The coffee is a mild in flavor without bitterness. I recommend the oat milk for a little flavor boost. Matcha latte - 8 Lavender Latte - 8 Cappuccino- 8 Latte - 7 Biscuits and Gravy - 6 perfect biscuit but the gravy was too thin. The flavors were good but need developing. Sun-dried tomato and steamed eggs - 7.5 Good pops of flavor from sun-dried tomatoes but needed more goat cheese to continue the party. Breakfast Tacos - 8 Amazing corn tortilla and flavorful eggs but needs hot sauce to max out the flavors. Ask for Tapatio! Breakfast burrito with Chorizo - 9 ok 10.... The chorizo is a sausage that isn't greasy. The potatoes and eggs are perfectly cooked. The salsa is absolutely necessary to add an element of sweetness. I'd like a little more diced tomatoes on the side to sprinkle on every bite. I really wanted to like Wild um because the menu looked like it had a number of vegetarian and vegan options. Alas, I don't think I'll be going back. I was interested in the half and half where you can get half a sandwich and a small bowl of soup or small salad, but when I asked what the soup of the day was and whether it was vegetarian or not the server was unable to answer and didn't offer to find out. I ordered a half vegetarian sandwich and the pesto salad. The sandwich didn't have any tomatoes and was pretty bland. But the salad was a real disappointment as it appeared less than fresh. There was something that looked like caramelised onions but I honestly wasn't sure what they were. There wasn't much pesto and the noodles looked off--like some of them had started to go bad. The whole thing looked like it had been in the cooler for a week. My friend ordered The Natural, a salad of oven roasted vegetables. It was ok he said but pretty flavourless. This place has the potential to be a place where vegans, vegetarians and ethical meat eaters could dine in a party together, but I can't recommend it. read more

This is a cute cafe offering indoor and outdoor seating, a restroom located around the corner of the building in the courtyard (accesssible using a code), and easy street parking right in front of the eatery on a lovely holiday morning. Guests put their name on the waitlist at arrival (their sign-in tablet uses the Yelp waitlist, so technically you can sign-in on Yelp in advance). Our quoted wait time for two people was "1-11 minutes" on New Year's Day. Service was excellent, the staff incredibly friendly and professional. We ordered the smoked fish platter, buttermilk cakes combo with overeasy eggs and chicken apple sausage, iced mocha, and hot tea. The pancakes were certainly fluffy and buttery as described on the menu, but that's cuz I asked for extra butter on the side (note, they didn't have sugar-free syrup available). The sausage and eggs were cooked perfectly. The smoked fish plate was tasty as well, made up of a nice mix of ingredients, a delicious bagel of choice, and fresh fruit. Creating community through food. Wild Plum Cafe's motto, stenciled on their plate glass window, speaks to everyone. As soon as you walk in, you're part of the community of breakfast and lattes and deliciously fresh muffins. Their pumpkin muffin and chocolate chip muffin are rich and moist, and so incredibly fresh you'll feel like your grandma just slapped them. My caramel latte is decadent and made with whole milk. I love that they fly the American flag. Outdoor seating is comfortable and dog friendly. Service is great! We've already been checked on twice. We're here in Monterey on vacation, and I can already see coming back tomorrow and trying two more different pastries. read more

We had joined the waitlist online and arrived. Since it's a weekend, the place was packed! Not a problem. However while waiting for about 5-10 minutes, one of the lady said we had to manually join the waitlist as their devices weren't functioning correctly. We put our names down and then another lady told us it would be about 30minutes to an hour wait. Okay. We hang around a little outside the place since it's packed inside. In the corner of our eyes another woman arrives. Goes in for a few minutes comes out to her group and say "they said we can be seated right away". Excuse me? Is this how a business is nowadays? I repeatedly told the waitress about her allergies, yet her pancakes came with butter. Even worse, all of our food was wrong. Every. Single. Item. At some point, it went past comical and became genuinely triggering. It honestly felt like they were intentionally doing everything wrong. If you need gluten-free options, don't get your hopes up. Horrible gluten-free toast is apparently your only option. Slow, disorganized, inattentive service and a complete failure to handle basic food allergy instructions. I was in Monterey for the half marathon last weekend. While most of my friends made a breakfast sandwich, I knew my gut microbiome needed some veggies so I doordashed some fiber. We were staying in the marina and the wild plum cafe was only 20 mins