The cheese sticks at Boone's Saloon are legendary. I like the original more than the blue cheese buffalo sticks. The batter is so light and fluffy but the sticks are still crunchy and delicious. The cheese literally melts in your mouth. If you don't get the cheese sticks during your visit you're making a mistake!! What I especially love about this place is that it is amazing for both brunch and lunch/dinner. The Haystack (a breakfast horseshoe with chorizo) is one of the best tasting breakfast combos I've ever tasted and I think it's the best breakfast horseshoe in town. I feel a little bad that I have not reviewed Boone's before, because I used to really like it for Saturday morning brunch. They used to have a southwest salad that was really good. They would sub out the chicken for black bean burger, so it was a hearty vegetarian meal. I know that things are a little tougher opening during Covid, but tonight was not good at all. When I tried to order a salad and I was asking questions about the ingredients of the salad, the server rolled her eyes and complained that none of her customers have ever ordered a salad before. I told her that this week I am eating raw vegan so I did not want any dressing, cheese, or croutons on my salad... Just fresh vegetables. This is what the salad looked like. It was a bowl of brown Romaine lettuce and chopped tomato. The picture is what remained after I ate the fresher pieces of lettuce and tomato pieces. (Oh! Unimpressed. I order a cheeseburger with bacon with order of fries. And received my order in less than three minutes which tell me it was precook and waiting before I even ordered. The veggies on the burger weren't fresh and the cold tasteless fries were fried hard. The Soda was delicious however. People rave about this place. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing but not too many people can mess up a cheeseburger. The waitress was superb and professional but I probably won't go there again. read more

I found their food to be only so-so. I ordered a hamburger horseshoe. Given the choice of sauces, I chose white. Big mistake! The white sauce was spicy and burned when I swallowed. I wish I'd known it was spicy before ordering it. I also ordered the stuffed pickles. These were decent but if I'd know that $7.25 was going to give me only 6 pickles, I probably would have passed. I also ordered the house tortellini. It was definitely homemade. I'm guessing it was brought to me in broth, although it was completely flavorless so it might have been plain water. My granddaughter ordered a bourbon burger. Both burgers were really good beef and quite large. She had ordered fries and cheese and was brought homemade chips with cheese. The chips were really good though. Would I go back? Maybe to the bar and just eat the chips. Kind of disappointed. read more

Sunday a group of us eager to eat out went to Boones for breakfast. My wife and her Mom both ordered the veggie omelet and got food poisoning. My wife is not working tomorrow due to food poisoning. The weekend before the eclipse, it seems, flooded Springfield with visitors, which is one reason to explain why the few places open for breakfast were overwhelmed and posting signs about long waits. However we made is just in time to get a table in not too long of a period, and enjoyed a saturating heavy breakfast/brunch that kept us full for most of the rest of the hot day. Close to the capitol building which we were going to afterwards. It was pretty crowded and a little slow and chaotic but they seemed to keep the river flowing. I've eaten at this place twice now (both against my choice) and typically I would just brush off a first bad experience as a fluke. I ate at this place months ago and got a Buffalo chicken horseshoe. My chicken was undercooked and after one bite I felt sick to my stomach. I brushed it off and today I ended up at Boones again. I had a training for work down the street and it was the only practical place for us to go for lunch. Our food took almost an hour to get to us and we were late to our training. My grilled chicken wrap was unbelievably dry and poorly made. At this point, if by some stretch of the imagination a food choice comes down to Boones again, I will simply go hungry. Here's the deal. Boone's has arguably the most accessible, low-key beer garden in downtown Springfield. I've spent many an evening there over the years. But they also have three separate explicit references to the confederacy on their menu. I don't need a confederate chicken salad or a rebel chicken caesar, for example. It's not cute. Since reopened and new management, improvement is needed. Ate breakfast there and Blueberry pancakes raw in the middle. Pointed it out to manager with no offer of no charge or another order. Recently ate there and after arriving home, noticed overcharge for 3 beers. Much more recently, ate and ordered beers. On the bill, overcharged for 3 beers snd pointed out to server that my friend would be drunk if he had 9 beers. He said he was a carry over from previous server who left And that was the bill. This is a racist establishment! Staying at a hotel in downtown Springfield and decided to take a evening walk to grab some dinner with family. We were completely ignored upon entering and once we finally got someone's attention she approached with nasty attitude and said it would be an hour before we would get our food. The place was at 20% capacity. I work in hospitality so I get potential staffing shortage and delays - it was the delivery, lack of professionalism and the prejudice I felt once we walked through the door. It seems funny to me how some people visit a place several times, then only choose to write a review once they've had their first bad experience. Not me! I've been coming to Boone's about once a week since it reopened and couldn't be happier. Sure, it can be a little slow now and then, but where is service always perfect? Nowhere that I've seen. The bartenders and waitstaff have always been friendly and quick to serve. And if they don't come to me right away, I flag them down and they do their job perfectly. The drinks are plentiful to choose from and nicely priced and the food is fantastic. It was a little iffy the first couple of weeks while they worked out the wrinkles, but it is always great now. Their burgers are perfect and you have got to try the fried pickles or the sweet potato fries. Always amazing! Keep up the great work, Boone's! read more

