So, in an impromptu plan, within 20 minutes we found ourselves at my wife's favorite Thai restaurant. we had not been here in last 1 year and i could see some change in menu My wife didn't even think twice before ordering her favorite -- Drunken Thai Noodles. This time, instead of my usual Basil Fried Rice or Pineapple Fried Rice, I decided to try something new -- Kao Soy Gai (Special). It's sautéed chicken with noodles in a yellow curry with veggies. Boonton Thai is always our go-to when we want good Thai food but aren't looking for a fancy sit down restaurant. Their drunken noodle and basil fried rice are the two I always get, they're very consistent with their plates so you'll always get the same rich flavor. Usually we'll pay around $14-$15 dollars for each entree which is a good price for the area and the quality of the food. Their crab rangoons are also good but they did the raise the price of those so we haven't gotten them in a while. They're always very kind to us and the service is very quick when placing our order - they take around 12-15 minutes to have it ready. I really recommend this place if you're looking for a good takeout place! read more

This place was amazing! I came a couple weeks ago with my husband, our friend and his son. It's a hole in the wall for sure. It's a very small restaurant so I recommend you plan to get there early if you want to be seated right away. I ordered the drunken noodles and my husband ordered their mango curry. First off I love, love coconut milk currys and this place is my new favorite. I tried my husband's curry and I could not stop eating it. He ordered it with a spice level of hot because we love spicy and it was the perfect level of spicy. My drunken noodles were pretty good too but once I had the curry I kind of forgot about it. My husband enjoyed my drunken noodles as well so he wasn't upset at all. I always enjoy a Thai tea along with my Thai food so I had to have it and it was pretty delicious as well. I have been craving this spot for a while again and it has barely been two weeks. So I'll definitely be going back soon. They are very affordable which is a huge plus because their food is just delicious. They are BYOB so if you want to have some alcohol your more than welcome to bring it. Also they do carry outs so if your not wanting to wait or want to do something more private then order ahead. Overall I recommend anyone to try it and go back for more. Came by for dinner. Small place with not much seating. First thing I noticed is how unbearably hot it is in this shop. The have several ceiling fans and small oscillating fans spread out but it is little help. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. A decent portion and was tasty but nothing outrageously good about it. I would give the Pad Thai three stars but it was so hot I could finish my meal and got the rest to go. I can't imagine if you ordered something spicy! So I gave one star for the room because it is so uncomfortable I had to leave. I would go back in the Winter and try another dish. read more

Was craving thai, but didn't want to drive too far. Thankfully, Boonton Thai was a 5 min drive up the road. Ordered the Boonton Thai Mussels, Shrimp Tom Kha, and a Chicken & Shrimp Massaman Curry. The mussels were complimented by a broth flavored with thai basil. The Tom Kha had a rich coconut broth, which enhanced the shrimp's natural taste. The Massaman was spicy and delicious. We ordered the chicken satay .. dry and the meat was so thin. Over cooked and basically a piece of rubber. The pineapple curry had a weird consistency.. slimy? I couldn't pin point what it was. The fried rice tasted sour. The Tom yum noodle soup had no noodles. The Thai dumplings were just shumai's. Spicy drunken noodles.. bad version of beef chow fun. Then after We ate .. both of us got massive stomach problems. We are Asian. We eat spicy foods all the time but this food is not fresh! Oh my goodness.... i can finally say i finally found a great thai place that's close to me.... I passed by the area couple weeks ago and saw the sign "now open"... i was determine to try!! and man, did i find the little gem here... It's a very small place and you need to find street parking... as you walk in, you will see the open kitchen, with couple small tables (so not too good for big crowd i think)... so my husband and i sat down and were determine to try something that we loved from another thai restaurant to "test them out"... We ordered duck pineapple curry, clay pot shrimp and lard na... the food was AWESOME!! you see them making your dishes in the kitchen, so so fresh!!! presentation is very nice, and taste, oh man... it was delicious... Service is awesome!! the lady keep stopping by and check on us and see if we need anything and how's the food was!!! take out is busy too because you hear the phone keep ringing!! that means they are good... Total hole in the wall place located in downtown Boonton. Very small place but they make it work - can probably seat about 20 people in the whole restaurant. The dining room and the kitchen are the same room - you can sometimes sneak a peak at the chefs cooking your noodles fresh! This is my favorite place for pad thai - it is absolutely delicious - not too saucy, flavorful with a hint of smokiness. Very reasonably priced, great portions, and quick service. I would think it's more of a takeout place, but the dining room is always full - it's BYOB and feels like an authentic Thailand dining experience. I definitely recommend! read more