away. It came on time if not a couple minutes early. I got the morning salad with medium poached egg and chorizo and potato's, and added roasted corn pico, artichoke hearts, feta cheese, and pine nuts. I didn't even need to add the dressing because the roasted veggies were so flavorful. My partner said it was the best thing we ate all weekend, and I wholeheartedly agree. We were sat quickly however that was the last good thing about it. Two different women who introduced themselves came up separate times to take drink orders. We asked for 3 orange juices and x1 mimosa. We proceeded to then never get out drinks for the next 25 minutes and no one came to take our order. Finally we had to pull one of them as they walked passed us for umteenth time. They look confused and then sent a different waitress to us. She was Hispanic but very nice and said she would take care of us. We told her no problem for the wait we'd just like our drinks on the way. About 10 minutes later she came back with one of the first ladies and told us that they had ran out of juice they had barely enough for one mimosa. So 35 minutes of waiting to be told they didn't have what we wanted even though we had seen other tables receive juice. There was an apology and what else we could get. We asked for Cokes.. then waiting 10 MORE MINUTES for coke from a can and cups with ice!! By this point most people would have left but we thought we'd wait maybe they will help us get food faster or take care of us better but we were wrong. When we got the coke we asked to put our food order in since we'd already got to look at the menu for the past 45 minutes. After that we started to drink our drinks and noticed FOOD in the cups different pieces of green or red food chunks and some white in another. We didn't say anything but chose to just have our water. We then waited another 30 minutes for food before deciding we had enough waiting and no apology or explanation. Other than the one nice waitress. I've been here a handful of times. My first experience was pretty good. The food is good, especially the stack of pancakes with berry compote. The sunrise tacos with chorizo are good as well. The people are extremely friendly and welcoming. The downside of coming to Wild Plum Cafe is that the wait time to receive your food takes a good chunk of time. Last time I went, we were waiting for at least 45 minutes to an hour to receive our dishes. Throughout our time waiting, there were other parties approaching the servers about the wait time as they were anticipating the traffic they may encounter during their travel. Well, to start off the main chef/owner of restaurant came outside greeted and kept everybody up-to-speed on their seating and looked right past us didn't say a word. once we were seated. it took us nearly half an hour to get our food but before getting the food I had finished my coffee and set it at the edge of the table, which is a clear indicator for any waitress to pass by and notice to refill coffee. They must've walked by looked at the cup over 15 times so after 25 minutes or so I had to flag one down to get my coffee refilled not to mention the food was bland. This place is such a cute cafe and was a great breakfast spot. I got the mocha and the mushroom chimichurri wrap. The mocha comes in a gigantic mug which I was extremely happy with. It tasted delicious and I got to enjoy it :) The mushroom chimichurri wrap comes with mushrooms, potatoes, black beans, tofu, roasted corn, pico de gallo, and sweet peppers. Again great portion, BUT the chimichurri wasn't like the usual green one that I've had at other restaurants so I was kind of thrown off by that. For our last meal in Monterey/Carmel, there were a number of directions we could've gone in - something on our list of bookmarks, one of the spots we happened to walk by around Ocean Ave in Carmel, or even go back to First Awakenings to try more of their menu. However, after coming across The Wild Plum Cafe while looking up what to see in the Old Monterey area, we opted to come here instead. To be honest, it's not the most highly rated or eye catching place in Monterey, but after seeing the menu and how cozy the place looked, it seemed like a great spot for a lazy, relaxed brunch to start our last day in town! Inside, the look of Wild Plum is interesting - it almost feels like the cafe is set up within a converted commercial space. The ceiling is very high and the walls, which don't go all of the way up, almost feel more like partitions that separate the dining room from the kitchen. At the same time, it actually adds to relaxed vibe of this place. Similarly, we found the menu almost just as appealing. It may not be all that trendy or unique, but it's filled with a wide array of choices - omelets, frittatas, breakfast burrito and tacos, scrambles, skillets, steamed egg dishes, bowls, biscuits, and so much more. Plus, if you're looking for something vegetarian and/or vegan they have plenty of options as well! -- GUAVA SUNRISE - Sparkling Water with Guava, Cherry, Lime, and Passionfruit Juices...