So delicious. Now, You'd think it would be the easiest thing in the world to brew tea bags. It's not. I think it's the combination of the perfectly brewed tea, the ice ratio and the mason jar glass (cause we all know everything tastes like a mother's love when it's served out of a mason jar) . Fast forward 24 hours and I woke up this morning 8/31/25 and the first thing I craved was an ice tea from here. I walked down and ordered the avocado toast and an ice tea. It's 1:30pm and the vibe is high and the atmosphere is bustling. It's busy but in a good way. There are ample tables inside as well as a few outside. It has now become my favorite place to sit for a small snack or a light lunch. It is very reasonably priced the food is fresh and delicious. They also (generously) offer a complimentary water station for all to enjoy. The owners are easy to spot and have been there physically working on all of my visits. They appear to be very involved in the day to day operations and exude a sincere desire to succeed and it shows. They are there working hard right alongside their employees; who also have all been very hard working and nice and professional. Everyone is dressed in a black uniform style t-shirt with the logo (fantastic logo by the way) it is nice to see a staff that is so well put together and dressed professional. I know it sounds weird that something as simple as an ice tea can transform someone's opinion of a restaurant but it just goes to show that tiny details really matter. But I go on to say, the ice tea initially brought me here but it's the totality of all the things I mentioned above that make this restaurant a place I want to continue to visit and support. read more

I wish I could give this place a better rating as they are some of the few places that serve vegan food in the area. My girlfriend is both gluten-free and vegan so we were stoked to find this place. She ordered the avocado toast to be gluten-free the waitress said it would be no problem. We looked at the bread and knew right away that it wasn't. The server said it was, and we asked if he could double-check with the chef. Turns out, it was not gluten-free.