Our school district hosted a fundraiser "dinner to go" night here, and I was curious about this place for a while. We are Thai food newbies, but I heard good things. The restaurant itself is super tiny but smells amazing when you walk in. I saw on the special menu they had a fried rice with Taylor ham (not my thing but creative!), as well as several desserts and bubble tea! The owner helped me with picking up my order and service was fast. Thankfully everything was labeled because we ordered the drunken noodles (awesome sauce, literally.), pad see ew and pad Thai (amazing). Prices are very reasonable and the menu is huge. I only wish the chicken was not cut into such tiny tiny pieces. There was a ton of noodles for the pad Thai but I want more protein! One of my favorite dishes, and one I simply can't get where I currently live (Louisville, KY), is jungle curry (aka wild curry), so I'm on the hunt for it whenever I travel. They have it here, and it's one of best I've had anywhere. For those of you who aren't in the know (but are about to be), jungle curry is basically Thai red curry made with broth or water instead of coconut milk. It originates in northern Thailand, where coconuts aren't as much a thing as they are in the south, and it tends to be extra spicy, as it isn't mellowed out by the sweetness of the milk. It also tends to have more vegetables than a coconut-based curry, and the consistency is on the soupy side. Anyway, as I was saying, Boonton does jungle curry well. And they know it. In fact, upon ordering it, the response I got from my server was a look of surprise and an exclamation of "oooh... good choice - very spicy!" (I suspect it isn't ordered often). And spicy it was. It took a good 45 minutes to eat, with eyes watering, and that's exactly how it should be. (Fwiw, my spice tolerance is only moderate, so I don't do this sort of thing often.). read more

We came here in hopes that the food would be good and it was better than good. It was crack cocaine Thai food. This place is absolutely delicious and a must try if you're in the mood for Thai food. I ordered pad-see-ew (sp?) with shrimp to determine if it was good Thai food. That is always my baseline and I was blown away by the sauce and the flavor. My fiancé ordered the mixed seafood wok in garlic sauce, and we were not let down. We also ordered the Thai pumpkin custard and sticky rice with fresh mango for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. The place is small though, and as it gains popularity I am imagine waits will become long on the weekend. Certainly not a bad thing. I order thru their online portal to go, didn't even realize I was getting hit with random fees until the order was thru: credit card fee, service fee, convenience fee--which brought my order from $42 to $49. The store claimed they couldn't do anything about that. I ordered the Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Red Curry, Spicy Drunken Noodles. For all of these I requested medium spice which was a notch higher than the mild. There was no noticeable spicy-ness whatsoever. You would think that the SPICY basil fried rice and the SPICY drunken noodles would be a little spicy by default but it's really misleading to title something spicy and it not have atleast a kick,--even after requesting heat level. Besides that the flavor was okay, I've had more flavorful curries else where. I think the spicy fried rice was best taste wise, despite lacking spice. Then the curry came with the smallest amount of rice, ratio was completely off. Had to pay $2 for another portion of rice. Could be way better in terms of flavor and customer service. read more

Time to start testing out all the restaurants in my new hometown, and so I see there are two Thai places. What's the difference? So far, I know this much: Boonton Thai strives for authenticity. They had mee krob as a special (made famous by South Park - and now you should go watch that episode), and so I paired that with their regular larb to make a meal out of two appetizers. My girlfriend ordered the jungle curry. The server/hostess/owner? was very pleased with us for ordering more traditional dishes. The mee krob was amazing. It looked like a couple of shrimp sitting on top of a pile of semi-cooked orange ramen, but the rice noodles turned out to be the star. So much flavor was packed into that dish, and the noodles were just slightly crunchy and otherwise the perfect consistency. The larb was more full of meat than I've ever seen, cold and vinegary and definitely not a dish typically experienced by an American palette. In hindsight, there was too much salt between the two - these are meant as appetizers, not as main courses, so I wasn't really supposed to eat that much of each. Also, I asked for "Thai Spicy" and it still wasn't terribly spicy. My girlfriend's "medium" curry actually turned out to be spicy in its own right - I wonder if there was a slight mixup? I will have to come back to sample a few more dishes. I will at least peek at the other Thai place up the hill, but I feel myself getting drawn back down to this one. Hate to leave a bad review on a local business. I ordered the pad Thai and crab Rangoon. Crab was good! When I opened the pad Thai though, it smelled like what I can only describe as a barnyard. I've had pad Thai before and it has never smelled like that. I googled it to see if maybe this style of cuisine just has that smell. Nothing came up. It actually smelled rotten. I tried a bit and it tasted decent, but decided to not eat it as the smell scared me. Unfortunately won't be going back. read more