$6.75 As much as I wanted my usual coffee fix, I couldn't resist getting this...and I have no regrets! Despite so many juices thrown together, you could actually tastes elements of each, with the guava most prominent (thankfully). I liked that it was slightly carbonated too (not sure it works as well without it). -- LATTE...$6 I only tried a few sip of this, but based what I had, this was pretty solid. Not only did the coffee they use taste great, but I liked how it packed a nice hit of caffeine to keep us going, especially after giving up my own morning fix! -- SUNRISE TACOS - Choice of Meat (Chorizo) and Scrambled Eggs with Peppers, Pico de Gallo, Arugula, and Cheese in Corn Tortillas and Topped with Avocado Served with Country Potatoes, House Salsa, and Cilantro Cream...$18 I may not have expected this to be a small dish, but I didn't think it would be so hearty either! The tacos were surprisingly loaded with chorizo, eggs, and peppers and I liked that the tortillas weren't soggy/gummy. What's more, their housemade salsa and cilantro cream complemented the flavors well! -- BREAKFAST BURRITO - Choice of Meat (Bacon) and Scrambled Eggs with Onions, Peppers, Potatoes, Cilantro, Spices, Cheese, and Housemade Salsa...$15 Unlike with the tacos, the plate looked rather empty, but the taste of this was pretty decent. The burrito was fairly plump and I liked how there was a good amount of bacon and cheese in it (it's not just filled with potatoes). I do wish the filling hadn't been so wet, though (presumably from the tomatoes/salsa). While what we had wasn't too shabby, the overall service brought things down a bit. Not necessarily with regards to the servers, as the woman who helped us was very nice and came by often to check on us. Rather, it had to do with the same issue that so many others have already mentioned - how long it took for our orders to come out. I don't know if it's because they don't organize tickets in order or just do them at random, but despite how seemingly straightforward our dishes were, they came out after another table that ordered after us. That said, hard to complain when I'm pretty sure we got our food before another group that had ordered before us (not sure they noticed, though). Parking was plentiful and we got a spot right in front. (Note: it was 8 am, so by the time we left it was a lot busier.) We were offered drinks within 2 minutes of being seated, and the latte was beautiful and served in a unique clay pottery bowl. We had the vegan Mushroom Chimichurri Wrap, the special which was Strawberry Apple French Toast, and we added an order of country potatoes...nothing was left on our plates! So goo! The French toast was perfectly prepared and had the texture of moist sweet bread (i.e.: banana nut or zucchini bread) and the warm sliver thin sliced green apples (skin on) and juicy sweet strawberries made the perfect pop of flavor and balanced the creation so it wasn't overly sweet...YUMMY! The country potatoes were well seasoned & flavorful, perfect to pair with the French toast. The chimichurri wrap was hearty and filling with a very mild salsa on the side. Delicious. We are locals & decided to try out the Wild Plum before our beach walk. Perfect kick start to a beautiful coastal Monterey day. We'll be back to try out other items which captured the attention of our taste buds. As we were heading out the door, we couldn't help ourselves...we snagged a muffin & blueberry crumb cake to go! I visited Plum Café for lunch and left feeling disappointed. When we arrived, the café was empty except for one couple who were already seated and enjoying their drinks. We were told to choose any table, which seemed like a great start. Things changed quickly after that. Although we were the first guests seated, we were the last to receive menus. Our table was in a corner and it became clear that we were being overlooked. The couple who arrived before us already had drinks, which made sense, but guests who came in after us were greeted, served, and checked on long before anyone returned to our table. Once the café filled up, the service gap became impossible to miss. Every group that arrived during the rush was seated, helped, and given their food before us. We never received ours. The drink service added to the frustration. We asked for water and that was all we were given. Our glasses stayed empty through the entire visit while other tables received refills, new coffees, and steady attention. We waited about forty five minutes and never got anything more than water. It felt embarrassing to sit unnoticed while the café grew busier and every other group was helped. I understand that service can get hectic, but the pattern was difficult to ignore. It was hard not to miss that certain guests received quick and friendly attention while we continued to wait without any updates. In the world we live in today, moments like this stand out.
