Truly a great old school Irish Pub just off Bourbon street in the French quarter. Great old school look, amazing friendly locals and tourists alike. The best Guinness pour in all of New Orleans!! Just ask the bartender Lacey who recently won "Best Guinness Pour" for 2026! She's amazing and had me visiting two weekends in a row during my stay. All I can say is these bartenders (Ali I hope I spelled it right) all went to Dublin to learn goes to our a proper Guinness. The boondock is local and lovely and just a great place to hang out and chill. All the bartenders (I hate I can't tender her name but I loved her pink hair and we chatted the best convo). If you are headed to the French Quarter in New Orleans and you're a fan of the Boondock Saints movies, you need to visit this place. Just off Bourbon St. it's fairly small, bar seating for about 14 patrons, plus a couple benches with tables and chairs. I've been going to New Orleans twice a year for 13 years and every time you'll find me at Boondock Saint. They play the first movie continuously on one of 2 tvs, without sound, but hey, we know all the lines anyway, right? Anyway, stop in for a Guinness or whatever you like to drink. This somewhat divey French quarter bar has been a mainstay. I've walked into this place when you can barely fit one more person and everyone is elbow to elbow drinking happily. My husband and I visited this bar hoping to find a decent Guinness on tap. He was skeptical and started to leave after watching one waitress try to pour a single glass 4-5 times. A second waitress informed yes they had the best pour in town and had been told multiple times by people from Ireland it was the best they had ever had. She told my husband to pick his battles. Welp, when they tried to serve him Guinness in a plastic cup because they had no clean glasses, the battle was over. Needless to say we left without a plastic cup of badly poured Guinness. read more

I stopped in to see what their Irish Whisky & beer selections were looking like. They had quite a few whiskey options (Powers, Green Spot , & 12yr Red Breast), but only Guinness for beer. By far my favorite bar in NOLA. A local friend of mine recommended it as he knew I'm fond of dive bars :-) Just a half block off of the chaos of Bourbon St - I've never seen this place too crowded - even when there are people lined up across the street to get in to another bar. No nonsense bartenders, reasonable prices for a tourist area and the noise level is low enough you can have an actual conversation without shouting. Went in to buy and was turned down because I looked young. Had my unexpired ID and proof that I had a new one in the mail (address change) on top of my Covid shots and booster and the older lady behind the bar still said no. My boyfriend went in and wasn't carded or asked for Covid card verification. It was rude of them to not even check my age on a valid ID and valid paperwork. Make sure you don't look like your in college or have a man with you, Heaven forbid *eyeroll. I always leave a heavy tip and buy expensive bourbon. I'm sure he left a great tip. Awesome little dive bar right off the main drag of Bourbon Street. My boyfriend and I stopped in to kill some time before dinner reservations and were not disappointed. The place is small and dimly lit but the bartender was friendly and there were only a handful on people in the bar (locals mostly and they all knew each other). The drinks were cheap (especially compared to CA prices) and we enjoyed chatting with the locals and having a few rounds before making our way to dinner. come every year for French Qtr Fest. Recommended by a local who hits every bar and chose this one as one of his favorites. Best part is super easy to get to if you are near Jackson Square (which is center of where everything is happening) Rarely crowded (uh-oh, I should give a lower rating), especially mid-afternoon, which is the best time to get out of the heat and knock down a couple of pickle backs with the spicy green bean juice. Lots of regulars, so be friendly but cautious of which seat you take. Fun place, definitely will come back read more

