a bar with a brick wall
Mike K.

This somewhat divey French quarter bar has been a mainstay. I've walked into this place when you can barely fit one more person and everyone is elbow to elbow drinking happily. Other times, I was the sole soul at the bar. The movie "Boondock Saint" plays constantly on the tv. While the Bloody Mary's are not near as good as they were in the past, they still are tasty and each gets a nice splash of Guinness for some extra tasty flavor. Don't pass up this little bar with a rich history and a ton of nostalgia. Guinness in each one

Looking for a bar where you can hear yourself think, have a nice pint, chat with locals? This is it. And, if you have never had a Bloody Mary with Guinness, you are missing out on a great experience. Friendly bartender, great vibe.

Great local dive bar!

By far my favorite bar in NOLA. A local friend of mine recommended it as he knew I'm fond of dive bars :-) Just a half block off of the chaos of Bourbon St - I've never seen this place too crowded - even when there are people lined up across the street to get in to another bar. No nonsense bartenders, reasonable prices for a tourist area and the noise level is low enough you can have an actual conversation without shouting. Adding to my list of great dive bars around the country (and making that list if I don't have one).

The coolest hole in the wall dive bar in the quarter. Bartender had a "spin-the-wheel" game to get a free shot of something. Stopped in on a pub crawl with friends awhile back and never got around to reviewing. Also a man was asleep on one of the benches and they let the poor guy sleep. Nice place and nice people! Also very affordable compared to other places in the Quarter.

A local's joint in the heart of the French Quarter! Or that's what it feels like, and that's why I loved it! We stopped in after the show at Preservation Hall for drinks and to use a bathroom (which isn't fancy....it's a dive just off of Bourbon Street....there are no pristine fancy toilets nearby....deal with it). Drinks are decently priced, particularly for the location. The bartender was fantastic. Friendly, and when we came back the next night, she remembered our drinks! Impressive! I met and talked to some locals as well as other tourists. All fun and friendly. This is my kind of place. If you are in the French Quarter and want something a little less Bourbon Street-y...go here. S'fantastic!

proper guineas!

Bad service. The server working the bar should not be bartending. Very poor customer service.

it made us feel as if we were back home in Boston and happy, escaping the hectic craziness of Bourbon Street.

We found NOLA most unique bar last wk. Spent a couple hrs in here. Yes, we would return. I…read moreespecially enjoyed several of the frozen drinks that were brewing. The bartender said it had Amaretto, Southern Comfort ??? & ice. Very palletable.

While in New Orleans for a conference, my group and I stopped in looking for a place to have a few…read moredrinks. From the moment we walked in, the experience felt uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I was briefly recording outside when the door staff told me no videos or pictures were allowed inside the bar--totally fine, no issue with that. Once we walked in, the bartender immediately told us we needed to buy drinks if we wanted to be there. That was already the plan, so the comment felt unnecessary but we brushed it off. Things escalated when one person in our group was simply texting on her phone. The bartender lowered the music and yelled over the mic that no pictures or videos were allowed. We were not taking photos or videos at all. Meanwhile, the door staff continued staring at us as if we were doing something wrong. If they didn't want our business, they should have simply turned us away at the door instead of wasting our time. Overall, the staff came across as rude and overly aggressive for no reason. The atmosphere felt tense and uninviting, which is not what you expect when visiting a new place. Plenty of other bars nearby where you're treated kindly--this just wasn't one of them.