Went here for brunch yesterday. Very impressed. There were 7 of us, so we had an array of food. Bloody Mary's were pretty good. Omelette and biscuits and gravy were ok too. Loved the blueberry bacon pancakes with yummy syrups! Breakfast platter with eggs , tots, toast, and sausage was very good. Tots were also a step above just standard tots. They also serve not just the standard sausage links - nice big plump sausage! Also, the toast was quality bread. Thicker cut nice whole grain bread. My family and I went there today for the first time and absolutely loved it! We had the stuffed pickles, bacon blue chips, buffalo chicken salad and Philly cheese steak horseshoe. We split everything and left completely full with plenty for later. Not only was the food amazing but so was the service. Our server was Abby, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and provided a little history lesson behind the horseshoe. She also provided some great local beer recommendations. This place was a welcomed find on our family's recent trip to Springfield. We had been wandering historical sites all morning and we were hungry and a bit grouchy- it was a hot day. We weren't sure where to go for lunch, and went in on the advice of a tour guide at the state capitol. Our server was very kind and personable, and we all enjoyed our drinks and food. On a friend's reco, we hoped for a decent "bar food" meal for an early casual dinner. It was our first night in Springfield after a long day of driving and checking out the Lincoln museum. Beer choices were plentiful and reasonably priced, but it was downhilll from there. Service was rushed and not very personal for a "saloon," even though the place was far less than half full. Normally we are very tolerant of bar food, willing to give up something for atmosphere and fellowship. But the food here was not worth a visit. We ordered one of the soups du jour -- good ol' garden vegetable -- but for some odd reason it had "run out" by 5:30 PM. The tortilla soup (the other du jour) was tasty. But the house tortellini soup was not worth a second look or taste -- three pieces of tortellini in chicken broth, no vegetables, little flavor, and certainly no bargain at $3.95 for a small cup! Moving on to the main courses, the bourbon chicken sandwich was less than the sum of its parts -- which was easy to determine since it readily fell apart. The wife's black bean burger was over-microwaved to the point of being impossible to cut or chew on the perimeter. Boones has some of the best breakfast in town. I don't know what they do to their tater tots to make them awesome BUT I have tried to replicate it and failed. I don't think there is a better breakfast item in town than their Haystack. It's jalapeno cornbread with chorizo, potatoes, and gravy on top. You will need a box. I also love the beer garden area. What a quaint little joint. They have an extensive menu and mostly for just under 10$. I have posted a picture of the menu to this site. They have 12 beers on tap with a great selection of craft draught beers. They also have also have blue moon colors and bud light on tap to name a few. I had the fried stuffed pickles. A first for me. It was surprisingly good. The side sauce was a zesty semi spicy tasting treat. I got the turkey BLT and it did not disappoint. Shaved turkey and home made chips hit the spot. I wish I could find places like this more often seeing as that I am in a sudden state every night. I will definitely come back. I did Come for lunch at noon, atmosphere was great. I bet at night this is the place to be. Will see next time. read more