Not a whole lot to say about this bar other than that it is one of our favorite go-to places when we're visiting NOLA. Friendly staff, decent pours, and a good amount of regulars and locals (which is always a good sign). It's just a great fun place to sit and chill if you want to avoid Bourbon Street but still be close enough to keep your options open. We will keep coming back for sure. A local's joint in the heart of the French Quarter! Or that's what it feels like, and that's why I loved it! We stopped in after the show at Preservation Hall for drinks and to use a bathroom (which isn't fancy....it's a dive just off of Bourbon Street....there are no pristine fancy toilets nearby....deal with it). Drinks are decently priced, particularly for the location. The bartender was fantastic. Friendly, and when we came back the next night, she remembered our drinks! Impressive! I met and talked to some locals as well as other tourists. All fun and friendly. This is my kind of place. During our 1st day in the French Quarter my Wife and I pretty much had the same routine. Dip in somewhere, grab a drink, then head back out to explore. Boondock was the only place that night we actually sat down at the bar and actually spent some time. Boonock Saints is one of my Wife's favorite movies so we already were on the lookout for this place. While the bar itself doesn't have a ton of things from the actual movie itself, it still has a feel about it. We stopped in again the next night too for an ice cold Smithwick's Draft. I can't believe this local's hang is within spittin' distance of Pat O'Brien's. Perch yourself in their big cut out window and laugh at the world going by, or catch the Big Game on one of their many TVs as some Kentucky fans chose to do, during the NCAA tournament the night I was there. The locals won't bat an eye if you're hootin' and hollerin' for your team, diversity is key here. Although the bartender openly dissed some banker type guy right to his face for ordering a Miller Lite with "that really surprises me". The guy sitting next to me and I had a good laugh over that one. Still, this is a place where the locals don't mind who you are, the jukebox is all killer, no filler, and the drinks are cheap. So after walking out of Pat O' Briens I see this bar...I was slightly concerned with the amount of motorcycles outside. I could see the crowd from the curb so I said to my wife lets go in. This was a nice IRISH bar. Had the old style copper bar top, and benches behind the bar stools. My wife and I both had beers and the bartender immediately starts talking to us. Very friendly, start talking about Pittsburgh and you can tell many tourists do not venture over here! A few minutes later a few of the regulars start talking to us as well. Next thing you know they are buying Irish Car Bombs for us. The locals even gave us recommendations to try some other good bars in different neighborhoods which we asked about. The next night we stop back again, and the bartender immediately remembers me and asks if we want the same. Same great, friendly experience. This is a nice departure of the crazy Bourbon Street experience. it is low key, relaxed, and friendly. The only drawback is you are able to smoke in here. I will definitely come back here! Do you ever find yourself at Pat O's and you need a break? This bar is right across the street and will be considerable less crowded. I stumbled in this bar while strolling around the quarter. I was actually just looking for a place to pee and everywhere else was packed. While this place was also packed, it had no wait for the bathroom. The bathroom was typical of the quarter which means it was a bit disgusting. I easily overlooked that since there was no wait. After the bathroom visit, it was time to get a drink. The crowd seemed mostly local. Bartenders were friendly and prompt with service. After getting a drink I sat back on the bench against the wall and watched the crowd. The ore I visit the quarter as an adult, the more I realize it's not all shitty bars and tourists bearing their boobs. Arguably one of the best bars in New Orleans. I first discovered it years ago, after a legendary night of bar hoping on an afternoon when you just want to crawl up and die. We, of course, love the movie and were drawn to the name, and once we discovered that they played the movie 24/7, we were there for the duration. The rest of the afternoon was spent nursing our hangovers with some pretty tasty cocktails and watching Boondock Saints. Our bartender was a true rockstar and kept the crowd so involved that we had to return the following year. Sadly, she had moved on to another bar, but she left behind some awesome co workers that had us laughing throughout our stay. This is a great locals spot that seems to get the fact that a good bar is all about entertainment, showmanship, and charm. Cool little spot located in the French quarter. I was intrigued by this place because it was named after the awesome movie. We came to watch some football. Limited space and you can tell it's more a locals bar, which is what we loved about it. No frills, just drinks and sports. There were stools around the bar area and against the walls were church pews to sit on. This was such a fun place to stop while in the French Quarter. We felt like locals by the time we left - all the locals in there were quick to share stories and suggestions for our time in New Orleans. It's tiny but packed with so much history. Seeing the police badges from all over the world lining the ceiling gives it a unique touch as it's owned by two retired policemen. We had great service - even pulled out a phone charger for us to use while we enjoyed our frosty drinks. It sits right across the street from Preservation Hall and serves as a food spot to grab a drink and maybe a quick bathroom break before or after a performance. Don't miss it!! read more

So our first time in New Orleans we got dragged to Bourbon street one night. I know, you're shocked. That NEVER happens. My husband and I got tired of the crowd and drunken frat boys so we went looking for a bar on one of the side streets that might be a little less crowded if not a little quieter. Enter Boondocks. Firstly, any bar that is continuously showing the movie Boondock Saints I am automatically going to be a fan of. Secondly, given the massive crowd that was on Bourbon Street we were shocked that this place was almost completely dead. There seemed to be some regulars sitting at the bar and there was plenty of space for us. We had a couple drinks here before our friends coaxed us to come back out with them. And it was great. The staff was super friendly, the regulars were super friendly, and the best part: no frat boys. I definitely recommend this place if you need a break from the craziness of Bourbon street. read more

If I lived here, this would be my bar! It's far from being a tourist traps, the bartenders are so great, and the vibe in here is as if you are instantly a part of the family. They don't do the foo foo drinks like they do on Bourbon Street. This is a "real bar." It may look a little dive-y or some may say that it has character. The first night, I went in with a group of 15 and the bartender was great. She got everyone their drinks and then after she saw us taking pictures, she offered to take the picture. She hooped on a chair and click! The picture came out great. I went back on a Monday hoping to catch my Chargers game. First off, the bartender there was, again, great. Different bartender but they made me feel at home. It was nice because they, as well as the customers, knew two of my friends (they were not with me and live in NOLA) so they just included me in their conversation after that. These locals are not snooty and embraced me. The bartender and the customers made some suggestions and after a few drinks, I thanked them and began walking just to see two of the locals walk to us and lead us to the new location. Nothing like NOLA love. This place is just what you expect from real New Orleans. RECOMMENDATION: If you're going to Preservation Hall, walk here before to have a drink and order a large drink to go so you can take it into the Hall since they don't sell drinks. read more

The drinks are along the same prices you'd find at your home bar around 5 for like a captain and a mix. The bar seemed to have a lot of regulars.