I love Thai food...I only started eating it about 8 years ago, and immediately began kicking myself for not trying it sooner. If you're like me and love Thai food...you're going to enjoy a visit to Boonton Thai Cuisine. Before I get to the food I have to say that I have absolutely no idea why tiny Boonton needs TWO Thai restaurants within a couple blocks of each other, but hey, if competition keeps prices reasonable and keeps the cooks' creativity moving forward then I'm all for it. So, last Friday my wife came home from work looking like she had a long week and I wanted to get her out of the house - I mentioned this "New Thai Place" in Boonton and she bit (we live in the next town over so it's a short drive). We park around the corner (parking in Boonton is always a bit of a PITA) and walk over to the restaurant...and I was shocked at how tiny the place was...I mean 7 (maybe) 4-top tables. I was also shocked by how great the aroma was wafting through the door as we got close...so I knew right away that it was going to be a great meal. The only table available when we got there was right next to the door - so we took it, but after about 5 minutes another table opened up so we asked to move (it was pretty cold next to the door). The place is BYOB...and we did...so they brought us a couple glasses and we enjoyed some wine while reading the menu. You aren't going to be overwhelmed with a whole lot of fancy new Thai dishes as the menu was about the same as most of the other places I've been to in Northern Jersey, but you'll still be happy with the results. We ordered Chicken Satay, Curry Puffs, and Tom Kha soup with chicken (medium spice) for appetizers and were NOT disappointed. The peanut sauce and the 'cucumber salad' dipping sauces were amazing...in fact, I could eat a bowl of the cucumber salad as an appetizer by itself it was so tasty. The Curry Puffs were a little small and I was intrigued by them being filled with potato, but they were really delicious. My Tom Kha soup was about the same as other local places...a little creamier maybe...and I should have gotten it just a touch spicier (I think they may be of the mindset that us Americans might not be able to handle a lot of Thai spice...and that's ok, better to under spice than over spice - I know for next time). For our entrees my wife ordered the Red Curry with chicken (it's her 'go-to' dish) and I tried the Spicy Drunken Noodles with mixed seafood (also medium...but was a little spicier than the soup). The waitress brought me over a little bit of the hot sauce paste with my dish so I could add a little spice on my own...which was a nice touch. The Red Curry was as good as we've had it anywhere else in the area...so there were ZERO leftovers there...love it-practically licked the bowl. My Spicy Drunken Noodles...would be one of the reasons I would go back here today if I could. Absolutely delicious...great flavors and just enough heat to open up the sinuses a bit. The seafood was cooked well and wasn't chewy and they served a big enough portion that I was able to get a second meal out of it. SO...why only 4 stars if the food was this great?!? Ok, the tables are kind of crammed in here and that table by the door just doesn't work for patrons when it's cold outside - MAYBE if they built out a double door it would keep the cold out. Our waitress was great, but they were pretty packed and the service was slow (not the waitress's fault, just too much to cook and not enough space behind the counter FOR the cooks). Took about 30 minutes from the time we sat to get our appetizer and almost another 30 for our entrée...that said, we were NOT in a hurry so it didn't bother me...but it might bother others and it will slow down the pace of moving people through the dinner service if they start to get really popular. The most delicious Thai food I have come across in all of NJ. The owner of this new restaurant is an absolute sweetheart. You taste the love she puts into her food. My husband and I tried the appetizer sampler. Everything on that platter was delicious and everything came out hot considering how many different appetizers the had to prepare. Spring rolls, chicken sate, pork dumpling, crab rangoon, curry puff and fried chicken wings, all sooooo good and not greasy at all. I had the drunken noodles with tofu. Humongous portion with humongous taste. You taste the fire of the wok on the noodles. We love this place and it is definitely our favorite Thai restaurant. read more

It's obvious the Owners/Chefs Nancy & Rak take a lot of pride in their food and do not want anyone to leave disappointed. A few of my favorites are the Summer Roll, Thai Salad and Pad Thai. We were traveling through on a way to a wedding and not familiar with the area at all, when we found this little gem of a place. Owners from Bangkok so style definitely is reminiscent of the city. We landed on the Som Tum, steamed dumplings, and did a mix of shrimp and vegetable Pad Thai. Wow! Everything was so well executed and made with love. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I can't have dairy and they even were able to do a delicious not too sweet Thai iced tea with coconut cream instead of milk. The second half of this review is just for Nancy, because she absolutely saved my life after I had left my wallet behind and didn't have time to go back before the wedding. The next day we happened to be going the exact direction where she lived and met us to return the wallet. The incredible act of kindness is a perfect example of her hospitality. Decided to come here after reading all of the positive reviews. Really tiny, hole in the wall kind of place with flavorful food and amazing service. We ordered the satay chicken for an appetizer. I loved it! The peanut sauce it came with was so good that I ended up asking for more... which the server happily provided. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken for my meal. When asked how spicy I wanted it, I decided to go with "medium" since I'm generally able to tolerate somewhat spicy food. The server warned me that medium is pretty spicy so I ended up going with mild. And let me tell you, she was definitely correct. I even found the mild to be very spicy. I suggest keeping this in mind when placing your order. My boyfriend ordered a duck dish which he seemed to enjoy. Portion sizes were fairly large. I had enough leftover to have for another meal the next day. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant and will likely be back. Oh, and it is also BYO which is definitely another plus! read more

Specifically, with family members from out-of-town who love Thai food, but are not satisfied with their local choices. Well, they were thrilled with the cuisine and authentic atmosphere. I do it understand all the great reviews? Maybe I am missing something. Anyway, we ordered take out. 2 apps and 2 main dishes (pad thai and a beef dish). Total was $40. The apps (spring rolls, chicken) were extremely small portions and definitely not worth the $7-8 price tag (spring rolls seemed like frozen spring rolls from rest. Depot). Not fresh at all. Chicken was dry. The main dishes were sadly nothing to write home about. The pad thai was flavorless and oily. Very disappointing, especially for the price.
